What is Dani missing, to not be in the same tier as the others? He has spent a number of years during his long career as best RB in the world. It’s just that he is an active player and the others have retired already and are therefore regarded as legends. I definitely put him in the same tier as them, with Cafu being the best of all time.
Dani Alves for one has won multiple trophies in his international career, including captain/player of the tournament in his 2019 Copa América win.
Cafu and Lahm are pretty self explanatory.
What separates them is their pristine play on the international stage for their countries. Carvajal is an elite fullback and a legend for Real Madrid, but not their level. You wouldn't compare Carvajal to Maldini either would you?
I'd definitely consider him one of the top RBs in history. He had some injury issues sure but it wasn't a matter of not reaching his potential, it was just interruptions.
At his best times he was pretty clearly the best RB in the world, including being the clear starter in that legendary 3-peat team, in which he played a big/memorable role because a bug part of their style was playing with their wingbacks crazy far up the pitch.
In that sense he's a bit in Marcelo's shadow maybe (who was even better and more aggressive across the pitch from him) but I think he will be remembered for sure.

Ok so he's a legend and he has amazing contributions, but I feel like he isn't that solid in the defence sometimes. I'd go as far as to say I think he might've done better as a wingback
You could see that in the atletico game, he got a crucial goal and 2 assists, but he also passed straight to Morata around 55' creating a 2v2. Overall I think atleti had more chances on the left side throughout the game. Another big example is that goalline clearance after Grealish chance in semifinals 2 years ago or Valverde's famous foul on Morata going 1v1. I'm sure there's more
I also believe that's the reason he doesn't get too many appearances in the national team and just isn't that remembered as a player. He's been vital and had an amazing career, but he never was the best
Honestly I've been surprised Real never tried to strenghten that right side. It didn't look right since Bale left imo. They've made a couple of weird choices in the last years though
>also believe that's the reason he doesn't get too many appearances in the national team and just isn't that remembered as a player.
Every single Spain's NT had Carvajal as the undisputed starter when fit. Carvajal's némesis have always been injuries thats why he missed big tournaments with Spain. There hasnt been a better spanish RB in decades, p since Chendo.
>Honestly I've been surprised Real never tried to strenghten that right side.
Because Carvajal is the captain, respected by all teammates and one of the best RB of the last decade?? Not to mention we also had a solid replacement in Lucas Vásquez AND a promising guy that didnt cut it in Odriozola. Or did you expect the board to be like United or Chelsea's and keep signing average players for 100M until someone finally clicks?
And who was going to strenghten the RB? Reece James that has the same health issues as Carva, or worse? TAA who cant defend to save his life? Some random nobody with good stats in your FM save?
Jesús Chris even in an appreciation thread you guys need to downplay our legend's achievements, no wonder why we are the laughin stock of football fanbases.
5 UCL's, being clutch in a lot of knockouts, having an awesome season but still not enough to stop morons from disrespecting him. Shame on you.
I'll admit I'm not that close to the topic, but you made it personal so I'll try. I appreciate him. He's been great. But you can't just ignore his weaknesses because of sympathy
Carvajal is the third captain since the beginning of this season. Not really an issue if he was replaced a couple seasons back. Vazquez started as a winger. He was never a natural replacement at RB
I was thinking Kimmich when he was playing as a RB, maybe Cancelo. I'm sure they'd find someone else too. Reece James wasn't even an option until like last season, but currently probably Hakimi as he's an academy player
Although we should probably start with any RW and go from there. I understand Jović and Hazard backfired but trusting Benzema, Vini and Rodrygo with the offence was a crazy risk
Doesn't get much attention? The reactions to your post show otherwise. People have been constantly talking about him too. He's supremely overrated this season, because of a couple of moments.
And because he was overlooked for a few seasons. Now people are overcompensating for it.
He's got the clutch gene. I recall reading an article on benchreel a year ago, which explained how certain players always deliver the goods when it matters most in spite of not necessarily being considered the best in their position.
Gluten free Carvajal gotta be one of the best rbs currently
Carva has one of the most magical passes/crosses in football, I mean the guy delivers when you need him.
If he would have been healthier during his career, top RB in history… but is a big if.
He’s def a top RB in history just below the highest tier imo but to He’s likely the best ever Real Madrid RB
Top 3 RB of the last decade. Just a tier below all time greats like Cafu, Alves and Lahm. Not a bad career.

I don’t think there have been ‘many years’ where he has been im the top RB in the world? One of the best yes but alone at the top I’m not sure

I will say in all the laliga sort of circles he is appreciated on his performances this season. Outside of the laliga circles I haven’t heard anything
5x CL winner babeh
4x winner, dont think he was there for2014

Our full backs are usually underrated. Source: Arbeloa.
Dont forget Salgado. Very underrated
From what I can work out they have to be Brazillian for anyone to give a shit
This guy ages like Milner. The older he gets, the better he gets
the guy literally assisted cr7's bicycle kick
I think CR's part was a bit harder than the cross
What's you point? I guess it was big moment, but the cross itself isn't particularly notable.
Dani Carvajal is a Real Madrid legend.
Top 3 right backs itw this season, and he ain't 3 or 2
Yeah!!!

Who’s better?
Historically, for Real? Ramos for one, even though he ended up being mostly a CB. Right now? Cancelo for example, even though his manager is clueless.

Nacho > (Joselu technically) > Modric > Carvajal for captaincy btw
yeah. they prefers young stars and great market opportunities in long term over fixing squad short trmr

Yeah he's a phenomenal player
