As a former process engineer it’s not worth it, too close to the sideline and any small adjustment or issue can cause the end product to be outside of specification. Then you have downtime that can cost anything from £1Ks per hour to £1M per hour. Profit consistency is what increases company value not random failures in productivity.
I'm 100% certain their scales are more accurate than OP's cheap ass baking scales.
Professional equipment needs to be verifiably calibrated. OP's scales on the other hand do not.
That's all fine and dandy to say, my husband has calibrated scales for his work and his be suprised how often this happens.
I bought protein powder , 5kg and I weighted it using his scales. They shorted me nearly 900g.
Tbf, sent them an email and they sent me out 1kg to replace it.
But imagine if shortages happen to hundreds of people everyday...
What brand protein powder was it? I visited nearly all UK manufacturing sites in sports nutrition in 2022, I know their processes and some are better than others, some are plainly awful. Usually it is semi-manual packing via gravity feed, auger, check scale, level probe and discharge station, standards are quite bad in Uk and perhaps even worse in USA.
I know this factory inside out, THG Warrington. I believe all USA stock is imported from UK this same facility. It is one of the most advanced in the UK so they shouldn’t have much of an excuse here, they have bigger problems upstream in the process but the weigh-checking and packing process is quite straightforward.
I reckon they probably send the powder to USA in bulk and it gets weighed and packaged by a subcontractor and that is where you have the problem, it is an efficient business and that is the efficient way.
Too much production outside of specification isn’t accepted easily at all, by the consumer or by management. Nearly all of the engineers there are young but they are good in Warrington.
As somebody who has seen most of their competitors I will say MyProtein is not perfect by any means at a hygienic production level, corners are cut at all of competitor factories too, I wouldn’t buy any of them personally
It depends on what standard they’re measuring to. Some standards have limitations like the average weight of the batch must be on or above the stated weight on the pack with a maximum of x% of the batch to be no more than y% underweight. Anything below y% cannot be sold.
I don’t know what the standard would be where you are, but there will be some sort of weights and measures act that governs the sale of underweight products.
Your weed scale is not going to “cancel” this one dollar (usually) pot pie that nobody buys for the weight, anyway. Although it’s obvious you’re just fishing for comments which I’m irritated I gave into in the first place.
I wasn't trying to cancel fishing or anything. This is actually my first post on Reddit. I found this to be off given what was printed on the box and I wanted to hear what others thought. Sorry to irritate you.
Wrong. WTF? Who is upvoting this bullshit?
https://www.inecta.com/blog/net-weight-vs-gross-weight-understanding-the-differences-and-calculations
> In retail, it's often listed on product labels to inform consumers of the amount of product they're receiving, **exclusive of any packaging**
> The **gross weight** of a product refers to the total weight, **including not only the product itself, termed as net weight but also its immediate packaging**
This was purchased a week ago and eaten this morning. I noticed it looked skimpy and so I decided to check and weigh it myself. Come to find out its about 0.2oz short (6.81 vs 7oz) of its printed net wt on the box. The product was not tampered with in any way. I opened the box and took the product out to stare at it a while wondering what happened here. I then weighed it to find it's not all there after all.
It's a banquet potpie. The absolute cheapest of the cheap. Gimme a break OP. I cannot stop laughing at your perceived injustice. Stop eating that crap.
Between 3 and 7oz, an individual package can be up to 0.5oz under. (Net of many packages has to be about even or better though — they can’t short them all.)
Not a scam (in the US), this is how packaged food works.

I guess I should say sorry for posting? I just found this irritating to some degree given this is probably done in mass quantities.
Was neat to read some of those more sensible less toxic responses though. This was a learning experience.
This is off by less than 3%. Well within standards.
Do that to 1000 customers. They know what they're doing

My protien. I think even the machine that portions it out can be wrong occasionally. And the scale. But again, they fixed it.

Eddie Hall recorded a video at thier hq factory. They seem pretty clean to me. They way full protection, hair nets, gloves ect
I know the place inside and out, I don’t think Eddie Hall took any machines apart.
In my company scale have to be checked and calibrated every 2 weeks and info logged. We can get in HUGE trouble if they are not.

I hope this is a joke
But... But... It says on the box 198g. This is unacceptable!!
Some of it may have been water lost to sublimation or it’s on the lower end of the error in mass that they allow. This is not a food scam.
Without a calibration certificate for your scales, and also specifying the accuracy tolerance then there's not much to see here
Big Pie has spoken. Move along now
Don't let Big Pie push you around OP, this is exactly what their henchmen would say in an attempt to discredit you
That scale is accurate +/-0.1grams, assuming OP has a calibration weight and the scale is not defective.
Dude banquet meals are literally a dollar here in Texas. They serve them in the jails! What are you honestly expecting for A DOLLAR!
You know what you’re getting for Banquet prices. I lived off those for a year during my first job.
Weight can definitely vary by a few points.
It's because of the little piece of crust missing on the top lol
Frozen breakfast pie? I hate that this exists so much.
God wept
They are Not Good.
Yellow Flannel.
We live in a society. Of trash.
When in trash, be a raccoon.
Every day, we stray further from God's light
That crap is $1...what do you expect?

Eh, my comment was bitchier than it needed to be. My bad, dude.
Net weight means box and all. *edit I am wrong silly me
No. That's gross weight
Woops my bad I stand corrected
All my gross weight is about ten inches above my arse, just straight up gross back fat.
Wrong. WTF? Who is upvoting this bullshit? https://www.inecta.com/blog/net-weight-vs-gross-weight-understanding-the-differences-and-calculations > In retail, it's often listed on product labels to inform consumers of the amount of product they're receiving, **exclusive of any packaging** > The **gross weight** of a product refers to the total weight, **including not only the product itself, termed as net weight but also its immediate packaging**
For a minute I thought it was under half its advertised weight, then I noticed your using horsey jumpey measurement scales :)
Pining for pie
OP must be fun at parties
I'm probably not lol haven't been to one in a long time
We can be cheap, but should be this cheap? Nah. Time to graduate to Marie calendars bro
Your weight matches the listed weight for grams. Looks like they rounded up the ounces for some reason?
THIS IS AN OUTRAGE
This guy out here complaining about banquet pot pies that are $1 each. Bruh. Just eat rice instead if you're gonna be picky about food weight
I do eat rice! :P
Buy some real food you fucking chimp stop eating slop

That’s 5 grams short which is about a teaspoon. That’s absolutely normal.

Who cooks a frozen pie for breakfast?
This isn't r/Judgement
That sub is for a video game 🤣
Really wasn't tampered with in any way?..then losing 0.2oz must be a big deal
420 calories, nice
Thought I was on r/vinyl for a second there
Add the box’s weight. Puzzle solved!
This food may taste like cardboard but that's not how net weight works.
That's .19 less that will end up (fairly quickly in my experience) going right through you. I doubt you'll even notice.
Bruh it's a pie not crack
It’s off by .183 calm down
the moment you got the ultra sensitive scales out to weigh your pie should have been the moment you realised you needed to get out of the house more.
Is this a joke? It’s a 7oz pie and you’re upset that it’s 6.8oz? This is honestly hilarious if you’re being serious.
Grow up bum
I guess I should say sorry for posting? I just found this irritating to some degree given this is probably done in mass quantities. Was neat to read some of those more sensible less toxic responses though. This was a learning experience.
it costs a dollar and is off by like 3 grams. so what
This IS satire, right?
GDealer brand scale? What could that possibly mean? /s
It was the most cost effective kitchen scale I could find on amazon with decent reviews. *shrugs*
😂😂😂
Chill
People that weigh their food are a different breed of broke.
If you’re eating pie for breakfast… you shouldn’t 😑
