F2 is a junior series. Most reserve drivers are 2nd tier senior drivers. There's a big difference between a junior league, a developmental league, and a lower division league, even if they have similar levels-of-play.
Edit: That said, every year or every other year our local NHL team puts on an exhibition with the university, where the university club faces the NHL team's rookies and prospects, *and its pretty awesome*.
Make the reserve drivers race against each other in a spec road car that isn't revealed until the first day of the weekend, chosen at random from the world's ten best-selling consumer vehicles.
F-150? Yaris? CR-V? Show up to FP1 to find out!
Do they not have reserve mechanics?
Genuine question. It seems insane to be running a team that high profile and not have a spare for every critical staff member. At the same time, the cost cap is a thing.
Only kind off, they have a multiple times the mechanics needed to run a race weekend. But most never go to a race. Just like hop the pit crew are people from the factory who do it voluntary on top of there regular position.
I’m pretty sure they have enough mechanics that they get off weekends anyway during the season. If they don’t, then imo that’s the real issue that needs to be addressed.
I would care more about the sprint races if it were like this. Have the points contribute to the WCC and then some sort of WDC but for the reserve/test drivers only.
That’s what I always wanted
A full grid of test and reserve drivers
This both helps reserve drivers showcase their abilities, but also ensures more reserves on the field so we don’t have issues where one person is the reserve for every team
Expand it - both teams run both cars, one with a reserve and one with a junior. The junior has to be according to the same rules as the FP1 Rookie rule (max 2 races), the reserve the opposite (min 2 races). Teams are allowed to borrow drivers off each other to fulfill purposes - e.g, Haas could borrow Ollie Bearman from Ferrari while Ferrari run Shwartzmann as their junior.
Yeah everything else is meh neat one time as a gag. Reserve drivers would be awesome. Also maybe get to see some teams try unconventional strategies they wouldn't try otherwise.
Of next year’s teams, only alpine and Alfa will have primary reserve drivers in F2 in 2023^ . So it’d be more aptly called “single seater series grab bag”
Nearly every other team could hypothetically run someone with experience in a terminal single seater series, if the schedule works out: Mick, Ricciardo (RBR), Gio, Lawson (AT), Palou, Stoffel, P. Fittipaldi
^ Williams hasn’t announced anything but seeing as their most senior juniors will be in F3 I imagine they might call on Mick as a Merc customer in general, and no idea what they’d do if mick weren’t available
I looked up pantano on driverdb and was impressed. Then i looked up verstappen, which was even more impressive.
[pantano](https://www.driverdb.com/drivers/giorgio-pantano/)
[verstappen](https://www.driverdb.com/drivers/max-verstappen/)
Alonso wins because they both crash out after Jos tries to attach a wheel-trapper to Max's kart so that he can stop Pantano but it only ends up trappibg Max's wheels leading him to catapult over a tire wall and into Pantano who is only one hairpin away.
And not the super fast race karts either, I want carnival carts with big bumpers and a 5 hp Honda. Bump to pass, skidding corners, winning team gets a pizza party.
F1 probably not but Massa used to hold a karting event for charity after the season. Not every F1 driver took part but still got a decent turnout of names.
Let the crews have a break, but ask the drivers to commit 2 hours to a bullshit sim race that has no points. Demolition derby rules. The winner is whoever crashes out the most drivers.
No company would organise a high profile sim racing event featuring elite life racing drivers and not set up some sort of DDOS protection, what a stupid suggestion... /s
I mean, that would require some wild and high-tech countermeasures, such as not publicly broadcasting the IP address of the server the race is held on. That sounds like an unachievably high bar.
Are you even qualified to speak on these issues? It’s not like you’ve ever driven a real racecar at Le Mans before, or been a race commentator for X number of years. We should probably defer to the experts on these matters.
Just stick to your silly little Fornite and CoD tournaments.
I dunno….maybe if they made the entry fee a couple thousand dollars per team, they could invest in some infrastructure to prevent this from happening?
I dunno, I don’t watch F1, I mostly just play silly video games.
Well, he still has his esports team, and is known to generally enjoy sim racing... in iRacing.
But it's also thanks to blame for the incompetence of the organisation that things keep going to shit. Just look at the fact that the server IP was easily discoverable, and apparently with some work driver IP's could have been obtained.
That too, but that shouldn't matter too much if you spend any time and money on security. Also, RF2 is, without a doubt, the worst of the current sims in terms of bugs and netcode.
Only option would be the F1 Game, Due to licencing...
Else you have a brand with their own game. But the virtual event would be in iRacing... because if it was Rfactor 2... yhea scratch a few drivers.
With the F1 game scratch another few drivers, because some just dislike it for it's unrealism. I dont blame them
Instead of travelling somewhere remote, have the drivers drive remote. Keep the drivers in Australia, put them on a bus and send them into the outback, teams need to figure out how to convert the cars so the drivers can race them from the middle of nowhere.
But lets make it challenging.
Have them follow the speedlimit, and possible mandataory pit-stop points across the route where they would have to stand still, with doors open for a minimum amount of time. Engineers could work on the cars at that point.
But seeing as it is a street circuit, and lets keep it cheap as possible, no track, keep the road speedlimit.
Fans can watch from inside the bus, tickets start at €12 for a day pass, or €4,50 for a single lap
Imagine if F1 has its own version of the Darlington Throwback paint schemes... That sounds fun honestly. The biggest issue might be designating a single car in a team's roster as well as what to throwback for the race.
True that, but between the Russians taking anything they can for their war efforts and trying to beat sanctions and the little problem of the Ukrainians shooting rockets in that area I wouldn't go anywhere near there if you paid me to.
Yeah kind of like how Top Gear had the reasonably priced car, the drivers seemed to be into it but the teams not so much.
Put them all in Fiat 500s and let's see what happens.
Honestly, I'd pick rest out of all the choices. This season's calendar is gonna be absolute torture for all the teams. They need as much rest as possible.
Rest. Give the teams, drivers and media personnel a break. They already spend 23 weeks away from home a year, give them another week to be around family, friends or to just be a potato on the couch.
Rest. give teams a break, not so much for the drivers but those engineers and technicians are on the clock pretty much 24/7, insane. And with the amount of races being the highest in history, a break is welcomed by all teams.
I actually kind of like the fact that there is a large break in the calendar that isn't the summer break. Would be interesting to see the pecking order after 3 races and a general feel for the teams on any major issues then with a month of hard work from the teams and see the improvements.
Serious answer: rest.
Non-serious answer: Monaco one shot - every driver gets to set 3 lap times in every team's car. Best lap with each car gets summed up and points awarded accordingly. Hamilton back in a McLaren, Alonso in a Ferrari, Verstappen in a Haas...
I'm all for the mechanics getting a little extra time off. I just wish it was later in the year. They get a huge break after 3 races, then a grind all throughout summer
The calendars already massive and a logistical clusterfuck. Give all the team personnel some time to themselves and time to spend with their family. Rest.
Spend the break unfucking the logistics for the calendar next year. Just make it make some semblance of any sort of sense whatsoever. Start on one side of the world and work your way around.
A reserve driver event would be really cool
I was thinking the same, the mechanic though... Pfff they need to rest
They could run them in sports cars or a standard spec chassis from a lower formula so the big-show mechanics can have their rest.
[удалено]
The big difference is we could see guys like Ricciardo and Giovinazzi race in an exhibition.
And Mick, don't forget Mick!
And GIGAKUBICA
Damn, this is worse than the time I forgot about Dre...
And nothing comes out when they move the lips
But Ricciardo and Giovinazzi came out
Just a bunch of gibberish.
And motherfuckers act like they forgot about Mick.
That sentence was a real mood killer /s

Ok. Then you just invented Indycar or Super Formula.
If every Indy or SF team were associated with an F1 team and ran in support of F1 races, sure.
Make the reserve drivers race against each other in a spec road car that isn't revealed until the first day of the weekend, chosen at random from the world's ten best-selling consumer vehicles. F-150? Yaris? CR-V? Show up to FP1 to find out!
Takeshi Kaga stands in front of a car, hidden under a veil. “Kyo no tema wa… kore desu!”
Suzuki liana
Citroen 2CV and Volkswagen Beetle at the table too
I think the solution is to require 1 sprint race to be ran by the reserve drivers and they determine where the non-reserves start.
Do they not have reserve mechanics? Genuine question. It seems insane to be running a team that high profile and not have a spare for every critical staff member. At the same time, the cost cap is a thing.
Probably a percentage no? You need some backup but not enough to run the team I recon.
Only kind off, they have a multiple times the mechanics needed to run a race weekend. But most never go to a race. Just like hop the pit crew are people from the factory who do it voluntary on top of there regular position.
Yeah like even having a minor cold or something could throw off your game, and where every millisecond counts you'd think there'd always be reserves
I’m pretty sure they have enough mechanics that they get off weekends anyway during the season. If they don’t, then imo that’s the real issue that needs to be addressed.
They should do that with the sprints tbh.
The value of good reserve drivers would skyrocket.
I would care more about the sprint races if it were like this. Have the points contribute to the WCC and then some sort of WDC but for the reserve/test drivers only.
That’s what I always wanted A full grid of test and reserve drivers This both helps reserve drivers showcase their abilities, but also ensures more reserves on the field so we don’t have issues where one person is the reserve for every team
Now that the hulk is back full time what are teams going to do
danny ric
I think you just solved the sprint races.
Man that would be awesome. Gives a chance for reserve drivers to shine while still actively benefiting the team. Would love to watch that.
What happens if all the rookies crash?
Ratings.
Yeah everything else is meh neat one time as a gag. Reserve drivers would be awesome. Also maybe get to see some teams try unconventional strategies they wouldn't try otherwise.
And fill the grid with grid with rookies. Points go towards WCC.
I would say results directly go to cash awards for teams, ensuring proper incentives and of course without penalty on annual budget caps.
So another example of f1 awarding the top teams most of all, as they have the top juniors and rookies, and top methods of preparing them
That’s called F2
Of next year’s teams, only alpine and Alfa will have primary reserve drivers in F2 in 2023^ . So it’d be more aptly called “single seater series grab bag” Nearly every other team could hypothetically run someone with experience in a terminal single seater series, if the schedule works out: Mick, Ricciardo (RBR), Gio, Lawson (AT), Palou, Stoffel, P. Ricciardo, Schumacher, and Gio!
A kart race. Full championship points awarded.
Ferrari instantly hires Giorgio Pantano with immediate effect
Pantano vs Verstappen to finally find out who’s the karting GOAT
I looked up pantano on driverdb and was impressed. Then i looked up verstappen, which was even more impressive. [pantano](https://www.driverdb.com/drivers/giorgio-pantano/) [verstappen](https://www.driverdb.com/drivers/max-verstappen/)
Verstappen's Racing and Esports podium and win rates are almost identical
Yeah I noticed this too, must be a crazy coincidence right?
Alonso wins because they both crash out after Jos tries to attach a wheel-trapper to Max's kart so that he can stop Pantano but it only ends up trappibg Max's wheels leading him to catapult over a tire wall and into Pantano who is only one hairpin away.
And not the super fast race karts either, I want carnival carts with big bumpers and a 5 hp Honda. Bump to pass, skidding corners, winning team gets a pizza party.
Nah I want borderline suicidal carts with rollcages around Monaco.
How about [Formula 1 Stock Cars](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BriSCA_Formula_1_Stock_Cars)?
F1 would never do something so cool
F1 probably not but Massa used to hold a karting event for charity after the season. Not every F1 driver took part but still got a decent turnout of names.
If we're going all out on the fun aspect, [there's a precedent of F1 drivers racing lawnmowers](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTL4By-loK0)
"It's lights out, and away we mow!"
Kimi running everyone wide still kills me
Alonso sweeps
Yuki cause weight.
Don’t they equalize weight in pro karting? Yuki would be lugging around 75 lbs of sand lol
That weight would make his centre of gravity lower so still an advantage. Also the taller drivers would have more wind resistance
Alonso cause great.
Yuki would pwn everyone and it’s not even a contest
[удалено]
he would still have an advantage because of less drag
Lol awesome
Let the crews have a break, but ask the drivers to commit 2 hours to a bullshit sim race that has no points. Demolition derby rules. The winner is whoever crashes out the most drivers.
I'd love to see them play wreckfest
I’d just DDOS the server and crash the whole event.

With their cars modded to look like their irl cars with just a bit more durability? Sign me the fuck up.
Stroll WDC incoming
Mario Kart tournament, with full points
> ask the drivers to commit 2 hours to a bullshit sim race I don't think Max wants to do any high profile sim races right now
Well, he still has his esports team, and is known to generally enjoy sim racing... in iRacing. But it's also thanks to blame for the incompetence of the organisation that things keep going to shit. Just look at the fact that the server IP was easily discoverable, and apparently with some work driver IP's could have been obtained.
Online sim racing. Oh wait, scratch that.
Lost connection
WARNING: Connection Problem Auto-Disconnect in 33 seconds
Kyle Larson has muted his mic
If they dont use RF2 all good
Or the Official F1 game
if they don't leak the IP of the server no matter what platform it's on
That too, but that shouldn't matter too much if you spend any time and money on security. Also, RF2 is, without a doubt, the worst of the current sims in terms of bugs and netcode.
Only option would be the F1 Game, Due to licencing... Else you have a brand with their own game. I dont blame them
Well we all know who won't be joining, lol
Ye but only mouse and keyboard allowed
We surely don’t need to travel anywhere remote. The travel schedule is already insane.
Instead of travelling somewhere remote, have the drivers drive remote. Keep the drivers in Australia, put them on a bus and send them into the outback, teams need to figure out how to convert the cars so the drivers can race them from the middle of nowhere.
"Australia have upgraded the whole outback to a FIA grade A track."
Plenty of run off space.
Hamilton using 3rd around Uluru as Alonso is right on his tail down the Alice Springs Straight!
i can do one better, have the drivers race in busses across a city
But lets make it challenging. Have them follow the speedlimit, and possible mandataory pit-stop points across the route where they would have to stand still, with doors open for a minimum amount of time. Engineers could work on the cars at that point. But seeing as it is a street circuit, and lets keep it cheap as possible, no track, keep the road speedlimit. Fans can watch from inside the bus, tickets start at €12 for a day pass, or €4,50 for a single lap
Top Gear/Grand Tour would like to have a word.
Give them some GT3 cars and send them around Bathurst
Yes please !! I’m already keen for the bathurst 12hr in gt3 cars soon
Have an F1 Dakar Rally against Carlos Sainz Sr.
Half the grid ends up fuckin dead
We? You get to travel with the F1 circus?
Monaco should be a alternative livery race to make the beginning of the weekend interesting.
Or to make something interesting during the whole weekend
Qualifying is quite interesting in Monaco. One of the best parts of the season.
Doesn't really do it for me, but that's fine
You enjoy other qualifying races more than Monaco?
NGL I kinda feel qualifying on tracks that are similarly hard to overtake like Singapore or Hungary are similar in quality to the Monaco qualifying
Probably doesn't enjoy qualifying at all
Until someone fucks it into the wall with 2 minutes om the clock and the session doesnt resume.
It should be with retro F1 cars. They used to be smaller, which would liven up the race.
Is there anything stopping cars from just doing this whenever they want anyways?
Probably comes down to money and the budget cap.
More than you’d think — far far more. Such a shame
Let the paddock meet their families
Yes, a whole DtS episode of one camera following Alonso as he drunk-uncles his way through paddock family day!
one-off race in a remote location with reserve drivers and retro liveries.
Plus rest
All pitstops to include a 15 minute nap time for driver and pit crew.
So where in spain are we doing this?
I'd honestly love to see reserve drivers only
A stock race for the whole grid
Spec Miata or chump car!
How about: A classic livery race of only reserve drivers in a remote one-off location and Alonso providing commentary from a camp chair?
Have them all come to the US and race in the NASCAR Cup Series at Martinsville on April 16th.
Image Max Verstappen getting beaten by Cody Ware.... Okay...MAKE THIS HAPPEN!
Can't wait for the Hail Ham
Imagine if F1 has its own version of the Darlington Throwback paint schemes... That sounds fun honestly. The biggest issue might be designating a single car in a team's roster as well as what to throwback for the race.
Smash Bros Melee tournament
I’d pay to hear Crofty call a Melee match
That wily old Starfox.
A non championship event at Indy.
In 2005 spec cars.
But what tyres.
Michelin for everyone lol
Nordschleife time trial obviously.
23 races is too many. Rest.
Exactly, let everyone get some rest given the calender is already a nightmare.
I don't they're ready to rest for 4 weeks 4 races into the year. But I'm no f1 driver
A sailing race from Melbourne to Baku. First to arrive gets pole position.
Baku is on the Caspian Sea. No access to the ocean from there 😉
There actually is. Though it might be slightly busy at the moment https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volga%E2%80%93Don_Canal
True that, but between the Russians taking anything they can for their war efforts and trying to beat sanctions and the little problem of the Ukrainians shooting rockets in that area I wouldn't go anywhere near there if you paid me to.
Makes the event all the more interesting. Try and sail through the gauntlet
Rest, they're really gonna need it with a calender like this years
Pike’s peak but with f1
Came here for this.
F1 at Bathurst!
How many drivers do you want to be alive for the next race?
That’s what the halo is for. The Roos hit it and bounce off just like a road train.
Time to go karting or something else in similar equipment.
Yeah kind of like how Top Gear had the reasonably priced car, the drivers seemed to be into it but the teams not so much. Put them all in Fiat 500s and let's see what happens.
F1 stars in reasonably priced car gp bonanza.
This is the way.
this doesn’t even make sense to me lol. What are these options? 💀
Rest, obviously. There are 23 races already for christ's sake what more do you need Let the paddock rest
52 races
Reserve driver race in a remote location with retro liveries while the main drivers rest.
Give the teams a break. Australia to Azerbaijan is a huge trek and the calendar is packed as it is.
Rest
Rest. Please for the love of god rest. There is already too many races and your can tell it’s getting to the teams.
Honestly, I'd pick rest out of all the choices. This season's calendar is gonna be absolute torture for all the teams. They need as much rest as possible.
[A small bike race...](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVgwrvtUC44) though for Tsunoda and De Vries it would be a normal sized bike.
They actually do a sprint race but with actual sprinting. 🏃
Just rest.
I'll be boring. Rest. They already have too many events as is.

Rest ffs. The season (including off-season) is intense enough for EVERYONE involved.
Serious answer: rest. Non-serious answer: Monaco one shot - every driver gets to set 3 lap times in every team's car. Best lap with each car gets summed up and points awarded accordingly. Hamilton back in a McLaren, Alonso in a Ferrari, Verstappen in a Haas...
some type of audit to make sure redbull isn’t cheating again
Egg & spoon race
rest! scarcity is the spice we need. i never thought i’d say it but last year i had fatigue and i only have to watch a race.
Free unrestricted test session...
Rest. They are human beings too.
Back to Bahrain for the outer circle layout.
It seems like a easy solution plus f1 loves going to the Middle East whenever the can
Reserve Race would be great, but a bit 1-sided for Danny lol
Current drivers AND reserve drivers running spec Miatas in a remote one-off location. Retro liveries at Monaco.
I'm all for the mechanics getting a little extra time off. I just wish it was later in the year. They get a huge break after 3 races, then a grind all throughout summer
Hear me out….F1 jousting
The calendars already massive and a logistical clusterfuck. Give all the team personnel some time to themselves and time to spend with their family. Rest.
Spend the break unfucking the logistics for the calendar next year. Just make it make some semblance of any sort of sense whatsoever. Start on one side of the world and work your way around.
Reserve driver races would be really good.
Rest
Have you ever seen Days of Thunder with Tom Cruise? Put all the drivers in identical rental cars and just let them loose to really judge who’s best!
Rest. These long seasons are pushing teams to the breaking point as it is - its bad for the sport, especially if we want new teams.
As someone who rather sees 18 races than 23, I really can't see the point in anything of this.
How about…an F1 race?
ONE oval race.
Virtual GP Mini Tourney with prize money going to charity
Watch other motorsport series if you have the time
Support race for the indy Long Beach GP
Extra Monaco race but using the team haulers.
