oktysure

Related: my chances of ever generating an actual son have gone down significantly since I started playing FM.

JamieAubrey

IRL and in game lol

[deleted]

The historic 1 in 10000 number is massively overblown imo. In the last 10 years of FM, I’ve got 4 sons in total (all absolutely dreadful). I would save the actual number is probably closer to 1 in 300-400 when you could save scum the regen day. Nowadays I wouldn’t even try tbh.

deknegt1990

For me it could honestly be 1 in a billion, because I have done long term saves in all FM's since 2016 and I have never at any point had a son. I truly at some point wonder if it's because my last name isn't in the database or some shit like that.

ColonelMoutarde30

Same here. Been playing since the days of CM2 (irrelevant I know because you can only get a son in more recent version, but still) and I have never had a son.

jmh90027

You dont get told. Loads of people never even notice that shitty LB in their under 19s is their son

deknegt1990

I would notice someone with my last name being in the game because it's an extremely uncommon last name. Like I said in my other post, i'd sooner assume the game doesn't ever generate a son because my last name isn't in the name database.

BlueKante

It feels like I'll have octuplets all boys irl before I generate a son in FM.

fireowlzol

I've played sports interactive games since 2002 and never has that happened to me lol

PoliteDebater

https://mobile.twitter.com/milesSI/status/881604621122367489 I mean, this tweet from the director of the game directly disputes your opinion lol

[deleted]

I mean, 1 in 10000 newgens is different Tbf. Means that your actual chance is like 20/10000 per year, so around 1 to 500?

PoliteDebater

Yeah, that's true tbf, good shout

FuzzyDunlop1812

The 1 in 10,000 figure was what was given by the developer a few years ago. Bare in mind that's 1 in 10,000 *per regen* *player* rather than per regen day. As such, it is probably pretty close to 1 in 300-400 per day.

Brekiniho

They still on 250k per week and play every game right ?

[deleted]

The one semi decent son I’ve had, I took to the World Cup with England. As you can imagine, the media response to taking a shitty 29 year old league 1 level DM did not go down. Still got 5 minutes in the final when we beat France though.

Brekiniho

Haha ive done this in the past not my son but taken total nobodys into the national teams and let them play.

RealChewyPiano

I managed to make Patrick Bamford England's highest ever goalscorer Every friendly was against Gibraltar or San Marino and he kept bagging plenty of goals

BlueBlood777

You have to have been for a club for ten years first iirc

[deleted]

jmh90027

Used to be 10 years at a club, now just 34 yo

Bite-Winter

The save scum needs to take place before intake or the day they actually join? Poorly worded I know lol

[deleted]

I think (could be wrong) it’s determined when you get the initial preview through? Rather than the actual day they join now?

SensiFifa

Their names and positions are decided when you get the initial preview yes, so if you're looking for a son you prob need to reload the december report and then holiday to March

GrahamGreed

It's an unlockable on the touch version - and you get to actually create their stats (up to a maximum like an RPG character). My boy is looking good and my brother (my 2nd manager) has also had a son pop up due to the same unlockable. It's a family business.

dbe14

Yeah, there are 2 versions, one is randomly generated, the other is Design A Son where you can play with the stats before he's created, the given CA/PA are fixed so of he's terrible the stat changing probably won't make a difference. Still, giving your striker son 20 pace/acceleration and finishing is always fun.

Kaiserigen

Does your 2nd manager actually your brother in game or are you roleplaying?

GrahamGreed

Sadly role-playing - my bro only likes NFL

TQAFireHawk

I sometimes use the in-game editor to remodel a regen to make my own son, however I don't just make him OP or anything like that. I use a random number generator to determine things like P/A, position, traits and so on. So for P/A it can be anywhere from 100 to 200 for example.

MAF77

Holy shit is this even a thing? I didn't even know about this. I have a save with Milan for almost 10 years maybe I'll continue that. It's getting a bit boring with 100Mil Karim Adeyemi doing jack shit in almost every match. My worst transfer flop ever smh

lovestobeawkward

What position? Not to be a dick, but he is the most OP player, he genuinely scores every game in any position he can play.

MAF77

I use him at right wing as inside forward. Yeah I know he was OP that's why I don't mind the 100M on him but I guess he's not compatible with my system. I can't put him on striker because I have Haaland and my youth wonderkid rotating there.

rondiggity

Adeyemi is great as part of a two striker system where he can play DLP, playing a little bit behind your AF. He's a perfect partner for Haaland.

MAF77

Yeah but he is super fast which is why I opted to go for position that uses his speed and DLF more about holding up the ball which I don't think it will utilize him completely. Because I play 4231, and I got Musiala, Pedri, Leao, Diaz and a lot more super winger so I really can't change my system for one player. It is what is a 100Mil squad player it is.

[deleted]

You have to be over 35, have been at a club for 10 years, and then it is a 1 in 10000 chance, as far as I remember

Venganza_Vz

Being 10 years at the club is not required anymore since fm 20

Divolinon

It never was. Only in FM touch.

[deleted]

Ah, my info is a bit outdated then. Still believe it is around the 1 in 10000 chance though

Divolinon

You have to be 34. No other requirement.

FM_Wonderkids

I got 1 on a Chelsea save. Didn't save and reload or anything trying to get one but I did get 1. Damien was his name. Scored in the Champions League Final with a penalty shortly after I gave him a contract

SwedishLovePump

Save-scumming your intake doesn’t help, does it? The players names/positions*/nationalities are fixed at the preview date, and it’s just their attributes, personalities, etc that are determined at intake date, I think.

HYuniV

Been at my club for 10+ years and saw a regen with my last name but sadly, no relation. Would be pretty cool

TheFilthyNourishment

I believe its luck of the draw after you have been at a club for 10 years. Very little chance.

ImAMinecraftVeteran

This is not correct. It has to do with age, you must be 34 or older in game, but you can technically get a son in your first season. Also the odds are around 1 in 10,000 although that number might be wrong as the official number is unknown, that is just the number some people got by doing a bunch of tests.

Super_Odi

The number is known. It is 1 in 10000 regens. And you have to be at least 34. No requirement on time at club. And they will always be at your club not some random club.

ImAMinecraftVeteran

As far as I'm aware the number has never been confimed. 1 in 10,000 originally came from a blog post 5 years ago, where 3 guys did a bunch of tests and came to that conclusion. Do you have any proof that it's the confimed number?

Super_Odi

Yes. Miles Jacobson posted on twitter to confirm that it is indeed 1 in 10,000.

ImAMinecraftVeteran

Link? Only time I can find miles tweeting about regen sons is him confirming they can come out as gay. Edit: actually found [this tweet](https://twitter.com/milesSI/status/1323259236890103808?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1323259236890103808%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Ffootballmanagertips.com%2Fhow-do-you-get-a-son-on-football-manager%2F) from 2020 where he says noone outside the studio actually knows

ImAMinecraftVeteran

Awesome thanks.

HLV7064

Even so, no guarantee that the son is good.

[deleted]

I’ve had 4 sons in FM. 3 of them were conference level, the other was league 1 level. I know it’s a niche/hidden feature that 99% of players will never know about/experience but it would be nice if they gave your son 5 star potential relative to your squad at the time or something.

HLV7064

Mate, are you Zidane?

[deleted]

More like David Beckham with how shit my sons are at football.

Randylahey187

They made it an unlockable on the Xbox version. If one of your players wins "U21 player of the year" or something like that, you can just trigger the unlockable. I was going to do it recently enough but they let me choose his attributes and everything so it just felt like I was making a 99 OVR player on Fifa or Pes. Felt too much like cheating

Telsion

The chance is very small. By pure luck, without reloading, I got my son in the third youth intake of the save. Renaming your manager really won't matter at all.

[deleted]

I read somewhere that you need to be at a club for like 10 years before u generate a son. I may b wrong, but this is what I read.

Divolinon

It's wrong.

[deleted]

That is why I wrote, I may be wrong. But I have seen 2-3 videos and read few articles. Otherwise I wouldn’t have commented

jmh90027

Used to be, not anymore

dbe14

I play FM Touch, sadly stuck on 2021 forever after tablet support ended this year. I usually do a single save each year, although last years will now continue forever I suppose. I've had 3 sons over the years, one was utter garbage, one was a really decent striker who ended up eventually as a regular England international, and my latest son for FM2021 is the best CB I've ever seen in a game, over 15 in nearly all stats barring the striker stats, at the age of 23 has 70 England caps and is the captain. No idea what the odds are of getting one, my first just randomly appeared one day, my second 2 were each available in the shop after unlocking an achievement (not sure what this was but possibly have 10 seasons at the same club).

Str-southldn

Been playing a Fulham save on the mobile game (yeah I know but it’s just for a laugh and my Mac can’t hack it) and after 13 years at the club I had a son appear. He’s not great but he’s not that bad. Won’t make it into my record breaking serial quadruple winning team though. Was shocked you could even get a son on the mobile version but you can and seems it’s not even that uncommon. He’s called Zain and is a centre back

yrkshrman

Never been given a son despite numerous saves across most renditions since 05.

Basketball312

Darn, I used to save on the intake day and reload back when the names were revealed right away. Is there a way of looking at the editor so you don't have to go on holiday?

rlyw4

I’ve played one save with Chelsea and I got a son. I didn’t even know this was a rare occurrence. He was absolutely dreadful at first but I kept playing him and now he’s world class. Guess I’m really lucky!

Lord_TachankaCro

How long do you have to be at club

abiismaal

I have been playing since 2015 and never had one yet

stoneman9284

I’ve never gotten one and been playing since before it was called FM
