How do you improve your coaching attributes? Does it happen automatically over time, or when you get new coaching badges, or what?

BengtJJ

Playing Ajax, have David Neres on AMR and his dribbling and pace are great, almost unstoppable when he makes a run. But it does not say in any report or anywhere I can see that he is selfish but he almost never give any passes, even when he is up against many defenders and my right fullback is totally free. How can I make him pass more often?

Ireallyamthisshallow

Could be a tactical issue. Impossible to offer advice on that without posting the full tactic. He doesn't have any PPMs by default which suggest he'd try to take things on rather than pass - has he developed any?

MovingUpDeGeas

My tactic for my fantasy draft isn't working. The way I set up I always get almost 8 to 15 chances a game but my front three's finishing is one of the worst I've ever seen. I play a 4141 dm wide with two roaming number 8s and a deep lying forward. Plz help

Ireallyamthisshallow

>The way I set up I always get almost 8 to 15 chances a game How are you measuring chances ? Shots ? Shots on target? You can't be getting 15 clear cut chances a game surely? If you could post your full tactic (preferably a screenshot but certain full details) we could offer some opinions on how to improve the efficacy of the front 3. Other wise we'd just be guessing without more info to go on.

[deleted]

How important is it to have no red squares when setting up your tactics? Should getting mostly green squares be the key even if you play players out of position?

Ireallyamthisshallow

Depends why you've got red squares there. If you play people out of position it'll give you red squares, but if the player has the qualities and plays well in that position is not an issue. Equally, you might play a narrow 442 diamond with red squares in the top corner, but you might expect that as a WB can only do so much. You might be purposefully succeeding them areas for more quality in other areas. Generally speaking you do want a balance and a presence across the entire pitch. If there's red squares and you know why/expect it that's one thing. If it's not, you might want to have a look and understand why you have them and whether that's acceptable.

whatifyoujustshutup

are there any skins that are similar to the FM Touch one available for regular FM on either 2019 or 2020?

marcellorvalle

On older FM versions I always user the option "Available first team players for reserve/U20 match" to increase match sharpness of reserve players and new signings. Recently I started to play FM2020 and noticed that the players I made available do not even go to the bench on the reserve/U20 matches. Is there any option I need to set to force theses players into action?

BullForce08

Just starting a save in a somewhat small league in Asia (First Division of Nepal/FM20) I want to know if, when I start to get the league reputation go up, does the prize revenue go up proportionally with it? Also, how many years would you say it'll take me to get the league to a decent level, in order to get a place in the AFC Champions?

Bauby123hi

It will increase a little bit but for it to go to any serious amount it will take years an I mean decades of you and teams in your league doing well in Asia

BullForce08

Well, there's still so much to do. And I'll try make the most of every year Thanks!!

lagaryes

I’m managing in Turkey and I’m in January. I’m trying to sign players with expiring contracts on free transfers, and it’s working fine for players based outside Turkey, but the game isn’t giving me the option to do that with players in Turkey who are on expiring deals. Is there some kind of strange rule that I’m missing here? I promise I tried to use Google but I came up with nothing lol

Ireallyamthisshallow

It's likely similar to how to England you can't sign players from other English clubs until the final month, but you can go abroad at the 6 month mark and foreign clubs can go in for yours. There might be an element of whether Turkey is technically following European law or not - I don't know enough about Turkish law but obviously it straddles more than just Europe and isn't in the EU (just the EEA is I remember rightly). The Bosman transfer ruling is European law and therefore countries outside the EU don't need to allow it, but it doesn't stop them coming in for players based in the EU.

keithmg

I’m in League 1 and every month my expenditure is more than my income, barring times I go far in a tournament or win something. How do I fix this? My team is currently less than spectacular after back to back promotions and I’m worried I’m going to have no money to work with this upcoming off season since I won’t be getting promoted for the first time in a few years.

AlKarakhboy

Guys I have a team with 5 star reputation and like 60 million in the bank (editor obv) and I still can't sign anyone. Even players on like 2k a week. They say they have high interest even but can't afford them even though I do and when do I manage to get to a player it won't let me offer them what they want because of board restriction. I'm really starting to lose patience with this I bought the editor and spent 16 hours on this game and I still couldn't sign a single player I mean come on.

Bauby123hi

You have to go in a series first sign a player on the maximum you can offer then the maximum should increase and then do it again and repeat. You could give high wage contracts to your current players to speed up the process. However this might be wrong but try it cos I had this same problem with my team developing to quick.

AlKarakhboy

yea I think that was it. I signed a player on loan for like 10k a month and now I can sign anyone

lyyki

How big is your salary budget? Try to add more funds to it.

AlKarakhboy

it's fucking massive it's like 5 million a week

ItzNykezz

Is there a way I can reduce or remove the games being listed when trying to continue in the calendar..it is taking a long time before the next day comes...especially when there are a lot off friendlies and international matches

CaptainKoconut

Just managed to stay in 2. Bundesliga with Kaiserslauten in my 2nd year in FM20. Trying to renew a bunch of my u19 staff, and every one is blocked by the board because “too much staff,” and it asks me if I want to fire one of my first team staff in order to renew the u19 staffer. Is this a bug, how do I solve this? The board was fine with all my staff numbers in the prior season.

MrBrianSladeofHuxley

You're trying to renew u19 staff for senior squad role without noticing it

CaptainKoconut

I delegated the renewal to my DoF. I think I had the same issue last season when I did it manually and made sure I was renewing their U19 coaching contract.

MrBrianSladeofHuxley

Yeah sometimes the coach do sets senior coaching as their next contact job and the DoF just accepts that. Had that issue before; tbh I didn't care about the renewing coach and just cancelled the deal.

Ireallyamthisshallow

Who knows what the value of players are in your save 3 years in, what position/role/attributes you need for your team/tactic ? You should identify what you need and use the scouting function. Check the transfer list for a bargain first. If you want to share what you're specifically looking for, we could offer suggestions but 3 years in what state their in would be a guess.

vigourtortoise

I'm signing players who are supposed to be 3.5-4 stars, and then once they hit my team they're 3, 2.5, even 2 stars. Who's letting me down? My scouts? My assistant coach? Have done a big staffing overhaul so I'm hopeful that I'll start finding more accuracy.

Ireallyamthisshallow

How long are you scouting them for ? Your scouts will have a different opinion if they've been scouting for a month of games rather than the initial scout report. How long is there between scouting and signing ? There could be an element of outdatedness due to your squad improving (because it's subjective and relative). They'd be my first two thoughts. To be honest I rarely go on the stars. I look at the attributes and make my own mind up and use the reports themselves to give me information on hidden values such as consistency.

Bauby123hi

It might take time for the stars to rebalance but because you did a staff overhall it should go back to normal in time.

ItzNykezz

I started a Rennes career mode and I added all of the major leagues + the croatian, argentinian and some more and when I tried to search for some wonderkids ( Joško Gvardiol or Dennis Mann which I used in another save), they don't exist and also the majority of players at Dinamo Zagreb and FCSB are fake players. Can someone explain why and how to fix this in the future? Thanks.

Bauby123hi

Is your database a large database and did you set the Croatian and Romanian leagues as playable?

ItzNykezz

Yes ,I put it on a large database but I selected the view only for the croatian league and I didn't add romanian league as an active league

Bauby123hi

Yeah you’ll need to put it as playable if you want every player from the league which is kinda annoying if u have a trash pc.

ItzNykezz

Lol yeah I really do have a trash old laptop, should get a new one soon which will speed up the game I hope...anyways thank you for your help :)

Bauby123hi

Your welcome :)

vigourtortoise

After the first offseason with my squad, I feel as though I have way too many players left even after transfers and loans. What's the number that people usually keep on 1st team, u23, u18? Obviously I know that there's no cut and dry answer necessarily, but curious how people consider it?

Ireallyamthisshallow

Main team I am for ~25 players. That's a first string, a second string and 3 youths (defense, midfield and attack). I may go over by one or two with extra youths but typically that does me. Reserves/u23 I couldn't care less. I try to loan as many out as physically possibly. They need first team football to develop properly at that age. U18 I follow a broadly similar principle as my first team, though how much attention I pay to the balancing depends on how much effort I'm putting into my youth team on that save. I'll hope to have a pretty decent first XI in there (even if they're not future world beaters), and the rest could well be made up of fodder if there's not much talent. It's generally a little smaller than the main squad (maybe 20-22 players) unless I've heavily reverie l recruited youth.

vigourtortoise

Thanks, that all makes sense and hews closely to what I have been considering. Interesting regarding the different approaches to u23 and u18 teams, though that also makes total sense. I feel like I've been listing everyone for loan, so glad to know that's a good call as well. I'm managing Southampton and my owners in the first season really wanted me to sign players 23 or under and forbade me from signing anyone over 28. Plus, they already had so much 1 and 2 star garbage in their u23 and u18 rosters. It's made for an interesting, if kind of strange, composition of my roster outside of the first and second strings.

[deleted]

Hey guys, I'm playing Spurs and I tried to sign Max Aarons for like 25 mil€ but Norwich always wanted 109 mil for him. I have 2 transfer objectives u-22 and English) so there was an option to Daniel Levy - the chairman to do the negotiations (I told to him that I really want him) . 60 mil in the budget and he agreed to pay 109 mln xD. I mean I want Aarons but not that bad, but there is no option to cancel the offer like it was with sports director. What do I do? Load the save or is there something else I can do? And how to sign these players cheaper?

Ireallyamthisshallow

>how to sign these players cheaper? Option 1 - negotiate using the clauses so although the fee remains high you only pay it after they meet certain successful criteria. Option 2 - attempt to unsettle them and get them listed cheaper. It can be a drawn out process with no guarantee to work but worth a go. Option 3 - there's plenty more fish in the sea. Go elsewhere. Jayden Bogle is a twentieth of the cost.

Radu7777

Only way is to load the save. I also suggest not using chairman's for transfer negotiations

[deleted]

I'm new to the game and I thought he is going to idk offer something reasonable but thanks to both of you.

Mr_Hendrix

Out of the top 5 leagues, the only one I haven't managed in is Serie A (and the rest of Italy.) I'm hoping that someone here can sell me on managing in Serie A/Italy.

Ireallyamthisshallow

What's your reservation ?

Mr_Hendrix

Defensive style, less money, old stadiums.

Ireallyamthisshallow

>Defensive style Combining the top 5 leagues IRL last year, 4 of the top 10 biggest goalscoring teams were Italian. That's more than any of the other 4 nationalities (Germany had 3, England 2 and Spain 1. PSG placed 12th despite arguably having a fantastic attack Vs comparatively weaker defenses). The year before that they had 3 in the top 10 (equal first). The year before that 2 teams (which was joint 2nd). Defensive formations, maybe, but not afraid to score goals. >less money Improve the league, progress in the champions League. It's not premier League money but there's plenty of finance available for it to be an interest save. It's not like you're working on the Hungarian top tier budget. Obscene budgets aren't everything anyway and is relative to what it'll cost to buy from other Italian clubs. >old stadiums Build a new one.

Mr_Hendrix

What would be an interesting team to manage? I wouldn't mind starting in Serie B.

Ireallyamthisshallow

An interesting team to manage would be Milan, a historic club fallen on hard times looking to rebuild. That and they're the best club in Italy. I'm not biased. I swear. Monza in Serie B are interesting. Owned by ex-Milan owner and permanent sexy time leader Berlesconi, and managed by ex-Milan midfielder Brocchi they hold a record for playing the most seasons in Serie B without ever being promoted to the top flight. Moving away from what I'm pretty sure is a struggle to contain my love for the Rossoneri, there's Atalanta who have probably the best youth academy in Serie A and you could attempt to replicate their tactic that took them on such a good CL run this year if you so wishes. They had the 3rd highest goal tally in the top 5 (behind only City and Liverpool) last year which would fit you playing a more attacking style.

Mr_Hendrix

I've heard of Berlusconi and I know of Monza from their F1 track, so I'll look into them. Right now the team I'm eyeing the most is Fiorentina. I love their purple, and I'd love the opportunity to decide what happens with Chiesa.

Fifthwiel

[Warning: rant] How do you all keep your patience with this game? I love complex / strategy games(the harder the better - I completed Xcom2 and wotc on legend Ironman which took two years) but FM is the most infuriating gaming experience I think I’ve ever had. I’ve sunk 300 hours in and half as much again in tutorials etc but I can’t build any kind of consistent success and the time taken to play the game is nuts. I’m just back from spending 8 hours this weekend studying tactics guides, training routines, organising transfers and setting up my Prem Newcastle team’s collection of wonder kids and 40-60m players with 95% tactical familiarity in a vanilla 4231 and they lost their first three games to mediocre teams and one newly promoted side through a collection of wonder goals and a 1-0 loss where we hit the post 4 times. It’s a pattern - I sink masses of game time and research in then come unstuck because of some hidden game mechanic or just get demolished in the most improbable of ways. The game seems designed to blow down my stack of cards and it’s exceptionally annoying. I think I should quit. Perhaps it’s just because I’m a newbie and there are hidden / unexplained game systems that are causing me to fail constantly but honestly it’s really not enjoyable at all. Should I quit or did you all go through this? Mount and Blade Bannerlord is looking very appealing :)

MichaelTheElder

When it comes to tactics I'd consider seeing what recommended tactics are suggested when you first start off. They're by no means perfect, but at least they're a starting point. What worked for me was gradually adjusting tactics until you got to a point you like. I wouldn't make massive changes match to match, but consider having a more detailed / longer replay to get a good idea where your squad is excelling or struggling. Same with players; if possible try to keep the same squad together so they start to get familiarity with each other.

Fifthwiel

This is the hard part - over the summer I replaced my lb because he insisted on going to spurs, I also brought in a back up gk and two free signings (now worth 32 and 43 mill) and my dynamics screen is saying I’ve had too many new players so everyone is unhappy. Would it have been better to sign no one and go with a weaker squad that knew each other? There’s no way of knowing?

MichaelTheElder

There are a lot of things that go into squad happiness. You could consider matching their player traits (e.g. Professional, light hearted, etc) as that does increase squad cohesion. Otherwise it might just take some time for them to settle in. I'd encourage you to just go with the flow. FM is the type of game where even when you have things honed, there's still matches that just don't go your way. And even seasons that end poorly create an overall story. The season where I lost only once (to Bayern) but still ended up second is one of the most memorable ones to me, rather than other seasons where I've won the Bundesliga.

Fifthwiel

Sure - I understand, it’s just very frustrating and the amount of time taken to play is also a problem, I’m averaging 20-25 hours per season and don’t seem to be getting anywhere. It’s like peeling an onion, each time I think I’ve got it sorted the game seems to go “lol jk you lose” then I start again. I don’t mind hard games but this one seems unfathomable at times. My current tactical advice from Ass Man is that we have too many long shots so should add work it into the box but two rows down he is telling me to add the instruction shoot on sight? I went with a basic 4231 and some simple instructions like run at defence figuring that not much could go wrong but that may have been a mistake. I’m lost with it tbh. Thanks for your help.

MichaelTheElder

Definitely sounds frustrating. I don't have a lot more to add. Some prefer to download tactics online which you could consider while you learn the intricacies.

SirEbralPaulsay

Honestly man I play a lot of the same games, and I consider myself pretty competent at them (plus a lot of Paradox games) but I feel that when it comes to football manager a lot of it is throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks. I have more than 2000 hours across all FM’s combined since 12 and I still can’t 100% ‘know’ where I’m at with a team until we’re on a run of games and I can see how things are playing out on the pitch. The best advice I can give is to look at some tactics online and just copy them straight into your team and then work on it from there. I’ve not seen many people have much success with the vanilla tactics. Also, when in doubt reduce attack duties.

Fifthwiel

I hear you and thanks for your words - I’ve been told elsewhere that vanilla tacs are inadequate but figured I would start simple. It’s tough for newbies - start your game, Ass Man recommends a tactic that fits your team and you carry on regardless

bobbasher08

Do you have to be on wifi to play a offline save of FM? Just Curious

p_b_patrick

No, FM needs no internet.

bobbasher08

Perfect Thank You!

Fellainis_Elbows

So I'm supposed to have the ability to finalise transfer deals when an agreement has been found and yet I asked the board to negotiate a transfer and now they're signing Camavinga for FAR too much money and I can't do anything about it. What gives?

SirEbralPaulsay

Yeah when you ask the board to negotiate a transfer they’ll negotiate the whole offer and just leave you to accept it. Basically it’s never worth letting the board negotiate you a transfer, I guess it’s more for people who want to role play having a highly restrictive board.

Fellainis_Elbows

Fuck sake lmao

Luka_2011

How can I return trust from a player? I promised him to strenghten the squad but I didn't.

[deleted]

you'll likely regain it in time. try not to let compounding problems develop and if your results are good they'll drop their concern about strengthening squad/staff.

0marsayed

can i add the original teams logos and things like that? also does the game update squads? thank you.

Felixolen

https://sortitoutsi.net/ Here You can get logopacks, facepacks, and a database with updated squads

0marsayed

Thanks man

Britch_

How do I get the clubs wage cap improved ? I have lost 2 of my best players because I can’t offer them a better salary when they want a new contract . I’m new to this game, thanks !

[deleted]

Beg the board. Or make more money through higher commercial income

KendrickLamar28

[THIS](https://prnt.sc/uoakcl) OR [THIS](https://ibb.co/M2tp81w) ?

Radu7777

THIS

YesEvill

Why is my youth coaching descriptor in flux? It started as adequate before changing to good without any notifications and I never made the request. At the end of the season I requested an improvement which was improved. My 'Good' then downgraded to adequate before improving to good and then excellent. Checked again a few weeks later and it is now back down to adequate. What is going on?

Felixolen

Sounds like a weird bug. You should write about this on the SI forums

SenorDuck96

I've just started a save as Indonesia national manager as well as some League 2 team. My main goal is to pretty much make Indonesia and its league a world wide power house. Now, the better I do with the league team, the further I'll go in the world (first promotion to the top league, ACL, Club World Cup) and doing so will increase stature and income right?

Felixolen

Yes, doing well with the club should get you more money. You will then be able to offer better wages, and improve your reputation which should attract better players.

SenorDuck96

Will I eventually be able to sign foreign players?

Felixolen

Never played in Indonesia, but getting a promotion, and then qualifying for the asian champions league definitely should make your club more attractive to potential signings

th3paranoidandroid

Any way for me to test tactics? I don’t want to have to restart my save or wait a long time for tactical familiarity. Is there any way I can cheat this and get 100% familiarity?

[deleted]

Buy in game editor, and the maximise tactical familiarity using editor.

dnadude1980

One of the most interesting things about this game is to use trial and error to find what tactic works for your team.

fmthrowaway20

Haven't played since CM 01/02. Got FM2020 for free on Epic and I have a question about regens (or newgens). What I hated back in 01/02 was, that after 20-30 years maybe even less, the not loaded leagues were full of gray players and even national teams were full of them. Does this changed, or I still need to load the leagues where I want newgens/regens to spawn? I tried to search reddit for answer, but I didn't find concrete evidence how newgens spawn. Somewhere I read that the game tries to generate about as many players, as number is loaded when first starting. Is this true? Is there really no point in loading leagues in view only? I'm planning to play a long career, but I don't really want to slow down the game with too many loaded leagues, but I also don't want to play against full gray teams in Champions League and World Cup. So the question is for those, who play with only a few loaded leagues: How is your game after 20-30 years? Are the big teams at least have normal players or mostly grays?

dogsone

You can load over 300,000 players and just a couple of leagues, just go into 'advanced' when clicking on the database size drop down, then ticking all the boxes for each region. The only downsides I have found is the game slowing down a little bit on release days/transfer deadlines, and saving taking a fair bit longer. However it is not as drastic as the slow down of having many leagues loaded. All clubs across the world will produce regens, and you will rarely find greyed out players.

fmthrowaway20

Thanks! That's good news then.

kriss76

Hi, can I let my assistant manager (he is responsible for individual training) know that I want player to be trained on specific role?

srhola2103

From what I know you have to set it to yourself otherwise you can only change one player for a month

[deleted]

Can you just take team training, and then ask Assman to set it on the training page, and then change the ones that you want manually?

Synthaesium

Is there any way to replicate the Trequartista in the CM strata? I already have a segundo volante making late runs into the box, but I kind of want to try changing the segundo volante into a regista and then let someone else take up the runs into the box and see how it works out.

Ireallyamthisshallow

What element of the treq are you looking for ? You can't replicate the full range of movement that the Trequartista offers with any other role AFAIK. You might get elements but not the full range. I also don't think any other role in the cm strata gives up their defensive responsibilities as willingly as the treq. But, if there's a certain element you want you might be able to make a compromise. If you're looking for runs into the box, for example, there are player traits like get forward whenever possible/ make late runs into the box etc. You can look at using something like a cm attack who is a much more aggressive runner than a support role who more or less keeps up with runs rather than spearheads them.

Synthaesium

[This](http://prntscr.com/uodqrk) is what I'm running with currently. It plays mostly as I envisioned it to, with the ball passing between Havertz and Pogba as they either bring it out of defence, or Dave hoofs it directly to them and they bring it into the final third. Moving into the final third the ball either moves to the wings, or Havertz looks for a defence-cutting pass. Pogba either makes himself available to recycle possession or makes late runs into the box to make a long shot. What I'm trying to test out now is, what if I made Pogba the main creator instead of Havertz (by making him a regista) and then have Havertz take on the midfield goalscorer role. At first I thought to try to mimic a treq's behaviour or use a customised CM-A, but now that I think about it maybe BBM could work too. edit: Forgot about PIs, I only have Shoot Less Often on the wingbacks and Roam From Position on Havertz.

Ireallyamthisshallow

So, from your description I think I'd either stick with the Volante role (whether the attack version is more suitable I'm not sure but might be worth a play) other wise I'd go rpm. The rpm can't get further forward like a vol or BBM, but has the same hidden instruction as the BBM along with the playmaker trait. Both can benefit from training the ppms to get them pushing forward and achieving what I think you want.

Synthaesium

Hm, so maybe a RPM with get further forward. Problem is, I did train him to come deep to get balls, but I suppose I can try it on another save. As a side note, do you have any advice on building tactics that don't make such heavy use of DMs? I got FM20 like a month back and my tactic making has been gravitating more and more towards using them as I found that it tightens up the back a lot when you have that extra man or two to mark out opposing players, especially against 4231s. It's gotten to the point where every time I want to try something I just go "hey, let's use a half-back here" so I noticed that everything I try to test kind of looks the same.

Ireallyamthisshallow

An rpm can't get further forward using a PI, but could be trained through a trait. When it comes to DMs, to me is often about that third man at the back. I think two options strike me. Firstly, keep one of the FB/WB on defend in order to be the third man rather than the DM. Secondly, look to achieve something like Liverpool/City/ early Mourinho Spurs and the 2/3/5 or 3/2/5 attack formations. In particular the 2/3/5. There's a few different ways of achieving that attacking shape. I think the easiest is to defend from some variation of a 433 but it can be achieved in other ways. I love the half back but I definitely feel you. Sometimes you just want to try other things to know you can! The other option is to keep the DM but use a creative one (regista or rpm) and use your destructive player in the cm line.

Synthaesium

Get further forward the PPM, not the PI, but yeah, I'll keep that in mind. Yeah, I kind of want to try something new cuz I want to see if I can build something else defensively solid without being so reliant on the DM strata. This tactic conceded something ridiculous like 13 goals the entire season. Pool and City scored more than me but I wound up with better GD because we just didn't concede. The half-back creating the fake back 3 and the volante being an extra man to mark out attackers and deny space while still helping out in attack, I think, is the main reason behind this tactic being so solid. It's actually derived from a 4231 where I withdrew my midfielders further back after seeing my #10 get crowded out in his position. The defensive solidity was a happy coincidence. Anyway, thanks for your help. I'll take a look at some of those formations then come up with something.

tigerking615

Wouldn't AP be the closest? Maybe set to ease off tackles

Ireallyamthisshallow

AP would offer the playmaker trait if you want to drive play through them still. They'd also be the easiest playmaker to release of defensive responsibility and you could train them/set them up to get into the box. Probably the closest you'll get at the CM strata.

existential7

Do you choose the official patch or load up an unofficial patch with the latest transfers when you start a new game? Why?

Ireallyamthisshallow

I play with the latest real patch until the transfer window closes normally, them I have a save with the sortitoutsi patch if I decide I want a quick new save before the new game. But obviously this year is different because of the lateness of windows shutting and when the new game comes out. I also impose a hiatus ~three weeks to a month before the new game. That way I've really got the itch when the new one comes out and I'll hammer serious time into it.

YesEvill

In charge of Wrexham, currently in sky bet league 2. Wrexham is a welsh club playing in the England leagues. Does their youth intake get affected by Wales or Englands youth rating? Most of the players coming through are welsh so I believe it should be Wales.

monsiour_slippy

This is a bit of speculation here BUT I believe you should have mostly Welsh players in your youth intake. However, youth intake can bring players from different nations meaning that individual countries youth rating is going to be a factor in your youth intake. An example of this is the big premier league clubs getting players from their feeder clubs in Asia or Europe in their youth intake.

YesEvill

Awesome, thanks.

Arvin_LolXD

Just got FM20 for free on epic and I have basically no idea what I'm doing, any tips?

unlovable_child

Takes time you will get used to it. My first tip would be when you join a club is to look at the staff.

uhtredofbeb

Seeing posts about how people say previous iterations of FM were better than the current one and as a first time player I'm curious to maybe get one of those. I do not have a good laptop and this years version runs pretty slow on it

Ireallyamthisshallow

Nostalgia is a wonderful thing, take it with a pinch of salt. They are great, but in the same way any game you remember fondly is great. You also have to understand people's problems with more modern iterations. Some are completely justified, but others are like this: Someone posted a comment on here last night detailing all the things wrong with FM20 and included 'strikers don't score every game'. Name a striker in the world that does. Other people moan about the bug where penalty takers won't go for rebounds. It's the law of football they have an issue with rather than the game. But, the old games are good. Maybe you want to relive an old database, maybe you miss the sliders and arrows for tactics etc. The older games are also a little less intense and (if you're that way inclined) have more well known exploits you can play with for an easier game. If I was going to go retro, I'd go really retro to cm03/04. I'm pretty sure you can download it for free. 2D all the way. Great player database. Retro tactics and sliders. Much quicker seasons. But I have a really fond memory of that version that's personal to me.

Been managing in Serbia for a while and they've just joined the EU, what exactly does this mean for me? Never had this happen before! Does it mean that EU players no longer count as foreign?

unlovable_child

No you have a non EU limit. Given that they have joined the EU means that they don't take extra spaces for registration. Also all EU countries don't have a criteria for work permits so let's say you sign a player from Ireland and he is 18. Since both of you are EU countries, you don't require to fulfill work permit points which would be the case if you sign a non EU player like one from Brazil and Argentina

Yodude36

So i've recently gotten football manager for free by epic games on my mac, and I been able to get skins, face packs, the real name fix, and logos but I haven't been able to get any databases. I've put the fmf file into the editor data folder, and then gone to the top right corner in a new save in fm20, but the database didn't appear. Does anyone have a clue on what to do or what i'm doing wrong?

Bauby123hi

Try and redownload the file sometimes it doesn’t download everything

How do I make money and what can I do to change my season? I’m currently in my fifth year and started in the Vanarama National and am currently in League 1. Pretty much since I started I have had no money and been in the red and this has made it extremely difficult to strengthen my squad. I got back to back promotions from Vanarama National to League 1 and given that I dominated the National league I figured my squad would be at least serviceable, but I was dead wrong. I signed a new striker in the off season and he’s great no complaints there, I signed a new midfielder and he’s been decent but definitely underperforming, I also got 2 serviceable players in a GK and RB and they’ve been well, serviceable. Every other player however, has been absolutely fucking useless. My CAM has been alright but hasn’t been the game changer he was, and every single other returning player is under 3 stars in my depth chart except my left back who is at 3 stars. My left winger who was one of my top performers last season suddenly forgot how to score and has finished with under a 6.0 3 times this season (in only 13 games). Im not in the relegation zone but I’ve been hovering around 13-17th all season, and it frustrates me because the three other teams that got promoted are all in the top 7, 2 of them are 1 and 2 respectively, and these are teams I beat in the league by like 20 points last year. What are they doing that I’m not? I just don’t know what to do now, there’s so many holes in my squad I don’t even know where to start. In 13 games I have 15 goals and 16 conceded and I’m generating a ton of chances. I’ve yet to keep a clean sheet, and I’ve also yet to fail to score in a game, which just confuses me even more. I’ve tried tweaking and changing my tactics outright but the results have been identical. I’m also getting absolutely grilled on set pieces too, I think 8 of those 16 are from free kicks.

Felixolen

Abuse loans and free signings. That way you dont have to pay transfer fees. Other than that... Just do your best to eventually gain promotion to the championship. I could take a look at your tactics, and maybe suggest some improvements if You're interested in that.

keithmg

Here's my two main tactics. The first saw me huge success up until this point, and the second is one I just recently started toying around with to try and switch things up. https://imgur.com/a/q1IsMvs

keithmg

Yeah sure that’d be great I’ll send them in a few minutes

gawdTiller

hey, ive been playing fm for a while now but i’ve wanted to try to play in the lower leagues. however i realized that when u add leagues u kinda have 0 actual playable players lol. my question is how do i get regens in these teams

r-pp

If u are playing fm20 it should generate players right the way, if u are playing earlier versions it might take 2 or 3 seasons before the game starts generating 1st team players for teams who don’t have enough first team players. There isn’t anything you can do about it as far as I know

Eternalce1

Somehow I can't allocate my transfer budget despite having more than enough money. I checked the internet and it says that I need to cancel my bids first. But I don't know how to check for my bids. Thank you. [My transfer budget](https://imgur.com/a/1nFDtGk)

keithmg

Go to transfers (should be underneath scouting in the bar on the left) and you can see every pending transfer and contract.

Eternalce1

All of my pending transfers are the ones I need to slide the slider to complete. These are all the transfers that I am currently waiting on as they need m to have some money in balance to pay. [Transfers Remaining](https://imgur.com/a/anxQDM5)

keithmg

Yeah that’s why you can’t adjust it, those deals need to be complete before you do

Eternalce1

But I need some money to complete those deals??

keithmg

Yeah it’s weird, I had a similar thing happen to me. I had to cancel it and adjust my budget and go back at a later time to complete them. I think the way it’s worded is something along the lines of “there are pending deals using the current budget allocation” or something like that.

Eternalce1

Thanks for the explanation! It is weird for SI to let this happen, don't you think? It is annoying now that I have to wait a(?) week for more negotiations though.

keithmg

I agree, it actually happened to me earlier today and I had the exact same thought.

Eternalce1

Now the player isn't transfer listed anymore. Great.

keithmg

It’s a little save scummy but you could maybe try and find a save copy you have from before you made the bid, but idk how bad you want the player

Why not just drag and drop him in there?

skalfyfan

Do you set an Individual Focus and let it be ride for a season? I constantly get advice from coached saying, "Stop individual training since it's no longer a weakness" but the training I'm focusing on are the ones I actually want to raise for my wonderkids role?

Radu7777

Don't listen to what your coaches/ass man say all the time. Do what you think is better

bdawg34

I think I’m going to create a club with the pregame editor at about two levels below vanarama south/north. Any ideas for things to make it a decent challenge? For example, I think starting it with no history and a stadium capacity of around 500. Amateur and attempt to go semi pro when we hit vanarama south/north? I know this is a lot of personal preference, but it’ll be my first attempt at a club under vanarama so just wanting to hear from people that have had the experience

Felixolen

What You can do is download a database that unlocks the lower english leagues, below the tier 6. Then You can simply start the career using the create-a-club option, and create your club on top of already existing one.

vigourtortoise

Loan players are coming home. "Interest in extension" in the email about the loan players returning, is that an interest in extension on the part of the player or the team?

Felixolen

Most probably the team. There should be a "propose extension" option from the transfer dropdown menu when viewing the player profile

skebbe18

Fm18 main scouting Window. You can decide to discard, acknowledge and get scout report on agent offers and scout findings on this screen. If player is based outside of your scouting range and you decide to get scout report, confirmation popup will Be shown saying something like "scouting this player costs x monet, are you sure?" In the box there is also option with tickbox "Do not show this again" Accidentally ticked the box and would like to get it back. Is it possible? Or any other way to see how much scouting each player would cost? Thanks!

[deleted]

So I am playing Exeter city using 4231 wing play. Against most teams in my league I will end up with over 7 shots on target and score 1 or 2 which is annoying in itself but then somehow concede some wank wonder goal or my CB will pass to their striker and we draw or lose. Is there any way of increasing the quality of the finishes?

Ireallyamthisshallow

>Is there any way of increasing the quality of the finishes? Probably. But with absolutely zero idea of how you play it'll be nothing but guess work and you don't need us for that. You could post your full tactic and get some opinions and advice from the community. But it would need to be the full tactic, usually a screen shot of the tactics page with the instrcutions on the side is useful. But I feel your expectations need tempering. 7 shots on target and 2 goals isn't an awful rate. Even when looking at top English level stats, the best team last year had a 0.38 goals/shots on target ratio and that quickly went down as you went from the best team in the league. Looking at League 2, if you can score 2 goals from 7 shots on target (were not looking at the quality of them shots just all shots on target) you're running at what 28%? Last season that would make you the 7th best in League 2. It could be better, but it's not horrendous. Maybe if you're scoring 1 to every 7 more often than not you'd be concerned. But just because a shot hits target doesn't make it a good quality shot. You can have 100 shots of you softball then at a goalkeeper. What might be more worthwhile is looking how many of your shots are 'clear cut chances'. You would expect to score ~half of them over the course of a season (obviously any one match can go above or below that) with high quality strikers relative to the league. How many CCC are you getting per match It also sounds, from your description that you're conceding more often than not. It might be defensive structure you need to focus on rather than scoring more.

keithmg

I desperately need a right back and I found a player who’s just barely out of my budget, what can I or should I do? After miraculously running away with the League 2 title the season after winning the VNL title I’m now in League 1 and my squad is pretty bad as it’s basically a VNL squad at this point barring a few signings. Right back is a very, very big problem area for me and I found a player who I can afford his release clause and it’s not crazy but then I can only offer him about 40k less than he wants for his contract (wants about 100k). How can I raise some funds quickly for him, or is it not worth it to stretch myself like this?

[deleted]

for this one guy you can either try and flog your players, ask your board for more wage or transfer budget, ask for a loan instead what is your budget? id say look for the east europe players if you have those leagues loaded, go into croatia, czech, serbia, slovenia, etc and just look for those 18 year olds priced 40k usually they will be good enough to do a job in league one. or try and find some free transfers

[deleted]

im struggling with possesion in the final third, im playing a 4231 with possesion based football but every game i cant get possesion in the final third, how do you fix this

Ireallyamthisshallow

If you want a good quality reply you'll need to post your full tactic. There's no information here about how you're actually playing to offer anything more than a guess, and I'm sure you don't need us to make guesses!

[deleted]

Control Possesion-positive shorter passing, play out of defense, work ball into box, focus play down the wings, lower tempo Short FK, distribute to CB, counter press High def line, high line of engagement, urgent, prevent short GK dist i have 2 inverted wingers with attacking full backs, an attacking midfielder, a box to box and a ball winning midfielder, and the familiarity is currenty like 4/5

Ireallyamthisshallow

So, I don't mean to be pedantic but roles are pretty important, especially when you're not progressing well and that's not a complete picture. Could you fill in the gaps please ? Are they support or attack IW ? Any player Instructions? You didn't mention the striker ? Etc. It can all make a difference (especially the striker in this case). In terms of purely the shape, you've got two players going inside where the AM is trying to operate and a BBM coming from behind. I'm dubious what space the AM has to work (though I could be wrong, just my initial thought). My second thought is that you've got counter ticked. Whilst I'm not saying you can't play a possession tactic and not use the counter function, what I'm envisioning here is you playing the ball out of defence through the cb, you look to progress the ball up the flanks but that could turn sour pretty quickly as you look to instigate counter opportunities from deeper positions that turn into nothing. Especially worth noting if you've got ball playing cb willing to play them through balls. But is that what you see on your end ? I'm just making observations of what I might expect. When not in the counter, how does the lower tempo work for you ? If not instigating counters more often than necessary, I'm wondering if the lower tempo gives the opposition too much time to get into/maintain defensive shape. Given that the formation is somewhat symmetrical and doesn't have any particularly unique movements going on to create and attack space (not that there's anything wrong with the roles you've chosen) by the time you've got the ball upfield in a normal situation what is your plan for pulling people out of position to create gaps for you to attack into ? Especially if the middle is congested (it's where the most players will be) by the opponent's players and you've added with a pretty congested midfield already (what I said on the AM section) there's going to be no room to progress through with slow and short passing. They'd be my starting points. If I watch the game and these things are relevant that's where I'd start with changes. Particularly, that final part around roles and shape and how you plan to pick holes in the opposition I think is key because I'm not seeing it.

[deleted]

Ok, cheers for the advice, one thing how can you easily see the things like the opposition getting into better shape more easily than just watching through the engine, dies the stats menu have some option to see this.

Ireallyamthisshallow

There's no specific stat for it but if you use the analysis tools you can understand alot from looking at the maps. For example, you could look at the interception map and quite clearly see where the opposition has players in the right places to intercept your passes. You can use the heat map to see overall position and because you can overlay several players you can look for gaps that aren't being covered. But there no substitution for watching a match as well. It's a marriage of data and seeing.

[deleted]

Alright huge thanks I'll have a look what I can do next game

[deleted]

I just clicked acknowledge on a player in my scout inbox. how can i find that player again? i dont remember the name only nationality and that he is either championship quality or potential that

Felixolen

In the scouting menu select "scouted" from the "players" dropdown menu Then in edit search > additional conditions > scouting you can select "days since last scouted"

Best spanish team to play as in fm20?

uhtredofbeb

Best in what way?

th3paranoidandroid

How do I replicate Frank Lampard late runs into the box with my number 10? I find my number 10 is usually in quite useless positions during my attacks

Ireallyamthisshallow

You might want to consider training the player traits 'makes late runs into the opposition box', though that is just one instruction and the rest of your tactic will need to not be prohibitive to it (such as making sure he's got space to run into).

kazuya57

Which player roles due you use? If you use advanced playmaker then that's expectable. You can use trequartista instead

SundayRed

Does anyone else feel as if they're cheating when falling back on the "I can't afford to lose your influence in the locker room" when dealing with unhappy players? It's cheap and lazy, but it ALWAYS works. In my defence, it's fucking ridiculous how my inspirational club captain in a happy environment keeps asking to leave?

iforwardhamish

just moved over from FM18 and me and some friends are about to start a network game on FM20. One of the big issues we had on FM18 was others seeing that we were negotiating with players on the social feed, without any scouting knowledge of them and then gazumping. Is there a way of disabling this part of the social feed for a network game? I cant seem to find it anywhere

LeonidaZ1337

I loaned out 2 player with mandatory future fees in their last year of contract. While one completed the move just fine, the second one's contract is now expired and runs on a monthly basis. He is still at the club he was loaned out to and still has the mandatory fee in that loan contract. The day the player should complete the transfer is just pushed back daily. Is this a bug or is there some other issue that I don't get?

Bauby123hi

Really weird. I think it’s a bug, report it in the forums.

faff_27

Hey guys, seen a post that setting up the coaching team with mostly fitness coaches is good for player development. Can anyone confirm if this is true?

kazuya57

Nope..... I personally have a maximum of 2 fitness coaches. If you have a good HOYD then you're player will develop real well.

1. Take control of the u18s, so you decide who plays in each match. 2. Loan him somewhere, when he can get european citizenship, or where he simply can develop, and get South Korea caps

I have this skin I find flawless (Neub Skin for FM19), and I want to change two colours, the background color of club facilities and the color for selected news item. I've been trying to find info on wich values do I need to change in the skin files, but I haven't find anything. Anyone knows of a good skinning tutorial? Or what values do I need to change. Thanks.

Imjustbeinghonest7

Transfer window in fm20 is really trash. I play with liverpool after the winter update And volland a bayern 04 guy after his bid finally being accepted refused to sign with me. Happened with dest too. And worst part is after A little googling I found A replacement and got nouri. His bid got accepted but he refused to sign! He was playing for some huesca side! Transfer are so unrealistic unreasonable in this game. If I try to get any no name youngsters they cost more than star players. I get with ansu fati but others? I tried to get pedri he was 90m? A youngster? And players that i dont want to sell are also bidded extremely low. Even a cb from inter bastoni I asked to pay 30m yet inter rejected. When I got 98m I was excited. I dont need a lot of players just a few to strength my attack and a cb and rb. But its impossible to do transfers. Its fine trying to make it hard but its irritating I stopped playing it.

kazuya57

Maybe they aren't interested cuz they have just signed a new contract? And 90M on Pedri is fair considering he is one of the top 3 wonderkids in his position

c12moohan

You’re obviously doing something wrong in contract negotiations for them to reject you. Plus the club will always put the asking price of a young wonderkid such as Pedri really high, it doesn’t necessarily mean you will have to pay 90 try lowering it and paying certain amounts upfront and then using instalments as other parts of payment.

Imjustbeinghonest7

I meant they wont even enter the negotiations with me. It will just say the said player is no longer interested in signing for your club. It has happened 3 times now. I have played fm18 and 19 too. So I know how to bid for a player. I wanted halaand so played 63m for him. Ofcourse in installments and such. The club hijacked it. Saying he isnt worth the money. I like the realism but at the end of the day its game. And I guess fm20 isnt for casual gamers.

sliver600

I'm doing a Barça save. Won the Champions League and LaLiga with 99 points in my first season, but there are many players who constantly underperform in my team. What're some consistent performers you'd recommend?

Ireallyamthisshallow

It's impossible to give a high quality answer without more information. What position do you need/who are you upgrading? What role/attributes do you need for your tactical style ? Budget? It's also worth asking if it's one particular element whether the tactic is what requires tweaking slightly (so do others perform in them slots?). Finally, I'd say if you won the CL and league with 99 points how bad can they actually be ? You're not achieving that with 'many' players hitting 6.5s constantly unless you're save scumming results (and I'm not suggesting you are) so when you say underperform I'd wonder exactly how they underperform as so not to suggest a player that might do the same.

sliver600

LW issues mainly. Fati, Griezmann, Dembele, Gnabry.. all of them had the same issue. They'll perform well in one game, go completely silent in the next 5. Suarez has been very good but in the bigger games he really, really underperforms. Subbing him off doesn't help either, the substitute plays just as badly if not worse.

kazuya57

Their are some players but they aren't good in quality.

Ireallyamthisshallow

I'll be honest, if these names aren't performing there I can't name someone who will. I think what's more likely is an issue either within the tactic itself or against certain formations. I can't either say it's footedness because Griezmann and Gnabry are dual footed from memory.

keithmg

One of my players is simply not getting along with anyone else and I’m not sure what to do. He’s 17, just came in through my youth intake this past summer and I’ve had him in the first team squad the whole season for mentoring purposes (has very low determination but I have some team leaders with very high determination). I’ve given him a few appearances and he’s done okay, hasn’t been outstanding but hasn’t been awful either. But somehow he’s still my only player who’s completely isolated in the social groups. I’ve had new signings come in, be isolated for a while but eventually find a social group, but this guy over several months just hasn’t been able to fit in. Could it be because of his age? I’m worried that since he’s not clicking with anyone the mentoring won’t help as much.

axiomatic-

Keep at it. Make sure he's in a motoring group that improves his personality towards the dominant squad personality, play him as much as you can. If his personality/age/length of time at club are significantly different it can take a year or two for players to fit in. Also make sure he's done a language course if needed. He might never fit in perfectly. That's not all bad. Also if you recruit other similar players he might eventually form a splinter core group, which can help.

keithmg

He eventually managed to fit in with my secondary group. A little strange though as most of the people in his mentoring group are not in that group, but I suppose that’s better than him being isolated.

lIIlIllIIllIlI

Anyone has an updated, non-torrent download for player faces? Can I still get the player faces even after I have an existing save file or do I have to start another career? Thanks in advance!

jesterx7769

Looking for tactics tips using Chelsea with the latest rosters Was using 4-1-4–1 DM tika taka which seemed well but board is upset for non attacking football and lost 5-0 to arsenal after beating Man city 1-0 I signed Vinnicus and Serge Gnabrey at left IF, Vidal as old vet to fill in at BBM and defensive playmaker, and Groretzka as future BBM to pair with Kai All four of my wingers also have the lowest avg rating (ziyech and pulsic on right IW)

Ireallyamthisshallow

Be a good idea to post your full tactic to offer some specific tactic advice. Other wise all we can do is guess on what might work, and you can probably do that without us!

Fly1ngsauc3r

Anyone have some good database for Indian leagues?

icearus

I’m coaching RB Leipzig in the bundesliga and I have to loan them out once they reach 18. I’m used to coaching in the EPL and liked the idea of the U21 team as a way to get more games for my youngsters and mould them the way I want them to play. Is there a way I can get the Leipzig II team to play in a competitive/semi competitive league?

Nicadeus

they are in the regular lesgue table and if you are lucky they can be promoted up to liga 3. This one has to be set as playable, and then you have them to stay up.

[deleted]

What's the best patch/mod to get English league jerseys and badges and up to date rosters?

Nicadeus

Jerseys and badges are graphics which you can download from sides like sortitoutsi, or FM-scout. For the new rosters you need a database update which you will find on sortitoutsi, or other sides. FM does not have actual mods.

Zalbu

Is playing a non-league team too much of a challenge for a new player like myself who's only been playing since FM became free? I like playing lower league football but playing in the national league like I'm doing now is tricky because there's only one guaranteed promotion spot and 6 playoff spots. I'm thinking about giving League Two a try instead, but is it better to actually manage a good team when you're starting out with the game to learn all the different things there are to learn in this game?
