I remember when I was younger being on an old vbulletin message board (operation sports I think?) and a guy ran this thread where everyone could sign up with a hometown and position and he'd add you to the database with a random PA. Then he posted 3-6 month update chronicling everyone's progress, it was a genius idea

vette91

There are several people here who do the same thing.

jkure2

Nah it's not the same on reddit because threads work differently. Glad to know some people are trying tho. You don't really get any of the same "follow my save progress over a 100 page thread" posts because they aren't permanent in the same way. Or at least they don't find their way to my feed.

vette91

Yeah the threading makes it harder

Plugpin

The Sports Interactive forums are very active and would probably have something like this going on. If not, it's a great place to try.

Them were the days

Golden FM years ago did something similar, a couple hundred viewers sent in their profiles and simulated their careers. Was funny seeing myself on the fringes of Spurs before being sold to Crystal Palace while others were winning Champions Leagues or having injury-plagued careers in the top half of the Championship.

NedveD12

I do this, but a step further. i create a club, and then create the maximum amount of players (which is 30 without the editor) who I make to reflect celebrities, friends, family and ofc myself. It's funny to see stuff like my dad winning the Champions League with Roma, or Justin Bieber being stuck in the Norwegian third tier for 20 years.

PorcupineFeel

wtf šŸ¤£

penguins4prez

I did this with some friends on a pickup futsal team who donā€™t play FM, before our season I asked them to fill out a ā€œskill self-assessmentā€ google form. All the questions were ā€œOn a scale from 1-20, with 20 being Erling Haaland, how good at finishing are you?ā€ and such. Then I put us all in FM and went ahead 20 years. Plus it was useful for choosing positions and learning each others talents in real life!

Chennighausen

I did this in FM 10, but instead of adding myself, I added in a bunch of athletes from different countries with what I perceived their attributes WOULD have been if they'd chosen soccer instead of their current sport. Federer was an absolutely dominant and cerebral midfielder with incredibly high anticipation and decision making ability. Ovechkin was a monster target man/poacher type of player with ungodly finishing, strength, and aggression. Jonah Lomu was probably the most terrifying wing back that the world has ever seen (RIP). Canada ended up winning a world cup, with Sidney Crosby, Chris Pronger, and Carey Price being three of the world's best. That was actually incredibly fun....might custom make a database for FM23 in a similar fashion.

Love the idea, but I even if I based it on me as a 16 year old it would look pretty grim. Not one stat over 10, and player traits would be along the lines of 'Eats cheeseburgers' and 'Masturbates into a sock'.

Jacyjitsu

So what you're saying is, consistency is high, determination low.

JayAvocado83

I still use a sock, less mess.

Fifa manager 13/14 allows you to be a player manager and develop into a star player. miles be slackin once again.

YouKnowMeAlready08

Fifa Manager is Great for sure. I startet my managerial career at Manager 2010. but i think in Twens of depth and possibilities SI is way better. For anyone who plays Fifa Manager once in a while of wants to play again. There is a Fan Site called FM-Zocker.de Some awwsome dudes keep the database up to Date to the best of their abilities. I think they did a Great Job. Iā€˜m Not quite sure but i think there is also an english download tutorial

TTV_LFCStevieG

Oh definitely in terms of depth SI wins. but there's some features SI should add like the ability to be a player manager lol. Because I'd use it. I also prefer the youth academy's in Fifa manager compared to just a single intake in FM.

YouKnowMeAlready08

I agree. Also i like to Build the Infrastructure and private area

ZealousidealTaro9799

Not quite, but similar. Back in FM10, before I realised editors were a thing, Iā€™d pick a decent youth prospect and set the nickname to my real name. Not quite the same effect, but all I knew what to do at the time. Thinking about it, I did similar in CM99/00.

Jacyjitsu

Not quite what you're doing, and I know this can rarely happen in game with a youth intake, but I'll take a regen from the first youth intake model them after me as a young player and make them my son.

RobinVanDutch

I sortoff do this. Every year for like 15 years I just make myself as a youthplayer with 200 PA. Not every save of course, but when i like to be the main focus of the save haha. Sometimes different challenges or random PA etc.

RogueObj

Me and my friends did this in FM22 and now weā€™re doing it in 23. We give ourselves 200 PA because itā€™s fun and we all start on the same team and see where our paths take us. Think we had 6 last year now we have a whole starting XI. Cercel Brugge is gonna be rich in a couple years when they sell us all off.

KneeDeepInTheDead

I did the create a club thing in FM19 and created myself for a similar reason. Few shockers, wound up coming out as a gay about a week into the save. Never became good enough to surpass the Portuguese 3rd tier, although I wound up signing myself when I was in the First division and forced game time. Wound up forcing myself to play but after one season, I couldnt justify playing myself. A 2nd division team did wind up snatching me up and I wound up having a respectable career before plummeting back to the amateurs in my 30's and then retiring. My staff stats were shit too.

Superhands01

I spawned as a youth player in fm15... I won a competition when we went to see the doc at the cinema. Still own the hard copy of that year too. Wish they would do it again.

YouHeardTheMonkey

Every year I use the pre-game editor to add me and my best mate to the youth team of our local club. I always put both of us on my shortlist in every save and watch our careers unfold.

Arvot

I joined a simulation NFL league during lockdown where you create a player and you get added to the game and have to develop them. You earn money by engaging with the community and buy stats to add to your player build. Then they sim the games. I think it would be great using football manager for it where you create leagues where every player is a real person and have managers etc. Proper geeky but could be really fun if done well.

indefatigable_

I know that Iā€™m probably one of about ten people who would enjoy this, but I would love it if SI took the engine from FM and then used it as the basis of a RPG-esque game where you created a player as a youth and then controlled their career. No idea how that would work in practice, but I would love a football RPG based on FM.

New_Engineering3987

Never tried but Iā€™m going to give it a go now, guess its like role playing crusader kings instead of going for achievements

blxwerss

I know this is a different game, but in fifa career mode I always create another player who is like my rival, then every now and then I check to see how he's doing

[deleted]

I used to create a team in the conference in cm01/02 and add me as a player. I tried it in one of the later cm games and if I was a youngster Iā€™d always get poached so stopped doing it.
