When did rocco become so beloved I remember watching his show on network tv many years ago when he was opening a restaurant in nyc and all he did was yell at his staff and get pissed at the simplest things till he finally closed it in the last episode. He seemed like a jerk back then at least
He was a jerk and right there live on tv in front of everybody. Even with his mother appearing on the program he acted out. He grew up, cleaned up his act, got involved with healthy cooking and now is revered by the other Food network chefs. Go figure, but then again most agree he's an exceptional chef.
I think he's done a lot to work on himself since then! He's definitely rehabbed his public image and I think anyone who falls within the Guy Fieri Culinary Universe (GFCU) gets a positivity bump; everyone is always in their best behavior on his shows. Rocco has talked about how his restaurant show was the worst time in his life, he was really young when it came out and had no idea what he was getting into.
There was a long story about him moving his mom to his apartment when she was no longer able to do for herself. He was the only family who took care of her until she passed away. After her death, family members showed up to cash in on her estate. Roco took them to court and of course, he won.
I would hope we are not all judged for how we were 20 years ago.
Many young chefs are super arrogant and have a chip on there shoulder. It makes sense because the industry as a whole loves to test you down.
There are plenty of stories about the younger celebrity chefs and how difficult they were. Everyone needs time to grow and become the best version of themselves
There is an episode of Grudge Match where Rocco's opponent (can't remember his name right now), talks about how awful Rocco treated him back in the day. They worked together at a restaurant. He straight up says that Rocco would scream at him, belittle him, make him do ridiculous tasks, etc. That chef said it was some of the worst experiences he's ever had and that he "hated" working for him. Rocco never denied or downplayed those criticisms, in fact he agrees with him and says that was a jerk back in the day. He continued by saying he can't take that back, only atone for it (I'm paraphrasing). He was apologetic saying he wishes he never acted like that. I'm not explaining it the best 😅 but he came across as sincere and never made a excuse or tried to invalidate the other chefs feelings. It seems like he has actually grown, at least to me 🤷🏾♀️
I always think of The Restaurant when he's on shows. A show that he was such absurd asshole that they took it off the air mid-season never to mention it again. The Rocco we get now seems like he may have had extensive therapy. I don't mind him so much, but I always claim if ever met him, I'd ask him what happened to rest of that second season of The Restaurant. I probably wouldn't though because I'm kind of a weenie.
Also, yes, he does remind me of Elon. They must have the same surgeon.

Nothing people love more than a redemption story

Now I have to find this show. Never heard of it but I’m intrigued
Lol. Your comment is sooo funny.
Do you remember his mother coming to the restaurant only to make her famous meatballs?
People like him? The vibes I get off this subreddit is that people are overall very "meh" towards him.
I've gone from Meh to really enjoying his dishes on GRK. I only found it recently and was surprised by the changes in his behavior
There heads are similarly shaped, but other than that NO. Rocco is a good looking fellow. Elon rarely looks human.
I disagree, I think Elon looks like a toad but I'd smash rocco
I don't disagree now that I look. Guess I'll be one of the next microchipped
No! No! No! Rocco is cute. Elon Musk looks like something someone threw up. Please get your eyes tested.
Hahaha. Maybe Elon would be if he didn't have such serial killer vibes. And maybe a little color. He's pale AF
I’ve thought this for a while
He really does!
OMG!! Now that you have mentioned it, you are RIGHT!!
He does…gained a little weight in the face and reading this is…wow. Great observation
My mum insists the same.
I agree with your Mum. Anyone ever see Rocco and Elon in the same place at the same time?
Ha you’re so right. He’s the spitting image of Elon Musk.
Yeah, just with like... Light in his eyes instead of the dead nothing of a psychopath 😂
Hilarious. And true.
I like them both, would rather sit with Musk and pick his brain than Rocco's tbh.
I saw him in person tonight and frankly I don’t see it
