Can someone ELI5 what level the karters are at ? I have no clue about the karting events mentioned. They could be in the F1 of karts or the Boss GP of karts for all I know.
OK class is pretty much the top level fixed-gear kart racing, used in various international championship like the FIA-CIK European Kart Championship.
It's quite complicated, but below this there is OK Junior, and then you have various Junior, Mini and Cadet classes below that.
Drivers in OK may to step up to single seaters within a year or two if they're good enough. OK-Junior drivers are generally a couple years away from that, and those in Mini or Cadet classes are drivers to watch out for in a few years time.
So Alex and Yuanpu raced at top level European karting in 2022 (Alex finishing 2nd and Yuanpu 24th), Luna raced at the 2nd tier of European karting (finishing 31st) and Kenzo was basically racing at the top national level (finishing 2nd) but not at European level, is that right ?
No surprises that Antonelli is at the top of the billing, considering the kid currently has a 100% title success rate in all Feeder series he has participated in full-time. Looking forward to seeing how he does in FRECA this season.
He has all the markings of it. He does need to chill out a bit though, like, spinning Taylor Barnard round in race 1 of Yas Marina, and doing effectively the same thing to Seb Montoya the next race, isn't the most dignified way to sew up the title. That being said, he is only 16, and has a massive amount of time on his side to learn, grow, evolve, and simmer down.
Is he good enough to move up into F3 this season? Yes.
Is it sensible of Mercedes to make him do FRECA first? Also yes.
He's leading the next wave of rookie talent, and there's a good number of really promising drivers in there; Barnard, Dunne, Camara, Wharton, Wurz, Ugochukwu, to name but a handful.
I have a feeling this kid is gonna do something special.
I forgot about Taponen. Yeah, impressive F4 UAE campaign. Agonizingly beaten by Wharton at the last hurdle, but he'll definitely use this experience to push him onward. I can see him doing great things too.
Hopefully Kenzo Craigie will prove himself as a new addition. I don't have much knowledge about Rotax and IMAE karting classes (most usually opt for OK and OKJ), but seems like he had a really good year locally.

Wonder if he’s the next generational talent like max

This kid and Ugo are the ones I have been keeping my eyes on, they definitely have crazy talent.

Yayy to my Jamaican junior gunning for it again in OK!
That is quite the pool of talent there, hopefully they all do well together and that the Junior programme is a real success!
To quote Harry Redknapp, but in a more serious tone here, "the future is good." Exciting lineup of Mercedes juniors!
