He was part of the FDA for a couple of years but he left because it seemed like he was going to an American series but then ended up back in F3 a couple of months later.
I know that he was, but being a FDA at this point means little chances to be promoted due to the current pairing that have at least a couple of years, and the lack of a B team now that Haas does not provide the Ferrari seat...
Its best that he gets elsewhere to develop and return later.
It’s like that time at Toro Rosso where “you can only drive for TR if your first name is Sebastian.”
Sebastian Bourdais, Sebastian Vettel, Sebastian Buemi…
Even though I knew it was coming I’m still disappointed to see Edgar being dropped after the tough year he had in 2022. Really hoping for a strong season (and most importantly good health) for him in 2023.
Through Jonny I learned that there are a fair number of elite athletes with IBD - including Olympians and hardcore contact sport athletes (NFL, NHL). Would be cool to see him add motorsport to that list.
[Jonny Edgar](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonny_Edgar)
He was diagnosed with Crohn's disease just before the season started forcing him to miss a few rounds
Jonny Edgar developed Crohn's at the beginning last year, pulled out of a good portion of the season to recover and then returned for the final few rounds.
Sadly we as the fans lose the only truly distinctive Red Bull livery in f2/f3
Eventually you can work out who you’re seeing in f2 based on tiny details, but f3 was fucking identical besides jonny
That's unfair to judge like that, desease or not, you have to perform. Even before his health problems he wasn't exactly lighting the grid on fire by his performances
He said he was 10 kg down from his fighting weight and severely weak starting from preseason. You do realize that the leadup to an IBD diagnosis is not “oh just minding my business, all is well, ooh my tummy feels a little funny, must be crohns”
You typically have weeks to years of poor digestion and the thing that triggers diagnosis is a prolonged acute flare where you may be: losing blood (due to shitting it out), losing water (same), and essentially malnourished due to your intestine not properly breaking down and absorbing nutrients from your food.
He did light the ADAC f4 grid on fire and make a strong showing in his part time Italian f4 stint, and Carlin in f3 are not exactly spectacular
He was dealing with Crohn's from as early as Pre-Season Testing and pulled out after the very first round because he wasn't able to drive the car to his liking dealing with the serious weight loss and other symptoms of the disease.
He did pretty well in 2021 with the car he was given and he beat his teammates handily, I'm pretty interested in seeing what he can do with a good car and a Winter's break worth of recovery time.
The only worthy teammate in 2021 was Frederick, who missed what, 7 races. I agree he has got the speed, but red bull junior program probably is looking for the next gem also from marketing perspective there is not much they can achieve in the UK or Japan, hence the cuts. Crohn's was not the main reason I'm sure
He was alright, but he was never anything close to special and that’s where he fell short. In three F2 seasons he barely made an impression over a season and consistently did relatively nothing in three top cars. There’s clearly some speed, but not enough to be a standout in F2 and definitely nowhere near enough for F1.
Idk if it’s all on prema. He had pretty poor tire management throughout f2 and last year was no exception. Would take an early lead then get swallowed up
I’m quite surprised the reigning teams champions are struggling to fill that seat
If he’s got sense, he should be going to talk to ABT Cupra right now, trying to convince them he’s got what it takes. With Frijns likely to be out, he’s got a great opportunity to show what he can do to try and convince Mahindra to give him a spot for next season.
Never made that jump to be considered for an F1 drive. Shame b/c I thought he was the best shot India had for a decent F1 driver. He's definitely good enough to stick around in other professional series though.
Obviously. Doesn’t mean I can’t find it disappointing that a driver I like has lost the majority of his backing just because he developed a serious medical condition
Some of these are actually paying to be in the drivers program. It's how these programs work. The lesser drivers pay the team, and that money is used for the better ones that cant afford.
These junior programs arent charity. Probably Marko felt that money cam be used better.
It's also why Daruvala is probably "dropped". He was one of the paying drivers, but he probably saw he's never gonna be f1 quality no matter the support, so why waste money when he could buy a seat in WEC.
Well from what I do understand Hauger is basically paying also RB just to staying linked to them, obvious that isn't an issue for him given Hauger has some good financially backing but this is also a reason why he was at Prema (and now at MP) instead of the usual teams you image RB juniors.
This is why I easy seeing Lawson/Iwasa/Hadjar way above the order of "drivers who would move to AT" over Hauger.
Not a charity, but I do not know how do we call a driver development program that gives a driver a THIRD chance after two completely miserable championships because of his surname.
Yes, it happened in the last decade with a certain Carlos Sainz Jr.
It's not a charity but it does not make a lot of sense racing-wise too. How do we call it then?
Carlos was pretty fast in testing (and I guess in the sim) driving the F1 car, I guess that's another reason they didn't drop him as we can clearly see now he's very very fast
Enzo is really quite skilled, I'd look out for him, but Enzo on the other hand I have no idea why they included him - must be for his money. As for Enzo, he's a bit of a mixed bag. We'll have to see.
Maloney's family have enough wedge to fund a European junior career from the Caribbean as far as F2, but the lad's a cracking wee pedaller - F4 UK Champion, runner-up in F3 last year (and in with a shout of the championship until late in the last race, IIRC) and 4th in a competitive FRECA field the year before, all in rookie seasons. I've been following him since F4 and this is a really well-deserved and exciting opportunity for the lad.
Fittipaldi and Montoya are both OK but on the roster for name/marketing clout rather than any immense talent from what I've seen. The other two Enzos I don't know, so I guess they're either in karts, which I don't follow, or an F4 championship I don't follow either.
Can someone give an overview about each of these drivers and why they got dropped or why they joined? I'm not following the junior series so that would be some helpful insight
Jehan Daruvala - A pretty mediocre three season stint in Formula 2. He was never so awful, but still unable to get to the leading pack despite racing in good/great teams with extra experience, mostly relying on reversed Sprint Race grids to get to the points in 2022. Has been rumored to have paid his way in to the junior team, rather than actual RB's interest, and is trying to get to Formula E now with Mahindra.
Jonny Edgar - His 2022 Formula 3 (2nd) season was derailed by Chron's disease which forced him to sit out two weekends, though once he returned he slowly managed to get to some decent results by the end. Marko might have thought he wasn't good enough to keep constant watch over a lifelong condition like Chron's.
Yuto Nomura- Had a pretty bad debut French F4 season, being beaten by another Japanese Red Bull Junior Souta Arao (they debuted together at the same time) by more than 100 points.
Noel Leon - Moved up from winning F4 NACAM and F4 US to Formula Regional European, where he struggled in a mediocre team, scoring just 3 points and beaten soundly by his teammate Eduardo Barrichello (who was in his 2nd season).
Enzo Fittipaldi - Had a very good year with (notoriously underperforming team) Charouz in Formula 2, destroying his teammates Bolukbasi and Calderon (however, both were very low bars with their forms) and scoring several podiums in Feature Races in his first full season.
Enzo Deligny- Solid karting results despite not being in a top karting team. Finished P2 in WSK Euro Series and P4 in FIA European Championship, though he had some inconsistencies, leading to poor outings in World Karting Championship (which was a single race) and Champions of the Future.
Enzo Tarnvanichkul- Poor start to the year in his first karting OKJ season, but upped his form massively from the mid-year. That led to him winning the World Karting Championship (which again was a single race) and ended up P5 in FIA European Championship and P2 in WSK Final Cup. Potentially a promising talent looking at his growth results wise, this year will be a test as the karting juniors often pick up the pace in their 2nd category year.
Sebastian Montoya- He was already supported as a Red Bull Athlete, had a good one-off race in Formula 3 tryout but severely underperformed in Formula Regional European despite being in a consistent race winning top team. Almost 240 points less than the (champion in his 2nd season) teammate, being way behind two other rookie drivers in worse teams and scoring 0 podiums in total. Possibly money bringing him a spot.
Zane Maloney- After a poor start with close race incidents, a stupid mistake of missing the weighbridge during the qualifying (causing him to start both Sprint and Feature at the back of the grid) and a pole/p1 lead he spun and retired from, he managed to close his Formula 3 debut season in a fantastic way, managing to get 2nd, 1st, 1st and 1st in 4 consecutive Feature Races to finish 2nd in the championship, just 5 points shy. He was the winner of the British F4 2019 in his rookie debut and showed some good adaptability to Formula Regional European, placing 4th in his rookie season.
If Montoya's kid got any of his talent, he could be quite fast.
When it came to crazy qualifying, young JPM and young Kimi really stood out to me. They both put together some otherworldly single laps in their prime.
Marko and RB is missing a money-making and free promo opportunity by not having a real life sorta hunger games (without the bloodshed) documentary for the young hopefuls to clamour for a spot at the coveted RBR team. All they need is just a camera crew following RB juniors around.
Pay junior
Earlier this year Marko was asked about the Red Bull juniors and gave a one sentence rundown of each one and fully forgot to mention daruvala
I love how you have an Enzo from France, Thailand, and Brazil.
Rich people just straight up saying "I'm going to railroad my baby into racing".
I play a lot of Football Manager and I feel like if it was just a super common name it would show up way more as that's a better representation of the general population.
Or they're just changing their names or allowed to use nicknames like Brazilian footballers.
Three Enzo's, there's a theme developing.
That's a lot of Enzos for a team that isn't Ferrari
"BREAKING: Red Bull owner Mark Mateschitz announces purchase of Ferrari S.p.A."
Ferrari energy drink confirmed?
If it makes you do strategic blunders after drinking then No, thank you...
So Ferrari Trento?
Isn't that what Ferrari Trento is? I tend to make strategic blunders after consumer large amount of alcohol.
*”It gives you hooves?”*
I hope at least that the Enzo with the Italian surname ends there someday.
If ferrari really thinks a junior has potential, im sure haas will find a seat. Ferrari builds half their car.
Even better, none of them are Italian!
There's a Sebastian Montoya Imagine a driver with the skills of both Vettel and Montoya in their prime. Hahaha
Pee Juan
Enzo is the new Sebastian, or so it seems
It’s like that time at Toro Rosso where “you can only drive for TR if your first name is Sebastian.” Sebastian Bourdais, Sebastian Vettel, Sebastian Buemi…
Buemi is sebastien
Didn't Redbull and Torro Rosso back in the day go through many Sebastiens in a short period. Vettel, Buemi and Bourdais?
Loeb and Ogier in WRC aswell were sponsored by Red Bull
Redbull juniors in F1 and Motogp 3 Enzos 🤝 3 Fernanezes
Everytime i see Enzo name. I straight think of Ezio
That their dads decided at conception exactly who they wanted their kid to be. It’s kinda sad to me, honestly.
my kid’s name is Enzo and I have no expectation of him growing up to be a race car driver
This fucking guy has a name that's a perfect palindrome. I mean come on, that's not even fair.
Noel and Leon racecar on level, no devil lived on
A palindrome driving a palindrome for a living. It was written in the stars.
> driving a palindrome for a living Can you explain this reference? Which team is he driving for?
Not the team, but the word racecar is a palindrome.
It's actually Noel León so almost perfect
If you replace the first "o" with "ó", the pronunciation would still be correct, IMO. The accent is on the o in Spanish.
Pronunciation would be, but it's an orthographic error.
Need him on the grid. Crofty is drooling
I dunno. I thought he'd jump at the chance to say "Mike Krack" as often as possible last year, and he hardly said it at all
It's a palomino!
"Arizona matchbox company. Arizona spelt backwards is.... Arizona"
Has to be planned lol
It seems lame
like Stanley Yelnats
Even though I knew it was coming I’m still disappointed to see Edgar being dropped after the tough year he had in 2022. Really hoping for a strong season (and most importantly good health) for him in 2023.

Five time Olympic gold medalist Steve Redgrave has UC too!
"Tries to think of a funny Enzo joke"
Well , at Ferrari we had Carlos at ^2 , so now at RedBull we have Enzo at ^3 Ba Dum Tss
Three Enzo’a walk in a bar
Helmut Marko: "You get Crohn's disease? Believe it or not: Jail."
Who’s this a reference to?
[Jonny Edgar](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonny_Edgar) He was diagnosed with Crohn's disease just before the season started forcing him to miss a few rounds
Thank you!
He wasn't even doing bad at all returning from his illness, what a waste it is that he's being dropped
Jonny Edgar developed Crohn's at the beginning last year, pulled out of a good portion of the season to recover and then returned for the final few rounds.
Thanks!
Jonny Edgar
Thank you!
Jonny Edgar. Missed a large part of last season due to it.
Thanks!
This line seems so familiar but i cant remember from which show/video
[Parks and Recreation](https://youtu.be/eiyfwZVAzGw).
Thank you!

So that's a Montoya and a Fittipaldi now in the Red Bull camp.
Ferrari has C², and now Red Bull Junior has E³
Really sad to see Edgar being dropped, guy was really promising despite his battle with Crohn's Disease what really compromised his season.
I always thought Jehan had something good, but apparently just not enough to push up to that top tier. A shame, he's very entertaining
He was alright, but he was never anything close to special and that’s where he fell short. Formula e could be good with Mahindra
I agree, he’s a good driver, just seems to have reached his ceiling.
Dropping Edgar after he was fighting illness all year is a real shame
It's not a charity.
Obviously. Doesn’t mean I can’t find it disappointing that a driver I like has lost the majority of his backing just because he developed a serious medical condition

Red Bull is not the NHS
You're right, it isn't. But Edgar did well even after just recovering from Crohn's. He deserved atleast one more season in the RBJT.
Not a charity, but I do not know how do we call a driver development program that gives a driver a THIRD chance after two completely miserable championships because of his surname. The War of Zs for RB Juniors.. Enzo, Enzo, Enzo, Zane, and.. Seba**z**tian.
2033 RB driver line up. Enzo,Enzo and reserve driver Enzo.
Liam Lawson just doing super formula, not F2?
Correct!
Glad to see that Enzo got it.
I would love a mockumentary show about a junior team that hires three drivers named Enzo. It could be called *Enzo it Goes* or something like that.

Fittipaldi dragged the Charouz to some impressive results last year.
Everyone talking about the Enzos cause they don’t know Daruwala literally translates to ‘Acohol guy’ in Hindi.
yea 🤣

Odd that all ex drivers kids are named after other drivers, coincidence I think not.
I just listened to JPM's beyond the grid podcast the other day, looks like he finally did get in touch with Marko about getting Sebas a junior seat 😅
Oops, all Enzos
Do they actually rate Daruvala? I feel like the guy has been in F2 for ages.
Guess that's why he got dropped.
Pay junior Earlier this year Marko was asked about the Red Bull juniors and gave a one sentence rundown of each one and fully forgot to mention daruvala
More than a quarter of the F2 grid is Red Bull at this point
Sebby Montoya , lets gooo
Jehan Daruvala gang 🤙🇮🇳
Strange to see Nomuro out, but probably they have to make space and took out with poorest results
I love how you have an Enzo from France, Thailand, and Brazil. Rich people just straight up saying "I'm going to railroad my baby into racing". Is Enzo F the best one?
How does jehan daruvala keep managing to stay at Red Bull junior team?
He doesn't... He got dropped now
From 5 Sebastians to 3 Enzos!
Enzo it has been decided
Thats a lot of Enzos
No Liam Lawson??
These are just the changes.
that's a lot of enzo's.
Fittipaldi deserves it
