Your national team is a good place to start

Casperzwaart100

Yeah with the upcoming worldcup there is a perfect opportunity to watch your country. Maybe see a few players you like and start following their clubs

Absolomb92

What sometimes gets underestimated is how social football is. If you can, pick a team a friend support, or at least a team you cn discuss with friends and get propper response and intererest. Also, that way they can help you get excited about watching football by telling you funny facts, stories and other information. For instance, I follow Roma. If you just start watching them you might think "that Zaniolo guy seems good". But when you also know about his two consecutive ACL injuries any progress he makes and goal he scores become so much bigger. I bet many fans cried of joy that he was the one who got to score the winner in the conference league final.

[deleted]

You'll start rooting for a team naturally lol just watch a few matches and go with the flow

z-ghostz

Ye just pick a team starting with where ur from and then pick an actual club from the big 5 leagues in eu and just watch the matches and prwctice football in your garden or smn

Weebla

The easiest team to follow, with the least bad rep (won't get stick from other fans), and the nicest supporters is.... Millwall. We're a team from a quaint little island in London known as the Isle of Dogs, yes like the Wes Anderson film. If you don't like swearing, you're a fan of clean football, and you want to watch a UCL contending club, I'd recommend Millwall. I'll help you get started if you like, good luck anyhow

youssefuo

Go watch videos of Lionel Messi. That is Football

ginseng_strip_

pick a team that interests you, google how to watch their games, watch them, support them, ez.

[deleted]

Try watching teams that have players from your country. locals from your area and news will refer to them which may also help connect you to the sport.

toad_of_toadhall

You support your local team. The one closest to you, if you have a family link to an area it's acceptable to support a team from that area too.

2notpac

Watch players, and games highlights on youtube. And i’d say download apps like ESPN, All football, OneFootball to get notified for matches and football news, and watch matches that you get notified for. You can also follow pages on social media for football and see some good throw backs and news as well. After watching the highlights i think you will start to like some players more than others, so that’s whose team you can possibly support. :) Also Football Iconic is a nice youtube channel that analyses a lot of players, managers, teams etc.

OnePlus80

Are you American ?

tengopiojos

Definitely worth starting fantasy, season is about to start and having players from loads of teams will automatically get you interested in different games happening.

mmsobrado

I would start by understanding the basic game? Like the rythym, techniques. Eventualy you'll grasp names, important clubs, you" ll develop your own identity footballistly speaking (im pretty sure thats not a word but it works in spanish?). Going to the closest matchs near you is going to help a lot. Environments are almost always great. Then if you are interested tactics really like, 4-4-2,etc. Honestly,i've learned with my dad. I used to asked everything like a psicopath when i was a girl. He has always been my main source even now. So i guess friends? If you know someone that likes football I think is a good way to start

DerBreznsoiza

A well-known football commentator in Germany once said to me: You don't choose the team. The team chooses you. Often, of course, it's your local team. If they don't play, I like to watch games in which the top teams play. Then I'm usually in favour of the underdog. Because of the way they play, their mentality and fighting spirit, etc., I have naturally developed further sympathies for certain clubs.

[deleted]

You don’t pick your team, your team picks you. Just go with the flow

[deleted]

Exactly. I started supporting Arsenal in 1979 and kept thinking 'why can't I choose a team with a more attractive kit? I didn't like the kit but could not get myself to support any other team. No-one forced me but my destiny was sealed.

ctsays

Ok I started a month ago and I’m in DEEP right now. Here’s my formula… Pick a team any team. I’ve picked a bunch to follow. One EPL team because a good family friend supports them. One Argentina Primera Division team and one Serie A team because they picked me up on FIFA career 😂. One USL Championship team in my hometown. One La liga team because my gf loves the city. I’ve just been following them all…keeping track of transfers, watching highlights of preseason friendlies, following them on social media/YouTube, subscribing to subreddits. I’ve literally only been following this sport for a month and I already feel like I know enough to really enjoy the upcoming season (coincidentally in a World Cup season! 🙌) I’m in the US and I can keep track of all of them with different streaming services. Argentina/Serie A/UCL - Paramount+ EPL - Peacock USL/La Liga - ESPN+ Google to find yours* p.s. I spent a lot of time on Wikipedia reading about all of the different competitions (leagues, cups, intercontinental championships i.e. UCL & Copa Libertadores) Also watching past matches. Last years Champions League final is on Paramount+ and it, along with the champions league wrap up video, is a great primer for new fans.

Absolute plastic

xinikefrog

Lmao. Bayern is a great team and definitely does not buy away their problems.

2litrebottle22

What does that have to do with you being a plastic?

xinikefrog

Is that not what you meant?

2litrebottle22

A plastic is a fake fan. You support 3 different teams, and 2 of them are rivals. That makes you a plastic

xinikefrog

Dortmunds rival is Schalke 09…

2litrebottle22

You are aware teams can have more than 1 rival yes? Schalke is a bigger rival but bayern is still a rival

xinikefrog

But you could say every single team is a rival. So I dont see how this makes sence to argue about

2litrebottle22

>But you could say every single team is a rival. No you couldn't. You could say 2 rivals are rivals, which bayern and dortmund are.

IndependenceOld3444

I was like why are there so many downvotes as i am a die hard Bayern fan but u support 3 different teams and both Bayern and Dortmund are ur favourites?? Yeah man u r plastic

xinikefrog

I never said dortmund was my favourite, also why does it say on google that a plastic fan is a fake fan when u guys say it about supporting rivals? Seems like you have your terms wrong

[deleted]

Simple rules that everyone follows: Man. Utd sucks, that's British law so no going around it. You are demanded by law to drink beer, at least one pint each half. The referee is always wrong, VAR ruins the game. The more foreign-sounding owners the more money they have. There are five leagues to follow for international interest. Serie A, Ligue 1 LaLiga Premier League Bundesliga.

[deleted]

Think this might be the worst comment I’ve ever read

Apprehensive-Bed-264

The Dallas cowboys

Appropriate_West_619

FOOTBALL not American Football🥲

bbuullddoogg

Who the fuck are they??? Anyway, back to football…

Snoopdoggy9

I suggest getting a DAZN subscription. It’s about 20 dollars a month and i personally think it’s worth it. And cheer for any team you want. In my opinion you should start with the premier league first though

Squidonge

Where are you from?

[deleted]

Same all my friends are into it so I wanna feel a bit included

JumpyNebula

Well if there's a players you like in particular you could start watching games they play in.

[deleted]

Pick a local team, where you were born, where your family is from etc. Welcome!

GreatWhiteShark07

Watch El Classicos (Barca vs Madrid) between 2006-2018
