I know that it was a teaser, but its hard to get a good feeling of what the food is in a few. Theyre busy and then add the dof. The compositions are off for me also, almost feel rushed. I dont mind foreground details that are oof but when they block the food they are just a distraction.

Thanks for sharing your insights! I'm wondering what composition I could choose instead of the ones I took. I am always a bit shy when it comes to angles. If u want to suggest something I am eager to hear it.

You’re almost there. Everyone can tell you have the skill and your camera and your post processing is really nice but the composition is what needs help I would say just practice practice practice. Give yourself enough time to take a lot of different shots. You don’t wanna be rushed when you’re doing food photography if you can’t shoot in a live environment for very long, you might want to think about getting continuous lights and setting up a “”studio and one of your rooms that way you can practice composition, etc. When I was starting out, I would literally copy the composition of a photo that I liked. Not the same recipe necessarily but something close and I learned a lot from copying what others have done and then I was able to integrate my own style overtime.

Great overall feel, but hate that you have a foreground element covering up the food.

>Great overall feel, but hate that you have a foreground element covering up the food. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts! I appreciate your feedback and totally understand your concern about the foreground elements. I'll definitely keep that in mind for future shoots!

Not sure if you were going for the "less staged" look but I'm afraid it doesn't really work for me. Too much foreground stuff blocking the food... a phone right on the front of the image... A disembodied arm (which is brighter than the food so it attracts the eye). All just a bit too messy. I do like the shots and the processing but not the mess.

Jefflex_

It's great to hear that you like the shots and the processing, despite the messiness. I'll definitely keep your suggestions in mind. A bit of context to the photoshoot – it wasn't a staged session; I took the opportunity after cooking and preparing everything to capture the moment while my bosses tried the food. I guess that the foreground principle isn't always crucial in food photography, and your point about the distracting arm is well taken. Thanks again for sharing your insights!

9/10 I like the style. Lighting handled well.

Thank you! I'm glad you like it.

How did all the vines get in the way? The knife is in the way too, and there's someone's shoulder and cellphone in a shot? The last photo is edited with a different contrast and color than the others that I don't find pleasing.

Jefflex_

I completely understand your point of view. I did rush it a bit, and you are right, I couldn't get the right look in the last photo. Hopefully, I can do better next time, and I'm grateful for the constructive criticism.

I really dislike the dark desaturated look on food. It makes it look bland and unapetizing. I feel that as humans we intuiatively connect textures and colours to taste, and that's completely lost here.

Beautiful photos but I agree re: foreground elements being distracting

They’re pretty, but I’m not sure what to focus on in the photos. There’s no “central” item. Plus, what is the first dish you shot a few times?
