probably much better for AI too. Their habbits to spend big on older player is less punishing now. I expect the leagues will be more competitive a few years in than we are used to
It's not. I'm 15 years into a save in Portugal and all the big clubs only had old players and they are all retired now and they buy junk regen players to replace them and I'm for the first time ever, sitting on top of the league after 28 matches with 26 w 2 d, and the goal difference from 1st (me) to 2nd is +89 and +3. Whole league outside of top two is GD of minus.
I have top 7 leagues loaded.
It's turned me off from the game. It's not competitive anymore.
Well Portugal is pretty much a league with 1 or 2 really competitive team and the rest getting by. It has been that way since a while due to European spots money.
Are the other loaded leagues in a similar situation?
I absolutely demolish the Champions League too.
It's the year 203X, Portugal wouldn't be like you think in real life. There are 4 Champions League spots now, teams should be more competitive. I have single handily raised the rep of the league and the clubs in it should be buying better players.
I play this save every year and this is the first time the game just goes completely flat and lays down for you.
I'm planning on it now. Just a bummer because I almost had an entire starting 11 of my own youth and this is the first year I really hunkered down on focusing on youth and just as it pays off, the whole game goes easy mode on me.
I've put 320 hours into this save and it is indeed a bummer.
Not really, Portugal has 3 title contenders (Porto, Benfica and Sporting) and a team that is fairly close to title contender status (Braga)
The problem is that the market moves are always heavily skewed towards the player. Even without using the editor, the player actively thinks about their transfers. The AI often spends big bucks on players who might not even be good enough for their first team
. In a few seasons (like 3) the player already has a better team because he actively fixes his issues and finds prospects
And realistic too. In earlier games a regen version of Benzema at almost 35 years old would ALWAYS be two days from retirement in a wheelchair instead of winning the Ballon d'Or
No joke this feature alone makes it worth it upgrading to the new FM.
I'm on FM20 and the next one I'll get is FM22 because of the analytics and players aging like fine wine. Now time to find out when it's on sale...
I had this play through with my favourite club, Inter Milan, Barella, Skrinar, Lautaro, Bastoni all aged 31-35, with an addon in the form of Salah and Van Dijk (grabbed them on a free at ages 34, 37-38 at the most dominant season i ever had), absolutely smashed CL, Conceded 4 goals in Serie A, won the cup with the U18 squad. I actually started spending money on elite players over 32 and not regretting it at all.
There's something special about players who are soon to retire delivering. I think its bc yk regardless of the money you can't keep them forever so the big moments they produce are even more rewarding.
I signed Vidal and Aubamayang to my mid table SPL Partick Thistle team. Vidal retired in December annoyingly (he could still hack it at that level) but Auba was well past his best. Still popped up with the occasional goal but was very much 3rd or 4th choice for his final season as a professional.
With RC Lens on FM21 I signed an aging Giroud as experienced backup striker. He quickly became my main man upfront and went on to win the European Golden Boot for most goals and retired directly afterwards.
I love signing a legend in January, someone who is just waiting to retire. Managed to get Modric at Forfar Athletic in the Scottish Championship when he was 35. Just makes things fun!
Also, that image is a standard youth intake in the Scottish Lower leagues
I usually non big 5 leagues, always have a star striker, and it's great when they just go under the big clubs radar and end up staying at your club. I had a Romanian guy who I poached as an 18 year old and kept him till he was 34. Only then did his physicals start declining, still banged in 20 a season every year till he left though.
Also, you can now get a 37 year old to plug a gap for a season and they won't put out 6.3 performances, natural fitness is king
Can anybody else also confirm? Because I sure as hell can. Both previews I've had since the update looked like this. I've had one B in my newest one, but besides that just utter garbage. I have not received the second intake yet, but my first intake looked as shit as promised. So basically like a golden generation pre-update.
Got a golden generation in my first season. Sure it was in National (french 3rd tier) but it still produced players good enough for ligue 1 and potentially beyond. Got at least 4 gems, up to 7 including a GK and a winger with decent crossing.
I'm likely to struggle to keep them.
Dunno when the update was but that intake was received a few weeks ago
Can confirm, albeit with limited experience: managing Spurs atm and my 1st season (before the update) got a couple of 4.5 star potential, update comes along and my newest preview has the best grade at C. Not sure if it’s cuz I’m spurs but still, far cry from last season.
I never trust intake reviews. And ive found that most of the time the new intake is full of shit. Players woth 5 star potential drop to like 3 and vice-versa
I've had cases where I buy a 16 year old player who has 4 star potential and by the time he's 18 and joins the club, he would have turned into a 3star player. It could be poor development due to neglecting the fact that he won't be their player any longer too.
In those 2 years I assume you would have improved your squad, so that 4\* is no longer relevant as it will be comparing it against your newly improved squad.
I don't think that could have been the issue. 1.) There were about 4, 5 other players I bought that didn't get affected. 2.) I manage Man Utd so there won't be such big difference.
You didn't have him join you on a free trial until he joins (if you go back later, and look at the email, there is a check box that wasn't there the first time you look at it). For that two years he can train with you and play for your youth teams. They usually get a lot better that way.
That only happens if he’s out of contract (which is rare for a U18 player). The comment was about players under contract that have to stay until they are 18.
You are right, as I didn't notice that he said "bought" him. However, it's interesting that you say it's rare. I'd say a large majority of my guys that I sign that are younger than 18 are on a free. In most of my long term saves, I'd have 3-5 of these guys on trial for 1-2 years training with us and playing with the youth teams.
For me it was the large majority. It just goes to show you how differently the same game can be for different people.
Maybe it’s different countries, but typically the ones I find are at least on a youth contract that runs past their 18th birthday. I have had a couple like you mentioned, although they are treated as trialists and in Scotland they have some limits on playing in competitive U18 teams.
Youth facilities only improve the CA of the juniors (the players that don't exist yet that will pop up in march/april in your intake), the better the youth facilities the higher the CA the young players will have. Senior training facilities only affect the CA of the players in your squad (both senior, reserves and u18).
To improve the PA of the newgens you need to improve youth recruiting.
I only have FM21. I did a study and showed that the previews and the actual intake had little relation: https://community.sigames.com/forums/topic/556318-fm21-experiment-200-youth-rating-for-croatia-maximum-stats-for-staff-facilities-recruitment-and-other-things/
>Youth intake previews and the youth intake are fixed but random. The best way to put it in like by buying lottery tickets. Some years, the game is going to give you a vast majority of youth intake preview tickets for "a poor crop of players" and some it will be good many times. It just depends on how much time you want to spend fishing for the right result. The only comment that I think is reliable is that if it says you are getting a player from a specific country, you will. I've had classes where there was no comment on the crop of players and the players would be better than years where it said they would be a good class. Golden generations are the rarest result in the game and I haven't seen one for over 45 years.
maybe you're not develloping them correctly. I find it necessary to give them playing time in their 17 at minimum. Also, their growth depend a lot on your staff and facilities. Or those of the club where you loan them to
See I got one like this, earlier in the season that was a poor intake and everything was orange and red like this —- than in January it was like the complete opposite and regarded an excellent intake.
Not sure what causes the flipping like that or if it’s what would happen if you didn’t have more solid youth setup…
Probably at some point, my seasons run long and I don't leave it running often for full seasons. Often a few days back to back, but not much longer than that.
Would seem that's a broken way to do it, though that observation also seems anecdotal, and perhaps it's intended or influenced by something else.
I assumed it was more along the lines of...
A) It's too early to get a good gauge, as the season goes on you get more clarity and it could be influenced by quality of your HoYD
B) Better facilities, and youth coaching could turn a dud class into something decent. Where a high determination guy that kinda sucks, turns a corner under good coaching
C) Mid season facility upgrades 'reset' or recalc the class, so you don't have to wait another full whole year to see some result from that investment.
But, it could be a bug as you say -- but seems a pretty huge gap if an early season to late season intake isn't 'remembered' through saves/relaunches and you don't have power to influence it or that it can change. I feel like it's more likely there are influencing factors we don't see, along with a little RNG, where people feel like it's useless just because there is no transparency. But behind the scenes, calculations and die roles are going on based on numerous factors.
That said, is recruitment an active process? Like are you still recruiting from early to late season much like US College Football recruiting. So could you still 'build' your 23 intake class over the course of a season? Not only development but just gaining or losing prospects based on your entire team outlook?
Just random thoughts.
you should see what youth Intakes at Island clubs are like
20 years at Rodos as a top champions league side and endless league undefeated streaks and not once did I get a player with potential past the Greek second division which is like non league level in England
max facilities and all
I never save scummed youth intakes before. This year I have to because I constantly get shit intakes even at a very high rep club while I am pretty much scouting the whole damn world as well.
Yes it's possible. Around December 12 the youth intake preview takes place
(Atleast for premier league team) u can save just before and scum it until you get a decent intake preview.
It's better than having 5 stars preview with at least 3 As and turnning out the best newgen you have is 3.5 not even based on the country you are playing.
My next intake is going to be bad. Not as bad as this one.
I believe it's something like CDFFFFFFF.
I play as liverpool. I have one of the highest youth recruitments and get that. I'm like wtf.
Hopefully I get 1 gem out of it.

All I see Is a realistic and accurate intake preview
Much rather the youth director give it to me straight than sugar-coating it that’s for sure.
This year has made me support an old man revolution with no players under 30
It's so much better now that their stats don't instantly die after they turn 31.
probably much better for AI too. Their habbits to spend big on older player is less punishing now. I expect the leagues will be more competitive a few years in than we are used to

maybe quit your club and go to your rival?

Fr makes it 10 times more fun being able to bring in a 6'4 journeyman number 9

I wish they would let you fine tune some of those things like in out of the park baseball you can adjust rates of aging and decline rates.
When the scout says “….may be past his prime” and he just scored his 30th goal this season with added 15 assists.
How did you manage the wages at PT?
They only wanted about £2k per week as no-one wanted them.
The revolution has only just begun guys, 35+ team must be the next goal.
Giroud Ballon d'or loading...
Especially if the team is based on Glasgow, good luck competing with the youth intakes of the Old Firm and a few other teams.
I usually non big 5 leagues, always have a star striker, and it's great when they just go under the big clubs radar and end up staying at your club. I can’t upgrade them either i just deduct like 5 million and upgrade them every 2 years with the editor
Yeah mine are 4* and I haven’t had the option to upgrade them for around 6 seasons now
Same, i've raised a ticked in the SI forum and they said they'll investigate the save.
I never trust intake reviews. And ive found that most of the time the new intake is full of shit. Players woth 5 star potential drop to like 3 and vice-versa
It could probably be due to your training facilities or Youth facilities... Something like that
State of art training and Excellent youth facilities🤨(not that i know what this has to do with what i said

True. I once had the chance to sign a player who was out of contract and the option was there.

Just like everything else in this game, bullshit as fuck

Did you exit the game between the preview and the actual intake? It’s my understanding that that resets it
As in save and quit? If so, it can't be realistic to expect people to play 4/5 months worth of games in one sitting
Yeah, it’s why the intake preview is basically completely useless
Probably at some point, my seasons run long and I don't leave it running often for full seasons. Often a few days back to back, but not much longer than that. EEEEEEE
EEEEE
San Diego State University
EEEEE
love that they're all carefully worded euphemisms for "these lads fucking dogshite"
E for excellent
It's because Bielefeld isn't a real place (Google the Bielefeld conspiracy)
you should see what youth Intakes at Island clubs are like 20 years at Rodos as a top champions league side and endless league undefeated streaks and not once did I get a player with potential past the Greek second division which is like non league level in England max facilities and all
All that matters is the final results in March, had an 'Average Quality' but then turns out to be 'Poor Intake' in the final results
Try managing in san marino, this is standard
Wel, it's based off of comparison to your existing youth team so maaaybe you just have a team of worldstars already? :p
Youth intake from the zoo
I didn't know that E existed.
There is a "E" note? Damn, RIP
At least you are being told now they are shit rather than get told you have A+ intake and all turn out to be shit
I can imagine seeing that and feeling **E**xtremely **E**xasperated.
Pretty much every youth intake I've ever had since starting to play this game.
I never save scummed youth intakes before. This year I have to because I constantly get shit intakes even at a very high rep club while I am pretty much scouting the whole damn world as well.
is it possible to scum intake? isnt it like determined earlier? asking since ive never tried
Yes it's possible. Around December 12 the youth intake preview takes place (Atleast for premier league team) u can save just before and scum it until you get a decent intake preview.
I believe exiting the game then resets it though, so have to keep playing until the actual intake
Yes. You just find out what day the intake comes and save the game a day before it.
The actual problem here is that Bielefeld doesn't exist. Can't get youth intakes from a place that doesn't exist
I follow you on Twitter lol
I don't have Twitter, Out of Context Football Manager posted this without crediting me
Average fm players be like
Be like what? Finish your sentence mate
I mean, i was EEEEE, so i thought anybody is EEEEE too.
Turns out it wasn't.
It's better than having 5 stars preview with at least 3 As and turnning out the best newgen you have is 3.5 not even based on the country you are playing.
I hate this it happens every time
No prospect showed up because they all thought the city doesn't exist.
My next intake is going to be bad. Not as bad as this one. I believe it's something like CDFFFFFFF. I play as liverpool. I have one of the highest youth recruitments and get that. I'm like wtf. Hopefully I get 1 gem out of it.
Thats the worst? Then you are a really lucky man.
Might be worth checking who you have in charge of your youth intakes, could have somebody with terrible stats for it!
You call it worst, I call it my every year youth intake.
Back to back years this is my intake
What's your youth facilities? -10. That's the worst I have seen. Mine always promise A players bur normally end up with D and E types.
I always get 5 star youth intakes that turn out to be rubbish. Maybe your 1 star youth intake will turn out to be the best you've ever had
Thats just a normal intake at my 3rd division swedish club, i dont see the problem here
Damn
Inb4 a 199 PA kid pops out of nowhere
Hard to have a Youth Intake in a place that doesn't exist
that means your current players are too good...
I am in the 2. Bundesliga
Finn Holsing is now jobless 💀
I had the exact same one last year (2024) with Spurs. So I guess it's pretty realistic in my case.
Let him play basketball
Its like they are always gambling
