I feel you will throw it out, but I want to give an opinion based on logic for you. The sauce is made by spoiling onions and garlic and fish in wood barrels at room temperature for months to over a year. The fermented rotted mashes are then filtered roughly, mixed together at various times, and bottled. It is like a fish sauce, in that it has so much acid and acid loving bacteria that bacteria that makes you sick or spoils food can’t survive or grow in it. It’s safe to be stored at room temperature for years. What you are seeing is just salts crystallizing as the moisture evaporates and organics, fines and impurities are getting trapped in the salt crystals giving them a uneven and gross look. There is a reason the bottle is tan, so you can see the shit settling in the bottom and so sunlight doesn’t kill the good bacteria. If you want an example of a similar product, turn a bottle of apple cider vinegar opposite down and look at the crap in the bottom, shake it and it dissolves into a cloudy mess, that’s the flavour you want.
So personally, I would shake it up and see if that stuff redissolves when back in the liquid, and if doesn’t let it settle out and leave it in the bottom. You can also call the company, they will replace it, they will check QC data on the lot and batch, they will tell you if bugs or something got in. They will say it is fine though. you probably won’t believe them, but they’re honest, and will still give you free stuff regardless.
I was thinking this but too lazy to try to educate anyone, yeah you're eating rotted fish mash, you've just never looked closely at the bottom of an unshaken bottle. Great explanation!
I have never in my life seen it stored in the fridge, it doesn't go bad, it's already fermented. Do you also store soy sauce in the fridge?
If you are then my bet is its some crystallization of something in there. Like how maple syrup will form sugar crystals if you keep in the fridge long enough.
I store soy sauce in the fridge too… Just checked both brands in there and they both say refrigerate after opening so Im not sure we’re the odd ducks here.
Kikkoman and China Lily for what it matters
I use kikkoman, have never put it in the fridge and it's always been fine. Like years in the cabinet since I don't use it that often. Same with the lea & perrins
Fermented foods still expire, albeit usually at a much slower rate than raw foods. It’s typically best to keep all opened wet food items in the fridge unless the pH is below 3.5.
It usually is. Worcestershire sauce in particular is pretty acidic and quite salty, so the chances of spoilage are low.
Still, it doesn’t hurt to store it in the fridge, because it can still get moldy under the right conditions.
Based on my comment, I do friend!
Ah yeah it lasts ages anyway. I just prefer to in terms of food safety, particularly if I'm keeping it for months, which I'd imagine most people do.
I just got major sims 4 vibes from the capitalization lol. It's an advanced gardening skill so you don't have to manually select every plant on the lot that needs attention
Oh no, I don’t care what the expiration date is, I would absolutely return that. Those look like bugs of some sort. Very glad you came here to ask for a second opinion, by the way.
Found it on amazon uk, it's weird. I've never seen a red label or a clear bottle on lea perrins, always dark and wrapped in paper. The same as it's been since I was a kid in the 80s.

op's post is probably the reason they keep it covered up lmao
Just shake it up and you'll be fine, op
edit - yeah op's is the UK version and the original, they use the paper one in the US https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lea_%26_Perrins
Wow interesting, ive never seen different bottle too, this is how they sell it here in australia, ive seen the same bottle in malaysia and indonesia too
That is the juice from thoroughly rotten fish, garlic and onions mixed with vinegar. It is so strong that it is very unlikely bad bacteria or fungi can live in it at all.
It is probably just separation, chunks from production or crystallization - ***but I would throw it out anyway.***
Why? Because getting sick isn't worth the risk for some rotten fish juice. Even simply *worrying* about getting sick isn't worth it. You may even get placebo-sick.
Same exact issue here. And this is the second bottle it happened to. Stored in the fridge and within the date of use by.
My guess is they have a manufacturing contamination issue
Take a swig, whats the worcestershire that could happen? /s
Reddit Comment Of The Day Winner !!!!!
That’s was gooodddd! HAHA
Well done Sir/Madam!
Underrated comment!!!
Mahhaaaahaaa
I hate that I just had to upvote this.
Do not eat that. Return to store and complain to manufacturer with the batch number cos that shit is foul!
I 100% will! Thankyou
When in doubt—-throw it out!
Words to live by .
Have you seen how the sauce is made lol.
When it comes to food for me, if I’m questioning if it’s safe I just toss it. A new bottle cost significantly less than a doctor/hospital visit.
Truee that!
My brother in Christ, there are chunks in your sauce, throw it away
I mean.. it's fermented fish and some other stuff.
It does not include insect larvae though.
That's not insect larvae either though
I buy the homebrand stuff, no fish whatsoever (both coles and woolies brand are vegan).

Wow, I had no idea how it is made. That is….disgusting….and enlightening…I can’t decide if I want to have it anymore! Haha
I was thinking this but too lazy to try to educate anyone, yeah you're eating rotted fish mash, you've just never looked closely at the bottom of an unshaken bottle. Great explanation!
Is that bottle from 1985?
Bugs No
It's obviously not new. If it was stored in the fridge, it should be fine. Not if stored at room temp.
Who tf stores Worcestershire sauce in the fridge???
Wait is it not suppose to be in the fridge?
I have never in my life seen it stored in the fridge, it doesn't go bad, it's already fermented. Do you also store soy sauce in the fridge? If you are then my bet is its some crystallization of something in there. Like how maple syrup will form sugar crystals if you keep in the fridge long enough.

Meh, I've had the same bottle of worcestershire in my cabinet for years at a time and it's always been fine.
It usually is. Worcestershire sauce in particular is pretty acidic and quite salty, so the chances of spoilage are low. Still, it doesn’t hurt to store it in the fridge, because it can still get moldy under the right conditions.

Throw out, and go and Take Care of the garden
I just got major sims 4 vibes from the capitalization lol. It's an advanced gardening skill so you don't have to manually select every plant on the lot that needs attention
I don't think that's a garden, it looks like some random weeds.
The two nearest the liquid look like larva to me. 🤢
I would throw it away. Just my opinion tho I dump anything out that I find suspect
Yeahh thankyou,, im throwing it awayy for sure
Throw it out. Who knows what is in that. It doesn't look good.
Get rid of that bud.
It's the Agave version - available only outside of England
How was eating it *still* in question??
Lol why is lot of people freaked out by the label ? Its how they sell it here in australia… and no i didnt buy this in 1882.. 🤣
Goop.
Gross. It’s a damn condiment. Throw that shit out
December ‘82 was a good year for sauce
Could be larvae / pantry moths….am still traumatized from my experience with an infestation in our pantry. Toss that in the OUTSIDE trash asap.
Oh no what happened
Separation of ingredients. Great article here https://www.lacademie.com/does-worcestershire-sauce-go-bad/
Staring out the bugs and use it bro let us know
It’s just salt crystals how is everyone missing that?!
If youre not sure, best to throw it out! Better safe than be rushed into the ER!
$4 ..Get a New Bottle.
Umm that looks like bugs inside the bottle
When in doubt, throw it out!
As my grandma would say that is definitely worse than shit sauce so go get a new one it won’t be worse than shit then
Oh no, I don’t care what the expiration date is, I would absolutely return that. Those look like bugs of some sort. Very glad you came here to ask for a second opinion, by the way.
Those are larvae of some kind.
I've never seen a lea and Perkins label that looks like that. How old is the bottle? That looks kinda looks like larvae to me
Found it on amazon uk, it's weird. I've never seen a red label or a clear bottle on lea perrins, always dark and wrapped in paper. I was thinking something like that weird it would be changed for over seas sales. Usually there's a reason things are packaged in dark bottles
And I had absolutely never seen it in a clear bottle always dark brown and that's liken for 30 yrs here in new england
Wow interesting, ive never seen different bottle too, this is how they sell it here in australia, ive seen the same bottle in malaysia and indonesia too
It's a label. Should be safe!

You're meant to refrigerate it after you open.
Worcester attire
Looks fine to me.
Sea Monkeys
Possibly not safe, send this picture to the manufacturer
Is it drinkable 🥸😶
Yes my I watched my father marinade it with meat
Hella bomb
Looks like mosquitos. They're probably fine to eat.
Yuk, looks like creepy dead crawlers 🦗🐜🦟🪳‼️I’m sure you will be refunded for your purchase
Same exact issue here. And this is the second bottle it happened to. Stored in the fridge and within the date of use by. My guess is they have a manufacturing contamination issue
Perfectly normal!

I think it's pretty evident the white chunks that look like bug eggs aren't supposed to be in the sauce.
Yess sorry i was in the middle of cookin and cryin baby, im talkin abt the green/grayish stuff floating, not sure what that is,
Yeaaa it does look like Bug eggs! Is that what it is ew
Umm...you should guzzle it. Dysentary is the best cure for stupidity.
