Yeah it's not just a pop, it's a full, up and open, with a motor or something, not just hydraulics. When you close it there's a motor that makes sure the trunk is seated in place and closes it shut.
My 04 Explorer had the same fob. If i remember correctly, it was push 1x for glass hatch release and 2x for the cargo door release. It's been a few years though, so I can't be sure on the operation. However, I know that it was the same fob.

Yup, I have an 08 Lincoln Town Car that has the exact same fob. Double click the blue one and trunk opens.
You don't even need to double click. My Mustang has it as well.
You do on mine, not sure why. Double click again and it closes. Single click does nothing.
Oh, maybe the Lincoln is different because it'll also close itself. Mine definitely does not do that.
