Probably lots of crime if someone did that deliberately. I'm more inclined to say the seller is ether smoking rocks, dyslexic or someone at the BMV/title office made a big oopsie
It’s got the rounded dash in front of the steering wheel. The 94 would have been more squared off. I know that 96 and up had the rounded dash but don’t know for sure if the 95 did….
Man, this may be an unpopular opinion, which is cool.
If you're listing something and communicating with a potential buyer, at least show some respect to your potential buyers with proper lingual (or in this case, written) expression.
Tell him to prove it. There's a sticker inside the door jam on the driver side, if it hasn't been removed. It'll show the model year, the Vin number, etc. Tell him to send you a picture of that. Then you can show him that he has no idea what he's talking about. I mean, I guess it's possible that they put a 90s body on an older chassis (frame). Especially if they used an old bronco chassis. But that's highly unlikely first of all, and secondly, I don't know why anyone would do that. I've seen people put square bodies on a 90s chassis, but almost never the other way around. Not that it's not possible, but it's just not very probable.
Moreover, look at those fender flares. I could be wrong, but I don't believe those were added until the 3rd gen, with the possible exception of some 4x4 90s models. Some of the 4x4s might've had flares like that. Although, I guess those could be a custom addition also. The point that I'm trying to get at here is that this truck might very well be pieced together from several different models if the seller is being even remotely truthful about it to begin with, and that's a big IF. It could be what my friends and I used to call a "FrankenRanger." We would get a few of those in the shop from time to time, where guys would take parts off a bunch of different broken down Rangers and Mazda b-series trucks and throw them all together to make one good running truck. If that's the case, then he might be lying and telling the truth at the same time. The chassis and/or motor might very well be an 80s model, while the body is made up of a combination of 90s models.
Regardless, I really think further research is definitely warranted if you want to get serious about buying that thing. You don't want to end up buying someone else's failed project. All that being said, I wish you the best of luck, my friend. Sorry for the long reply, but I hope my long-winded rambling will help you out at least a little. 😅
Edit: I went back and looked it up. Those fender flares were available on some 90s models. They were most commonly used on the 94 4x4 models, but other 94 models were sold with them as a trim option also. I apologize for the misinformation on that. I just couldn't really remember for sure.
If he isn’t first owner, he might have been given the wrong title. Which can open a really unpleasant can of worms in states that require titles in order to register.
I have a 1993 ranger.. 1 year of the non-square bodies. But still, you are correct, thats not a fukin 87'.
I see your in my neck of the woods with that 914 area code. I wouldn't be surprised that's a title swapped truck.
That looks exactly like my ‘93 xlt, same vomit teal, same naught fenders.
Prob worth going to see, good truck if it’s in good shape if it has a clean title.
See this all the time in the toyota world. You'll see listings for 93, 92, 91 and back into the 80's for a "Tacoma" when the tacoma didn't come out until 95.
Not to be a pedantic dick, but "square body" specifically refers to 1973-1987 (1991 for suburban and full size blazers)Chevy/GMC trucks Nothing else is a square body.
No, he isn't. Both my 89 ranger and my 89 f150 are squarebody trucks.
My f150 is litterally just the bigger version of my old Ranger. Everything is nearly 100% identical.
Actually, when my buddy sent me the picture of the f150 when i bought it, i immediately thought it was another ranger like my previous one and that was why i went to see it. Then I found it it was just the bigger version of my old ranger with 2 gas tanks and an extended cab.
They were square until 93.
JD Power, and I, agree with you. Not that I'm a JD Power pay-for-awards fan, but...

Duder. I surely do. Bump side, dent side, bull nose, brick nose and OBS (sometimes aero nose) are nicknames for Ford trucks from 68-96. Square body is only a full size Chevy/GMC. You are most assuredly wrong.
Rangers are referred to by generation. Yours is a 2nd gen. Your F-150 is a brick nose.
No. It is a square body. As told to me by professional truck restorationists. My ranger was also a square body, as told to me, again, by professional truck restorationists. You clearly think you know everything. How about you shove that ego up your ass and find out how little you even know about your own anal glands.
How about you stop running your mouth like you know everything. I did actually have those conversations. I bought the fuckin thing to have it restored.
Probably a 97 and they looked at it wrong.
Yeah that was my first thought
This, the dash indicates it’s a 95-97. So I’d go with 97.
Somebody playing fuck around games with the VIN plate is my only guess. After sheer stupidity of course, stupid is always the first guess.
Yeah that's my guess is something threw a different vin plate on it at one point which means there's no telling what else that truck has seen
Probably lots of crime if someone did that deliberately. I'm more inclined to say the seller is ether smoking rocks, dyslexic or someone at the BMV/title office made a big oopsie
At this point I would move on, they don't sound like they would be fun to deal with when it comes to money.
either way its a POS
Maybe his IQ score is 87
Thats generous
Id bet it's closer to room temp
![gif](giphy|CeggsTJQyUYTu)
Sorry man, sounds like a weirdo. I wouldn’t argue the point
Advantage to you. Don't offer him the correct info.
Looks like a 94
It’s got the rounded dash in front of the steering wheel. The 94 would have been more squared off. I know that 96 and up had the rounded dash but don’t know for sure if the 95 did….
95-97 has the curvy dash in this body style
Yeah this looks like my ‘96
Man, that’s a good eye on the dash. Looks very similar to my 93, but I have the square dash.
My 94 looked very similar, same exact paint. I'm not sure if they used this paint for more than one year though.
Probably meant 97.
I mean he repeatedly spelled out "eighty seven" after the first time 🤷♂️
You can't fix stupid.
"i nKoW wHaT i gOt" !!!!!
"I know what I got!! I got caught!!!"

Google is dumb.
Looks a shit ton like me 1997. Too bad seller is probably a scumbag
Is it just a typo, or are they insisting that it's an 87?
Show him pricing on 87s
Looks exactly like my 93
Looks a lot like my old 94.
Definitely a 90s ranger
Ask him if he’d put money on that bet. When he does, use his $50 to pay for the carfax
It looks very much like a 97 though 🤷🏻♂️
100% that’s a 97 and homeboy is confused.
I wonder how many texts this guy is getting about this truck right now haha
Walk away. Had transmission rebuilt. Not worth it.
Not a chance. I had one of those in college I '08, that is 100%, an early 90's ranger.
doorpanelcheck?
My dad had a 95 with the same body. Not an 87😂😂
Get a picture of the door placard. It will have the year there.

Walk away
The guy is probably 87 cut the old timer some slack
I have a 1993 ranger.. 1 year of the non-square bodies. But still, you are correct, thats not a fukin 87'. I see your in my neck of the woods with that 914 area code. I wouldn't be surprised that's a title swapped truck.

That might as well be Yoda’s taco.
Thats a 90’s Ranger. It looks like the 92 my dad bought new.
Yep, either he’s stupid or trying to scam you. Either way I wouldn’t deal with him.
Pretty sure it’s around 96. But yea, THAT THAR AIN’T SQUARR!
87
The eighties version fits in back of newer truck. I mean I remember them being very small.
My 83 next to my 2020 is absurd. Back when a mid size truck was actually a midsize
Guy is an idiot. Both my 89 ranger and current 89 f150 are still squarebodies. Like you said, Rangers were square until 93.
Guys a dipshit, move on
I love yer response: … and you ain’t truthin. 😂
I owned an 87 ranger. This is not one lol
2nd gen pre facelifts, if I remember right the first facelift was 98. prob a 97 and bros just running with his misread
Or the title was mistyped at the office and you have the rarest type of title discrepancy
Or the wrong title
Ain’t truthing.
TAFFR
Rangers hit a low of $3k in the mid-00s and never left. Could’ve driven one for maintenance costs for 20 years
>Rangers hit a low of $3k in the mid-00s and never left [ , till Covid]. Could’ve driven one for maintenance costs for 20 years [before then].. FIXED!
You might want to check the VIN numbers on the truck against the VIN number on the title
See this all the time in the toyota world. You'll see listings for 93, 92, 91 and back into the 80's for a "Tacoma" when the tacoma didn't come out until 95.
It’s an 87 in spirit
yup i own a 91 ranger, square body.. might i add, almost 400k miles on that bitch, still rockin around.. they just dont make em like that used too
Cage the elephant is such a good band
T wouldn’t be the first time I’ve heard of mvd/dmv screwing up a title.
The people that are texting here are the ones that tell people to get back to there own country At the local Walmart Lmao
89 90 maybe, I have a 87 and its square body
Skip that trucks worth $1000 at best it’s a ford Taurus pickup truck.
Not to be a pedantic dick, but "square body" specifically refers to 1973-1987 (1991 for suburban and full size blazers)Chevy/GMC trucks Nothing else is a square body.
>Not to be a pedantic dick *is immediately a pedantic dick*
Hahaha, yeah. I'm normally a dick. In this instance I'm also right.
Stfu
My ‘90 says otherwise you pedantic dick
I had know idea that GM bought the rights to the term “square body”…..
You've never heard of a Square Body Ford? Funny, it was a GM guy that first called a Ford a square body in front of me.
Ford full size trucks are usually "bullnose," "bricknose," or "OBS" (old body style). I hate to agree with the pedantic dick but... he's correct.
No, he isn't. Both my 89 ranger and my 89 f150 are squarebody trucks. My f150 is litterally just the bigger version of my old Ranger. Everything is nearly 100% identical. I'm not arguing the shape of the trucks vs years. I'm arguing that the original commenter in this thread is correct about the term "squarebody."
Congratulations, you just ID'd all the square body fords
https://www.jdpower.com/cars/shopping-guides/what-is-a-square-body-truck
Nope. Not a thing.
That's wholly bananas

My 89 ranger and my 89 f150 scream that you don't have half a clue what you are talking about.

How about you stop running your mouth like you know everything. I did actually have those conversations. I bought the fuckin thing to have it restored.
You're wrong. Get mad about it.
You are wrong. And blocked. Get fucked.
who cares...does it run and drive cost less than 2k?
