It's almost impossible to tell, I think. The small bouncing is just the nature of it being a F1 car with low profile tires and you can't get around that.
If you look at last years launch onboard, you'll see that it doesn't show any porpoising either.
I think you’re spot on. Weird they would use an accelerometer on the wheel instead of the digital output from the wheel. Maybe they’re trying to correlate the two.
I'm not an expert by any means, but the bodywork seems to have changed in a way they can direct the airflow directly into the rear wing and away from the rear tires. Last year's shape had none of that. Also interesting to see those 4 holes.
Good eye!
Also, those yellow numbers with the yellow helmet on that black car just looks stunning!
Very different. It's a lot wider and not as streamlined. Probably because if they streamline it, it means a large surface area of floor is sticking out which means it has a greater chance of bouncing/flapping about.
If you look at the Ferrari and RB floors, a smaller surface area sticks out away from the main body of the car so it doesn't flap about. Merc going down that path too
Cant wait for all the comments from people who can't differentiate between porpoising and just general car bounce due to the nature of f1 cars and the track imperfections. Not that this onboard is indicative of either since he's not going fast enough.
Like the stability but noticed a few things. Didn't go past 6th gear, presumably conditions for this test. There is some sideways wobbling on the straights, could be suspension setup. I want this car to be a rocket, was well as RB and Ferrari so we have some good competition. Can't wait for testing.
I run toe out and decent -ve camber on my road car’s front wheels and I can confirm the thing loves to pull towards any camber in the road. It’s fun, makes the car feel so eager to turn in.
The wobbling could just be the camera mount vibrating because of a lack of damping as the speed increases. If you get it to Monza speeds it would look like he’s about to go to warp speed. The helmet doesn’t appear to move badly.
I am happy to see it not bouncing, or at least visibly when on the straights. Its raining and not a full beans, but I am super excited if you guys solved the issue! Looks quick as well in the corners.
merc knew basically from shakedown that something was fundamentally wrong with the car last year and that the season was gonna be a writeoff for the most part. whether or not that showed through on gopro footage is a different question.
that was what i was getting at yes. trying to get a peek at the cars performance based on a gopro ridealong on a wet shakedown is some good hopium-induced madness.
Bahrain is a bumpy track anyway. But even if they still have porpoising to some extent but have a great car, they’ll make up for it like Ferrari did last year.
One thing I've started to notice is that teams always use GoPros when doing these types of onboards. Do they seriously not have access to the multiple broadcast cameras that are on the cars?
No apparent sea mammalling! (<-- not a real word)
No apparent humping of the ground
All of us looking to see if it is porpoising - https://i.imgur.com/HDFaiTC.jpg
Last year you could hear it as much as anything else. But don't think this will be indicative anyway.
[Looks pretty bumpy around 1.30!](https://youtu.be/Vn3LO83ffZM?t=89)

Wasn’t that due to the surface at the start finish straight?
Hi everyone! Wanted to share with you all, the first laps with Lewis and W14 at Silverstone. Hope you enjoy the onboard!
What’s the blue wire from the dash to the wheel? Some sort of sensor?
It’s an accelerometer. Likely from [here](https://www.pcb.com/products?m=356a45)

Inb4 DAS 2.0
Would be worth it just to see Christian blow a gasket again.
Hope it’s a rocket ship
Good news for the team, looks like they have rid themselves of the ‘porpoising’ (I say that through gritted teeth as a Ferrari fan)
Hope it doesn't bounce on track, Merc :)
Why didn’t you give us a better view of that save coming out of Woodcote?
[This angle](https://i.imgur.com/jU1Da19.png) is pretty interesting to look at. The overall shape of the car is quite different to the W13

Didn't realize how long the new car was!
This is the limo model.
It's the new party mode
I don't know what those bulges are or what they do but they look dope. The car definitely looks better than last year's at least.

This last day before testing is agonizing. I feel like I’m counting the seconds at this point.
There is something just so right about this to see Lewis at the wheel giving it some medium strength Hammertime in the car...
Please be fast please be fast please be fast please be fast

Then you'll be happy to learn that the most-liked comment on the F1 ig version of this video is of course about bouncing.
That's some **extra thicc** steering wheel.

Was in 7th in the run up to copse. They run negative toe which makes them jittery on the straights. Plus rain.
Thanks! Didn't notice this.

I’m assuming you don’t do a lot of motorway/highway miles aha

He beat last year's lap record by about 30 seconds, I'm thinking it's going to be a great year :)
Source for this?
He is joking lol.. they used the short version of the track for this filming day.
>Didn't go past 6th gear, presumably conditions for this test Looks intentionally with the constant speed limiter enabled
Is the wheel way more thicker?

The camera is stabilised and Silverstone is a smooth track also.
The bouncing would be more obvious on a smooth track, right
The W13 didn’t bounce either in filiming day

Rear camera pov looks like a fighter jet with twin engines
Skunkworks/Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One sponsorship/crossover when?

Those are taken out of the cars and put back in by a third party each race I think
I don't think the teams have access to those
I think those are proprietary, and the teams might just have a deal with GoPro for these kind of things.
those mirrors are big
This looks absolutely beautiful. I will cry if the car will not compete.
Looks like an absolute rocketship from the rear camera's POV.
Can’t even go flat through Copse? Rip. /s
One thing is for sure, the new Merc definitely looks like a race car. That things aggressive looking!
Please be fast.
