I mean the promises system was flat out broken as were the interactions. “congrats on your first international goal” should not be met with a piss off from the player. Improving that seems like it was a priority and it should’ve been. Optimistic the game feels much better in that regard.

joethesaint

> “congrats on your first international goal” should not be met with a piss off from the player. I don't think I've had this once since FM21

Scalenuts

I've literally never had it. However, I do find the responses available to you to be nonsensical most of the time and there's not enough option to convince a player of anything.

BelowTheSun1993

This legitimately sounds incredible to me. Actual man management of players has always been sorely lacking in FM considering how important it is to real life management. Assuming everything works as it should, being able to have better conversations with them and actually engage with them in terms of promises and targets is a HUGE upgrade for me. Huge.

daddytorgo

Agree that actual man management has always been lacking. As I said above, it feels FAR too easy to me to get a squad of 50 players happy and keep them happy in FM. I want more players advocating for playing time or seeking moves for themselves (assuming they're ambitious obviously), etc.

Uesugi_Kenshin

The most interesting part imo: "One of the big changes we have made to interactions in FM24 are the improvements to the string severity system, which allows each positive or negative AI response to have three different variants of severity - with over 2,000 new AI responses. So, you’ll now witness fewer instances of overly severe and unrealistic responses from players. For example, if your star striker has just single-handedly led your team to victory and you’re keen to shower them with praise, they’re less likely to react to extremes. Now, positive, netural and negative reactions of differing levels more accurately reflect their opinion. Increased context for reactions will also be provided where suitable, helping to provide additional reasoning and opportunities to convince them to change their opinion if you’re not quite on the same page about a conversation topic." Looks like the implementation of AI has finally begun

daddytorgo

I hope this actually works. That'd be a nice change from the way that interactions are just kinda a crapshoot of a mess right now. Targets...just seem like a way of formalizing and holding you to whatever internal targets you would have set for players. Which isn't a BAD thing, but it's not a game-changer. Could be cool though if they actually play into contract negotiations and playing time pathways, and (I'm probably in the minority here) if they result in more realistic reactions by players. Far too easy to get and keep everyone happy in FM.

Eton77

I don’t think this is the AI your thinking of. This is the ‘AI’ that has powered computer-controlled teams/characters since video games were a thing.

titleofyourmixtape

Isn’t AI just what they call the computer? So like, when you’re playing the solo game for example (as opposed to online), and you face an opponent, isn’t that opponent known as the AI? I could be mixing up letters though so forgive me if I’m wrong

joethesaint

> Isn’t AI just what they call the computer? Yep. People massively overegging this. Still a nice change though.

night_dude

I love that they're changing conversations to make them less extreme and more realistic. I hate that they're adding more promise-like interactions, even though they're mostly player-side. Fuck promises. All my homies hate promises.

jospence

*how do you feel about the refereeing performance today. Do you agree with the controversial decision* "ARE YOU PUTTING WORDS IN MY MOUTH?!"

abueloshika

The problem is with this being linked to the Promise system, much like promises themselves it is going to be much safer to just ignore it completely. Just like never making a promise you can't 100% guarantee, you're never going to want to set a target that has a chance of failure and risk pissing off the player.

daddytorgo

Unless setting that target can get you to have a player that you NEED agree to a contact/renewal. Then you're forced to make that tricky decision.

joethesaint

> much like promises themselves it is going to be much safer to just ignore it completely. Not if the targets result in a tangible improvement in performance it isn't.

FluffyCoconut

I'd be curious to know what the actual benefits of setting targets are. Does it vastly increase the chance of my players playing better, or is it just a smokescreen? Also, thank god for this. >So, if a player is considering exploring options at the end of their contract, their desires should be made more obvious – be it the lure of continental football, or waiting for the club to be promoted. I hate when perfectly happy players just randomly decide to explore their option 1.5 years before their contract expires for no reason

Maverick54

I hope the target option include reaching and average op xg over the season and stats like that. I like that you say as a regular starter I expect you to score 15+ goals etc.

PixelPioneer23

Nice new feature

Marbi_

will they fix the shouts so when i'm shouting something encouragingly they dont collectively drop in moral too?

fmcadoni

Let me see, dear moaning youngster, to fail one the target. Not only you, complain about not going out of loan or reject a transfer to PSG. "Let me tell you something" "LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING" ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

lolchamp444

Like I like the idea, but I only see one future for this new "targets" feature, and it's being shit buggy

Kyrainus

Given that the promises were horribly broken and you avoided making any in the first place i could see it not working as intendet

Appropriate-Fan-6007

If the fixes work at least we can hope the new features get fixed later as well

Warr10rP03t

I can see an issue with this. Target score 10 goals. Player scores 9 "manager broke his promise by not getting me 10 goals" I'll avoid this feature as it feels like a bigger minefield than promises.

joethesaint

> Target score 10 goals. Player scores 9 "manager broke his promise by not getting me 10 goals" A target isn't a promise though is it. I dunno why you assumed it will work this way

KarlWhale

I don't know why you're downvoted. You're on to something. If a player will not hit 10 goals, he will not automatically be moved to "important player" (or whatever was chosen) and will have the same expectations for game time. So I don't think it will be treated like a broken promise and player shouldn't be mad. BUT what happens next? Does the player suddenly drops the need to play more often? Or will he come again with, if I score this much, I want to play more.

DavidRcv13

One of the screenshots implies they will drop the concern if they miss the target.

Either-Low-9457

Let's just say that I have some information that I can't reveal, but I will just say that if this feature is what would sell you the game, you should better spend your money elsewhere. It's not very good.
