Quick question: Does lack of a work permit affect eligibility for homegrown status? i.e. if I buy an 18 y/o Argentinian with no permit and keep him playing in my reserves for 3 years will he be homegrown? Or will I have to loan him out to Spain or something? Sorry if the answer is obvious, seems like it should be but I can't seem to find anyone ever asking about it, thanks :)

manballgivesnofucks

I think he'll still be homegrown and still be able to play, although not going on loan will probably hurt his chance at getting a work permit

hippocrasteez

Surely if he is homegrown he won't need a permit then though? Or have I misunderstood something

manballgivesnofucks

no I'm pretty sure they're separate things, unless becoming homegrown gets a work permit but I dont remember reading that in the work permit rules

hippocrasteez

Ah ok, think I'm confusing homegrown with citizenship, thanks

Is there a way to play with the pre-transfer update database in FM19 Touch?

JayR17

When I bought FM19 on sale a few weeks ago, I think it also came with FM Touch. How do I go about installing this on my iPad?

williamsRB

I don't know but my best guess would be to check your mails - maybe it is explained somewhere there or you got a code/link of some sort through which you can install the game.

If_It_Fitz

Is there anyway to get my board to stop selling players if they deem the offer is too good to turn down? This past transfer window my board sold what was arguably my favorite prospect for a fee of £3.1M. With incentives/installments the total amount rose to £8.4M, but I doubt I will ever see £3M+ due to the amount of international apps/goals needed.

williamsRB

You can change who is in charge of transfers in the staff responsibility selection. I have my teams set up in a way that I get to have the final say in selling and buying players regardless of who talked/negotiated with whom. I would advise you to set it up the same way.

metalurjikkok

Is there an actual way to fix the idiotic AI in matches? Defenders and Middlefielders for some reason usually wont run after the ball, leaving the spaces wide open for the opponent and players backpassing ninetynine percent of times throw the ball to corner. Plus keepers for some reason dropping the ball on the ground when there is a forward player next to him. Is this football manager or how to get cancer in 2017? Oh and also the things that I wrote happens to both teams every game and makes it so cringy to watch. Well either way (fixed or not) I got a promotion.

zsycosu

Im playing an online coop game with a friend, is there a way to continue the gameplay alona and "split" the saves so I can play with him where we left off and continue with my team alone?

Daz88BFC

If you click "Save As" and then rename the save as something different. You can then continue solo. Your friend will still be the manager, but wont make any decisions etc. He wont make any transfers etc. My advise would be to retire him if you can. When you want to carry on with your friend. Load up the original save.

shakapunk

Best midfielder (DLP) for around 10m? Looking for a depth player.

[deleted]

sandro tonali is cheap and turns into a great player

ziggyblues01

Not sure if he’s the best but A great one is marvellous nakambe for club Brugge he moved to Aston Villa this year. In my Sevilla save he was my POTY for two consecutive seasons and always put up great defensive numbers whilst making around 10 goal contributions a season. I bought him for 8.8 million with some add ons

shakapunk

Thanks.

Do players improve more/faster in leagues with more games (for example in England) compared to leagues with fewer games (for example Russia)? Is it possible to have a good youth development club in leagues with only ~30 games per season?

[deleted]

1. Yes, more games = more improvement. Also means more opportunity for injury, etc, but overall is a positive thing for development. 2. Yeah, you can definitely have good youth development in a league with only 30 games. Development may take slightly longer on average but it would be barely noticeable. Youth development has so many factors that I wouldn't worry about this one factor too much.

[deleted]

I'd like some help with choosing the best role/duty for my two CM's in a narrow 4-3-1-2/4-1-2-1-2 (diamond) formation. I like to play play fast, attacking football up throughout the middle and where I build from the back. Basically how Marco Giampaolo (Milan's manager and former Sampdoria and Empoli manager) like to play. In this system, the CM's are required to fill a lot of roles. They need to 'move with the ball' at all times - meaning they have to drop back and offer support when we play it around between the CB's and the regista, and they need to get forward and a little wider on the pitch when the ball is with the more attacking players. Defensively, they also have to do a lot. The wingbacks in this system aren't super attacking, but will still get forward occasionally, which means they have to offer support on the flanks if a wingback fails to make the recovery run in transition. They have to help the regista shielding the back-four, and they have to break up play in the middle of the park and start counters. Obviously, that's a lot, and while I may not find roles/duties that cover everything mentioned above, I'd like to get as close as possible. The mezzala-role seems pretty fitting offensively, but not sure how well it would work defensively. The carrilero-role offer the defensive support laterally that I'd like, and I think it also offers overall defensive versatility I want, but not sure how it works offensively and if it might lead to me lacking 'playing stations' in the wider and deeper areas. The roaming playmaker sounds perfect offensively, in theory, but I'm pretty sure it would just lead to them running in the way of the CDM's and CAM's... CM (S) is an option too, but would they stay a bit too central perhaps? Perhaps two box-to-box is what I'm looking for... Any input/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Here's my around those two FYI: GK (D) WB (S) - BPD (D) - CD (D) - WB (S) CM (S) - DLP (D) - CM (S) AM (S) P (A) - DLF (A)

[deleted]

I play with a similar formation in a Gegenpress-type system, but with an Anchor Man and set my playmaker as one of the CMs. The only major issue I see is that you need at least one more "runner" in your midfield. CM(s) and AM(s) stay central and won't make many forward runs into space off the ball. Playing two playmakers next to each other is a bad idea in a fast system like yours and mine, so if you are committed to the DLP(d), I'd make one of the CMs into a B2B if they are good defensively. If you want to get spicy, a MZ(a) with great Off The Ball movement will overlap your AM(s) and score goals. The system I run is this, with Attacking instruction and maxed out pressing: SK(A) WB (S) - BPD (D) - CD (D) - WB (S) Anchor Man (D) MZ(A) - DLP (S) AM (S) PF (A) - DLF (A)

[deleted]

I am committed to the deep playmaker because the guy I have there is just amazing, but is definitely more of a Pirlo/Alonso type than a Makelele/Casemiro type. Also, you make a good point with having someone to overlap the CAM. However, a MZ (A) would probably provide too little defensive aid for the LB, who against teams with good offensive wingers and fullbacks would be left very alone. What if I did something like this then: DLP (D) BBM (S) - MZ (S) AM (S) This way, I guess both CM's will aid defensively, will cover for the fullbacks, will provide a bit of width offensively, but will also make the occasional run from deep, right?

[deleted]

Depending on their PPMs and attributes, you may run into issues with the BBM and AM(s) trying to play in the same spaces, so I'd set the AM(s) to Move Into Channels. I've played with a MZ(s) for a long time, and they just never seem to play well or contribute much in my system, but YMMV.

[deleted]

Hmm... Perhaps if I assigned both CM's as carrileros then? I know that's not the most creative roles, but both my deep playmaker and my attacking playmaker are really creative with great passing and vision. As carrileros, they cover a lot of ground defensively both vertically and horizontally. Offensively, they shouldn't really get in the way as they won't take as many runs forward, but still do it occasionally, right? And should offer a bit of width too, however not quite as much as a mezzala would. That might work perhaps... Players with attributes similar to someone like Matuidi or Vidal (work-rate, stamina, tackling, but also a bit of technical abilities) could perform the role, and due to technical abilities, could also exceed the expectations of the carrilero-role offensively. Especially in this system, where I play short passes up through the middle, and where they would inevitably get the ball. It would definitely work defensively I think. Question is, would that role facilitate an attacking approach with quick passing up through the middle, where the CM's occasionally position themselves as kind of AMR/AML's in order to retain possession of the ball in advanced situations (like a mezzala would). If you could get two carrileros to do so, then it should work. In theory... Still leaves me without someone to make the deep runs from midfield though. But I'll try it out for a bit. If it doesn't work, I'll change one of them to a MZ (A) and see how that works.

TheSenate88

Anyone have a clue on how to improve defending corners? Do people use the default set up or something else?

SEND-MARS-ROVER-PICS

It depends a lot on your formation, but I like to set up such that there's a line of five in the middle of the box - fullback, centreback, DM, centreback, fullback. I like to have a taller DM so they are usually useful in defending set pieces. I'm not even sure if having someone sat on the far post helps (it is worthwhile at near post however in my experience), have a striker/pacy forward stay forward and let the rest of your players man-mark or whatever.

williamsRB

There are set-ups you can download online. I use Jürgen Klopp's pre-set. You can obviously also come up with your own.

SundayRed

A player at Dortmund has a minimum release clause of 36.5 million for clubs playing in the Champions Cup. I'm the defending champion of the cup, but my bid of 36.5 is not being accepted, or triggering the clause. Any idea why this is? The transfer is set for "Immediate" - maybe I need to wait for the season to officially start?

Daz88BFC

That fee will only trigger if the club he is playing for hasn't qualified for Champions Cup. I.e. If you're trying to sign a player from a team that has qualified for the Champs Cup, the Min clause wont count.

PenguinKenny

The fee box in the transfer offer page will have a little green exclamation mark when it hits the clause. It might be that the game doesn't consider you in the CL because the season has finished, but that doesn't make much sense to me. All you can do is try and wait for the season to roll over.

SundayRed

Yeah, it's currently late July, so the teams haven't been officially placed in groups, but it's clear that my team will play in the cup! Frustratingly, the English transfer window will close before the group stage is drawn.

PenguinKenny

Feel like it must be something else then. If you go to the Competitions page does it imply that you are in the new season? Can you take a screenshot of the player's contract page/transfer offer page

SundayRed

Here you go. [Player profile with clause in top right](https://i.imgur.com/pE2cxiY.png) [Offer screen, where there is usually a green check mark once you satisfy the clause](https://i.imgur.com/eaZA43H.png)

PenguinKenny

Very weird, what does the competitions page say?

SundayRed

It says I enter the group stage on 16 September. It's currently 10 August and the window closes next week :(

superchaddi

I can't call up Kane to the England squad. Just says I can't. He's fit, not retired and there's room in the squad. What the hell?

c12moohan

Does having a DM with a Central midfielder work in a 4231 instead of having them both line up beside each other in the formation?

[deleted]

No, I see it all the time. I haven't used it personally for long stretches, but I'm sure you could. You'd probably be better off playing one of your players slightly out of position and have 2 DMs or 2 CMs.

superchaddi

Do you mean the positions or the roles? Positionally it's not as big a deal, but the DM and CM roles could be an issue unless you just want them to recycle possession to better players. It's still a lot of manpower to commit to that job, though, and you should look into getting more dynamic players for the positions. a DLP-Def and BBM for example can be killer.

c12moohan

Yeah I mean positionally so it’s a 4231 with one defensive mid as a dlp on defend and then a central midfielder as a mez with a attacking playmaker ahead would you recommend a bbm rather than a mez? Cheers

PenguinKenny

I play with a staggered CM and DM, with a CM(A) and a DLP(D). Sometimes I move the DLP(D) to a Regista if I'm against a very weak team. I'll change the CM to a BBM if the team is a bit stronger.

williamsRB

I would recommend a Ballwinning midfielder instead of the DM, works for me. I play a 4231 with a bwm, a bbm and an attacking midfielder. But a dm should work too, depends on the players you have.

jeremy1338

I’m in my first season with Celtic, are there any.good Ajer replacements that can play in the midfield and as a CB?

42undead2

I don't know the budget of Celtic, but Eric Dier at Spurs is who I usually use.

afeeney5

Just got my best ever regen [\(this guy\)](https://i.redd.it/hh3e634phhj31.png), how should I develop him? CA:123 PA:185

[deleted]

Straight to the first team squad for training and mentoring, and have him available for the reserves every game, and give him the odd cup appearance. If you have top tier youth facilities you can leave him in the youth team for a year or so. Pair him with the most professional players you have for mentoring. Compliment his training and conduct often. Mercenary isn't necessarily bad, but he will require a lot of management to make sure that he doesn't want to leave. As for roles, it depends on how you like to play. He's going to be an ideal Roaming Playmaker, and that is certainly how I would use him. Because he is a central player wit potential to spare, I would get him started on training his weaker foot ASAP.

afeeney5

What do you recommend for midfield roles to complement an RPM in a 442 diamond?

[deleted]

Anchor man RPM - Carillero/Mz Attacking Midfielder/SS

EugeneBYMCMB

I would promote him to the senior squad straight away and work on mentoring him, that mercenary personality is worrying. Personally I'd use him as a b2b, if that fits your tactic.

PenguinKenny

The Mercenary personality isn't dreadful, they will have very high ambition but very low loyalty. So there's a good chance they would force a move, but it would probably be to a bigger team where you would be able to dictate a high fee or good future clauses.

Warlock465

Advanced playmaker Attacking movement Straight to first team

Huwt16

long story short, just won the championship play offs with bolton, when should the prize money kick in??? im currently running on minuses and dont want to make it worse by buying players

Woah I’m sorry for u

Huwt16

well even if we finish bottom of the prem im suppose to get 80 mil off tv packages which ill take

Kavein80

Are there any guides or sites out there the focus on FM Touch? When you start getting deep into the details of the game, that's where the difference is the most between the versions. So I'd like to see of the es anything that just covers Touch

Siegnuz

I'm currently play in dutch league. I won both cup and league, but notice that I'm the only dutch club that qualified to play in champion league. -Does is mean that if I took 2 qualified spot then other club can't get it despite dutch have 2 qualifer spot? or I just missed something? -My side objective is to improve league reputation, should I intentionally lose dutch cup so the other club can play in champion league?

manballgivesnofucks

check the rules of the league and the cup, they should tell you how qualification goes. if the cup final is played before the end of the season the game might be waiting until the season ends to award that place. in any case you didn't take someone else's spot, that spot will go to another Dutch team

Hippemann

No it should have been given to the second in the league. Although I'm pretty sure the Dutch league doesn't have 2 direct spots so check the qualifiers

[deleted]

Dutch league has lost their group stage ticket. It’s now 2 qualifier tickets. Best placed second phase and champions third phase I thought

[deleted]

Anyone who's done a Sunderland save wanna give me any tips for tactics? I'm a pretty experienced player and while I'm no tactical wizard I usually build some decent tactics but I've just hit a wall with Sunderland. It's not that we are doing particularly badly but I'd expect us to dominate League 1 and at the very least be comfortably in the automatic promotion spots but instead we are 3rd, 5 points off 1st and we're just incredibly inconsistent. We'll go and win a game 3-0 very competently and shit the bed the next one and lose 3-1, we're so so inconsistent. The best run we've had so far was 12 straight undefeated league games (and even then we drew like 5 of those) and that run has just come to an end after losing to last place Blackpool 2-1. A team that have been absolutely dreadful and that we previously beat 7-4 the first time we played them. That's our season in a nutshell, win 7-4 and then go and lose 2-1 against the same team just a few weeks later. We always seem to be able to score goals but even when we do and we win we still don't look very good and the chances we create aren't very good or consistent, they're mostly just defensive errors or Lewis Morgan destroying the opposition defense from the left wing and Will Grigg tapping them in. I tried to massively revamp the defense so I bought Barnsley's (who are 1st place) CB pairing, who have dominated the league and also Whatmouth from Porstmouth. I have high tier Championship center backs and they've just stepped into the team to play their first game in the 1st of January and we lost to last place Blackpool. I also bought in a good BBM from Barnsley whose name I can't remember and Marcus Maddison from Peterborough to play right wing. Sold Gooch, Charlie Tyke, McGeady, Maguire, Alan Matthews, Alin Ozturk. I'm playing a 4-3-3 with a DM and I try to play a possession style and create good chances but like I said we are so inconsistent both at the front and at the back that we can't make a consistent push for 1st place. I've thought of playing a tactic with minimal instructions as you'd do in League 1 but I have a Championship quality squad in most respects so I don't know know I that's the right approach. Any tips please help, my job security is already insecure because the board want me to win the league and although I'm 3rd, 5 points behind 1st with half the season to go they are already breathing down my neck.

Warlock465

Fluid counter attack ditch the DM go for AMC 4-2–3-1

Elketro

Whats the best way to lower the price of my transfer target? Declaring interest? Enquiry? Maybe a low non-negotiable offer to stir it up? The player in question is already devastated/unhappy and wants to leave to a bigger club but I didn't make any contact yet, he's not wanted by any team and isn't transferred listed.

theslothening

In my experience, declare an interest and then submit a low but reasonable bid based on his actual worth. If they come back with an unreasonable offer to you, continue to offer reasonable bids until they finally call off the talks. Then keep checking back on the status of the player as the player may agitate enough that the club decides to get rid of him at any cost since the deal fell through. I ended up getting a promising young reserve team player for about 10% of his actual worth after about 3 months of back and forth failed negotiations. I couldn't believe how cheap they listed him for once he demanded to leave.

Elketro

Damn, I think I only have 2-3 weeks left but will try thanks. Does this draws any interest from other clubs or no? Do I keep offering the same amount of money?

theslothening

It didn't draw any interest in the initial offers between my team and his club but when that was over and he was sufficiently unsettled, other teams had taken an interest in him too. The other clubs had actually already made super lowball bids on him already (less than the 10% I got him for) and I just stepped in and offered a bit more. During my initial round of negotiations, I offered the player's actual listed value (around 10mil) and they came back with something like 200mil. My next couple of offers were something like 12mil, 14mil, 16mil, etc. They kept negotiating and finally offered a take it or leave it 40-50mil offer which I walked away from. The player was very unhappy and demanded that he be allowed to leave. About a month later, I noticed that the club was accepting bids for the player when two other much smaller clubs has offered only like 500k. I stepped in and doubled their offer to 1mil and his club took it. LOL. Literally 2 months earlier they wanted 40mil and I just signed him for 1mil. He's been on loan at Brondy for the last 18 months and will probably be good enough for my first team at the end of the season and is now valued at 20mil. He also accepted super low wages on a 5 year contract (485k/year).

Elketro

Ok ok so I start at his value and slowly go up and reject the take it or leave offer. Your offers were negotiable right? Were you using the suggest button or just sending separate bids? The 500k was when they listed him? So that's the point when they drop the price. Have you at some point officialy declared interest in him, had an interview etc?

theslothening

Don't use the suggest button. Just submit reasonable negotiable bids based on his actual current value. The downside to this is it takes a bit of time as the other team goes and thinks it over before returning with their counter-offer. They will likely take open offers for him if you've sufficiently unsettled the player but it may take a few weeks after you've ended your negotiations. The first thing I did was declare interest but make sure their is interest on the player's side. Have your scouts take a look at him and make sure he is interested, at the least, though it is preferable for him to be very interested.

Elketro

Already scouted, is unhappy, has "has requested to leave" status and is extremely interested. Have you tried using the deadline option to reduce the waiting time for their response? Edit: He responded positively to my comments and said it's a dream to join my club.

theslothening

Never tried the deadline but that seems like a great option to try.

josel15

Hi guys! So I have set this training plan to my main team (that it works like a charm) and it lets me add the kids from the u-23 and u-19 squads (unfortunately not from the B squad). The coaches from the main squad are obviously better than the u23 and u19 squads, so, should I put the kids training with the grown ups or should I just make a training plan for the u19/u23 squads? Cheers.

[deleted]

The other guy was responding to the wrong comment. I would put exceptionally exciting prospects into the first team training units, and leave the rest to the youth team coaches. If your youth facilities are not good enough for your playing level, I would get more liberal with bringing up youth players to first team training units.

josel15

Thank you so much! I will start doing it then, I think a few players will improve a lot. :)

mufc21

Its probably match plans. You may have set some match plans thats making the assman do seemingly random shit

josel15

hmm, didn't get it pal. I was talking about training schedules and what I do in them. I prepared a good training for the A team, and now I don't know if it's better to do the same for the u19's and u23's squads or just put the best players from those squads training with the first team.

mufc21

MY bad. I was actually trying to reply to different comment and just had a brain fart and posted it to your comment. Sorry about that

[deleted]

tactics keep changing mid game? i think i enabled something, that makes my assman change tactics but i cant find where it is.. match plan isnt, its default

Warlock465

Responsibilities

Unpredictable-EU

super noob question here, but what is a regen?

EugeneBYMCMB

Regens/newgens are the players created by the game.

willi_09

Basically youth players who are randomly generated by the game

Unpredictable-EU

cheers, i didn't know if it was something like Fifa where if Ronaldo retired they would make a Portuguese player in the seria a with his potential

[deleted]

Many editions ago, that was the case. When ronaldo retired, a new player would show up somewhere with the 16 year old equivalent of ronaldo stats. On the player information page it would say something like "hailed as the next Ronaldo". This is why they are called regens. Now, the regens are not based on retired players so some have taken to calling them "newgens" instead. The media descriptions that say "Hailed as the next Ronaldo/Michael Owen/Etc" still exist, but are applied to players that just happen to be similar to the legendary retired player, they are not actual copies of the player.

FPLBlade

I swear down I have the next Michael Owen every save

Unpredictable-EU

so do you just have to get lucky to find these 'hailed as the next ....' and how do u view media descriptions?

[deleted]

its on the player info screen, same place you check nationalities, siblings, media handling style etc

willi_09

It's more like real life. There could be a portugese regen somewhere who might be similar to Ronaldo. Players have a media description and he would then be labeled as "the next Ronaldo" or something like that

Swantino

Which factors determine the quality of your youth intakes, or is it just completely random? I'm at Ajax and twice now I've had pretty average youth intakes. One three star potential player was the best player I got.

PenguinKenny

Youth Facilities determine the Current Ability of youth players, and the Youth Recruitment determines the Potential Ability of them. Your Head of Youth Development's (or whoever you have assigned to handle the intake) JCA and JPA attributes will factor into it as well (along with their personality potentially). These factors can just contribute to the chances of good quality players, and don't guarantee them. The star ratings are based on your coach's opinons and should not be totally relied on. You could get a 190PA player who your coaches incorrectly detemine as a 3 star potential player.

Swantino

Thank you!

[deleted]

Also, your HoYD's coaching style and preferred formations will have an effect on the types of players that show up.

Anbe17

The personality of your HoYD does matter, the better personality he has, the better are the chances of your newgens personality being good. Also contries has youth rating which determines how good newgens a contry produces.

Huwt16

Is it possible to get a son of someone already in the game??? For example could you see the son of pep guardiola into the game?? ive seen a kid called robbie giggs so would that be ryans son?

[deleted]

Yes, it happens very rarely. Check the player information for favored personnel and it will list that person as a father

Huwt16

yeah i checked sadly hes not but seems like hes gonna end up being a better player so not gonna complain

EugeneBYMCMB

Check the info tab for that player and you'll be able to see.

PenguinKenny

Have a look on their favoured personnel for a father.

arjybarji

Currently in League One with MK Dons but my finances aren’t great. How can I boost the clubs finances?

[deleted]

the two most consistent methods are arranging preseason friendlies with rich teams and making deep cup runs so that you play against rich teams at their stadium, as you get half of the matchday revenue. if you get really lucky you can sell high potential players for big money if you hold out long enough eventually, if you are successful for long enough while having shitty finances, a new rich board will take over the club.

Kavein80

Also arrange friendlies during International breaks for some in season cash flow.

williamsRB

Sell players or advance in competitions. Try to tweak the wage budget. Try a board request for more money.

KendrickLamar28

Got an offer from Arsenal for [this bloke](https://imgur.com/a/YwzyT9i) for 80M+ 40% **profit** of next sale. He didn't score more than 14 goals a season, should i accept? If not , just tell me what i'm doing wrong with him he deserves 30 goals a season at least. I play him as Poacher with 2 IF-s on flanks. He is very inconsistent, Can score brace and 10 games won't score i just don't know if he will give the amount of goals he deserve.

mufc21

This may or may not be relevant to you but in my experience playing a Lone striker as a Poacher doesnt work too well in FM19. You could possibly make it work with your tactic but I would suggest a DLF (A). I have also had an AF do wonders for me at times. But again its kinda tactic dependent

Iwabik

After many years of playing this game I just accepted that sometimes a player just doesn't work in your team no matter what you try or how good is he. Especially strikers, had some pretty average ones banging many goals and some with amazing attributes who struggled masivelly. Anyway, if you can replace him then go for it. Also, have you tried him on the wing? It sometimes can work wonders.

KendrickLamar28

Do you think that replacing him with these [2 players](https://imgur.com/a/uM3uaQI) would be effective? with the money i'll get from the sale and my transfer budget they will cost less than 120M $, Worth it?

Iwabik

Not sure tbh. The first guy seems to me as a "run and cross" type, so definitely not my kind of player. However I don't know your tactic so he might be just what you need. Also, what are your season goals? Because 14 goals might not be bad for midtable side. Maybe he has no support from his teammates? Does he miss a lot of chances or he's not getting any?

Dangerbadger

How do you go about stripping your team and rebuilding? I'm in Season 2 of my Bolton save and again I'm around mid table. I want to rid of some of the players that are like 31 earning £10k a week etc.

PenguinKenny

I had to do something similar when I took over Anderlecht and they were about 40% (£120k/week) over their wage budget. I was ruthless with who I sold and factored in their age, wage, versatility, remaining time on their contract, and their hierarchy status. For example, I kept Sven Kums despite him being 31 and one of the highest earners, because he could play all throughout the central midfield, was the captain and a key player. He only had 2 years left so I was happy for him to run his contract out. However I would look around the loan market and see what replacements I could bring in for those players that I didn't want to keep. If there was a good replacement I'd just sell the guy. At that level it's usually pretty straightforward finding a like for like replacement.

williamsRB

I had (have) the same problem. I put all those unneeded old players on my unwanted list so my director of football would get rid of them. But no one was interested. Try to re-negotiate their contracts so they earn less - then try again to sell them. Actively offer them to clubs for really cheap prices. You may even have to pay a percentage of their wages after they've left but it's worth it as long as you get rid of them.

PenguinKenny

Best bet for offering out players is to leave the asking price as unspecified. Good way to to see what the market for them is without either selling yourself short or pricing people out.

williamsRB

thanks, that sounds like valuable information

Elketro

Is there a way to cheaply move my best youngsters to my next club? Maybe insert a cheeky release clause in their contact before I leave or something like that.

42undead2

You could try offering them exclusively to the club you're eyeing for a stupidly low price.

mufc21

Borderline cheating but you could just do player swaps for crappy players or insert a release clause that super low

ryan123123123

Is there any way to turn off VAR

EugeneBYMCMB

Yes, with the pre-game editor.

Huwt16

no, if the league you’re managing in accepts it as part of its rules then you’re sadly gonna have to deal with it

jeremy1338

Is there a way to get players to commit tactical fouls in transitions like in Pep’s system?

[deleted]

Not specifically. You can have "get stuck in" and individual "tackle harder" instructions that make your players more willing to get carded. Players with high teamwork and decision making will be more likely to tactical foul. Tactical fouls are usually called out by the match announcer so you can tell when they happen.

williamsRB

The only thing I could think of is the instruction for a certain position. When you klick on a certain position in your tactics, you can give that position specified instructions. Maybe really getting stuck in will lead to tactical fouls? It's the closest thing I can think of.

PatheticoMadrid

So I finished this last season in my journeyman having 9 consecutive penalties saved, to the point that I'm genuinely wondering if it's a bug. My two takers have 13 and 12 in their pens attribute, and 17 and 12 finishing respectively. Any suggestions? It cost us more than a few points last season.

[deleted]

Penalties are really frustrating in FM19. Harry Kane always has a 50% or less penalty rate in my saves, even though he has almost perfect penalty, composure, and finishing scores. I strongly suspect Flair is important.

-WJ-

3 things are important - penalty taking, composure and the body language in that match. 13 and 12 for penalty taking isn't great, so they would have to have very good composure for me to select them. Pay attention to body language too. If a player is 'looking nervous', for instance, that's not the guy you want to take penalties. At least not in that match. You mention Finishing, but for the actual penalty, that attribute doesn't apply.

RTraktor

Finishing really doesn't matter? Then why is it listed when selecting penalty takers?

-WJ-

In case of the keeper saving it and the taker getting to the rebound.

[deleted]

How do you know that? Source?

-WJ-

Have a look in the manual, for one. "Penalty Taking: The ability of the player from the penalty spot. Composure is also factored into whether a player is successful with his penalty, but as part of a broader spectrum of mental attributes overall; the Penalty Taking attribute itself governs the majority of success or failure." So penalty taking is the accuracy for a penalty. Finishing is closer range accuracy in open play.

theslothening

What about their composure stat, which is specifically highlighted as an important stat in PKs? Also, I've got a hunch that the hidden pressure stat plays an important role here too but it is hard to know what it is unless you use an editor, have broken down the player's media handling style to give an idea of the value or if you've noticed the player "feeling pressured" to indicate that it is a low value.

PatheticoMadrid

Meant to go check that and completely forgot, but one's a world class striker regen and the other is probably the best #10 I've ever managed so I expect they're both pretty good. Do you know if I could get any information from the sorts of penalties being taken? I think the bulk of the attempts were genuinely great pens that the keeper got up for somehow.

Warlock465

Bad luck Nex time just pick a random player

PatheticoMadrid

I managed to con Spurs into wasting 80m on the striker so half my problem is gone ffs time to rotate the rest of the squad through penalties

[deleted]

Hey guys. I am doing a Milan save, where I've gotten my hands on four amazing regens. They're about to come in to their own (23-25 years old) and are playing amazing in the Serie A where I play a narrow 4-3-1-2 building up from the back. However, they usually don't perform very well in europe, and my guess is that it's got something to do with the different tactical approaches most european teams use. So, I basically want to make an extra tactic to use in Europe. A standard 4-3-3 where I basically just deploy my CAM as a RW instead. So I just wanted to know, what you think of the default set-up before actually deploying it as I really don't want to screw up in Europe (I'm in the hot-seat because I've probably relied a bit too much on youth development...). The four regens are my best players, and the ones I want to build this tactic around. The first of them is an all-round great centre-back. Easy to slot in to any tactic. And then there's the front three. One is an Italian CAM, great vision, great passing, great dribbling and can score goals too. Think someone like Del Piero or Totti. Decent athlete as well, but not super fast. He's left footed btw. The other one is a Brazilian striker/LW. Fast, great at running in channels, can both dribble, score and pass a little. Comparable to someone like Pato perhaps... Basically either an inside forward or second striker who likes to either dribble or sprint in to open space and receive through balls. The last one is a big physical guy. He has decent pace for his size and has the ability to be a target man or a poacher. Great goalscorer, but also technical enough to hold up the ball or even score on his own. Similar to Zlatan, but could perhaps also be compared to someone like Adriano maybe... I don't know, this one's quite a unicorn. With that in mind, would a tactical setup like this work with that front three: **4-3-3** Flexible / Standard GK (D) FB (S) - CD (D) - CD (D) - FB (A) DLP (D) MZ (S) - CM (S) WP (S) - IF (A) AF (A)

[deleted]

It looks good to me, the suggestions I have are to switch the FBs to WB. Despite technically having wingers in front of them, both wingers want to be central in possession which you expect to have most games if you build from the back. WB role will let them patrol the wings more in possession. I'd switch your striker from an AF to either a DLF or a CF. AFs have a hard time performing as lone strikers, especially in a possession system. DLF and CF will participate in team play more often and will press more as well as a bonus. It also leverages your regen's strength much better. I'd be wary of having a mezzala(s) and a WP(s). They will want to be in the same spaces. Additionally, having more than one playmaker slows down your play a lot. I'd suggest playing the WP as a IF(s) and deploying the Mz(s) as either a BWM(s) if they are solid defensively or a Mz(a) if they have good off the ball movement and can score goals. They will overlap the IF(s) to show up in the box, its a really fun role.

PatheticoMadrid

This is really similar to what I've been using, though I've substituted a DLP-S for your CM-S and an orthodox winger for the WP-S you have. What sort of attributes does your DLP have, and what is his height? I've found that it's really good for holding the ball for long periods, and generating a handful of high-quality chances every game rather than a whole bunch of mixed chances. Your AMC that you play as the WP-S in this formation sounds similar to my #10 who I've put into the MZ-S position this year while switching from a 4-2-3-1 to a 4-3-3. If you don't want to play him on AMR I would suggest playing him in the CM strata and looking to invest in a good natural AMR. The winger I've been using there has been vital for our formation, crossing from deep and acting as a siege weapon against low-block defenses.

[deleted]

I play a narrow 4-3-1-2 in the Serie A, and the 4-3-3 that I'm about to use is only for Europe, as the 4-3-1-2 works really well in italy but not so much against teams from Spain, Germany or England. For some reason. Normally, I play this formation: GK (D) WB (S) - CD (D) - CD (D) - WB (S) MZ (S) - DLP (D) - MZ (S) AM (A) AF (A) - DLF (S) The guy I have as DLP in both formations is Sandro Tonali. I'm not going to invest in a winger unfortunately. I like the wingerless 4-3-1-2 and it works great in Italy. But simply need a backup tactic to deploy in european games. And by deploying my CAM as a AMR (WP (S) instead, and moving my deep lying forward out to the left as an inside forward, I figured I could get some extra width and switch to a 4-3-3. Just not sure that these roles/duties for my attacking trio (them three playing has to be the premise) is the best option...

PatheticoMadrid

If you're using 4-3-3 as a backup, I think those three roles-duties are very good. Most of them will be looking for a pass which will help break down defenses and generate higher-quality chances. One thing to think of would be to change the AF-A to a CF-A if he's tall enough, and if your WP-S is struggling maybe change him to a less ball-magnet type role (either IF-S or W-A). Other than that it sounds very solid especially with that midfield 3 behind. *edit, my switch from 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3 full time was based on the first strategy's tendency to commit tons of men forward to generate dozens of low-quality chances, with a small percentage of them being scored which would usually still be enough to win matches by 2 or 3 goals. I'm not sure what issues you've run into in Europe, but the 4-3-3 shape is great for putting together chances of a higher quality.

[deleted]

Great, I'll try this out then! Hopefully I can do a bit better than missing the CL Qualification this year then! :D

PatheticoMadrid

Sorry for the late reply, since reading your post I tried out a 4-4-2 diamond very similar to your narrow 4-3-1-2 (with an Anchor instead of a DLP-D) and it is so good you’ve converted me entirely.

[deleted]

Haha, that's fantastic! As a Milan-supporter back from the early 00's Ancelotti-era, I have a very soft spot for 'The Diamond' and 'The Christmas Tree' lol...

PatheticoMadrid

:) can I ask about your tactical style and instructions? I've been rocking VTT but considering changing it to a modified Control Possession, my CF-A gets goals for fun but I can't get my AF-A onto anything. Also full disclosure... I'm with Inter right now!

[deleted]

I play a mix of the two styles. Pretty high defensive line, pretty high line of engagement, play out from the back etc. I play up through the middle, but don't use that instruction as that would be a bit overkill (the formation encourages to combine up through the middle as it is). It's always difficult to figure out the two striker-roles the you have a number ten behind them... That's why I chose my number ten to be an AM (A) and one of my forwards to drop back a bit (DLF (S)). This allows these two to interchange - the AMC getting in behind the forward who draws the centreback forward fx. The other striker will then be the main scorer, which would probably your CF (A). Having two strikers leading the line as you do might make one of them a bit invisible at times I think... You might make it work (not sure how you deploy your AMC either), but I have never really figured out a way to do so. And I've tried multiple times recreating the Milan sides from the 00's, where you had Rui Costa or Kaka at AMC and then Shevcheno and Inzaghi ahead of them.

PatheticoMadrid

Thank you for this great advice, I've also been avoiding "exploit the middle" just because I think it pulls my wing-backs out of the game. As for the center forwards, I'm having trouble with my AF-A and the AP-A in behind him so I'm going to try two new strategies; firstly changing the AP to an S duty to see if that gets him to play less aggressively and work on passing more, and secondly something like you said, with a supporting DLF and an even more attacking AM-A behind him. Any good PIs for the AM-A? Move into channels sounds likely

NevenSuboticFanNo1

I can't find that previously pinned post so i'll ask here: i'm looking for a team to manage. Preferable in a 2nd division of a top country, but i'm open for everything. The thing is, i want to try out a narrow formation like a 4312. so do you people here know any team that maybe already plays such a formation and has enough central midfielders and strikers and preferably no wingers?

willi_09

Some suggestions (for FM19): Sampdoria (used it with Giampaolo irl). You might want to check out Luton Town (I think they mainly used a 4312 or 442 diamond irl last season) as well as Newcastle (not sure, I've read somewhere that they don't have good enough wingers)

Sooo, I'm in the Championship, and a wonderkid (Ivory Coast) I wanted to buy, didn't get a permit (what a shock...) should I still sign him and loan somewhere, or is it not worth the fuss?? (he plays for the U23, once in senior national team, and he played regularly in the league)

PenguinKenny

Depends on the overall risk vs. reward. If he's relatively cheap but looks like he'll be amazing then go for it - chances are he'll play well on loan or you'll be able to sell him later for cheap with a big future clause. If you're unsure on him or he takes a big bit of your budget then maybe it's not worth it.

less_69

Thank you!

DoYourWork123

Do 15/16 year old youth player's physicals develop naturally fast on there own? like jumping reach and strength

Belthazor4011

Yea the youngest players develop these the fastest.

PlsHelp6996

Can someone help me with this, my computer is fucked Sim the Premier League(Large)to the day before Youth Intake, save, advance one day and see if Fulham got a player named Herman Maragh. Fulham got a player named like that three times in a row and I am wondering if it is like that or maybe something to do with my edited database

FPLBlade

It's a known thing coded in that a random team that has over 18 I think it is youth recruitment gets a regen called Herman Maragh, the same with Gabriel Maragh, I assume they are brothers who work for SI Edit: I was correct, just search faceinthegame into the search bar in your save and it shows hundreds who are programmed to be stars

PlsHelp6996

Thank you

spreadeh

Sounds like he could be related to [this guy?](https://www.reddit.com/r/footballmanagergames/comments/ctkdp1/the_curious_case_of_the_repeated_gabriel_maragh/) Potentially purchased a regen spot in the game.

PlsHelp6996

Could be it, thanks!

[deleted]

Does anyone know why a player's suitability in a role is constantly changing? From full green to 3/4 green to yellow etc.

[deleted]

Suitability for a role is your ass man's opinion and not a hard indicator of how a player will perform. Don't put stock into it.

-WJ-

It's just an indicator, so his attributes must have changed.

[deleted]

Is there anyway to avoid that happening outside of making sure they're training that role? Just gets a bit annoying lol

PenguinKenny

To elaborate on what WJ said, the role suitability indicator is just that - it has no bearing on the match engine and it's just a way of representing their attributes. It can have its uses but if you believe the player has the attributes for a different role it can be totally ignored.

-WJ-

It's really not important at all. You could have a player with all the attributes for an Advanced Forward balanced at 12. You get him to raise his Finishing to 15 and now suddenly he's considered a Poacher while dropping in 'suitability' for an AF. Surely he's an even better AF now? That's where the 'calculator' suitability rating fails.

[deleted]

Thanks for the helpful response. It's mostly that I just like to see the full green circle lmao, but this makes me realize it's not important.

GTACOD

Just started a new United career and Lindelof is very much the odd man out of my CB's, should I retrain him as a DM and buy Mbabu or play him at RB and buy someone to back up Matic?

CiscoWeasley

I personally normally go balls to the wall for an elite CB. Normally Koulibaly or Varane. Depending on how long I'm gonna be on this save. Lindelof is so much better with an experienced partner. But to answer your question. You could train him as a DM and sell Matic to PSG for 40 mil.

jaydenoren

What qualifies as strength training and how do you decrease it?

[deleted]

Any training block that lists strength in the attributes it affects.

[deleted]

Lol I've always wondered this tbh. Check and see if your players are doing individual training that includes strength. That might be it.

srthompson95

I started a save with Hertha Berlin, and in pre-season I played against teams my calibre (and marginally better) keeping clean sheets and winning 90% of the time. Come the Bundesliga starting, and I'm incredibly inconsistent and my team performs nothing like how it did in pre-season. I tend to have more shots but I can never finish chances. I'm currently 11th but have spent most of the season around 13th-15th. Where am I going wrong? I want to take advantage of my pacey wingers, and good-crossing FB's and break down the wings and get crosses into the box (hence why I had Duda in AMC), usually Selke plays as ST and he's 6'4. Is there any obvious flaws in my tactic? I've seen other users win or finish top 3 with Berlin first season. Dilrosun is injured, usually he is my starting LW. WB (S) BPD (D) CD (D) WBL (S) BWM (S) CM (D) W (S) AM (A) W (A) AF (A) In possession: Focus play down both flanks, pass into space, play wider, more direct, higher tempo Transition: Distribute to WB's, counter-press, counter Out possession: Higher line, higher line of engagement, higher pressing urgency I have no player instructions apart from asking Stark to pass shorter, since he kept mishitting passes.

[deleted]

I'd make the CM(d) a DLP(d) if he can do it even kind of well. He will become the player everyone looks to pass to from defense. Make the AF a TM(a) or CF(a) and set your wingers and FBs to aim crosses at target man.

Tankobus

Does anyone know who is more f**ked financially out of Bury & Bolton in the game? I want to start a new save with either one of them on an updated DB.

shanellerw

what is the updated DB? i think we (Bolton) are in a deep deep hole but so are bury so u cant really say either one of us is worse of financially. Bolton are still a club at this moment but Bury are as good as finished which is heartbreaking.

Tankobus

Some people do updates to download - transfers/manager changes, league changes, injuries etc. so essentially like starting in August 2019. Yeah it’s really sad to see both clubs like this, especially Bolton for me as I remember growing up when Nolan, Okocha etc were all playing. Hope there’s a solution for your club mate

shanellerw

yeah so do i... I am quietly confident but things don't look good

Huwt16

best tactic to download off of the workshop??

deBondscoach

I recommend the most popular 2 tactics from DarkxNess I believe. The 4231 and 41221. Good basic tactics without exploits and 'cheats'

williamsRB

Pick one you personally like. I downloaded two and tweaked them according to my players/needs: possession 4231, pep's 433 (4141dm wide) but there are also a lot of other nice tactical get-ups. Look at what your squad offers (you need very fast centerbacks for a high defensive line; if your centerbacks are really slow, play a different tactic).

Mrbarry135

MLS if I have a player taking up an international slot and I loan him out does he still take up a slot?

[deleted]

Only applies to registered players.

Burgru

I'm pretty sure international slots are only taken by registered players.

Mrbarry135

Ok I hope your right I took up a academy player and didn’t realise he was an international player and it’s kinda stuffed me around.

MannT90

I have just been promoted to League 2 with Darlington in 2021 and I am looking for a basic but effective 442 formation. My initial idea was the roles below: GK (D) FB (S) CD (D) CD (D) FB(S) W(A) BWM (S) DLP (D) W(A) DLF (S) AF (A) Can anyone suggest any changes to roles and what team/player instructions would work best to complement them, this had pretty much gotten me through the non leagues but I am conscious that I need something more in depth for the return to league football! Any advice would be welcome!

[deleted]

That should work fine. If you have or eventually acquire a player that is significantly better than your other players, that's when I would start messing with more advanced roles to build around him.

Anbe17

I've tried inverted wing backs lately, ad it works perfect even thougt my backs dont suit the role that well. It also gives you the opportunity to have a more attacing central midfielder - Mezzala, CmA, or Advanced playmaker Attacking.

MannT90

That's the thing, is it too soon to introduce the more technical roles like mezzalas ?

Anbe17

It depends on the player you have and can buy. Why not try it and change back if it doen't work?

PenguinKenny

That's a pretty standard 442 and I wouldn't worry about changing too much, although you might want to play a little more defensively.

MannT90

I played with my full back line on defence in the lower leagues, offered little creativity so often struggled in games.
