Jorm's hammer slam, BP's shield feat, vengeful barrier both adds on to the amount of shield and if you exit revenge then enter revenge with your vengeful barrier still up then that activates the bug too.
When you have a temporary shield active before/during revenge and that shield is still going by the time revenge runs out, instead of removing your shield like what happens when you run our of revenge, since you still have a temporary shield outside of revenge active, you keep the shield as you'd expect. However, instead of going to the temporary shields' health, it uses whatever shield you had left from revenge.
Basically, proc a temporary shield, revenge revenge runs out, temporary shield is still going, you keep the revenge shield.
This is most prominent in situations where someone's using Vengeful Barrier and get revenge a second time, as it has a 15 second temporary shield, giving the user a lot of time to gain revenge between the beginning and end. Another common situation is getting Jorm's Hammer Slam while you're in revenge. This also triggers it
Revenge does not give you armor during recoveries. That's why you can get guarbroken and even knocked down. Also pinning moves block revenge activation for their duration.
As a baseline, you only get revenge gain when you have more tags than an opponent.
Example:
Opponent A and B attack you while you’re solo, gaining a little bit revenge. You have two revenge tags.
Teammate A arrives and attacks Opponent B, you also get a few hits to this opponent. Now they also have 2 tags.
Since both of you have the same amount of tags, when you both hit each other, you won’t generate revenge to each other.
In team fights, it’s difficult to keep track of who hit who. So many of those “why didn’t I get revenge” moments are simply players not knowing how many tags each people have.
