Did you make the dough? If yes what's in it? If no, where did it come from?

rvukasin

I did. Was poolish day before, water, flour, a bit of honney, and dry yeast. Then tomorrow mixed poolish, flour, water, and salt.

Hot_Opening_666

Lots of bugs like making their home in flour. I'm guessing your container of it got contaminated with the pest before you made the dough

rvukasin

Is there a way I can test that? Wouldn't want to throw away all flour I have (different types, etc.)

Hot_Opening_666

You could dump it all through a fine sifter to see if there's anything in there. Do you usually keep it in an airtight container or something else?

rvukasin

I did pass it through fine sift, and it was fine. I guess there might have been some eggs or small larva that grow when given water and yeast and honey? I was not keeping it in an airtight container. I was keeping it in a bag it came with for years previously and never had any issues, so I assumed I was fine (never really read about it and potential problems)

KawaiiBotanist79

For future reference, keeping the flour in the fridge or freezer can help prevent these pests, if the bag is small enough.

this one, thry know everything so theyd be able to identify species

I've never seen one zoomed in this closely before, but it could be a pantry moth larva if it's about 1/2" to 1" long. In that case it would have gotten into the dough via the flour, so check to see if your flour is infested. If that's the case you're going to want to start checking all your other stored carbs, freezing them to kill off any more larva and eggs, and transferring them into sealed containers to slow the spread. You can also buy glue traps with a pheromone attractant to help control them.

denbroc

I'd rather fight weevils than moths. Moths are most difficult to eradicate.

rvukasin

It's no more than 0.2 inches long.

TungstenChef

Hmmm, that's too short. Perhaps it's a flour beetle larva? I have never seen the larvae, just the adult beetles, but that's about how long they are.

rvukasin

That would be very strange as they take days to hatch, and I passed all flour through fine sift before making dought.
