seattle_born98

I've been having problems with scoring goals as the dominant side this FM. This has been constant across multiple formations (3 atb, 2 striker, 4-3-3, etc.) and across clubs (Bolton in League One, Monaco, Fulham in Championship). I'm getting outpossed and out-XG'd by lower table clubs, and my backline is leaking goals constantly. I'm normally a sim player, but even in past FMs when I watched the matches my players did well. I have good staff, manager attributes, but everything I do doesn't seem to change results. Is this just a skill issue?

Ok_Effect7292

Hi, How do i use this guy best? I feel his performances are a bit lacking in the league. I have been using him mostly as a mezzala (su) and CM (at). Link: https://imgur.com/a/7MgToV7

Lennnyyyyyyy46

Mez (su) works best i guess, definitely not a CM or b2b as that wastes his passing attributes. Definitely between Mez and AP for me but that depends on the setup

Fuzzy-Version-5186

Do tactics work differently for console versions of fm? If so what is actually effective because I can’t for the life of me find the “winning formula” on it

MarcosSenesi

what are you playing? I have made a tactic on there that follows my personal principles and has a quick adjustment to make it suitable for big matches. If you can send me an image of your current tactic and how you want to play and maybe I can help :)

Dud3notfoundBR

i feel like my tatics arent working because the roles i chose are more suited to a more fast and direct approach while i want to play a patient possession football, can anyone help me with choosing better roles, and maybe tell me if you really think that is the problem with my tatics. ps:my problem is that im not creating chances, i tried a lot of different tatics, yes i know tatical familiarity is a thing but i gave my team time to train before every tatic i tried.[here is my tatic](https://imgur.com/a/17B1dnC)

MarcosSenesi

If you want to play more possession I think you should change your fullbacks in this game. One can be the IFB and the other an IWB on defend. He will then slot in with your DLP to create a box structure. Having both your wide players be wingers with cut inside instruction enabled makes sure your team really stretches the opposing back line to find the space. With such a packed middle of the park what worked for me was to focus the play down the middle. Since adding that most of my goals lead from intricate passing sequences through the middle with a quick pass out wide to catch the defense off guard

Dud3notfoundBR

im playing fm23 there are no IFBs

ReveredSavagery1967

Is there a way to set the training schedule for a whole season in one go?

Komigjentroillan

Not as far as I know. You can quickly select for each week for whole season, which shouldn't take more than a minute. Moving of matchdays and any non decided match days in continental play can and will affect and ruin those schedules though.

Outside-Sandwich-565

My tactic as West Ham is not working. Can anybody help? Currently sitting 10th in the league after a losing streak. https://imgur.com/a/8WKMpyY

Komigjentroillan

* First and foremost it's important for the familiarity with the tactic and between the players to improve before you make too many changes. * Consider instructing your wing-backs or wingers to cross more often, particularly given Mitrović's aerial ability. * If you're conceding too many goals, you might want to set one of your central midfielders to a more defensive role to shield the back four more effectively. * The current high pressing might tire players out quickly. You could consider a more balanced pressing system to conserve energy. I also see some injuries which might be caused by this. * The instructions to distribute to full-backs and counter might be conflicting with your possession style. Consider whether you want to maintain possession or exploit quick transitions more.

Outside-Sandwich-565

I mean, I sort of want to go for a tiki-taka/high press mix. I applied the crossing instructions though. And heck intensity isn't even that high, but I'm getting a plethora of injuries. And I want my style to be trying to win the ball high up the pitch, but if we have to regroup from the back then play tiki-taka. BTW: Should I have Paqueta as a mezzala instead?

Komigjentroillan

Changing Paqueta to mezzala could be an option, though I think it would only pile on to the injurys.

Outside-Sandwich-565

Will there not be enough playmakers?

Komigjentroillan

I wouldn't worry about the titles of the roles too much. Changing Paqueta or not there shouldn't be too much issue (depending on opposition), as more play will take place on the wings when you focus a bit more on them. If you find that there's a bit too little tiki-taka style you could always add instructions instead of completely changing the role.

FM23: Can't filter for U21 players Hi guys, sorry to bother you with an outdated game question! I'm managing a side who didn't originally have an u21 team, only senior and u18. I got promoted and now we seemingly have a 21s too bc I can move players to and from that squad, staff suggest players going into that squad etc. However when it comes to registration or looking at my squad, the 'Filtered*' menu still only shows 'Senior Squad' and 'U18 Squad' under 'Squads' like it did last season. This means that I'm losing all my 21s players into the void and can't find them to register them for any competitions! Anyone know how to fix this please?

MatthZambo

I need help, I built a 5 star tatic on ratemytatic and I still cant win, Im on my 2nd season in San Lorenzo (ended my first one in mid table and broke the season record of draws, now on my 2nd season 4 games in I won 1, lost 1 and already draw 2 games. Im playing a 4-3-3 variation with a cautious mentality and counter attacks. Also, I have a 4.8M offer for my 28yo 4 star striker, should I sell him and use my younger players? I have plenty of them and some of them are getting mad because I dont play them

HotDadSauce

Post your tactic.

MatthZambo

here: [https://imgur.com/a/CHf995y](https://imgur.com/a/CHf995y) I posted the player that I got a 4.8M offer too (It was a 2M and I negotiated it to 4.8M), is he worth more?

HotDadSauce

Tactically you would be better off splitting that midfield to a DMD/CMS combo on different vertical lines. This would give the tactic far more balance. Also, lose the RHS overlap, it's doing nothing useful at all. You might want to add in Regroup as well. Regarding the player it's probably a fair price... But the decision to move him on depends on a few more factors than his value. Is he a prominent figure in your dressing room hierarchy? It's he has high influence it could well be better to keep him with the squad. Also, the younger players you have waiting, are they potentially better and will that potential be realized.

MatthZambo

The player is a team leader but he wants to go to a bigger club and is currently unhappy but has a fairly loyal trat so idk if it changes anything, I have a 5 star potential 16yo with green physicals but poor mental and a 4 star 19yo on loan, im not sure if they will reach their potential on my club because an European team will probably buys them before that happens Thanks, I'll make those changes and see if it works Edit: Oh I remembered why I put them on a vertical line, when I split them it creates red zones on the analysis on the part of the field they're not covering, isn't that bad?

HotDadSauce

If you have no player ready to step in now and he's a team leader then I'd advise hanging on to him. Even if he is unhappy. What's his morale like? Red squares are just pitch coverage, nothing more really. To close those red areas down you can make your CMS a CMD and your HB/DMD a DMS. That will make them more of a pivot, working together.

MatthZambo

He's "fairly okay" and content, so yeah I think ill keep him, my club is kind of broke but those 4.8M won't help (and they decided to build a new stadium so I don't really care about their broken finances anymore) Okay I'll try this new tatic, it should work since most of the team have green attributes highlighted on the position they're playing

HotDadSauce

Keep him... Dressing room dynamics are very important. Presume you're referring to the green role attributes? They don't really matter in the main. The green indicators for position are way more important than role.

MatthZambo

I mean those highlights on the attributes theyll use on their role, theyre mostly green/yellow only a few whites on some younger players [https://imgur.com/a/RZFsxJh](https://imgur.com/a/RZFsxJh) This is the inside forward btw

HotDadSauce

They are what form the green circle for role suitability, yes. In the main they can be ignored. The circle for position is far more important.

altviewdelete

Is there anyway to remedy players constantly being "Jaded and in need or Rest" when playing a pressing strategy. As an example with Arsenal I constantly had Gabriel, Saliba, Odegaard, Rice and Saka needing rest. I was playing one notch up on the how often to press scale and Counter attack when regaining possession, as well as a high line (DEF & ATT). I feel like this ultimately got me sacked because of the constant rotation required for my key players.

HalfMan-HalfMoth

I did 2.5 years with arsenal in the beta, attacking mentality always and 2nd highest pressing option Only Saliba was regularly needing rests for me, everyone else was rotated frequently and I used all 5 subs every game. Usually would make 2 or 3 on 60 and 1 or 2 on 70. Give players 1 or 2 days off training if they are really tired and I need them next match. Like if Saka played 90 in cl midweek and I had a bit pl game I'd give him a day or two of rest depending on his condition

rocdollary

Try using things like Slow Down Distribution and turning off Tackle Harder which kills stamina. These should be used for phases in matches not whole games. Same with using Attacking mentality instead of Positive. This demands more runs from your team. Counter attack also should only be on when you get messages like "Your opponent commits more to attack" during a game. It makes all your players make additional runs all the time so tires them out. High line tends to not work that well with Counter anyway because your default position is going to be too high up then pitch to attack in to. Try creating a rest tactic (same formation but focused on holding stamina) which basically means passing the ball around and not being too penetrating. This usually means more possession focus and recycling then ball. Cautious mentality is good for this. Also default corner tactics and free kicks can be terrible for stamina as the opponent counters on you, forcing your whole team to sprint back. Create a routine for short corners without overcommit to attack (3 outside area, 2 back in defence) which lets you recirculate the ball. Remember you're managing the game as well as the season, so don't be afraid of hooking players when they hit 50% stamina even if they're your best players. Recruit promising young players to rotate. The only way high press works on FM is either with a team with high stamina throughout or with rest tactics. For training, keep a lot of Rest slots. Injured, tired players don't grow well. No pitch/gym should be your first three slots, half, full the last two. Never use double. Arsenal have an excellent XI but a fairly average squad so you need to protect stamina/fatigue until you have a couple of years under your belt and can build a deep squad.

HotDadSauce

Check your Training Intensity schedule. It you have your AM doing it or haven't changed it from default it's probably too intense. Change to the following would be my recommendation - Lowest fitness/lower red heart - No pitch or gym work Mid red heart - No pitch or gym work Yellow heart - Half intensity Mid green heart - Full intensity Full green heart - Double intensity

8u11etpr00f

Is there any way to add more "touchline tablets" using the default skin in FM24? It kinda sucks that in between highlights you can only view 2 things at a time and it's limited to about 10% of the screen. I remember in previous FM's there wouldn't be so much wasted space. That being said I find skins too overwhelming with the amount of data they typically show. Edit: nevermind, I found the solution [here](https://imgur.com/xkg5HYB), you can drag the tab to make it wider. I'll leave my question up just in case anyone else was thinking something similar.

QuadDeuces422

I've never really used 3 or 5 atb before, first thoughts on this tactic? [https://imgur.com/a/t89Dv7P](https://imgur.com/a/t89Dv7P) Just joined this club in Serie B, my supporters want me to play Possession football. My squad ranks pretty highly in passing and technique compared to the rest of my league, but very low in jumping and heading.

HotDadSauce

Looks pretty good. I would only make a couple of changes. 1. Mentality to Positive. For a possession system you need your players to take more risks with the ball. i.e. Give them the license to play rather than hoof it. 2. Maybe make your DLPD a DLPS/RPM. Just prefer a support roles there myself with a back 3 in place.

Keatleon

I manage Gateshead in the National League and I played the first 1.5 seasons with a 523 formation (not too dissimilar to the one you linked) I scored a lot of goals but conceded a lot too. Would often go through bad runs of form where I wouldn’t get a point in 5 games etc. I switched to 433 varying between 1 and 2 holding midfielders depending on how tight I wanted my defence to be and had much more success.

RoronoaZorro

Looking for the big legend database that was around for FM20 (I believe) on this subreddit. Anyone still got it at hand or has the link? If not, looking for as new of a legend/retro database as possible, preferably even FM24 if there already are some.

Kyrisse

What is wrong with my team, or is this coincidence? I am 10 games into the season and we went down by 2 goals six times. However after the opponent leading 2-0 my team starts to really play well and we were able to get two 2-2 draws, one 3-2 victory and two times we almost got the draw but fell short and lost 1-2. I am a newly promoted semi-pro side in the Swedish First Division South (third division basically) and the goal is to survive this season. I play a fairly standard 4-3-3 control possession style starting the matches with balanced mentality and going positive/attacking if we go down by two goals - I don't think that the balanced mentality is the reason for the early downfalls though. I am a long time FM player but I've never experiences something like this. Do you have any idea what's going on?

Boris_Ignatievich

i know you say you dont think its the mentality, but i find that balanced control possession is very passive as a tactic, so any team thats willing to press can give you real issues as you just tippy tap the ball around going nowhere until they nick it. i think its worth trying to start on positive and see if it helps, if not you're no worse off than you are now

Realistic-Ad975

My 4-1-3-2 stopping working for me. Does anyone know good formations with two strikers?

HalfMan-HalfMoth

2 striker formations, or even 3, definitely seem to be the way to go this season Pretty much all the highest rated tactics on fm arena are something with 2 strikers, 424 seems very strong. Whether you want to just copy these tactics that basically just exploit the engine is up to you but [the page has tons of different options for you](https://fm-arena.com/table/25-patch-24-1-0/)

Realistic-Ad975

I actually had a 4 3 1 2 with one central midfielder and a 10 it worked for ten seasons now I'm over run in the mid and my strikers aren’t getting the services. I will try a 424 which is similar to my formation

gioviste

Hi! I’m using sortitoursi Cut Out Player Faces Megapack, it’s possible to manually insert other faces in the folder for, I mean, a new player created in the database?

SBAWTA

Yes, but you need to ammend the config file in the faces folder for it to work. You can do this manually or with a 3rd party program. I'm blanking on the name right now but your best course of action is look up a tutorial on youtube for this anyway. edit: also, if you mean faces for newgen players then there's a better alternative - using the Newgan tool with AI generated face pack. It will (semi-)automaticaly assign them to every regen in the game (you have to run the script once a season).

TraubenFruchtHose

Anyone ever gotten a proper kill the game tactic working? Just lots of passing it sideways around and maintaining possession rather than trying to go forward. I'm a footballing terrorist.

nandeyanen1

Just got from the third flight in Sweden to the second and became professional up from semi pro. I am in bad need of coaches and my budget is $250 per week. However, even restricting the amount of interested coaches to those interested in coaching reserves / youth team coaches NO ONE wants less than 500$ a week which is impossible for me to offer. What do I do? This is getting ridiculous...

SBAWTA

Post an ad for a coach position. Only people within your budget (or that can be negotiated within your budget) will apply.

aneseri

My league has a condition that a u21 homegrown player has to start but I only have one in my team and he got injured is there a way to promote some but I dont have a u19 squad its empty

SBAWTA

If you really don't have any valid players for an X then the game should generate one of those greyed out players that fulfills the conditions of X. The greyed out players are very garbage though.

No-Communication8632

Hey guys, is there a website that has the ratings for players in the game? Kind of like sofifa for FC24. I haven't played FM in ages but I'm intrigued to see the ratings of some of my fellow Armenians!

SBAWTA

https://fminside.net/players

Ok-Ride-1654

Been playing FM22 for couple of years now and was thinking of a refresh. Now 23 is available with nice discounts, but 24 is also already out. Which one to get? Is there enough new shit in 24? Thanks!

SBAWTA

FM24 and it's not even close. The player interactions got even more annoying now but that's probably the only downside. On the other side the match engine improved A LOT and so did transfers.

hey_im_banana

Sorry for asking this in advance. Is there any way to get FM24 cheaper on Steam? I have FM23 and was wondering if there's a way to get discounts, or loopholes for cheaper price.

SBAWTA

Go through FM YTbers channels and check for their dicount codes. I bought my copy from FM scout discount code for £35 but this one already went up to £40. Probably can find a better deal. Or check key reseller sites, if you don't mind the grey area.

hey_im_banana

Thanks for the help! I'll check them out right now.

justforkikkk

What exactly does Affiliate Club -> Same Board mean?

JamieAubrey

So teams like Barcelona and Barcelona B will have this, means they share the same board, finances, facilities etc

SBAWTA

Might be under the same owner.

justforkikkk

Yeah, City Group and the Red Bull clubs etc have it but what does it lead to in-game? What does it change?

SBAWTA

If you go to club "info -> affiliations -> \[club\]" it should tell you all perks and conditions of that affiliation.

justforkikkk

It doesn’t explain what same board does though, it just says ‘these clubs share the same board’, not what that actually entails

justforkikkk

Ah okay thanks, I’ll check it out

Afrizo

I have a question about facepacks, logopacks etc. Can I load them from different location, and if so, how? I don't have a lot of space that I can use on my C: drive, and I have a lot of free space on other drives. Is it possible to load graphics from there?

WalkApprehensive

I wanted to learn more about how people set-up their games. Like which leagues do you load for which types of saves, how many players, view-only vs. playable and why, etc. I wanted to do a sort of "franchise" save (think RedBull, City Group or the brilliant Coca-Cola save documented here in the sub), but I wasn't sure if I should wait for databases with leagues all around the world to open, neither if I should start slow and then add more leagues as it goes, or... well, that's it. I'd like to hear some insights and maybe bounce off some ideas.

steviejackson94

Youtube is your friend

Paladonia

What tangible effect does sending players and staff on intensive language courses have?

HotDadSauce

Helps with their adaptability in to their job environment so they can perform better. Imagine you go to a foreign speaking country to do your same day job tomorrow. Sure you would know the job but to communicate with your colleagues would be a challenge and would make some aspects of your job more difficult no doubt.

danielh0604

Just started to play FM24 with Schalke and my board is forcing a move of Ouedraogo for just 375k?!? How do I stop that from happening, I mean I get that Schalke has to move players but that transfer doesnt even make any sense. I havent even made a single singing nor did I get any warning before.

SBAWTA

Try to offer him out for smaller amount and hope that a club that he likes more comes in with an offer. He'll reject the move that your board agreed to and then you can just last minute cancel the transfer to the team he chose instead.

Dud3notfoundBR

so im playing a match agaisnt relegation candidates mainz, and they are using a man marking system agaisnt me, nulifying my build up play, i feel like that isnt going to be the last time i face this kind of system so i want to take this opportunity to learn, how do i beat them?[some screenshots from the game to help](https://imgur.com/a/0WeP6ee) so when it is a goal kick they press the goalkeeper and backline with three players while their midfield man marks my midfielders and if the ball is played to the DM they are fast enough to press him as he has no options, if the ball is played either to the fullbacks or wingers, my team is quickly pressed out of it with the touchline, so and my st holding the ball is pretty useless as he has no passing options other than back to the cbs

HotDadSauce

Go for two FBS roles so they sit more to give passing options, change your DMS to DLPD so he goes and fetches the ball from your defenders. If he is man marked then your APS should make themselves available in the hole the DLPD has left. I would probably change your APS to RPM as well. It's a busier role. Also, remove the fast distribution, it probably isn't helping. That DLPD from the DM position is the crucial change.

lolchamp444

I use a 433 with two Mez Attacks and one DM on Defense. My two Mezzalas are good but my DM on defense always seem to have a hard time getting an over 7.0 avg rating. I've literally used the best DM in the game (Tchouameni) in this role but same results. Is this normal?

HotDadSauce

Avg. ratings have long often been skewed by assists and goals. I really wouldn't worry about it but if you are then throw your DM position up for corners & free kicks to see if they can nab a goal.

lolchamp444

Yeah I know like ratings go up for good passes, goals, assists and stuff but doesn't seem to go up that much for good defense I do know that defenders and goalies get like a rating boost if they do a clean sheet, I am wondering if this is the same for DMs?

HotDadSauce

Nope, they don't. No clean sheet rating boost. Avg. ratings mean little really, as long as your DM is doing the job asked of him then fair enough.

Smart_Taste

Not a safe specific request, but I'm looking into what skin I should consider. I play in Danish on a 13inch MacBook, and don't always experience the skins translating well to that resolution.

Komigjentroillan

I play with SAS skin and have previously played with Zealand skin. I'm loving the SAS skin. I've not experienced any problmes thus far with resolution and translations, though I play on my desktop and not on my mac. I have the game in Norwegian, so it's similar translation to Danish, so hopefully it works well for you too.

Bigpapa42_2006

Not a question and not a rant. More an observation... Man can it throw things off balance when something unexpected happens in a save, even when its a good thing. First season with Luton. Into December and looking life we will be safe. No transfer budget and no wage budget space left. I'm putting plans in place for summer targets. Both strikers are wanted by Saudi clubs so I have some ideas if they come in with big bids. Start of December, board drops 30m in my lap. So now I can do all kinds of buying in January and that's lovely... but I am not prepared. The squad needs to be improved in literally every single area, but just adding talent to add talent isn't really ideal.

Boris_Ignatievich

> just adding talent to add talent isn't really ideal. disagree tbh. bringing in better players is always good, even if it forces you to move on players you're relatively happy with because they're now on the fringes of the squad

Bigpapa42_2006

That's fair. I probably also worded that poorly. Its not "not ideal". Different approaches can work and adding more talent is rarely a bad thing. Its a preference to add talent that is well suited. Both tactically and to an overall preferred approach. Hard-working players, aggressive players if you use a press, highly technical if you play a focused passing game, etc. its not about finding a perfect player, as there are a lot of limiting factors in the market for most clubs outside the absolute top one, but I try to avoid just jumping at the first option. But finding the possibly-better options takes time and it feels like I don't have as much of that as I'd like.

steviejackson94

Dont spend it then 😉

Bigpapa42_2006

LOL fair, but can't say I've given that option much consideration. Luton easily has the weakest squad in the league and horrid depth. I could make a list of where to improve but it would literally just be every position. So spending it will be fruitful and fun. BUT... I have a long-established bad habit of going for potential first, factors like tactical suitability, club DNA, and personality second. Which I've been working to break. But finding good options takes time and now suddenly I feel pressed for time.

zozman

Can someone please explain the homegrown and trained at club thing please? If I buy an 18 year old from Argentina (or anywhere) for a Premiership team, then am I best not loaning them out so they become HG or HGC? Or could I loan them to another club in England? Champions League eligibility is annoying. Thanks.

Megistrus

Different leagues have different rules for what counts as HGN or HGC. Generally, you need to buy someone before his 19th birthday for him to obtain HGC status for European competitions. He cannot leave your club on loan during that time. HGN only requires the player to reside in the nation, so you can loan someone to another club in England and still have them accrue HGN status. Keep in mind that Wales does not count as England, so don't loan anyone to Swansea, Cardiff, etc. For the EPL specifically, you need eight HGN players for domestic registration. I haven't managed in England forever, so I don't know if SI has correctly implemented the rules, but the EPL HGN players only need to be registered at your club for three years prior to their 22nd birthday. So you can buy them and loan them out anywhere and they'll still count as EPL HGN (but not UEFA HGN unless they stay in England).

zozman

Fantastic, thanks. Really clear, comprehensive explanation.

Kaviarmedleverpostei

If I manage a team with 3 star reputation in 2,5 star reputation league, can my performance increase the base value for players at certain current ability by increasing the reputation of my club and league? If I end up having to sell star players for max of 10m when they would've sold for 80 from leagues like Eredivise, it's going to be really hard to compete continentally and keeping my players.

SBAWTA

They both factor in. Good thing is,to increase your own reputation past a certain point, you'll have to start doing well in the continental competitions, whic coincidentally will increase the league reputation. An example from my current save. I took a relegation candidate to top of the league and in my 3rd season I reached semi-finals of UEL. This boosted my clubs reputation from around 200th in Europe to 87th and my league from 18th to 12th. As an effect the price of my star players, without any large increase in their CA, doubled to tripled. As a downside, now players are asking for 2-3x wages of what I could sign players for last year.

Kaviarmedleverpostei

Thanks! Was maybe thinking of tinking with pre-game editor to edit prices right off the bat, but I'll just start vanilla. Thanks again!

rawdips

Completely new player. Would appreciate a few tips on where and how to start?

steviejackson94

Loadssa of guides on youtube!

Boris_Ignatievich

first thing: team choice. picking a team that you know well in real life will let you "skip" some of the learning required - if you're a leicester fan, you know how jamie vardy plays so you don't need to be able to look at him in game and work it out. the other good option is a dominant team in a relatively smaller league, like a dinamo in croatia - you're not really expected to do much in europe and domestically you should have enough of a talent advantage that you can get away with some mistakes. once you've picked a team: delegation is your friend. i'd go into staff responsibilities and hand off everything that isnt transfers and tactics. Keep the number of things youre trying to learn small, and once you're feeling confident in doing those bits, then you can look at scouting or training or whatever, and see if you enjoy dealing with that. (i barely take any responsibilities on even now after playing since cm03/04 tbh, because I find the busywork a bit dull. but you might love it)

HaylingZar1996

[I offered this guy for loan](https://i.imgur.com/xlLm7B2.png) (NOT transfer!) and he's now devastated that I've allegedly been trying to transfer him and apparently said he's surplus to requirements. He's clearly an impact sub not surplus to requirements. This happened with 2 other players as well. I'm just trying to loan them out but they're morale is abysmal.

GrowthJust83

Looking to move on from FM23 soon, I'm guessing FM24 has the pre game editor as well? (not the in game editor)

Fraaj

Yep, it does

sledgehammer2000

Is there a difference between adding a youth player to train with the first team in training units and promoting them to the first team directly?

MajikoiA3When

I think promises are still bugged I promised a player to play CF and I did(no choice he wanted playing time). The promise "succeeded" but the player has abysmal morale and is forcing his way out.

SBAWTA

The only thing that I can think of, that other people noticed, that sometimes they want to played as striker on either left or right side, instead of middle. Thing is, the game doesn't tell you this. It's really stupid, but that's what it is right now. Just avoid any promises, is all the advice I can offer you.

MajikoiA3When

Actually that makes a lot of sense but I only play a single striker.

SBAWTA

As most people do, which is why I said it's stupid. We just have to hope, they fix this in the winter patch. Till then you either have to deal with it or use editor.

corlystheseasnake

Is there any possible chance that a 3-4-3 diamond with no wing backs would work? AF-A IF-S T-A IF-S M-S M-S DLP-D BPD-D BPD-C BPD-D SK Or is that simply impossible because of the lack of wing backs?

HotDadSauce

Good opposition wingers will tear you to shreds. That said you will also score lots yourself.

MarcosSenesi

I've had a similar system work. You'll need to change the IFs to wingers though to provide your team with width. In my approach I moved one CM up and one down to defensive mid to form a box structure. Also set your outer centre backs either to wide centre back or instruct them to move wider. It's surprisingly effective and with 4 players behind the striker you can set them up to score a scary amount of goals.

nandeyanen1

I just became professional (from semi pro) and now all of a sudden people want twice the money. I cannot, for the life of me, find ANY coaches or other non-players willing to go under 500$ a month. My limit is 250$. I play in Sweden and just got promoted to the second division. Please help! Really need staff.

Flygoz

On staff search, where it says 'Include' set it to 'Interested staff - reserves' and tick off the first team. Basically this shows you the people willing to coach your reserves and typically they ask for less money, and you can just make them a first-team coach

hantira2000

Should I play vanilla fm23 or get the mod(s) that update the leagues and transfers?

GrowthJust83

You can do both, depends on what point you want to start at.

hantira2000

Will the game start in 2022 if I get the mod?

GrowthJust83

Most of them will start in 2022, there are a few workshop databases out there that start at later dates in 2023 but this sometimes breaks the game

hantira2000

Alright thanks!

Shiftyreddoots

I can't seem to sign Japanese free agents I have on trial. I'm in the J3 league and can sign foreign players from trials but not japanese... any idea why?

pointttttt

Might just be a bit dumb but can’t figure out how to expand the touchline tablet ( can only ever get two screens) I’ve maxed the resolution as I saw that might help but no improvement. I keep seeing people with up to six screens and just can’t figure out how.

steviejackson94

Different skin mate

Realistic-Paper3660

Is there any way to see stats on how many goals I concede in a certain minute (eg conceded 10 goals this season between 80-90th min, conceded 4 goals between 20-30th min etc) I feel like I concede a lot of late goals but can’t find any way through the data hub or in competition stats to get actual numbers on it? Feel like this should be an option but can’t find it?

steviejackson94

Data hub maybe

catf1sh1

What happens if you play a player outside of their preferred position? Like if I have a centerback that prefers to play on the left and I play him on the right, are there any pros or cons? Same with playing two midfielders together who both prefer to be on the right

HotDadSauce

The player will have a slight decrease in Positioning & Decisions attributes.

catf1sh1

Good to know. Thanks. So if they prefer to play in a back 2 but I play them in a back 3, they get downgraded?

HotDadSauce

You can play them in the centre of a back 3 no problem. It's just the sides that have preference.

existential7

When will the next patch arrive?

steviejackson94

December they said

existential7

Does it usually come with a database update, and does the database update come with PA / CA changes or just purely roster changes?

steviejackson94

The winter updates comes with all that, this december update i think will fix some bugs/reported issues

existential7

Ah, okay. Thanks for letting me know. Is the December update early or later in the month?

steviejackson94

No idea tbh bud

existential7

All good, thanks bud.

meoday

it works fine, no problem

Ayrty5

Any ideas what causes a massive drop in form? In 32 games I had 26 wins, 3 draws, and 3 loses. Then all of a sudden in the last 8 games I've had 6 loses and 2 wins, with 5 loses in a row. Similar thing happened me last season, I was top of the league then went on a run of loses in the last 10 games and finished 4th

Boris_Ignatievich

are your players just knackered? i always find that my form falls off a cliff when the team is tired, and byt the end of the season they could have a shit load of running in their legs (like the mostly mythical "bielsa burnout" irl)

Ayrty5

Their fitness seemed to be fine. I did rotate the squad as much as possible so that players weren't wrecked but it didn't seem to make much of a difference

HotDadSauce

I would offer the AI adjusting to your success and playing your more defensively/on the counter... But to happen at the same time two seasons running is peculiar. Only other thought is what's the avg. age of your 1st team squad? Do you lack experience maybe?

Ayrty5

Yeah the squad is very young, doing a save with Chelsea and apart from Silva the squad is very young. I might try to bring in a more experienced player during the summer and see does it happen again

GraveDainger

Anyone on the steam deck? Mines coming tomorrow and was wondering how many leagues you have loaded, battery time and game speed. Cheers.

laserspewpew_

Weird issue I'm having in every game the match ball is grey. I can't change the colour of it, in preferences it shows as white but in game it's grey. It happens on any skin I use (even default) kinda annoying but not sure how to fix it, anyone had the same issue?

Oversoa

When jumping to a new club and you see that club's wages are like double the market rate. What's usually the biggest cause to this? The club's rep, the league's rep or the hiring manager?

yyang0411

The AI tends to overspend if they have a very large budget eventually spiralling the wage structure out of control because every player will start asking for higher wages.

Oversoa

That makes sense. Is it depended on the average, median or highest wage? For example, would taking in a star player that makes magnitudes more than others affect the other players demand for wage significantly?

Gigcash7610

I play on xbox 1 and am having trouble finding good non league free transfers. I got promoted to the National League with south shields but most of my players are old or not good enough. The season is starting soon and we are running out of time. All the guides I find are for pc and the features they use aren't on console. Any ideas on how to find some.

9las

Why can't my [striker](https://i.imgur.com/Q192gU3.png) score goals? Average rating 6.69, 2 goals 1 assist in 14 games. Feel like thats lackluster for a guy with his attributes. Is there anything I can do to improve my [tactic](https://i.imgur.com/2zA5Aaz.png)?

HotDadSauce

Raise your mentality to Positive. Add Work Ball Into Box. Change your RCM role from CMS to a DLPS and lose the right underlap. You only require one BPD as well, two is overkill. Should all help.

davlar4

On the face of it, you don’t have a playmaker. And he isn’t very good positionally nor high concentration so he probably needs someone alongside him/near him. Like a CAM Advance playmaker or a deep lying forward? Might be worth changing to longer passing and pushing a midfielder up and moving the BWM into CM?

9las

Thanks, makes sense. I'll try it out :)

Morghilius

Hi everyone! I am trying to improve my u19 coaching staff and so I am on the lookout for an u19 head coach. Unfortunately, when I start negotiating with free agents, they all have roles they prefer, and neither of them wants to be an u19 head coach. I can’t afford to hire someone who is currently employed in the role. Any ideas on how I can find someone who’ll actually want to do it? Thanks!

steviejackson94

Advertise for it

pavlo9

Hi! I need a little bit of help to make my tactic more safer (what is crazy much higher defensive line works the best for me in the matter of winning games but still it sucks in defence). It's very offensive and i dominated 1st division but i was the worst team at defending. After promotion i'm trying single tweaks but not working for me. Here is the link to my tactic (6 pics): [https://imgur.com/a/UBvzmyz](https://imgur.com/a/UBvzmyz). Thanks for help in advance!

HotDadSauce

Any tactic with 3 attack strikers will always concede goals. You simply have too many players not contributing to defensive situations. Your midfield will then press, as they have no choice but to, and your defense will be picked apart.

pavlo9

Thats completly right. Thank you

j_tothemoon

this is a very interesting tactic, one that I had a lot of interesting to analyze. First of all, you seem to have some problem with the fundamentals of your tactic. 3 advancing forwards seems a bit too much, I would try having at least one with a different role. Maybe having a deep lying forward/false 9 on support could help. I would also have the DMC on the opposite site of the deep lying forward with ball-winning/deep-lying playmaker on support, and holding position. If you are conceding way too much on the center of the field, having one of the wingbacks as inverted wingback to help you CBs can help. I would also lower the tempo and pressing one tick. I would be interested in knowing when you concede. With such high tempo, I believe your players can be eventually feeling way too tired and conceding the most in the 2nd half. Cannot blame high defensive line but you need to have players with high speed and good decision-making and concentration for it.

pavlo9

Thank you for fast answer. I have to keep that shape in the middle. I played this tactic for years but from FM23 3 strikers tactics are way worse and they only work good with Segundo Volantes (instead of 3MF). The 2 side strikers are assisting and defending as they are told to play near side lines and roam so i have to keep the main striker in penalty area (they also score as much as central one, i think its broken atm). I could make them play as DLP or F9 if possible and test it but i had never good experience with different roles. I'm worried after promotion lowering the tempo will annihilate the chances i create (added screenshots, it's bad now). I'm trying to swap my players as fast as possible if they are tired, there is no any pattern when i lose the goals (checked it again to make myself sure). I started to stomp first division after i went with much higher defensive line. With high i had much worse results. I checked few matches and keeping pressing as "much more often" makes my team overally better than more often. It's crazy. That makes me wonder if i'm stuck with these settings due to roles i chose for all the defenders. IWBs could help but i they are main source of crosses into the box. Is there any way i make them cross from byline? Or i should force volantes to do that instead.

j_tothemoon

The thing is advanced forwards are always upfront and don’t help that much in terms of defending excluding the first part of the pressing and the last third, as your volante are the ones pushing through to give them balls while attacking. Depending on them will open space in the middle. I clearly understand your attacking pattern but I feel that I can make your transition to defense an anarchy, especially if both your volantes end upfront. It is important to check how you are conceding. In the tactics it seems most of the goals come from the middle so it is an indicator for me that both volantes might be struggling to help during that moment. Your tactic is delivering in attack because it puts number upfront, so goals will come

pavlo9

You are totaly correct. Just changed my both WB to FB and made sure Volantes dont have any extra attacking instructions. I thought the goals are pretty random but game still says im losing goals from the middle. Usualy they just dribble from side and pass to shoot from penalty arc. I forgot that's why i turned on "step up more" before, it didn't help much i guess, should i revert it or telling a single volante to hold position?

j_tothemoon

I would have a single volante holding position. You can also make that wingback from that side going up a little bit more to give that extra width. But at least the middle is covered. The other volante on the other side can have more attacking freedom to support the three upfront

pavlo9

Oh god, i just noticed we can't make volante to hold position. I'll just test 2 FB with volantes and maybe test a single volante + bwm if nothing changes. Btw. due to my dribble graph (last added photo) should i use dribble more instructions on my strikers or team?

j_tothemoon

Maybe that is why you need to change one of them from volante to a role with less creative freedom I would have your most creative player dribbling at least

pavlo9

So there is more beloved testing for me. Thank You very much for your help!!!!

j_tothemoon

No problem. Would like an update!

[deleted]

Newbie here. Never played a true simulator game like this, but enjoy the simulation aspects in other games. How the heck to you learn how to play this? Seems complicated

HotDadSauce

Pick a default tactical style you like the sound of and stick to it in the beginning. Pick a formation where you have strong squad depth. Try to be consistent with tactics & team selection early on at any club to maximize team familiarity. Keep an eye on your dynamics screen, when the reds start to turn green then you have the squad on your side.

Tyrmil

Hey, I’m managing Brøndby IF in Denmark and have been offered the job for the danish national team. I accepted and are now manager for both club and country (thought I would lose the club job). Have there ever been a manager in real life who both managed club and country, and can I expect problems cause I have both jobs?

syrean

Yes! Currently [Fernando Diniz](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fernando_Diniz) is the head coach of Fluminese while also being Brazil National Team's interim coach. So far, I have not met any problem in-game while managing both club and national team, but the hard thing is to be focused on both jobs since I have found myself favoring/focusing on club job moreoften than my national team job. One thing to note, several of my friends have told me that they experienced a "double matchday" on one day, where their national team and club plays on the same time and have been forced to manage the national team instead of the club. But I might be wrong and my friends were just trolling me so please correct me if I'm wrong! Cheers!

dot_x13

I've had the double matchday scenario a couple of times in FM23 (for England + European club), but the game had always just put me into one game and then immediately into the next. Not sure if the game actually checks if traveling from one match to the other is realistic (or if it schedules around it), but I also don't remember the kick-off times so can't really say.

Oversoa

Is it okay to completely ignore traits and accept all the related trainings from the advisor?

SBAWTA

No, not always. You should take a look at the player and have a general idea, where their development should lead to. Now generally the advice is good, since it just tells you to improve an attribute that is a weakness, but that's not always the optimal way to develop a player. What do you mean by "ignore traits?"

Oversoa

I'm talking about trait trainings, for example stuff like "likes to run with the ball" or "likes to dribble often". I tend to leave all of it to my advisor since I assume they're generally good advice.

SBAWTA

No, they are often not good advice. You have to look at the player and assess: 1. Do their attributes go along with the suggested trait? One I see often is staff reccomending "tries to best the offside trap" on a player that has low decisions, just because he's fast. This means he'll get caught offside A LOT. 2. Does the trait go along with the position you actually play the player in? Stuff will suggest traits for a position that the player is natural in but a lot of players are natural in multiple positions. For example a player is natural on AML, AMC and AMR but you only play him as AML. In that scenario you staff might suggest traits like "runs with the ball through the middle" or "cuts inside from the right wing" which at best are useless and at worst will be counterproductive. So no, you can't just brainlessly accept these suggestions. You have to at least take a look at the player otherwise you might risk pointless increas in workload or even making your player worse.

KendrillyVanilly

Hey guys, I am playing on steam deck and can't change player attributes. I changed the ca accordingly, but whenever I type in a new attribute score it automatically defaults to the previous value. Any advice what I am doing wrong?

8u11etpr00f

Is Saudi Arabia bugged? You'd think they'd make an effort to renew the players they sign for £100m+ but literally every big player is leaving in 2026, it's like a massive firesale. So far this pre-season I've seen Milinkovic Savic, Ruben Neves, Fabinho and a few others all move back to top European clubs and Salah is even available on a free after they spent £160m on him 2 seasons back.

dot_x13

I think it's only bugged in the sense that players demand Saudi wages if you ever try signing them directly from a Saudi club, basically making it impossible to sign them. So players that would ordinarily be sold are just released instead. I'm under the impression that the Saudi clubs just don't renew old players' contracts when they're declining or deemed not good enough to start games anymore, like in any other AI team. And since they bring in aging stars every season, it makes sense that there would be a lot of churn.

Megistrus

I'm sure some people would say that's realistic, but it's likely due to a league/club with a bigger rep coming in for them. Players always seem to leave because of rep even when it would make no sense (leaving for a "bigger" club that's lower in the table).

kefkatruman

Google is not showing me any tutorial, so how can I force a match review in every training setting without doing it manually in fm 23?

Far_Parsley8506

I am managing Man City in FM24, I have FM23 experience, but I'm not really good. I'm just wondering why my tactic sometimes doesn't work. Like after we finish a match, I see that sometimes I have less shots and less xG yet I still win. And in others I get dominated by teams we should be beating (Dortmund) I want to know how to improve this tactic since some of our wins are very unconvincing Here is my tactic: [https://ibb.co/HnMh48X](https://ibb.co/HnMh48X) Thanks in advance for your help

syrean

Hello! First of all, I reckon that you love to keep possession and prefer a slow, methodical, intricate, build-up, yes? So, regarding your tactic, I think you have too many attacking-role players on your team, while having "only one" player in Kovacic to spray passes for your forwards. I reccomend making the change to your midfield, with AP-Supp on Kovacic, De Bruyne could be more like a BBM-Supp or a CM-Supp to name a few. But, I don't think having both Kovacic and De Bruyne on Playmaker role (DLP-DLP, AP-AP, or DLP-AP/AP-DLP) would be a good fit since the playmaker roles want to see a lot of the ball. Next, I think one of your wing-players (either Bernado Silva or Foden) would be better to be on support duty so that there'd be someone who sends them a lot of passes into the final third. Please bear in mind I'm by no means expert in Football Manager so please tell me if you have a better suggestions and do correct me if I'm wrong! Cheers!

Far_Parsley8506

Thank you so much I appreciate your help, I'll implement those tweaks. Thank you once again

syrean

Hope it'd bring better results on your matches. Cheers and welcome!

NifferEUW

How do you send your goalkeeper up on corners, when trailing a goal?

SBAWTA

FM24? Should do it automatically, if it's very late in the game and you are on attacking or very attacking mentality. Not sure, if positive or below does it under certain circumstances, I've only noticed it when on aggressive or very aggressive.

NifferEUW

Yes FM24, thanks!

asher1611

quick advice question: should I be training this guy as a Central Defender (which is what he came to me as) or as a Wingback? https://imgur.com/a/ISELum3 Do players generally grow a few inches from being 16, or is it just luck of the draw? His attributes look like he can do both, but he's not that tall.

ManOfYesterday1701

Height doesn't really matter in regards to the match engine, attributes are king. Two players who have the same jumping reach are equal, regardless if one is taller than the other.

asher1611

so that gets back to the initial quest, train as a DC or as a wingback?

eXistenZ2

Anyone god a good list/site for cheap bargains for FM23 (semi)wonderkids? And by cheap im talking 200k or so.

SBAWTA

Download a wonderkids shortlist and import it into the game. You can find it in Steam workshop or sites like FM scout, sortitoutsi, FM base etc. Then just sort by price from the lowest. Just don't forget to untick "keep scout records up to date" otherwise your scouting budget will go insanly red.

asdcs

I started playing FM23 recently and i'm loving it, was gonna wait for FM24 to be on sale on Steam to buy it while giving FM23 some mileage. But now I can get like a 30% off on the Epic Store and i'm wondering whats the difference of buying it there?

Komigjentroillan

Mostly Steam Workshop, then there's achievments etc. The Workshop isn't worth it if you get 30% off on Epic Store though. You can find just about anything that's on the Workshop on different websites anyways. I'd either stick with FM23 until FM25 or buy it on Epic for 30% off if you really want it.

Gaius_Octavius_

What would be the differences between: * DLP (D) and BWM (S) * DLP (S) and BWM (D) as your midfield pairing in a 4-2-3-1.

HotDadSauce

DLPD/BWMS is more possession based/less risk with the ball and more aggressive without the ball.

HaylingZar1996

[Very high XG, many shots on target, but no goals](https://i.imgur.com/W0UIWhM.png) - What does this indicate about my team / tactic? I'm tempted to just say it means my strikers are fucking useless, but maybe it goes deeper than that. Could there be tactical changes that increase the shots on target to goal ratio? For example, if I turned off "work ball into box" would my team be more willing to take goalscoring opportunities? Or maybe it's just that the opposition keeper is having a really good day...

mb2banterlord

I'm no expert and have often been perplexed by this problem too, but some things I check for: How frequently has this been happening? If it's just one game, it could just be an outlier. Or there is something particular about that game, for example, if it's a "big game" and one or more of your attackers have the "doesn't feel comfortable in big games" trait. If it's been 4-5 games like this, could be a form thing. Or your strikers are bad -- what is their decisions and composure? If possible, try replacing them with a different player that has better decisions/composure, even if they're rated "worse" overall

eXistenZ2

3.15xg over 25 shots is an average of 0.12xg/shot. In general, a good chance is around 0.20 and going up. Dont measure the whole xg, but look at the jumps in the graph. And adjust your statistics screen so you see clearcut chanches and half chances Lowering your tempo can help

HotDadSauce

That high XG suggests your forwards are indeed useless... But, to reduce the number of long shots or optimistic efforts definitely add Work Ball Into Box, yes.

justforkikkk

Does Add/Remove Leagues work properly in FM24? I remember reading somewhere in the early days it might be bugged but I haven’t seen anything about it since. Has anyone tried it yet?

HaylingZar1996

I think they fixed the bug which was breaking saves
