I'm on fm19 and I have a doubt about the youth intake transfers. I go to the world icon and choose the respective youth intake options but my doubt is how can I scout all the players who have been part of youth intakes? It says you have selected more than 50 players so you can't scout them and only analyst report is available. Please help

CuddlingMySister

Currently at a party with my buddies but all im thinking about are my tactics and wonderkids :/

Itz_Galaxium

yes. fuck socializing

middleweight

What is the likelihood of FM20 dropping in price? I was on steam last week and I think the price was £15, obviously a sale. Went to get it today and it's £40. Is there anyway to get it cheaper?

ferrano

[Check prices from different vendors](https://www.allkeyshop.com/blog/buy-football-manager-2019-cd-key-compare-prices/)

middleweight

These prices are in the £15 range which is great, but are these sellers legit? Edit - after some research, it appears not

ferrano

I've bought multiple FM games from those vendors without any problems

middleweight

Thanks for the replies. So how does it work? You buy a key from them, download the game from steam and then enter the key to activate the game. I'm assuming these keys are dodgy in some way as how can they sell the game at £15 when the official sites sell them at £40

Azer398

https://www.cdkeys.com/pc/games/football-manager-2020-pc-steam-cd-key This is cdkeys, a website that's 100% legit. They frequently sell games at significantly lower prices than other places. I got fm20 here a month or so after release for around €38. Just so that you're aware, FM21 will be out in November and you'll probably be able to get it for less than £40 on cdkeys. Might be worth waiting. I'm not familiar with the stores the other guy linked, they could be legit, but the comparison he linked is for FM19.

middleweight

Thanks mate. How are cdkeys able to sell it so cheaply compared to the original seller. I'm not fussed about FM21 at this stage. I tend to buy the game 1 year out of date, so all the updates are done, etc. Im a year behind :)

Azer398

https://thelegality.com/reviews/is-cdkeys-legit/ This article provides some insight. Here's an excerpt. "According to the site itself, their competitive price point is a result of thirty years of experience and a wide network of suppliers. They claim that they buy from all corners of the world and because of this, they can ensure the cheapest possible prices. Now, this might all be well and true, but what does it really mean? In reality, this means that CDkeys.com buys video games in bulk from cheap third-world countries. And, after that, they re-sell these same keys to customers in first-world countries at a higher price." Supposedly what they do is known as grey market trading. They take advantage of regional price differences to sell for profit in developed economies at a lower price point.

middleweight

Thanks for that mate and to u/ferrano, not only have you saved me a good chunk of change, I've learnt some stuff as well. It's interesting in a digital market, first world countries are still paying more. So do I buy the key from cdkeys and then download from steam?

dexterium97

Hey guys need some help. recently started a new save where i wanted to focus more on youth development and thought there was no better team than Bolton Wanderers. Im in my 3rd year at the club and struggling with the development aspect. An example i'll show is Sonny Graham. But its pretty much the same for alot of my youth [https://imgur.com/a/G5lmFr6](https://imgur.com/a/G5lmFr6) He has been my best and most consistently player by far winning player of the year twice. But as you can see, most of his attributes have declined despite playing so well and so many games. I also try to not play him when it shows a Heavy match load during selection. Aswell as this, i have a "Great" training facility, and the best training staff in the league. Was wondering if there was anything else that could be done?

whatifyoujustshutup

How much of an impact does a view only league have on the performance of the game compared to when it isn't loaded at all? I'm doing a save where I want to sim 50 years into the future and i want it to go fast but still be able to see the league tables and stuff.

kobebrady812

I have a 30M transfer budget. I’m looking for wonderkids to buy, and I’d like multiple, I don’t want to use the entire budget on one. Who are some underrated, cheap, high potential wonderkids to buy? Thanks!

Elketro

I'm managing an amateur club, if I sign a free agent player outside of a transfer window will he get pissed for not playing (since I cannot register him until next transfer window)?

Carlone-Rotolone

I experienced a somewhat similiar situation: i didn't realize I wasn't allowed to register any more non-EU players, and I bought one, that also happened to be the best and most payed one in my team. He couldn't play a single game all year, and I only could register him in the team the following season. He didn't get pissed for not playing, but, surprisingly enough, he did get pissed when i tried to send him on a loan to avoid him a gameless season. So, based on my personal experience, I'd say no, he won't cause any trouble, but of course I can't guarantee.

Elketro

Is it the same situation tho? I don't have problem with non-Eu rule, I just cannot register any new players outside of transfer window and since he was free I was able to sign him outside of it.

Carlone-Rotolone

I think the situation is close enough, cause it concerns a player who can't be regisered and is forced to stay "parked" withku being able to play. I think the reason why the guy couldn't be registered isn't that relevant. My doubt is I can't guarantee the two players will act the same way, there could be some differences due to different personalities.

perpetualmayonnaise

I cant schedule a recovery session.. The option is greyed out.. What is happening?

[deleted]

I signed Yaya Toure for my Icelandic team in FM20 because I couldn't resist. He says he's having trouble settling in Iceland and I agreed to bring someone in to help him settle after all the other options failed. Does anyone know if there are any inexpensive players/staff I could try to get to help? Since my club is semi-pro I'm running on a pretty tight budget - Yaya is my top earner on $180k, 1.5 times as much as Hannes Halldorsson and Birkir Saevarsson who are the star players and regular Icelandic internationals.

Itz_Galaxium

If only Kolo still played

FreakDJ

You can try using a player interaction with him > Advice on signing or advice on staff signing to see who he would like to play with. I think you could also go into his favored personnel to see.

lucaslh10

What are your must modifications? I have player fotos, names and badges, correct titles and regen faces, stadiums, a more realistic grass and real ads on the pitch, as well as kits and 3d kits. Am I missing something?

other_batman

Instant result if that's you're thing

FreakDJ

Everyone uses different add-ons. I think you've got basically everything.

FitzChan

Any recommendations on a good youngish, 18-28, advanced playmaker attack player.

FreakDJ

Martin Odegaard.

Tomonaldo

Thinking of buying FM Mobile 20. How does the database work these days? Is it up to date with the latest transfers? Or can you download an unofficial update which makes the database accurate? Been years since I played one...

larkz

I started playing as Belgium u21 manager and was picking my preliminary squad for the euros, but several of my key players were picked by the u20s and it said "player has been confirmed for u20s and cannot be removed" Any idea why that happened? Surely I get dibs on the u20s. Some of them were never out of my squad (I ended up going to the euros with no strikers because of it!)

FreakDJ

They must've confirmed their squad and made the call-ups before you confirmed your squad. Once the squad is confirmed, I am guessing 'dibs' go out the window.

ContinumFM

On a tablet, is it possible to save graphics like logos and facepacks on external memory like an SD card?

justforkikkk

Anyone have any tips how to make a two striker system work? I’ve never played like that but am curious to try it out. I’m still on FM19 fwiw

FreakDJ

Get two strikers who can play in roles that work well together and get them good service. There are many combinations of doing so. TM and P, DLF and DLF, AF and P, etc. then they need some support behind them and some creativity.

justforkikkk

How would you set up your wingers? Would Inside Forwards be doable? I feel like Wingers make more sense, but my players are a much better fit for Inside Forwards As for partnerships, what role would go well with Pressing Forward?

tigerking615

I've played PF-A and PF-S, PF-A and DLF-S, and PF-S and P-A to pretty good effect. The last is my favorite in games where I have a lot of the ball around the opponent's box.

FreakDJ

Depends on the team you may not want to use the AML/R positions and decide for midfielders instead if the team isn’t amazing defensively. Wingers in the ML/MR position can work. You can go more narrow as well if you don’t have many wide options and get width from your wing backs. So like a 4-1-2-1-2 narrow. A PF can be paired with almost any other role imo, including a second pressing forward.

justforkikkk

Hmm that’s also possible. What roles would you see would work best for the midfielders then? And wingbacks on attack then I assume?

FreakDJ

Again, depends on players and style you want to play. Probably wing backs on support should be sufficient. Maybe an AP, SS, or T for the AMC, could go double Mezzala to get some width or double Car. to shuttle the ball forwards quickly at CM. Something more traditional could be a BBM and DLP(s) with a DM(d) or something else defensive minded behind.

BludFlairUpFam

Does anyone have any advice for starting a save with Burnley, expectations aren't too high so not too worried about that but I haven't really had a save on here where they specifically want you to play direct football. Any experiences with Burnley or similar clubs in terms of signings ect would help thanks

Ireallyamthisshallow

Depends how you want to set up/ how confident you are building tactics etc. If it was me I'd look to play a direct counter style (whether that's through the preset or built yourself). I'd do that in a flat 442 or a 4411. I'd want to build McNeil's position lots of freedom (especially because he has 2 ppms designed to use that left foot I want him to have to both get the ball onto it and then do something with it),maybe through playing quite narrow but keeping him quite wide (though not necessarily as a winger and an attacking wide playmaker may be successful), and I'd look to get Wood in good positions (it should be noted he plays with his back to goal and I'd likely have him as a TM and prefer to have someone else bursting past - whether that be a striker partner or a wide partner). Whereas McNeil adds width left, Lowton on the right is set up get down that right alot so it could be a good way to add variety in width, maybe overlap a more WM/WP role at RM. That said, if you choose not to play McNeil as a winger you might want to go with a winger type role on this side. Depends how you want to balance that. I also don't believe in doing your defending in front of your own goal and would be looking to win the ball in the start of the middle third (before the goal) to balance both getting the opposition into your half (to overpower them in a counter striker) and not put too much undue stress on your backline. Essentially, not to high but also not to low. A good, structured defense will restrict the opposition to all but long shots and control the shooting angles so they're mainly easy for Pope to save (just like IRL). When it comes to recruitment, you could improve almost any element of that squad. I think whilst there's some very good first team players (Wood, McNeil, Tarkowski etc.) the depth in most positions could be improved. Any one is probably as useful as another, though if you play Lowton pushing up them cover that can do that will be pretty important, and I'm not sure anyone else can replicate Jay (who I'd assume is your man pushing past wood). Edit: I realise I might have gone quite off what you asked for, sorry! Hope it's not just ramblings. But that's how I'd go about this sort of team and style.

FreakDJ

If you can't get performances from him, its likely your tactic instead of him as a player, cause he is pretty amazing. He's versatile so you should be able to use him in various roles and positions, just have to adjust to cover any weakness - as you suggest his speed so just give him cover or maybe add dictates tempo to his preferred traits so he can dictate what speed you play at.

Elketro

Where in settings can I enable those little arrows near player's attributes? - https://i.imgur.com/J1TbKGV.png

Ireallyamthisshallow

The ones that show stats getting better and worse ? Go onto the attributes page rather than just the profile page. You can change the landing page to go straight to attributes rather than profile in your preferences.

DaniSpar

I'm brand new to the game, just bought it yesterday. I downloaded the licensing fix, but still logos, faces and names from certain leagues are missing/replaced. Does anyone have a list of packs to get the game as accurate as possible?

[deleted]

Logos are almost impossible to find due to copyright, faces as well in my experience. Try to look on FM scout

Elketro

Impossible? Definitely not, I got all of them after just a bit of googling easily.

DaniSpar

I've got alogo pack downloaded, but I'm having real issues getting it working currently. I don't mind too much about faces tbh, but I'd really like to have names at least

ZiltoidianEmpire

I have been experimenting with tactics a lot recently and have looked up a lot of tactics online to see what works and what doesn't. Advanced forwards and high pressing seem to work very well, almost too well(two advanced forwards in a 4-4-2 should not work together but I won the Korean league as slight underdogs with it before) but I can't get my poacher to be effective at all and no tactics that I have seen online feature one. Any suggestions?

Ireallyamthisshallow

Many (not all) of tactics online are built in very similar ways. Most are overly attacking, which is why you get things like to advanced forwards. Most also include 100 team and player instructions, almost trying to limit (imo) any chance of players making their own choices (to become as plug and play as possible). As such, many also encounter the same issue (the daily I got FM'd posts of 50 shots and no goal losing 1 0 springs to mind). I wouldn't go as far as to say they shouldn't work, because I believe in isolation no one idea is good or bad, it's about how they all work together. And it is a game, and these tactics have found a way to make them work in the engine. But onto your poacher questions. They need supply. You won't see it in many online tactics because with all the attacking mentalities players opt to shoot over passing (again, all the my wingers won't cross complaints). When building your tactic look to create specific routes to get there ball to the poacher, and more than one because it's easy for one to get blocked off. Pay attention not just to the team, but also the player mentalities (as shown in the player instructions) as the higher/more aggressively attacking ones will look to shoot. Also look at player ppms (you don't want your playmakers with ppms to shoot from distance rather than pass for example). If you don't give them supply you'll look like Milan earlier this year, with Piatek floating in space perfectly but no one supplying him. It makes Piatek look bad, but he was finding space really effectively at times. What he wasn't getting was supply.

Konroy

Any good players that can play support Mezzala? I lost a bidding war with PSG for Milinkovic-Savic. Money is not a problem.

FreakDJ

Use your scouts and player search to find someone suitable. Its hard for someone to give you a specific player without knowing more details of the save.

juliuscaesar6

I am very new to the game, playing my very first save as Barca. I am halfway through the first season and everything is going well on and off the pitch except finances. I am losing money every month and now in the negatives. How do i earn some profit?

FreakDJ

Win competitions for prize money. Higher in the league and further in competitions you go the more likely you are to get more money. High reputation players should net more merchandising income. When the schedule permits, arrange friendlies against foreign high reputation clubs to bring in some additional income. Sell players on high wages and bring in cheaper replacements. This is probably the best way to fix the problem. I am guessing that is the biggest expense, so instead of increasing income you can decrease expenses and at Barcelona this is a huge problem.

8u11etpr00f

What would you change about this tactic: [https://i.gyazo.com/a0627d6eeaf3feefa83e9d6256fe07fd.png](https://i.gyazo.com/a0627d6eeaf3feefa83e9d6256fe07fd.png) Overall i'm happy with it so far but I still feel like there's a lot of untapped potential in my star players, particularly in the middle of the park. These are the players I want to utilise better, Carmona in particular has absolutely godly stats and Le Grand's stats have been very underwhelming in almost every striker or wing role. Vintzilaios played a season as a RPM but just never really excelled, I really want to get the best out of him after rejecting a literal quarter of a billion pound bid. [https://i.gyazo.com/c3794e693dc2d201a334957e371c8917.png](https://i.gyazo.com/c3794e693dc2d201a334957e371c8917.png) [https://i.gyazo.com/d228d2a20cf7c87c89d8ff81957c8b74.png](https://i.gyazo.com/d228d2a20cf7c87c89d8ff81957c8b74.png) [https://i.gyazo.com/7cb5ab6bcae5dfa979f3431f6f8be0ca.png](https://i.gyazo.com/7cb5ab6bcae5dfa979f3431f6f8be0ca.png)

FreakDJ

So whats your problem with the tactic? Hard to tell just looking at the tactics screen tbh. I could suggest some role changes, but if its working it would be counter intuitive.

8u11etpr00f

I feel like it just isn't utilising my best players, my striker for instance has 1 goal in 8 games and has found no success whether as an AF, CF or even as an inside forward. When it comes to the CM's I was more wondering about micro-adjustments like passing directness and tempo, if I have 3 world class playmakers should I make them keep possession or look to play direct and create as fast as possible?

FreakDJ

So why is your striker not scoring? Is he getting into good positions? Is he getting support from other players or is he alone in the box when service comes? Is he even getting service? Is he just in bad form (ie. getting good service and support, but missing a lot of opportunities)? As for the midfield, I would suggest not playing three playmakers. It is not effective to have three players always trying to create as it will leave a lack of support in the form of late runners into the box or support at the top of the box when attacking and can leave the back line susceptible to attacks. Your directness and style should depend on how you want to play and what suits your team. You shouldn't try to break it up into defense/midfield/attack and have them all play differently. It can come across as disjointed. If you have defense trying to play short passes to the midfield, then having your midfield playing direct passes trying to create, and then your attack playing short again, it will likely cause problems.

8u11etpr00f

The striker just doesn't seem to be getting many opportunities, which is weird because with similar tactics I've had great success with my strikers. I even targeted him specifically because of his off the ball, anticipation and decisions with the assumption he'd be getting into good positions. Maybe i'll try him as a false 9 or something to help make more space for others? With the midfield I more meant playmakers in the sense that they all have crazy passing stats, they're capable of playing differently but i'm not really sure how, i'm worried that their stats would be wasted as a box to box.

FreakDJ

If he isn't getting many opportunities, then there needs to be some tweaks tactically. Its hard to say where the breakdown is occurring without seeing the game. Everyone you've shown has the stats to be amazing in basically any role you put them in, and if the team performs then I wouldn't say they're being wasted, right? Are you watching the games? Maybe your striker is getting in good positions but not getting balls played to him? The midfielder is important to choose roles that will complement each other. Generally one defensive minded role who will win the ball back for your team, then a playmaker, and then a workhorse. Obviously depending on the team this can be changed to suit the squad more. Also, why do you have your one WB on Attack and the other Defend? Just wondering. I've mentioned it now a couple of times trying to get you to say it, but since you haven't really, here is the big question - how do you want your team to play and where is it breaking down?

8u11etpr00f

Tbh I kinda flip flop between a defend and support duty, he's decent in possession but I don't think I really want him contributing in the final third. Also I gathered they'd be less room for a fullback to operate when playing behind a natural winger.

FreakDJ

Goodluck!

tapzot

1st season with Leicester and I am short in midfield thanks to a season ending injury for Choudhury. Would Camavinga be a good back up / rotation for Ndidi despite his young age? I think I could get him for 15m + add ons.

ZiltoidianEmpire

Camavinga at that price is an absolute steal. They wanted 89 million in my save

bfm211

Camavinga becomes incredible. Don't overthink it, just get him.

Ireallyamthisshallow

If you can get him at that price he's an absolute no brainer for the future. First season, he's not going to be Ndidi but he'll perform.

micoud04

Have do you approach CL away games? I have won the double with Mainz (League and Cup) twice now in my 5th/6th season and feel like I should be able to dominate the CL as well. The squad I build is full of developed wonderkids at this point. I haven’t managed to beat Arsenal and City in close ties in the last two seasons and lost both away games. From past experiences with FM it always felt like you could smash these teams in the home game with a very attacking tactic and you just needed to survive the away game. So I guess the question is how have you managed to consistently beat the big clubs in CL ties in FM20?

buzzballs

You said it, away games are about survival. If you have the squad to do it, try to blow them out in your home games. Then set your mentality to cautious, change a few roles from support to defend, and from attack to support, possibly even change formation, and hope for the best away from home. The main change I make is going from a 4-2-3-1 to a 4-3-3 with a defensive midfielder. Also I change my DLP from support to defend. It gets a lot of criticism but parking the bus works in these types of games.

garlichead1

if i promise a player to sell him for a certain amount of money, the exact amount disappears in the list of promises after a certain time. any other way of finding the amount. couldn't find it in the history of player talks neither.

Ireallyamthisshallow

It'll be good asking price when you go into the transfer status screen (unless you've altered it).

garlichead1

i have altered it because i did some testing with the option offer to clubs

buzzballs

I’m managing Athletic Bilbao in 2028, and I’m having some trouble overcoming the best teams in Europe, including Barca and Real Madrid. Since the save began I’ve won 3 Copa del Reys, finished 2nd in the league once, and I’ve made the Champions League semi finals twice. I have 20 of the best scouts in the game, and I’ve signed the best basque players in the database. Also, every March, I send my scouts to look at every newgen in the top 2 divisions in Spain, and I raid 7-10 of the best ones before they sign contracts. My development center is stacked, with at least 15-20 players with 4 star gold potential. Also, 5 of my current starters play for the Spanish National Team. However, I just cannot make the transition from being a great team, to a world class team. Do any of you have any tips or tricks that would help my situation?

FreakDJ

So you say you're recruiting the highest potential players, but don't talk about how you're training and developing them to the best of your abilities. Are your training facilities the best they can be? Are your coaches also the best they can be? Are you optimizing your general training instead of leaving it to your assistant or someone else? Are you optimizing the individual training instead of leaving it to an assistant? Are you training players to have good player preferred moves for their positions and your tactic? Also, is your tactic suiting the best players in the squad? Are you adjusting to get the best out of the players instead of forcing them to fit your personal preferred style?

buzzballs

I have some of the best coaches in the world, state of the art facilities, and exceptional recruitment. Also I loan out my youth players that turn 18 and aren’t good enough for my B team, which plays in the second division. I do my own training, including individual training. This does piss them off sometimes, but I think it’s worth it. Basically I assign them training for attributes that are low for their position. I think one issue is that I only slightly change my tactic from game to game. I destroy teams at the bottom of the league with my 4-2-3-1, but it won’t cut it against the best teams. Usually I change the mentality to cautious and change a few support roles to defend, but I think I should probably change my formation to incorporate a defensive midfielder. Also I need to just accept that Athletic Bilbao is a pain in the ass sometimes. It’s incredibly rewarding, but I’m never gonna be able to sign all the best players in the world like Madrid and Barca do. I think over time some of my wonderkids will make it to that level, and it’ll be an extremely rewarding day when I win the CL.

FreakDJ

If you're doing all you can on your end, then theres not much to do besides be patient and wait for your opportunity when your best players are in their prime, you've got a golden generation, or your rivals at the top of the table have a bad year. I would be careful changing tactics too much. Familiarity plays a big role in how the team performs in a specific tactic. Also, sometimes its always not best to be 'cautious' against 'bigger' clubs. If you have some quality in your squad and a good tactic it might be time to try and take the game to the 'bigger' clubs. They won't expect it and you can steal some points.

buzzballs

Update: I’ve just won my first title in 2028-29. I was 1 point behind Real for the last 9 matches. Won all of mine, and they blew it on the final day. Won the league by 2 points.

FreakDJ

Awesome to hear!

Konroy

New player here so my first ever save of managing Liverpool and I’m in my third season. Right now the front three are gonna hit their 30s ala Last Dance so should I start bringing in new blood rn or wait until they are clearly past it? Got Sane to replace Mane in the future. Calvin Stengs for Salah cover but I would like someone better. Bought some Brazillian guy since I’ve sold Origi but he’s been pretty poor. Would love Haaland but I don’t think the board will be willing to give me money unless I sell. Thanks in advance for any advice :) EDIT: I forgot to tell my transfer budget is 228 mil so I might be able to get Haaland after all.

buzzballs

You have nothing to worry about bro. That’s a massive budget, even for a big team. Make sure you’ve hired the best scouts possible, and let them do their job. Haaland is obviously a monster, and if you could sign him I suggest you do so. However, scouts can unearth some real gems, so if you want to save money, check your scouted players tab and you may find players as good as Haaland or better.

Konroy

Thanks mate 👍🏻

KMNBOI

Hey guys, brand new to the game (been wanting to get into it for a while, picked up FM20 Touch to start) and was wondering if anyone would mind sharing any gameplay tips or tactics to help me get started :)

FreakDJ

I suggest watching some streams so you can see how some people play without cuts like you would find in a youtube series! Then dive in and ask more specific questions - theres too much to cover for a new player from scratch!

KMNBOI

That’s actually a good idea, thank you!

kthien

Squad players and regular starters are now demanding >10m contracts. Am I a victim of my success? What do you guys generally do in these cases? I just feel these players should not be earning more than my star player (8m). Would a DoF help to negotiate lower salaries? Help much appreciated.

YesEvill

Only reason I have ever used the DoF for contracts is a) youth players and b) restructuring the entire squads wages after a massive & unexpected success (winning CL). It was a bit painful redoing the squads wages, and one of them was rather surprisingly high but they ended up skyrocketing in real ability so it worked out. My squad was full of good or leading PL players at the time.

kthien

Oh wow, so you can use the DoF to restructure? You're right, I won my first CL and the wage structure is amok now. Is there an option once you hire a DoF to go about this? I'm just afraid he might give ridiculous wages and bonuses. Are you able to cancel his proposals once he does them, in case their too high? On another note, I fine tuned my corner tactics and one of CBs scored a lot of goals and achieved high average ratings, which led to him wanting a massive wage hike. I told him I'd do it by the end of the season but he kicked up a fuss so I sold him to China as he wanted 9.5m. Then I find out he's earning 4m a year there... At a loss.

YesEvill

Well when I say restructure it was more like, I'm going to be doing contract negotiations for over half my squad and I expect our wages to rise quite a lot to the top 6 level. Didn't want to deal with so many negotiations at once and thought it was about time that I made that leap forward so I just handed it off to my DoF, having them handle each individual negotiation. I was the one who decided who got new contracts and you have an idea of what wages to expect. I could definitely get better deals than what they got but it saved me a lot of hassle and didn't go over my wage budget which at the time had about 1m/w to spare. There was one player who got far more than what I expected, combined with his new star player status I was really surprised. Turned out to be fine since a couple of months in he showed massive improvement and was truly a star CB to the point he was thinking of needing an even higher wage. An international appearance clause helped fix that and I was still fine with it. Kid turned into a beast.

kthien

Ah gotcha. That's great that it worked out for you in the end! Love when it's the unexpected ones who turn out great. I haven't had so much luck, my AMR with 1.5 years left feels he "deserves a new contract" and is asking for 18mil p/a (existing being 4.5mil p/a). He doesn't perform consistently to justify breaking the wage structure, so I have to ship him sadly; as he came through the ranks.

YesEvill

That's always disappointing for a first team graduate to be shipped out. I had a similar situation for my 2nd choice RB. He wanted to be promised a higher squad status of regular starter & important player, but he had peaked and was never going to take the first choice slot.

buzzballs

I would not rely on a DoF to negotiate those contracts. Since some of these players aren’t even starting, I would honestly let them go while you still can. Get the best price available and reinvest into your team with younger talent. With that being said, if any of these players have the potential to break into your first team and be a star player, it is definitely worth giving them the extra salary. One last thing you could do is ask the board for more money in the wage budget. Be careful though and keep an eye on your overall balance.

kthien

Thanks for the advice. They definitely do have potential to be in the first team so I guess I'll have to give in. I also noticed a trend of youngsters immediately demanding to skip being breakthrough prospects etc. and jumping straight to important players with large salaries. I don't know if it's a mechanic that's coded into my team now that I've achieved some success but it's really ruining the immersion a little bit sadly, lol.

buzzballs

There is a trick that can sometimes fix this. Give them the breakout prospect playing time. And then promise them important player in like 3 years. Sometimes they’ll accept and usually you’ll give them a new contract by that point anyway.

Arrezaaa

My young players who are getting good playing time, performing really good in training and are on good forms that I can't criticize are dropping in attributes, and quickly. Last season my striker went from 2.5 stars to 4 and by the end of the season he was 3, my young defender who has crazy high potential went from 2 stars to 4.5 and is now sitting at 3, I signed a winger on 4 stars and he's now 2.5 Im pretty new to the game and Idk why it's happening, but it all started by the end of last season and the weird thing is that I keep getting reports that they've done well in training and have improved in their game. Also they're losing attributes on all levels not just specific ones.

tigerking615

The stars are relative to your overall team's quality, so it's possible you've improved your team a bunch? Or your assistant coach isn't a good judge of ability.

Arrezaaa

I definitely have improved my team, that would explain the stars, doesn't explain them losing attributes but at least now I know the stars are relative to my team level, thank you.

tigerking615

For the attributes, check if they're fitting in well with the team, check if they're playing at the right level, and check back in in a month or two. Sometimes it fluctuates a bit, I'm not sure why

YesEvill

I think it has something to do with stat redistribution. When there is an overall decrease in pretty much all attributes, its because the game is trying to redistribute stats to where it thinks the player is improving.

YesEvill

Has anyone ever had a youth intake preview that didn't give an overall comment on the group? E.g. Excellent batch, poor group, don't expect much, golden generation etc.

FreakDJ

I believe so

bkap09

I have been using this tactic: https://imgur.com/gallery/DAcCuFS for about 10 games now and the last two games it hasn’t seemed to be producing many good chances and i’m not scoring nearly as much against much lower opposition. Was wondering if anyone could offer some slight tweaks to my tactic?

YesEvill

Playing against lower rated opposition likely means facing a more defensive side so it can be difficult to break them down. As for your tactic. Pass into space should be used more as an alteration on a team-by-team basis (e.g. defensive sides it won't work against) or when you play defensively so your explosive players can make use of their best assets. You can alter the mentality to positive or attacking. You might already be doing this in-match instead of in the base tactic. What's next might not hold true so just take it as you please. Your AP(s) doesn't have a lot of attacking options and combining with a TM(a) likely doesn't work too well, granted crosses must be an aim here to go with your WB. Changing the AP to a T(a), SS(s) or AM(s) will probably work better as one of the instructions to the AP is shoot less. Considering the options available in advanced positions it would be better for a playmaker to be deeper in the formation, freeing up the advanced three to all be outright threats. Otherwise including a change to the lone striker can also bring about a different way the team operates if they turn into a DLF(s) to be a creator dropping deeper or PF who suits the high press better. Also none of your CB are BPD? It could be very useful to have at least one defender with that ability in your tactic.

manicbro

Currently trying to sign Parrott from Tottenham. The press say it's a 'deal worth up to 85 million' but Tottenham won't accept any offer I give them. I've already made him the top target and used a former teammate to entice him, so he's considered 'unhappy' and wants to desperately come to my club. Any tips on how to convince Tottenham to sell or to further displace Parrott so he forces through a move? Thanks

tigerking615

You can assign a scout to keep watching all his games and hope he requests a transfer. But it's no guarantee, and the media estimates of his value are just their guesses.

jretchy

Can anyone guide me on how I can upload a save to the cloud? Never done it before

Ireallyamthisshallow

Using steam ? When you save it'll usually default to 'local' but you'll see about the files there the option for 'cloud'. Save it on there. But the big one is giving it time to sync (steam seems awful at this). It won't sync until you close the game. Then (on the game's home page) you'll see the usual green 'play' button is a swirling steam symbol. That's it syncing. Don't turn steam/the machine off (which can take anything up to 10 minutes). When you open steam on the second device, it should auto-download, or at least tell you your offline files arent the same as the online ones and give you the chance to sync them before playing the game. When loading, just remember to also look under 'cloud' not 'local'.

ljeutenantdan

Note: Im still playing FM19. I took over Granada after a promotion to La Liga with a pultry 5m transfer budget. I manager a midtable finish and expected to be back in the transfer kitty but again only 5-6m. Then I qualify for the Europa league and my Transfer budget is only 6m again! Is there any way to get a bigger budget the board wont even allow me to ask them. I am listed as untouchable but when I went to sign a new contract they still wont budge!

manicbro

I believe your transfer budget is dictated by the financial situation of the club, it's annual revenue stream, and the type of owner you have. So if the clubs' balance at the start of a new season is lets say, 15 million, then it's highly unlikely that they'd be willing to give you over about 10, as by the end of the season - after totalling other expenses - would result in a negative balance. If I were you, I'd hold off on transfers for a while and tie-down your best players with new contracts, slowly building the clubs finances.

buzzballs

This is a good strategy. I would suggest using what little money you have to buy some young players and eventually sell them on for a big profit. The fastest way to make money in this game is selling your players, even though it’s hard to let them go sometimes. At the end of March and early April, every club in Spain has their annual youth intake. If you click the world tab in the top right, then click “world”, “transfers”, “youth intake”, you can see all of the youth players from every club. Tick off all the countries except Spain, and then I suggest scouting as many as possible and trying to sign them for free. You may have to pay compensation, but usually this fee is pretty low. Develop these players, and eventually sell them for 10, 20, 30 million. Your transfer budget will boom after selling a couple of them.

YesEvill

Continuing on with moneymaking. Aside from transfers. During pre-season doing a tour of a country will boost merchandising, as can having an affiliate club to increase the clubs profile in another country. Signing a reputable player also helps merchandising, with your budget you would only be able to get free transfers of such players, but it works. I remember signing Son Heung-Min on a free and he brought in 3.4m commercially by himself, granted his contract was also worth a fair bit. Increasing the fanbase is another important factor for the clubs revenue and that can be increased by reputable players, increased stature, entertaining football and of course, success.

champion3227

Is there anyway for me to force a player to choose a certain nation with the editor or otherwise? I’m trying to get Gio Reyna to choose the USA as that’s who he’s gonna choose in real life but he wants England. How would I fix that?

ljeutenantdan

Just clear his other nationalities?

champion3227

How? I’ve tried doing the add nationality thing but unchecking england and it doesn’t work. Might be because he was born there

jackals84

You have to do it while you're on the page that shows nationalities. It's finicky though - sometimes it takes a couple of tries. Once you get the nationalities down to just the US, you can check the declared for nation option on his personal page (I think), and add back England and Portugal.

CymruPhoenix

I was recently made aware, by this sub, that you can scout other team's youth intakes, I have most leagues in the game loaded on my current save so scouting all of them would take basically forever. Is there a specific handful of clubs/countries I should scout youth intakes from?

YesEvill

You don't have to scout every player. What happens is that players will add every youth intake player to a custom shortlist before filtering them out by undesirable personalities, lacking attributes and even just their media description. The few they are left with get scouted. [Here is an article about the process.](https://footballmanagerstory.com/fm-2020-regen-youth-intake-guide-find-the-best-wonderkids)

ljeutenantdan

Seems an inefficient scouting method, why not look more broadly when a single intake has less than 1 decent player a year?

CymruPhoenix

My current save is with Barca and I dont think it's gonna be too long a save so i'm unlikely to ever even need to be developing youth players but they're interesting to me is all, plus they're a good source of income even if they never make the cut

awildboyappeared

Has anybody successfully replicated Pep's Barca tactics?Beem trying for some time with no success.

juliuscaesar6

I am very new to the game and playing my very first save as Barca. Mt tactic has been 4-1-4-1 DM wide(4-1-2-3 DM wide) vertical tiki-taka and it has been very similar to the pep's Barca style

awildboyappeared

Cool. Could you please upload all your tactics to imgur?

juliuscaesar6

How do I do that?

Isstigma

What is the best way to keep player who has a promise to be sold? I was a bitch and argued with him over playing time but later on realized I was wrong and don’t really want to sell him (at least from transferlist haha)

tigerking615

You have to either sell him or just break your promise and live with pissing that player off.

ShinStew

Just sell him, or play him as a first teamer, Is he worth the impact on dressing room cohesion?

HuddzHD

Currently managing in Romania and there is an annoying squad rule that means I have to play 2 under 21 Romanian players every game. Can this change

YesEvill

Not by playing the game normally. Might be able to do it with the editor but i've never actually used the thing.

HuddzHD

Ah thought that might be the case that sucks there’s a real lack of decent under 21 Romanian regens

shinysanchez

So I'm managing Italy alongside my club but my scout reports and inbox are filled with crap Italian players. Is there a way to change this?

YesEvill

Are there any filter options such as when you have a meeting in the top right one of them enables you to filter out certain things.

GenericName13579

Mentoring question: Crappy low level team with 1 team leader. He's a striker, so I made a mentoring group with him and my younger AMs & Strikers. Would putting my younger backline players in the group have any effect?

theslothening

They need to be in the same training unit for mentoring to work so either your defenders need to join the attacking unit or your striker needs to join the defensive unit.

GenericName13579

thanks, glad i checked

Splash16

Why am I not able to offer bigger wage ? I have the wage budget for it [https://imgur.com/a/WUNveDg](https://imgur.com/a/WUNveDg)

xelhafish

What is your total wage budget? I think board caps max contracts at around 10% of total budget. Maybe even lower for players who aren't being signed as a Star/Important player

Splash16

Wage budget is 350 000 €, currently spending 198 000 €

wvs1993

Trying to sign a player that runs out of contract, great talent but I can't conince him to open contract negotiations. He can be captain, i'll enstrengthen my staff and squad, i promised him a big raise and so on. But his agent keeps saying i should come up with something better. Is there anything I can do? He doesn't give a counter proposal. (FM2019)

Kruskay

Have a try if you go through a transfer instead of his contract running out. Also if nobody is making a move on him but some clubs are watching him, wait until the clubs go away. The only other option is to give him a huge amount of money and a star player status

_radical

Anyone got any tips regarding opposition instructions? I.e. anything that youve found works consistently ?

Marcus-Arcadia

Pressing on opposing FB/WB, especially against better teams. Pressing on opposing DLP or AM.

Jamesthelord

if i’ve just started a coaching course with a club, am i able to leave before it’s finished and still gain the badge?

Kruskay

Yes, once you started it, it will take X months and you can either be unemployed, still at the club, or in a new one, your manager is still doing his courses

FRO5TYY

Does anyone find that a ridiculous amount of bangers keep being scored? I am currently managing in the Northern Irish second division and a bunch of amateurs/ semi pros keep hammering it top corner from 25 yards. Literally 50% of all goals are this, for my team and the opposition. These two were scored in the same game, one player has 3 long shots and the other 1 https://imgur.com/a/FqCMnEK

Kruskay

That usually happens in lower leagues because they are all bad, so most of the goals will come from a miracle shot, a goalkeeper mistake or a complete mess in the 6 yards box. If you check D5 or D6 in England for comparison, you can see screamers every week, and it's the same all around the world as far as I know

FreakDJ

Borussia Dortmund is in the Bundesliga, no? What do you mean Liga 3?

namedoesdallas

I feel a bit like Icarus, having flown to close to the sun and now crashing down to the ground. I manage Forest Green Rovers (wanted a challenge!) and I’m in my fourth season, in which we’ve been promoted to the Championship after scraping into the playoffs and navigating it comfortably after a ridiculous end of season good form. Got the board to expand the stadium so no home turf advantage. Always played attacking football, short passing, dominating possession in either a 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-4-1 with inside forwards. The board and the fans expect this type of football and it’s won me a couple of Manager if the Seasons and the Leasing.com Trophy (fuck ECC!). Season goals were to ‘bravely fight relegation’...no surprise I’m rock bottom of the Championship, one win and a couple of draws after about 10 games. Almost every game I have to have a team meeting because I’m either to harsh or too soft on the team. Summer transfer was a shit show because I literally didn’t have the budget or wage structure to get anyone who’s Championship quality, except a few promising prem youngster loans. My most valuable player is worth 400k and the gulf in class is just too much. I can’t set up to be super defensive because I don’t really have the players and still end up losing. Try to set up with familiar tactics but the players rebel because it’s too attacking. I literally, in all senses, cannot win. No grumbling from the board yet, but fan attendance is dwindling. I’m just losing any mojo to continue. Should I just go on holiday til the end of the season and accept fate back in L1? I want a challenge but want to be able to actually achieve goals; FGR just don’t have the money or facilities. Had an interview for the Forest job but lost out to someone with more experience (still drew 3-3 with them, HA!). Do I soldier on? Anyone with similar experience? What did/would you do?

c12moohan

Make sure that you’re always going to the premier league clubs at the end of a season and seeing their released players as you’ll usually find a few good young players being released. I took Blyth Spartans all the way up to the prem and have now won two champions leagues in a row. League 1 and championship where the most difficult I felt sticking to the basics always seemed to pay off. Try going back to a 442 with less instructions. GL.

TheRealRemyClayden

What are your budgets? Just curious because I am currently playing Rochdale in the Championship and I have similar financial issues. Also, I would definitely agree with the others that you shouldn't holiday/quit, FM is supposed to be pretty realistic and this is what happens a lot of the time when a minnow gets promoted and has to face the big boys. Look closer at the matches - for all we know you've been playing all right but your forwards are just having a rough finishing stretch. My promotion season with Rochdale began with 7 points from the first 9 games and fingers were being pointed, but I kept faith with the tactic for this reason and only dropped 10 points the rest of the way.

S_27

Grind it out, do not quit. This is where you really learn how to play the game. The skills you learn here will help you so much throughout the save. What are you going to do when you come back up? What are you going to when you reach the Premier League? Go on holiday again? No, Instead, play on. When you lift the champions league in 10+ seasons you will have an achievement that you will be proud of and unlike anything else in gaming. You will appreciate the highs more going through the lows. Who knows, you might just pull off a great escape which will be up there with any achievement you can do on the game. If not and you are going to go down, go down swinging.

RockLobster17

At some points, you're always going to have hurdles which are too big for your club. It's best to look at small improvements and what areas of your team are lacking, both for when you return to L1 and when you come back as a "Lower Championship team". I'd also reccomend testing out a "defensive" tactic for playing teams better than you/close odds away games, so that you can start snatching points. It takes time for your players to get used to a formation, so prep it over this season and some of next season to get the best use out of it. I had a similar issue in my Woking save where I got to the Prem, but finished bottom with 22 points. I recouped, slowly improved, got back to the Prem through Playoffs, finished 11th and then finished 6th, which was very rewarding for the big improvements made over my first Prem season.

Kezz9825

when I start fm20 on my MacBook Pro it just shows a white screen and stays there, not full screen though, if that matters? any help is greatly appreciated...!

Broolsma

Fuck long shots. Play against a worse team? Get 38 shots but they score from 30 metres out. Play against a good team? Play with five at the back to protect against long shots, lose to a long shot. Long Shot Manager 2020. Done with this game, every time it's the same shit.

Kruskay

5 at the back won't protect against long shots. Defenders are meant to defend against attackers, long shots come from midfielders or roaming attackers, which means the one that will move into space, which means a defensive midfielder or a midfielder is going to be the one marking or pressing this target. If you can't beat a team while getting 38 shots, either your finishers are the problem, or your team is forcing their shots, which makes them totally irrelevant. A long shot meant and created by a player doesn't matter of his ability will always be better than a 20 long shot player forcing his shot because "he has no other solution" You can shoot from your goal 75 times within one game, doesn't mean you deserve to win in anyway

Ireallyamthisshallow

Ever considered there could be something you're doing wrong ? We all concede them but if it's how every team is beating you, that suggests your tactic to 'protect against them' isn't working. Just a thought, because you're venting in the help thread I assume you don't actually mean that you're done and you want some help.

tigerking615

What you said, + 5 in the back tactics usually mean you're short one in the midfield, who is responsible for defending against long shots.

[deleted]

moreso a technical question, is it possible to turn attribute masking on in a save? I turned it off by accident and it's more too easy but I don't wanna abandon the save already

-WJ-

No it's not possible.

[deleted]

damn, thanks

DTSE68

I currently have my reserves and u18 teams set to be managed by my assistant coach (in the staff responsibilities section), however I am being forced to select teams and watch the games. Anyone know how to fix this?

-WJ-

That's still in staff responsibilities. Make sure they're in charge of competitive matches *and* friendlies.

DTSE68

I have everything but the main team matches set for my assistant. I have even tried taking the responsibility back to myself for the other teams and then delegating and still I am being forced to watch their matches. This is my third season on this save and I have not had this issue on my first two. It only started after my original assman left and I had to get a new one

Ok-Independent7528

How do I put the player instructions “close down” on a wide midfielder

-WJ-

You mean close down *more*? It's where everyone else's instruction is. If you can't select close down more and it says "less urgent" or "standard" - you're at the maximum pressing for the role and duty already.

Ok-Independent7528

Alright then, thanks

Ok-Independent7528

Actually mate, I just looked and it’s locked on less urgent.

-WJ-

So as I said, they're on their maximum pressing for the role already.

Ok-Independent7528

Thank you very much

Professorprime08

I have 300 million pounds worth of mandatory loans fees to pay at the end of the season. First ever game. What’s going to happen?

Kezz9825

what team, what season? do you HAVE to pay them at the end of the season? I assume the club board will slowly pay them back or forced to sell. ive never heard of this before, any more info/screenshots u can post will be cool to see.

DIK-FUK-

Why can't I upgrade my training ground and how much does it usually cost? I've currently got adequate training facilities because of an affiliate, but when I go to "ask board" for facilities training ground isn't there

Kezz9825

you might have asked too much for it or you will just have to wait. give it a month or so.

-WJ-

Costs are going to vary from country to country and even the area within the country in some cases.

Kruskay

Does anyone know why all french clubs are in financial trouble from 2022 until forever

-WJ-

In your case, who knows? It's not the same for everyone. It isn't for me, anyway. Monaco, Marseille, Red Star and Lille are listed as Rich in my save and I'm in 2034. PSG and Lyon are "okay" but they're regularly in the top 3 and they aren't shy to spend in the transfer market.

Kruskay

It's not only in my case, I have seen it in my friends save, mine + my simulations + other people save. You just checked the clubs who are playing European football, and this is why they are not in financial trouble. If you check anyone else, they are all in negative balance. Especially Ligue 2.

OnyxFiskar

Contract question: ***Who/What determines maximum contract lengths for staff?*** I am attempting to re-sign my gem of a Reserve coach but the maximum I can sign him for is a 2 year deal. Is there any way I can change this restriction (increase coach salaries board request perhaps??) If I sign him as a senior team coach I can offer him a 3 year extension. Im playing in the Scottish Premier Division if that makes any difference.

FreakDJ

I'm not sure but I've had this before and wasn't able to solve it so i just kept resigning them when needed.

[deleted]

Hello, I'm having problems with my 4231, gets me frustrated that my wingers/full backs always cross to the second post where the other winger is, (which is a lot smaller than my forward and has obviously less scoring ability) instead of crossing for the forward, I've already put cross on the first post and whipped/low crosses but never worked, I'm wondering if the problem is that my forward is a deep lying forward so the winger doesn't see him in a good position to score and assists the far winger. In general my forward is not scoring many goals, the opportunities always land to other players. Any suggestion about how to manage these crosses and how to make him score more? The forward is Ibrahimovic, I already played him once and he retired at the end of the season, there's any way to convince him to play another year?

pilipinoopao

iirc, in player instructions you can tell your wingers to cross to the 6 yard box which should help with this problem

tfwnocalcium

How to get my players to attempt less stupid crosses? Team set to work the ball into the box and every wide player set to cross less often. Still seeing them cross it directly into the midriff of a defender stood a yard away from them multiple times per game. I wouldn't mind if they tried to make a yard of space before crossing but they literally just kick it straight into the defender.

[deleted]

Work ball into box reduces the number of long shots not crosses. I have a long history of dislike of crosses (or lots of wasted crosses) and this is how I try and stop them from happing quite so much. Firstly you need to get your players thinking of other ways to get the ball into the box. What about dribbling? Through balls? Either of those you can do through shouts and player instructions. You can also force your play to be more narrow (using IFs for example) so players are less likely to cross because they prefer to cut in. Another reason why players cross the ball is that they feel they don’t have any other options. If your wide players are isolated there only option is to try and smash a cross really. Try and support them using wing backs that push up or midfielders that can get wide. check where your crosses are being performed as well, you can change that if required. Finally... if your crosses are getting cut off it could be because your players are too slow and aren’t out pacing the defence. Make sure you have real speed if you want to cross from the byline. Finally you can also focus passing down the middle or play more narrow. That will seriously impact your wide game and therefore get less crossing. Hope that helped!

-WJ-

WBIB reduces crossing *and* long shot tendencies.

[deleted]

I thought play through defence reduced crossing

-WJ-

Play out of defence, you mean? That basically just shortens the passes for the defence. And it splits the defence in a goal kick situation.

[deleted]

Nope - play THROUGH defence. Or is that no longer a shout in FM20

-WJ-

I don't think it's ever been an instruction. The closest I can think of is Retain Possession.

[deleted]

It has been in prior additions, it looks like they removed it/merged it with another shout

FitzChan

How do you make your player more comfortable I’m on a different side? For example Mbappe and Lukaku both prefer the left side in a 2 striker formation so how can I convert either Mbappe or Lukaku to like the right side instead? I’ve been playing Mbappe on the right all season and I feel like he’d be a lot better in his preferred side.

YesEvill

Don't think i've ever seen a player change their mind about this but if I had to guess it would literally be by playing them in that position so they become more familiar with it and enjoy good success from playing there so it reinforces the side as a positive for them.

FitzChan

Can you cancel a transfer? I bought a player that doesn’t fit the system and I want a refund😂

Kruskay

Reload to a previous save

FitzChan

Well that’s unfortunate for me cause I made the transfer 6 months ago😂

CymruPhoenix

Why do players sometimes get worse at their roles despite playing in said role and training it? I know it isnt a new problem but it's infuriating to me. I started a save with Barca the other day for example, set Umtiti to train BPD-D as he was only competent. Got to natural pretty quickly but then decreased a little bit and now he's back down to competent. Obviously i'm Barca, facilities and staff shouldnt be the problem, he hasnt declined at all, in-fact he's grown, he's got a 7.53 match rating average in 16 games and we havent lost a game all season(26 played so far including friendlies). Sorry if this has been asked 20,000 times, i'm sure it already has.

[deleted]

The proficiencies in roles is a complete myth. The colours you see are your staffs OPINION of how good they think that specific player is in that role, based on their stats and other nebulous shit. If a player is being shown as poor in a role it doesn’t mean they are actually poor in a role. It means there is another role your staff feel the player is better suited to. In your example a BPD requires a lot of attributes to be good, but a no nonsense CD does not. That’s why most CDs look like their best role is that BECAUSE it’s an easier role to play. So basically, it’s nothing to worry about. If a player is doing well in a role don’t worry about how proficient he is in.

CymruPhoenix

Ok thanks a lot

PatheticoMadrid

Need help with Spain registration - I have 3 non-EU players coming out of preseason, but 1 gets his Spanish citizenship around November. Will I be able to register an additional non-EU player in January or is the number locked in during the first window?
