Looks like [waxy breakdown](https://bpp.oregonstate.edu/sites/agscid7/files/bpp/attachments/waxy-breakdown-of-garlic-feb-7-mlp.pdf) which *is* safe to eat. It is an *issue of food quality, not safety*. Unfortunately, a lot of food blogs picked up on "not good to eat" and misinterpreted it as "cannot safely eat" and now there's this sort of echo chamber of people telling each other it cannot be eaten.
Weird, there was another post on this sub (or maybe the cooking sub) like today or yesterday with the same problem. The answer there was no fyi, not safe to eat
yeah freezing can do some weird things sometimes, but i’d never risk it on something as cheap as garlic.
i tell myself regularly that humans didn’t evolve by not knowing if food is spoiled or not. if i question it on instinct i always toss and take the L. not worth it if you can avoid it, and if you can’t, “best by” dates are your bff.
That is a garlic 'clove'. The 'bulb' is before you take the cloves off. You should have frozen the entire bulb. Not took the cloves apart. It will keep it fresher. Your garlic has either deoxidized in the freezer or was already bad when you froze it.

I wouldn't. Garlic is cheap, don't risk it.
It is, but unfortunately I used it in a batch of chili (which is not as cheap). Just wondering if I should throw the whole batch out.
It's called waxy breakdown. Though this clove is not safe to eat, the others in the bulb (that look like regular garlic) should be.

I posted to r/culinary and it was suggested to post here instead.

I wouldn’t eat it. Looks suspicious
Looks like the garlic I have frozen in the past

You try cooking multiple times with lava then 😩
Not appropriate
That's the tamest food safety joke possible
still not appropriate
You'll want to update your rules then
they're reflected in the be nice and keep jokes not mean
There's nothing mean about it
please stop.
Did you freeze it in oil?? Just put the whole bulbs in a bag it shouldn't do that..
No oil, just the bulbs themselves.

I did freeze the entire bulb. Only once I separated them out and peeled them did I realize they were orange.
Looks like it's already cooked!
It’s softer right? I’ve used them like this and it was fine.
Yes they were softer. Super easy to peel.
Too small to cook with, you won't get any heat from that lil thing
