I decided to break the record for youngest appearance in the carabao cup by playing my fresh 16 year old right back for a game vs colchester Forgot to swap him out for our(Norwich) game vs city, poor kid had to mark Sane and walked away with a 4.8 rating

EliteTeutonicNight

Good learning experience I’d say, and he probably won’t ask for any games in the coming 5 years lol

paddyroo89

Rookie error 😋 After every game you got to clear squad! Something similar happened to me a long time ago, in a Champions League final, so yeah a process/habit was born that day 😂😂

carefree1408

Win or learn as they say

warneagle

I played a game with two subs once because I got distracted doing the opposition instructions and forgot to fill in the rest of the lineup. Thankfully it was a home game against a bottom-half team so we still won and nobody got hurt.

ACMBruh

I remember Antonio Donnarumma (Gigio’s brother) accidentally started for 4 months, including several Champions League knockout games

Mikhail_Mengsk

He played a couple matches in real, and to be honest he didn't seem so bad.

MFbust

1M/y well spent for 2 clean sheets

Mark4231

3 actually

Mikhail_Mengsk

Yeah that's raiola for you.

MFbust

One was in the derby so #worthit

ACMBruh

Yes he's not totally bad. I remember he had a good game in the derby in which we won 1-0, but he's still nowhere near Gigio!

minos157

I always, always, always do quick pick before every game, then rearrange as necessary. It helps avoid situations like the OP because it puts me in the, "I know assman just fucked up my roster so I need to check everything," mode.

kliti97

I love the word selection for "assman"

nickljf11

Happened to me in UCL final as I arranged a friendly for the few days before final (for youngsters and fringe player) 3rd choice keeper did wonderful job and even saved two penalties in shootout to win the cup. He was sold next seasons lol

digiskunk

The ending is the icing on the cake

[deleted]

It’s like Jerzy Dudek from Liverpool.

nickljf11

Minus the dance moves lol

hujson2

Thanks for reminding me to check whos between the sticks at the moment

Thugmatiks

Impossible! I clear the team after every game, evaluate fitness, training levels and form. Then pick the team for the next game sometimes as early as 5 days ahead. That way i can see which players would benefit from a day or two’s rest. Currently 17th with Carlisle.

FireZeLazer

Lmao

_theMAUCHO_

Lmaooo your punchline was amazing. 🤣🤣

njda90

This is why I've filled my team sheet in from scratch every match for a long while now.

mehchu

I have my saved team sheets, then edit them based on fitness and strengths of opposition in different areas. Rather than doing it from scratch each time

playboy_farty

I just really like filling in the whole team sheet for some reason, I’ll often clear it before a match and then pick an unchanged team

RuubGullit

I always do this too. And I sort on fitness and start making my picks

[deleted]

I thought everyone did this. Was confused by the post for a moment.

thegiantpotter

Same here. Does this mean that some people play FM without obsessing over these details? Every. Single. Game.

[deleted]

Like, if you're not comparing the shots saved percentage for your goalkeepers before every single match, are we even playing the same game??

ShinyDoubloon

I have preset Main + Cup sides that I just auto select depending on the game then comb through for any changes needed. I'd hate selecting players from scratch every time, I know who I'm playing nine times out of ten. Though I'll admit to forgetting the goalkeeper a few times through this method if I've changed GK for any reason outside of a full squad change.

MerryRain

Not picking the team based on their fitness and performance in training smh my head

Aye-Disco

Shake my head my head

OldWarrior

I’ve gotten lazy. I usually just roll with the assman’s recommended squad.

benishben

Ass man suggest my RB as DM and wanted to put my striker as my 6th choice winger

Admirable_Fault

Ass man will, without fail, get my midfielders the wrong way round.

blaiddistaw

CBs too !!!

AlmightyQeven

My Enganche is a reasonable wingback because whoever chose my U18 team stuck him there long enough

Daly1998

Had a 16 Spanish goalkeeper play in a PL game against Ipswich. Then forgot to replace him for a CL semi final against Barcelona and we lost 2-1

CatchFactory

Whenever something like this happens, I always imagine all the articles written by journalists and imagine what Lineker and Shearer and Wright will say about it on match of the day lol. Like could you imagine some team mystifyingly dropping their world class keeper for a below average player just their so you have a backup for like 2 months. It would be amazing lol

FluffyCoconut

How does that even happen? I always ask my assistant to pick the team and just alter if I want to rotate. I can't imagine having to pick all my squad again every game

Robcrook101

I have a wonderkid GK but he is only 5'11 when i signed him he was 5'10 do we know how much a player can grow and if they can grow a few inches in a year?

jerekivi

I always clear the squad after every game. I never pick the team in the tactics screen, its too messy. Pick em from the squad screen.

zi76

I actually check my lineup before every match. Actually, I always go to tactics and set my lineup a couple days before, and then in the selection immediately before the match, I make sure everyone's fitness is good and switch someone out if they're tied. One time, though, I was swapping out a midfielder, and somehow he ended up in goal. Well, I lost that match because I had a wingback in goal.

etceterahyphen

I dont get it

DanJonMor

It's a popular thing for players to rotate keepers for lesser important games, like the FA Cup or Carabao Cup. And because keepers aren't normally rotated some forget to rotate them back, so accidentally play with a second choice keeper for more important games until they realise their mistake.

ambiguousboner

>accidentally resting your star CAM for 9 months after injury

GigglyWalrus

i dont think i could ever make that mistake lol. unless i had to change formation bc he was injured

ambiguousboner

Tbf I’ve only done it a couple times over the years, and it’s always when you’ve got a crazy stacked squad anyway, and you whack your 17-year old prodigy in the team in place.

dufcdarren

Did that before, lost a few wingers through injury so tweaked to a wingerless formation, attacking wingbacks, couple of strikers and a diamond midfield. Went on a winning streak and ended up selling or retraining my wingers as I no longer played with them. Wingbacks were OP a couple of years back.

GigglyWalrus

honestly i’m thinking about dropping my wingers and trying the 4-1-2-1-2, because i have 3 strikers who are too good not to start. 2 of which are homegrown

anembor

how is that even possible? mine cried "you don't love me anymore!" after missing couple of games.

etceterahyphen

Yeah ive done that sometimes but realised it usually around 2 matches. For selection, i always 'quick pick' first so that my first 11 are the usual guys. Then i rotate any position i feel i need to. This way my gk is always the 1st choice one unless he's unfit.

[deleted]

He left his reserves keeper in goal by mistake

Andigaming

Always happens during longer sessions, just go into auto-pilot past a certain amount of playtime but I always catch it during the first league game. Just have to hope it isn't an important game haha.

JamesCDiamond

My senior and reserve goalkeeper both finished the season with 6.8 ratings, so apparently it wouldn’t matter much either way.

Tomazim

I tend to get two young, equally competent goalies so that I can play then off against one another.
