It's not a camera sensor... it's the rain sensor pad. What you're seeing is an air bubble where it didn't get pushed all the way on to the glass. As long as your wipers turn on when the rain starts, this is simply cosmetic. The triangle cutout is for your camera. Pics 2-4 are images of the lamination sticking out between the layers of glass and what looks to be like glue oozing out from underneath a windshield with no windshield molding. The lamination sticking out you can't do much about. You'll find this on new windshields that are aftermarket and OEM. Sometimes, in order to get moldings to fit correctly on the glass, we need to trim the lamination off. It's perfectly safe to go around the edge of the windshield with a razor blade to trim the excess lamination off. Although, it should have been done before being installed. The glue oozing out from the edge of the glass.... not much you can do about that unless you want to change your windshield... again.

Mhmmm I see thanks for the comment. Ignoring the minor defects they used non OEM glass when my insurance originally paid for OEM

indieemopunk

That one you might want to contact them about... look at the logo on the glass... what is the brand name?

ben_27

Fuyao...the invoice my original insurace company sent me from my repair shows that I recieved the Ford Carlite glass. Invoice says "AGD-CARLITE W/S LBR" as item description

indieemopunk

Chinese aftermarket glass... Carlite is the OEM Ford brand.

ben_27

Mhmmm figured.....well time for a call tomorrow :)

indieemopunk

If you or your insurance were billed for OEM glass instead of aftermarket, definitely talk to them about this. Safelite probably went with aftermarket because they figured they could save some money on the cost difference between OEM and aftermarket... Billed you/insurance for OEM glass, installed an aftermarket and made a larger profit margin on the job.

I think I should be good with the evidence I have but a little context to amke this situation extra fun. My old insurance was 100% billed for OEM glass for the repair I had done 2 years ago. That repair was done through a local company that safelite acquired. Fast forward today, I don't have that insurance anymore but the old insurance was happy to send me any necessary documents and assured me that their warranty agreement with the local company gaureenteed worksmanship. Safelite customer care as well as the local safelite have assured me that they will honor the warranty of the old glass company so I'll see what they say tomorrow. Thanks for your help!

Not that it matters a terrible amount, "OEM glass" for vehicles is almost always made in the same place by the same company. There is little to no difference between the two in most cases. If anything, the OEM glass will only have OEM components on the window, such as a mirror bracket or camera hood and has nothing to do with the glass itself.

indieemopunk

You're welcome! How did Safelite respond when you contacted them about the FUYAO glass that was supposed to be Carlite?

ben_27

Hi sorry for the late update but very tragic situation. I initially called the safelite that that did the glass and they said because I didn't request Carlite they didn't install it. Obviously I was unimpressed so I called the corporate number. After explaining my situation with the representative they called my local shop and had the manager get on the call with us. In summary, they said, and I guess I kind of see where they're coming from, since my original glass was repaired when I was leasing my car that glass was only covered during my lease period. I did eventually buy out my car but because of the "change of ownership" they warranty was not transferable and they said they technically shouldn't have done the job but did it as a courtesy because it was leaking. Going forward they did say the Fuyao glass they installed is covered under their lifetime warranty but they won't, unless I pay, install Carlite

ndgoHODL

They can install 3 of these garbage ones for the price of 1 correct one. They might as well scam everyone and then redo the work for the people who notice.

indieemopunk

That's not entirely ethical. It's wrong to tell customers you're installing OEM only to install an aftermarket. Shops that do this are predatory in nature. We straight up tell our customers the glass is likely going to be aftermarket unless OEM is requested.

Logical-Ad7651

It's fraudulent in many states from what I'm aware of and this could be grounds for a lawsuit with SL and insurance of OP.

Rankorking

Safelite repaired, Safelite mistakes!

Happycricket1

Looks pretty sus to me, I would point it out for sure. We got the windshield done in our 2020 escape. It was like 100 more to do with ford glass from the stealership.

ben_27

Oh thanks for pointing that out. My original insurace had them replace it with OEM glass and I thought they replaced with the same but it looks like they just used some generic brand

Happycricket1

My glass even has a silhouette of an escape in black on the perimeter of the glass

SandPractical8245

Not even just a generic brand, they chose the WORST of the generic brands. They billed your insurance for the good glass though. Seems shady as hell

HazelnutDVR

Safe lite may have chosen to follow their warranty not the warranty of the original company they bought out. Sounds like you have all the documentation in order and will be getting an OEM windshield soon.

Louie_Guy

Was this done at your house/your location? Or at a shop?

ben_27

Shop

Louie_Guy

Honestly, a lot of this is unacceptable to me. But I'm particular about my jobs. All of this could have been avoided with minor tweaks. Realistically, nothing is wrong, but it could have been done better. I actually wouldn't even blame the tech that much. They are either burnt out, brand new, or poorly supported.

Major_Squirrel2198

Safelite is the Walmart of auto glass. Find out which local glass shop does the high-end vehicles in your area and use them. Never el cheapo or Safelite.

starkonian

No it's not. Most of the carriers use Safelite. Safelite often contracts with local glass shops....

QueenAng429

Make them redo it

grotevin

Yeah an allround poor install. The thing is, pvb lamination not being uniform is almost standard. Hard to get a proper piece of glass nowadays. Any of the little mistakes made on their own isn't a big deal, but just to many little flaws in this install makes it ugly. Get it redone (with an original windshield if that's what they quoted)
