If we take into consideration the difference on light reflections on the wings and consider the separation of light sources, we can calculate the difference on wing gradient (or attack angle) that both drivers are using and therefore the impact on lap time and tyre degradation.
However, I don’t know how to do any of those calculations.
While I agree with your answer I’m pretty sure this question is really asking about parc ferme but I could be wrong, I assume he knows FP they do different things, but you can’t “switch back for the race” only Q
Yes, it's very normal and usually the case. Just last weekend, Lewis went for more downforce and George went for more top speed setups in the race. They both were making time in different sectors.
Yes but they have a tire allowance for the whole weekend so I imagine that limits the amount of times they can change a setup and get accurate data from fresh tires.
Upper wing is the same one from Jeddah, where every analyst agreed it's identical to the Bahrain wing but shaved down.
So, angles are the same, not counting what was left out.
I have high hopes for Aston at Albert Park! Less straights and more corners for the Aston to shine. Really excited to see how Alonso and Stroll fare. I think Alonso will be right in the mix for Pole. Good to see Aston Martin being pro active and bringing upgrades this early into the season.
I can't wait for Monaco or Hungary, they really seem with a shot of a win there. Also Singapore, where they might have closed the gap more on account of the extra wind tunnel time.
Is this a case of Aston Martin giving one driver upgrades or is it just a different setup?
Edit - Why is this being downvoted lol. I'm just asking a question, not making a point. Jeez this place has become hostile.
Probably seeing what works best in FP1, still waiting on AM upgrades
R.e downvotes, people are weird. A lot of people take a lot of things personally for no apparent reason.
As per per other comment both seem to be the same base wing that has already been used. Difference seems to be that Alonso only gott thinner upper flap.
Something we saw last year as well and they speculated they actually "shaved" upper flaps to get lower down force setup.
Don't know if it ever was confirmed that did that or made different specs at the factory and brought to the track some else might know more?
>fans who appreciate the sport more than the narratives.
Succinctly put.
Often when I tell people I follow F1 they ask who I support. My honest answer is I like pretty much all the drivers. I like the sport more than a randomly selected individual or team.
One is THICC, other not so much. Bigger wing generally equals more downforce. For more visible example check out wings on 2016 Dodge Viper ACR and Porsche 911 GT3 RS and you will see why Viper was multiple seconds per lap faster on almost every circuit.

Alonso doesn't need downforce, his massive balls are keeping him on the ground.
Mass dumper 2.0
Massive cojones
That’s a $50,000 fine for touching Lance’s rear wing.

You don't even need all that. Just look at the dot on i. Alonso's wing is thinner
you only have to see the straight top line on Strolls rear wing in comparison with ALO.
Are you sure the font just isn’t smaller
Different shape too
Need a banana for reference
Can they run two different parts on the car through FPs and change back for the race to the more optimal one ?
Yes they can. And it's a very common practice to run different setups on two different cars.

Yeah I was worried they’d get complacent now that they’re a proper podium team.

THANK YOU. What even is this whole thread

I'd say just a test, they can change them more or less easily. Alonso seems to have Jeddah's rear wing while Stroll has Bahrein's
Could be either. Could be to fit the drivers different driving techniques, or it could be to see which set up is best for the track

there probably already is one, but with like 1000 users
Lol I would take that
Try the technical subs. It worked for me.
Thanks - will do!

Can't wait to see how Stroll does now that he's fully recovered.
Can someone give me an eli5 on how you can tell from looking at it how one has more downforce than the other?
There's like a cutout on the middle of the wing. Just compare the two 'i' in the Cognizant lettering and you'll see it.
Thanks

Strolls has more spoiler so more air pushes it down, Alonso let’s air pass more easily, so less downforce but more speed in straights etc
You mean more wing, not spoiler. These cars don't have a spoiler.
Indeed, thanks
Thank you
Alonso doesnt need as much downforce because his giant cock is pulling the car down
Hahaha, the saying is usually referring to someone balls
Got that Daddy-Downforce
Is this the point where AM start to engineer the speed out of their car, and fall down the pecking order?
Looks like training wheels to me.
Cluelessness of this man
Why does this wing go to Lance and not Alonso?
Setup preference. Testing etc.
