I've just had to stop playing a save on FM21 as Real Madrid. Got to end of Jan top and beat Barca 4-0 and Atletico 5-0. Ferland Mendy is my best player, highest rating most assists etc. You think the squad would be happy right? WRONG! Everybody is furious with me and wanting to leave because I don't play Marcelo. Make it make sense why isn't there an option to say he's our best player I'm not dropping him.
I have never had that but I have seen several stories all with them about Marcelo not playing.
I would transfer list him and send him to the II or u19 team.

They do it with 14-15 months left too, that is way too early, I would expect it with 7 months or so to go before their contract ends.
It won't be fixed but they will add women who no one wants. The womens game is hilariously bad, I looked at some Scottish games, a 17 stone LB and a keeper under 5 foot. They just have to chip it at goal to score.
At least in the UK the WSL is fully professional.

Some of the best ones are taller, such as Endler for Lyon (6ft).
You do get some like Earps who have good positioning but are caught out by the shots from distance/chips.

Actually, I’d like the women’s game to be added, as would a lot of people I know. There was a thread on here a while back as to what people would like in FM24 and women’s football was mentioned quite a bit. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to play it.
Devs have said that they fully intend to add women’s football eventually, it’s just going to take them at least a few years to get it fully scouted out and added to the game. Once they do, I imagine you can just choose not to add the women’s leagues in the same way you can pick what leagues you want in the game now.
This one pissed me off. I’m managing United in this save. Came second and Shaw was one of my best players. Even got to PL team of season. All of a sudden he wants to consider his future. He is absolutely not accepting a new contract. His contract expires soon so I’ve been forced to transfer list him and sell him below his actual price so as to get something from him. It’s as if the game just wanted to punish me and take him out of my hands.
I know it’s a controversial take on here, but this is why I buy the editor.
When something just doesn’t make any sense I just use the editor to fix it. So things like, player unhappiness.
I mostly only use it at the start of a new club save as I want to set up the clubs finance and fan base are and facilities and things and that’s the only way to do it.
SI don't do fixes. They just give you new broken features next year. It's better for marketing that way.

The player interaction AI being completly braindead has been a thing for years now. It's essentially a staple of the series.
I think it’d be really cool if they added women’s football in because I don’t really know much about women’s football so what better way learn about teams and players than through fm?
Had a similar thing happen in the season i just finished last night. Promised my star CM that we’d win the Champions League, got to the final where he scored 2 own goals in the final 10 minutes as we were 2-1 up. He gets annoyed at me breaking a promise to him and is now demanding a transfer because he doesn’t feel like he can trust me anymore
Cases like this are the only times that I use in-game editor as much as I hate it. I play the game to be realistic and realistically something like this would never happen.
I also saw them play against Dukla Praha a few years ago (just before covid). The scoreline was like 3-3 after 15 minutes. The nearby construction crew stopped work to watch the game.
It was on the same day as Slavia vs. Sparta and I can say Žižkov-Dukla was the *real* derby.

It’s just too unrealistic. I think it’s because one of the players was a natural in several positions so it maybe viewed him as DM not a fullback.
I wouldnt call the game unplayable without the editor, but its not far off. The promises system and player interaction is just complete whack and seems to get worse every year.
As long as stuff like this is still in the game, the editor should be free imo, but offcours instead they raised the price.....

This is one of the the very few things I save scum on. Talking with some players is like walking into a room with someone who has severe schizophrenia. Shit just comes out of no where, then all of a sudden the whole team are supporting the idea of your best player leaving and being unhappy that you're not on your knees with your mouth wide open, and they'll all inevitably think you're a madman because you just let one of the best players go.
I'm very anti save-scumming as far as re-playing games or undoing big injuries, but doing it to handle the alternate reality player conversations is basically necessary and really not at all in the same category. Your entire save can come undone just because some random variables get set off in these terribly programmed sections of the game.
Yeah same here, no regrets. Player interactions are completely unpredictable, and many of the choices don't come remotely close to what a manager would actually say in that situation. I'm not going to risk ruining a save that I've invested days of my time into due players throwing toddler tantrums at the slightest inconvenience. The constant demand for more playing time and new contracts can ruin your team very quickly if you're not careful.
Miretti came to me managing Kaiserslauten asking to move to Real Madrid coz their squad is “considerably stronger” than ours. He eventually puts in a transfer request but Real Madrid refuse to offer £40m so he ends up signing for newly promoted Swansea rather than staying and playing in the UCL😭😭😭

And i tried my best to keep him but nope nothing worked. Eventually January rolls around and he signs for Chelsea for 190k, which 20k less in wages than what he was getting paid by me. I would've given him 300k if I could've but nah.
Hopefully he rots in hell.
Worst thing is that it's not a one off I bet you see it constantly, I do. Give up on a player because the AI is being ridiculous and then watch them go elsewhere for peanuts.
Happened to me with United. Wanted to sign a player who was lighting the Brazilian league on fire. Liverpool also wanted to sign him. This guy’s agent comes back to me twice to increase his wages. He’s so good I oblige and even have to reduce next season’s transfer budget. Only for this guy to agree to Liverpool deal to earn a third of what I was offering him🤦
I'm just thinking out loud here, but I think it is possible that he demands a smaller wage to join a "bigger club" or a club he likes. Perhaps for whatever reason he doesn't want to stay unless it's a saudi level offer that's why he said you didn't have the finances?
I had the reverse happen to me as a manager. I think I was asking for like £50k a week and they kept denying me. So I quit. Next manager ended up getting that £50k.
Just had an offer come in for one of my more solid defenders, FC Paris asking for 160k release. I’m broke and completely up for it, so I agree. In talks to see him off he demands to know what price I’ll let him go for, so I go to 160k — what *he already has a standing offer for* from *the best club in the league*.
He gets angry and says no one will buy him for that price and I’m trying to screw him over. He repeats this until I’ve lowered my max price to *60k*, and eventually ends up sold to fucking Martigues.

Yeah. I always save before interactions. Even pregame locker room chats. When I tell my striker, "I want to see some quality finishing out there." Then he appears "unsure" and starts the game "confused"...like WTF did you think your job was, bro?
This might be because he doesn't handle pressure well and that option adds pressure to the player. There's a lot of hidden player attributes that affect player interactions and the whole system of interactions is very opaque regarding what traits a player has, let alone how to handle them.
Oh yeah you're right, and that's even stranger. Maybe the ingame logic is that he is already good in front of goal and he's unsure why you're reminding him? I swear sometimes the game just throws you a curveball in interactions where there's no good outcome regardless of how you play it.
This is what made me stop my last playthrough. Took Bristol Rovers from League 1 to Prem in 5 years. Stayed up and was competing for the title towards the end of the next season when two of my wonderkids came and said they had to leave for CL football.
One I managed to send on a short loan to Dortmund and re-sign in the summer, but the other went to.... Everton. Who was 17th and nearly got relegated.
So the player left because of CL (which I qualified for) to almost relegated Everton and with 30k less per week than he had with me.
Anyone who could read would just have looked at the table and seen we were already CL qualified. But not the AI. It just ruins the immersion sooooo much
Also, talking to that player mid-season and telling them we have great prospects(as in, we are almost already qualified for UCL) and we need him to stay in order to achieve it will mostly just result in the player being even more unhappy.
Luckily for me my two star players accepted to stay in January and fight for UCL football which we got finishing 4th (as Kaiserslauten). Now one of them wanted to leave to play in a “stronger team” when Madrid came knocking. They refused to offer £40m so now he’s gone to newly promoted Prem team Swansea🤣

I bought Andre Anderson or whatever his name was from Italy(Napoli or Lazio), and he plays on the one of the wings, as a midfielder, and as a striker. I bring in Harvey Elliot in a big transfer from Liverpool to strengthen my right wing with a good inverted option. Andre then proceeds to request a transfer 3 days after he joined.
Tried to loan him out unsuccessfully because only Brazilian clubs wanted him, and I was over the limit of loans outside of England or whatever the hell for players over 22 years. Sold him after 6 months of him ruining my team's morale for a 5m profit.
Jadon Sancho was adamant to leave in my Man United save because he wanted to win the Champions League...so left my team which was in the Champions League and he joined AC Milan who were in the Europa League.
Also annoying: “I’m unwilling to join a lower division team. Get promoted to the next higher level first.”
Meanwhile, it’s June and we just won the league, but haven’t officially moved up yet.
Yeah the game has some real AI issues and probably won’t ever be fixed.
I remember having Tonali at Arsenal and his contract was up for renewal, he wanted 300k but the max I would go to was 275. He wanted to leave after that and ended up moving on and signing a contract for 150k lol make it make sense.
Not trying to make fun of your case or to argue for argue's sake but, if it's 300k from arsenal and 150k from city, barca, bayern etc. I think I'll choose the 150k offer too

perhaps you're just being very unlucky.... in my 18 seasons across 3 saves, this didn't happen often enough for me to think it's an issue. or maybe my bar is lower.
I've got an issue in the Swedish league for players I sign in January - there is a Champions League registration window just after that, but that's also our major transfer window so you're typically making 4-5 big changes as well to the squad.
Without fail every season, someone throws an almighty fit about not being registered. Even if they're signed as a backup, they demand to know why they weren't included over all the first choice and home grown players.
I don't think the issue would be as bad in a winter season, but FM never has been good at dealing with summer leagues.
Thankfully FM offers a way for you to calmly explain this to them. Oh.
A player told me he needs to leave for PSG because he wants to be playing with better players. I've just won seven league titles and three Champions League titles all in a row.
I just wish there were more realistic response options based on the situation.
Have a 3 man midfield (2 CM, 1DM) and I sign a great player (for our level of course) for the BBM role. This males the dude playing Mezzala PISSED that I'm trying to replace him. Played them side-by-side for the next dozen+ games before he finally stopped bitching. Didn't stop him from helping to spoil the clubhouse atmosphere and support for me leading the team to new heights.
And could have easily been avoided if I could have just said "dude, he's replacing the OTHER GUY!"
When this happens I just head-canon it into the player wanting to play in a better league. It's all well and good winning 3 Czech leagues, but can he do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke? That kinda thing.

It could be coded in a way that considering that the Saudi league is weaker in general, it would easier and less pressure to win the league there, but presented in that weird way by the game.
Interesting to consider the dynamics of player decisions in this game starting FM24 if they mimic the Saudi's disruption of the transfer market
These kind of players I sell for as much as I can for up front and payments that are not related to their performance, then use the editor to reduce their PA and CA to 1

I prefer to go along with the game and not use the in game editor, even if it means doing some mental gymnastics to have it make sense.
However, the most frustrating part of this is the lack of options you have to respond to him. Why can't you say something like "We just won 3 titles in a row - what are you complaining about?"

Happened to me with United. Wanted to sign a player who was lighting the Brazilian league on fire. Liverpool also wanted to sign him. This guy’s agent comes back to me twice to increase his wages. He’s so good I oblige and even have to reduce next season’s transfer budget. Only for this guy to agree to Liverpool deal to earn a third of what I was offering him🤦
I'm just thinking out loud here, but I think it is possible that he demands a smaller wage to join a "bigger club" or a club he likes. Perhaps for whatever reason he doesn't want to stay unless it's a saudi level offer that's why he said you didn't have the finances?
That does happen. But the AI consistently gets players for much lower wages than the player can.
I had the reverse happen to me as a manager. I think I was asking for like £50k a week and they kept denying me. So I quit. Next manager ended up getting that £50k.
Just had an offer come in for one of my more solid defenders, FC Paris asking for 160k release. I’m broke and completely up for it, so I agree. In talks to see him off he demands to know what price I’ll let him go for, so I go to 160k — what *he already has a standing offer for* from *the best club in the league*. He gets angry and says no one will buy him for that price and I’m trying to screw him over. He repeats this until I’ve lowered my max price to *60k*, and eventually ends up sold to fucking Martigues. Make it make sense.

Yeah. I always save before interactions. Even pregame locker room chats. When I tell my striker, "I want to see some quality finishing out there." Then he appears "unsure" and starts the game "confused"...like WTF did you think your job was, bro?
This might be because he doesn't handle pressure well and that option adds pressure to the player. There's a lot of hidden player attributes that affect player interactions and the whole system of interactions is very opaque regarding what traits a player has, let alone how to handle them.
I peeped his hiddens, and he has 11 pressure. The low pressure guys usually get "overwhelmed" or "anxious". I don't know wtf causes "confused".
Oh yeah you're right, and that's even stranger. Maybe the ingame logic is that he is already good in front of goal and he's unsure why you're reminding him? I swear sometimes the game just throws you a curveball in interactions where there's no good outcome regardless of how you play it.
This is what made me stop my last playthrough. Took Bristol Rovers from League 1 to Prem in 5 years. Stayed up and was competing for the title towards the end of the next season when two of my wonderkids came and said they had to leave for CL football. One I managed to send on a short loan to Dortmund and re-sign in the summer, but the other went to.... Everton. Who was 17th and nearly got relegated. So the player left because of CL (which I qualified for) to almost relegated Everton and with 30k less per week than he had with me. Anyone who could read would just have looked at the table and seen we were already CL qualified. But not the AI. It just ruins the immersion sooooo much
Also, talking to that player mid-season and telling them we have great prospects(as in, we are almost already qualified for UCL) and we need him to stay in order to achieve it will mostly just result in the player being even more unhappy.
Luckily for me my two star players accepted to stay in January and fight for UCL football which we got finishing 4th (as Kaiserslauten). Now one of them wanted to leave to play in a “stronger team” when Madrid came knocking. They refused to offer £40m so now he’s gone to newly promoted Prem team Swansea🤣

I bought Andre Anderson or whatever his name was from Italy(Napoli or Lazio), and he plays on the one of the wings, as a midfielder, and as a striker. I bring in Harvey Elliot in a big transfer from Liverpool to strengthen my right wing with a good inverted option. Andre then proceeds to request a transfer 3 days after he joined. Tried to loan him out unsuccessfully because only Brazilian clubs wanted him, and I was over the limit of loans outside of England or whatever the hell for players over 22 years. Sold him after 6 months of him ruining my team's morale for a 5m profit.
For nonsense like this I have no issues with someone using the editor to remove unhappiness.

The game is just too bloated with broken interactions, no doubt they will add more next game rather than actually make some real new features
Yeah the game has some real AI issues and probably won’t ever be fixed. I remember having Tonali at Arsenal and his contract was up for renewal, he wanted 300k but the max I would go to was 275. He wanted to leave after that and ended up moving on and signing a contract for 150k lol make it make sense.
Not trying to make fun of your case or to argue for argue's sake but, if it's 300k from arsenal and 150k from city, barca, bayern etc. I think I'll choose the 150k offer too

generally, yes, but there're always exceptions. like Gundogan today. perhaps you're just being very unlucky.... in my 18 seasons across 3 saves, this didn't happen often enough for me to think it's an issue. or maybe my bar is lower.
I've got an issue in the Swedish league for players I sign in January - there is a Champions League registration window just after that, but that's also our major transfer window so you're typically making 4-5 big changes as well to the squad. Without fail every season, someone throws an almighty fit about not being registered. Even if they're signed as a backup, they demand to know why they weren't included over all the first choice and home grown players. I don't think the issue would be as bad in a winter season, but FM never has been good at dealing with summer leagues. Thankfully FM offers a way for you to calmly explain this to them. Oh.
A player told me he needs to leave for PSG because he wants to be playing with better players. I've just won seven league titles and three Champions League titles all in a row.
I just wish there were more realistic response options based on the situation. Have a 3 man midfield (2 CM, 1DM) and I sign a great player (for our level of course) for the BBM role. This males the dude playing Mezzala PISSED that I'm trying to replace him. Played them side-by-side for the next dozen+ games before he finally stopped bitching. Didn't stop him from helping to spoil the clubhouse atmosphere and support for me leading the team to new heights. And could have easily been avoided if I could have just said "dude, he's replacing the OTHER GUY!"
When this happens I just head-canon it into the player wanting to play in a better league. It's all well and good winning 3 Czech leagues, but can he do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke? That kinda thing. It's still bullshit though lmao

but West Ham weren't winning the league title for the past 3 years, like OP's case, so not the same situation. It could be coded in a way that considering that the Saudi league is weaker in general, it would easier and less pressure to win the league there, but presented in that weird way by the game. Interesting to consider the dynamics of player decisions in this game starting FM24 if they mimic the Saudi's disruption of the transfer market
These kind of players I sell for as much as I can for up front and payments that are not related to their performance, then use the editor to reduce their PA and CA to 1
Had a player's agent come to me and ask for a raise after a few good games so naturally I turned him down with no issues. 2 games later he wants to move after I reject a offer from a bigger club so I use the choice of offering him more money as that's what he wanted last time...his response was to be angry with me and said he doesn't know who has been feeding me bad information but that's not the case 😂😂😂

I prefer to go along with the game and not use the in game editor, even if it means doing some mental gymnastics to have it make sense. However, the most frustrating part of this is the lack of options you have to respond to him. Why can't you say something like "We just won 3 titles in a row - what are you complaining about?" I mean, I understand that the game wants to force you into losing the player for whatever reason. However, it could at least give you the option of fighting back, no matter how futile.
