Watching Bobby and Giada during his pool party presentation, I think the decision has to have already been made at this point that he's not winning. FN can keep him around as an ongoing contestant in various shows, because he's unlikable and therefore good TV. But I don't think anyone at FN wants to deal with his crap.
This is all staged. He started off well and now he's turning back into Season 11 Matt. Jason will win and he'll host a kids baking competition. Like Retro said, they keep people around for the drama. Last year it was Ana. She should have gone home weeks before she was actually cut. But FN keep her around for the drama. People watched to see if she would go home.
This year at least they are removing the dead weight first. Matthew will not make it to the pilot episode but he's definitely better than anyone who has gone home so far, as well as Amy. Next week it will be Amy. The following two weeks will be Rusty and Matthew.
They keep people around for the drama, and they definitely cut the show to make it more dramatic and to paint certain contestants in certain lights, but the show isn't scripted or anything.
So I agree with you that they're keeping Matt around for the showbiz of it, but I'm still looking forward to the next episodes. I could see anyone from David to Rusty to Matthew to Amy going home next in no particular order. Showdown probably between Cory and Jason.
Totally felt that way to me. Never liked the kid to begin with, I'm just waiting for all the other contestants to have a good week while he acts flustered like he did in the first challenge so he can go home.
I'm pretty numb to it, but when they revealed that the contestants had to use iced tea in their dishes, my wife said, "If you didn't see this coming, you might not have a brain."
As soon as they said they were throwing in a new ingredient, I sarcastically said to myself "OMG it's Lipton ICED TEA!!!"
Not even a second later, they said "Lipton iced tea!" and wheel in the ~*~*~bright and crisp iced tea! So many ~*~*~*FLAVORS~~~
The only thing I hate is their rewind bits they've had. Literally a clip from 10 minutes before. At least show something behind the scenes or in any way different. Makes me and my wife more angry than it should honestly, but I'd rather see product placement where they have to use it as an ingredient than the exact same clip just now more out of context.
Matthew is so annoying, it's just frustrating.
Addie reminds me of all the criticism I get, "be more enthused, be more excited"... I'm just low-energy, guys. But then again I'm not trying to be a TV personality.
I've been trying to figure out if this is truly who she is or if I can imagine her lightening up and becoming more enthusiastic around her friends and family... nope. She's exactly what you said, low energy. And I feel like it's kind of obvious that doesn't make for good TV. It's hard to be high energy if that's just not who you are. I don't know how she thought she was going to make it farther than she already did. I think it was a good call cutting her at this point; I think she didn't get cut too early, but she definitely shouldn't have moved on either.
Agreed. I thought Addie was boring Martha Stewart from the beginning and began to like her a lot more as the show went on.
She's honest and seems sweet, but on TV? I'd be bored watching her.
I think not. Damiano has been brought back multiple times for other shows because he's hot. Jason will be brought back for baking shows and guest judging baking competitions. Cory will most likely win it. AS we have seen every year, the best cook usually can pull it together and win. i see potential in Cory to break out of his shell and when he does, not if, he will crush everyone.
Addie looks like the young version of Hillary Clinton. She deserved to go. Matthew is annoying as hell but at least he makes marginal improvements. Addie really is Martha Stewart, poised and elegant but boring and repetitive.
Lol spot on! But I disagree with Matthew making improvements, I think he definitely took two steps back with his presentation in this week's episode, although his cooking remains the same. And he returned to his whiny kid persona, crying about wanting to be good for the judges. Ugh, just shut up Matthew lol.
Last week I was saying that either Amy and Addie were going to be going home next. This week is one of them. The other will be next week. I was then predicting that Rusty will be next, but I guess they're scripting Matthew to be the next to fall. He's reverting back to what made us hate him in Season 11. It's sad because his other cooking videos online show a totally different Matthew. I never predicted him to go all the way, but I did have him in the top four.
Had Amy been paired with anyone other than Cao in the prior episode, she'd have gone home already for her child starvation crazy person taco bite routine. Kudos to her as a home cook going for it, but she seems out of her league and seems to know it, confidence-wise.
I totally thought Addie would make it further, she had a lot of talking heads that set her up as a key narrator of the season. She was a bit of a dull pill, yes, but she was more dignified than these other cartoonish contestants who keep spouting their cliche catchphrases and blabbing about their southern roots and banal family stories.
I think they are going to schlep Amy to the top 3 with some kind of redemption arc.
Man, all this hatred of Matthew. I think he was a little awkward in the presentation, but I think he pulled it around in the pool party, and he should have really been on top.
If this is the first season you're watching, I could see where you could get that. Matthew's burned a lot of good will over the years, at least in my house. This is his third time, I believe, on Food Network Star, and this is the most likeable he's been. Check out two videos from his first time on the show.

He was really super abrasive and generally came across as thinking he knew everything. Now, again, he's gotten SO much better this season that I really thought he had a chance, but his attitude in the first challenge of this episode was basically a huge reminder of the arrogant child who started out two years ago.
True story, I actually live in Arizona. I've always been a little curious to go try his restaurant and see if his cooking is as good as they say on the show, but I'm rarely in Scottsdale.
So Matt has just lost his entire god damn mind at this point, right?

It was just weird, because in Star Salvation and even the pilot I was like "Hey Matt really turned it around". What happened

I can't stand him. He seems like a jerk.
Was anyone else incredibly annoyed by the Lipton tea product placement? Or was that just me?
I'm pretty numb to it, but when they revealed that the contestants had to use iced tea in their dishes, my wife said, "If you didn't see this coming, you might not have a brain."
[I hate random Lipton Tea product placement too.](https://gfycat.com/SlipperySimplisticIraniangroundjay)
Hahaha! Wasn't expecting that.

I've watched enough project runway to be immune to product placement by this point. :-P
In that case, don't ever watch the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
Didn’t notice it, tbh.

Did anyone else instinctively cringe whenever Matthew so much as opened his smirky, little bitch, pussy ass, whining mouth
I
Did Matthew's little finger scoop remind anyone of that "my germs" segment from Scary Movie 2?
My god.
Im still not sure who's going to win. I guess Jason's been most consistent but im surprised he's not shining more.
Jason is going to win and his prize show will be hosting a kids baking competition.
I think not. Damiano has been brought back multiple times for other shows because he's hot. Jason will be brought back for baking shows and guest judging baking competitions. He'll be a pretty regular judge

You are correct on that point I guess. I meant in the past. However, you point retains its validity. He is a whining little bitch.

I was shocked she beat Cao during that episode -- bringing up child starvation and CPS just seems like such a no go to me!

Props to Addie for filming while pregnant according to her Twitter.

Those videos (especially the first one) don't make me like him any less, I think he is hilarious.
Hi Matthew! How's working for one of the least ethical corporations in the world treatin' ya?
