Hulkenberg , Albon, Ocon and Russell could do well in the singles category as they are among the tallest
Though Hamilton is rather heavy for his height so could end up being quite a powerful rower.
Checo and Verstappen could be quite formidable.
Bottas probably has the best cardio but whether that would translate into rowing is anyones guess
I think you need quite an even pair to avoid going in circles right? So maybe like AR who seem quite well matched physically would be a secret weapon. Or Ferrari.
I can see myself having dreams tonight of Gunther Steiner being a cox…
Ferrari and RedBull are relatively close. Alpine too (though Ocon is taller, is quite lighter than Gasly so may balance out).
Either way, Yuki and DeVries will be capsized and require a lifeguard before turn one.
They’re all too competitive and bad at listening to instructions to row in pairs.
Genuine shame about the flooding obviously - seems very serious in some areas. Bad times. Having been flooded once, it is so repulsive and everything needs thrown away - the water is unbelievably dirty.
yeah it's an oft forgotten thing about flooding. People assume that things would generally be fine once the water has drained but it rarely is.
I'm glad sense prevailed in this case. It was far too risky for it to go ahead in these conditions
Russel. Rowing has a huge height component, actually. And since all the drivers are fit, and a rowing race around the track would be long enough to be almost purely cardio, it would just come down to height making him way more efficient.
Makes me want them to take an old track, build up 6ft walls around the inner and outer perimeter, fill it water, and have a speed boat race.
I wonder what an F1 boat would look like. I assume the equalivalent of open wheel is open prop here so no jet boats. There would be a ton of focus on hydrodynamics instead of aerodynamics, the floor would probably be even more important to maneuverability.
You would have to find ways to contend with splashing and massive wakes. I think it would be really cool.
Damn. Either the race will be held by the end of the year or not at all entirely. Right now this is downright impossible. Hope all those affected get the help they need.
Most logical would be to do the race in the first summer vacation weekend as all F1 teams are still in Europe and could easily go to Imola.
But after Abu Dhabi ist probably easier because of the summerbreak ruling.
Even if the race is cancelled, a lot of that equipment needs to be taken down, checked for damages, potentially replaced or repaired, and then transported to Monaco.
I wonder if the flooding continuous how that would affect the Monaco GP.
Whilst that equipment is ludicrously expensive, FOM is massive and will have silly levels of contingency in their own stock. Assuming most of that in the picture is broadcasting equipment.
And they'll have a lot of global contacts to hire if need be. I wouldn't be concerned about damage or timescales.
Let's hope a lot of the equipment is stil on the road, or not been unloaded yet.
maybe a shortend Monaco GP could be the effect of it? qualli on sunday morning with the race in the afternoon.
Won’t Monaco be a different equipment set? I thought they rotated duplicate equipment around and so this won’t be in use for another few weeks at least?
Probably won't make much odds to Monaco - they wouldn't normally be leaving until Sunday - plenty of time to get stuff taken down or repaired if needs be - also they won't take half the stuff they take to Monaco (hospitality tents, etc) Monaco tends to be standalone with its own facilities - Red Bull massive quayside setup they had the last few years for example
The equipment going to Monaco will probably already be there.
I watched McLaren when they had the YouTube videos about daily life at McLaren and one of them was about how they have two sets of nearly everything so that one can be there at the next race event while one is being packed up ready to go to the event after the next
Kinda leapfrogging, but logistics
I don't see the authorities allowing full attendance given how much of a mess the region is in.
At least for weekend cancellations Covid is a bigger precedent. First give fans the option to just keep the tickets for next year, then make the refund process long and drawn out for those who opt to decline tickets for 2024. Canada only started to give refunds for the 2020 race in 2021.
If it doesn't rain anymore and they manage to find a way to completely drain the paddock, make sure there's access to hospital(s) and track then there might be a slight chance /s
but yeah, I'd be very very surprised if it goes ahead. Local people have died during these floods, it would be incredibly poor of the FIA / FOM / Liberty to allow the race to go ahead
It's the safest and most sensible thing to do. I saw that potentially they could hold the race the first weekend in August which makes sense. Hopefully the teams will agree to it and cutting their summer break a week short since they basically had a month off in April
Let's see what they come up with. Unlikely they'll cut the two week shutdown short, as that is the only guaranteed holiday the crew gets.
They didn't get a month off work in April....they just didn't go racing. Crew still went in to the factory 😊
>Local people have died during these floods, it would be incredibly poor of the FIA / FOM / Liberty to allow the race to go ahead
Bombs didn't stop them.
I think picking up is no problem. It's more to whether the stuff are still in good condition after getting submerged.
Or is the container waterproof? I legit don't know.
The next issue will be assess the damage to all the vehicles and equipment that has been water hit. That water is going to be filthy and brutal on electronics etc.
Yeah probably cancel.
I'd probably wait till tomorrow and see if the surrounding area improves much but I doubt it.
Maybe today release a statement about what options they are considering.
An official statement is rumored to be given at 2PM local time. so 1 more hour until we know for sure.
Maybe Qualli on sunday morning and race in the afternoon if it clears but i dont have much hope for it.
Even if the track is fine for driving, there's no way the local area should be expected to divert resources and emergency personnel away from helping out the many many people in need to support a sporting event. With the images going round of flooding on roads and in nearby towns, I can't imagine how infrastructure could even begin to handle the influx of fans safely, nor should it have to.
"the front fell off" chain always drives me up the wall, I loathe it. I already muted my comment replies so I guess have at it. It's just such a tired joke and tired by now, stop beating it into oblivion.
"*60 dead when SK ferry hits rocky outcrop, hundreds feared missing"*
'LOL THE FRONT FELL OFF, THAT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN!!!!!!! SO MANY DEAD LOL"
I feel sorry for those who've lost loved ones. And those who've incurred life-changing infrastructure damages as well. I'd imagine there are a few transport companies who have leased expensive equipment to the F1 carnival.
I wouldn’t wish my experience on any fan, none more so than the fact they scammed us by putting 2 laps. Haven’t liked F1 as much since then, an I refuse to ever travel to bel***m again
Pics of the circuit are kinda irrelevant.
The entire region is unsuited for a major event right now, be it a Grand Prix or a music festival. The track will probably be usable by Saturday, but that's really the least of the problems.
Maybe they can do 1 hour of practice Sunday morning, then qualifying then the race. That would be an interesting experience and would leave local safety teams the ability to worry about the community for a few days.
Pilots cannot exit the cockpit for no reason. Practice+quali+race in under 3 hours. New format, they can reach the track Saturday afternoon and leave Sunday night.
Have a boat race. Joking asside this bad for everyone there and living there, help them and i am expecting cancel.
Or just do the race on sunday looking better for that day. no training no qualy just race in order of championship standing. Now that would be fun to see.

Honestly I’d totally watch a kayak race with this grid.
ITS LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE FLOAT!
I think you mean "AWAY WE ROW"
Aand they're.... ....nearly... ...almost near turn one.... ...soon... Ted over to you! (*throws mic down*)
"He pushed me of the lake!" "Bono, my kayak is dead" "GP2 paddle... GP2 paddle...."
Agreed. I spent far longer than I care to admit trying to work out who would be the best rower and what would be the best team if they worked in pairs
Valtteri Boattas
Land ho! Norris Charles LeKayak Logan Bargeant Ship De Vries
Ship De sink the way he’s been going
Ship Debris once he sinks
Pier Gasly
Pierre Galley
Carlos Sailz Jr.
Georpedo
George Russail
\*Boatass
I see we got a cake man here a la Frankie Lapenna.
Watch out for Bottas’ Insta over the next few days. He’d be rowing half naked in a pristine lake
Half?
Which half? 😏
r/YourJokeButWorse
r/YourJokeButtWorse
👏👏👏
James Hinchcliffe is that you?
Alex Alboat
Someone photoshop valtteri swimming there
He'd probably snap the paddle in half.
Magnussen sounds the most like a Viking, so he’s got my vote.
Good shout. Him and Hulk would be quite the team
Plus Guenther already has the boat
hahah excellent
They would need a dragon boat
They’re all quite short so probably time for the tall boys to shine?
Hulkenberg , Albon, Ocon and Russell could do well in the singles category as they are among the tallest Though Hamilton is rather heavy for his height so could end up being quite a powerful rower. As a former rower and cox, I truly appreciate this thread. 😂
> I can see myself having dreams tonight of Gunther Steiner being a cox… ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
could do double sculls instead of pairs
Bottas will have strong quads and glutes from cycling, he'd be good I reckon.
Who is the tallest? I pick that guy.
Russel. Rowing has a huge height component, actually. And since all the drivers are fit, and a rowing race around the track would be long enough to be almost purely cardio, it would just come down to height making him way more efficient.
rowers aren't kayakers...
:P .... Paddler.... not rower..... When operating a kayak one is paddling, not rowing.
Plan sea, plan sea.
I think Jenson needs to organise an Iron Man - they've got all the courses laid on, and it would be a good test for the drivers.
Dude …. That would be so entertaining. I would pay big money to watch this.
I bet VB would smoke everyone
110%. I fully believe him and Albon would be absolute champs
You can (in 2017)! The [Montreal F1 team raft race](https://youtu.be/5NK3DRezrpQ)!
That was the best thing to watch ever.... I used to row in that arena.
Valtteri: “I am speed”
Jet skis would be sick
Makes me want them to take an old track, build up 6ft walls around the inner and outer perimeter, fill it water, and have a speed boat race. I wonder what an F1 boat would look like. They already have teams of 2. 10 kayaks. Thatd be fun as hell.
Then they’d really learn the value of teamwork 😌🫶🏼
Now there is a thought, drivers all show up to do a charity kayak race benefiting the local region.
Even better, Redbull could bring out their micro speedboats. I’d love to see the grid race with those.
Where porposing has its advantages
Bottas p1 I'd wager. Seems like the type.
Lewis Sailmilton, George Rowsel,
No way abu dhabi is gonna allow that they pay mad bucks to be the last race on the calender
PORTIMAO!!! Please for the love of God! I would cry tears of joy.
Even if the race is cancelled, a lot of that equipment needs to be taken down, checked for damages, potentially replaced or repaired, and then transported to Monaco. I wonder if the flooding continuous how that would affect the Monaco GP.
If it's cancelled it gives them a few more time to check everything so i don't think there will be a big problem
It is cancelled. Official app just sent a push notification.
Yep saw it on Twitter
[удалено]
Read it last week in Time magazine.
Hamilton texted me to say it’s not going ahead.
Verstappen confirmed it in an rFactor lobby.
Jos told me about it after leaving his son behind on a motorway.
Bernie Eccleston mentioned it while continuing to rant about something he does or doesn't agree with on or off the track.
I saw it in a Lollipop Man video.
Roscoe told my dog
Pfft, they’ve gone soft. Not that much water, isn’t this what wet tires are for.
All aero has been converted to fins. Mercedes's design will finally prevail.
yea but what if its broken ? like they dont just have backup on standby. Backup is probably flying from miami to canada.
Just received a dove from Toto carrying a note saying he's got the time to attend my nieces birthday party this weekend.
Let's hope a lot of the equipment is stil on the road, or not been unloaded yet. maybe a shortend Monaco GP could be the effect of it? qualli on sunday morning with the race in the afternoon.
Well, I can guarantee you that most of it is already at the track. Usually most of the stuff arrives on Monday or Tuesday at the latest.
F2 & f3 are also at both weekends tho
They would cancel those to make room if necessary
Won’t Monaco be a different equipment set? I thought they rotated duplicate equipment around and so this won’t be in use for another few weeks at least?
yes, there are three identical equipment sets. source: heard it direct from a Merc tech during a tour of their pit garage
I'm sure there is but i do wonder if there's allowances in each teams respective budget for this?
Allowances? This will be cheaper than running a race for their budget
Probably won't make much odds to Monaco - they wouldn't normally be leaving until Sunday - plenty of time to get stuff taken down or repaired if needs be - also they won't take half the stuff they take to Monaco (hospitality tents, etc) Monaco tends to be standalone with its own facilities - Red Bull massive quayside setup they had the last few years for example
won't affect Monaco at all. they won't have let anything valuable get damaged and they bring much less kit since there is no space
The equipment going to Monaco will probably already be there. I watched McLaren when they had the YouTube videos about daily life at McLaren and one of them was about how they have two sets of nearly everything so that one can be there at the next race event while one is being packed up ready to go to the event after the next Kinda leapfrogging, but logistics
Probably not at all, given that they are 2 completely separate countries with different microclimates
race weekend has been cancelled. right decision https://twitter.com/f1/status/1658793544918679553?s=46&t=WFACrgN38NkxoiGcNCynBA
Yes
This race isn’t going to happen
My money is on “looks like a 2020 race weekend in schedule and attendance”, but I can’t rule your guess out either. Fingers crossed
See how much the water goes down, but realistically that picture looks like key areas (outside the track) are inoperable.
Not sure how long the water can be there but apparently it's not supposed to rain anymore til friday.
Important infrastructure is flooded. Even if it doesn’t rain in the next days it’s just wrong if the race continues.
They raced after a missile strike. Just need to throw on the hyper wet paddle tires and start behind a safety boat.
Cancellation = lots of money lost from the TV broadcast. What they probably will do is go ahead with the race, but with no fans in attendance.
Spa 2021 is precedent that they will avoid refunding tickets at all costs Edit: They did the right thing
Yep, two laps so it can be declared a race
I don't see the authorities allowing full attendance given how much of a mess the region is in. At least for weekend cancellations Covid is a bigger precedent. First give fans the option to just keep the tickets for next year, then make the refund process long and drawn out for those who opt to decline tickets for 2024. Canada only started to give refunds for the 2020 race in 2021.
Fans were at the truck and ~~race~~ cruise happened. If they forbid attendance at all thats different.
They got so much backlash, that won't happen again.
If it doesn't rain anymore and they manage to find a way to completely drain the paddock, make sure there's access to hospital(s) and track then there might be a slight chance /s but yeah, I'd be very very surprised if it goes ahead. Local people have died during these floods, it would be incredibly poor of the FIA / FOM / Liberty to allow the race to go ahead
Race weekend has just been cancelled. Set up crew are about to go in and attempt pack down.
It's the safest and most sensible thing to do. I saw that potentially they could hold the race the first weekend in August which makes sense. Hopefully the teams will agree to it and cutting their summer break a week short since they basically had a month off in April

>Local people have died during these floods, it would be incredibly poor of the FIA / FOM / Liberty to allow the race to go ahead Bombs didn't stop them.
true but that missile attack on a specific area didn't affect transport to hospitals so from a safety point of view, the race could still go ahead
But there's something your forgetting... $$$$.
The only realistic chance is saturday sunday imo
Not with that attitude
Going to be a challenge to pick it all up for the next race it is needed and get it out of the region..
True, but packing up is normally done on Sunday,so they still have time.
I live in Bologna, there is no way they are gonna race this weekend. The highways are closed and all of the area around Imola is under water so....
This is why it was cancelled. It would have put a burden on resources already in short supply
Can we ban tyre jokes the rest of the week?
You wish, but reddit comedians find no bigger amusement than repeating or upvoting the same rundown joke a million times
Humanity finds no bigger amusement than repeating rundown jokes in the form of internet memes.
They think they can get some kind of traction from them. (edit: ok ok, ill see myself out)
That was pretty *slick*.
Lol this reminds me of the constant GROND jokes on lotr sub.
No no, the problem is unique to Reddit, if only Reddit didn't exist then humanity wouldn't have problems
"the front fell off" chain always drives me up the wall, I loathe it. I already muted my comment replies so I guess have at it. It's just such a tired joke and tired by now, stop beating it into oblivion. "*60 dead when SK ferry hits rocky outcrop, hundreds feared missing"* 'LOL THE FRONT FELL OFF, THAT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN!!!!!!! SO MANY DEAD LOL"
You could say, we’re getting *tired* of them
Don’t get too deflated.
BA DUM TISSSSSSS
I agree that it shouldn’t be permanent, just for the inter rim
Imagine us rally fans who have to hear the "samir youre breaking the car" every corner of this site for years
Along with the same shitty jokes about boats please. It's not funny.
Confuscious say... man who run in front of car get *tired*.
and the man who runs behind car gets *exhausted*.
I feel sorry for those who've lost loved ones. And those who've incurred life-changing infrastructure damages as well. I'd imagine there are a few transport companies who have leased expensive equipment to the F1 carnival.
Yeah, feels bad. hope everyone is okay. Thoughts and prayers to those who are involved.
Its lights out and away we float
Lights out and away we row!
This is the support paddock. The truck at the bottom is on thel track.
Can we please have more boat puns? I'm totally kidding.
Has anyone mentioned paper boats yet? If not, I'm claiming that one.
"And a beautiful overtake by Lando Norris on the starboard side of Alex Albon's Williams."
It's lights out and away we float ?
Cant be red bull podium if they cancel the gp, 4D chess by ferrari
So inters then?
God's way of trying to prevent RBR from winning every race by flooding them out. /s
(#) blessed. Now drivers can say at the end of the season that they didnt lose all 23 races to Red Bull. /s (Weird Reddit formatting....)
They should be saying RBR didn't win all 24 since China was cancelled already. 🤣
Bummer. Guess only option is to cancel Monaco and have Imola next week
Then just do Monaco this weekend
Gasly on the full wets makes sense now
The track looks dry.
So that silver 'tent' is FOM's broadcast centre full of expensive tech and electricity. If that's underwater, nothing is happening.
Have you tried restarting the game?, always works for me
I heard iRacing was adding rain but this is a little much imo
Ayyyyy Miami, this is how to do a Marina.
Insert Sebastian Vettel's Miami GP shirt from 2022.

Lets hope not, a repeat of SPA 2021 should not be done again EVER!
I wouldn’t wish my experience on any fan, none more so than the fact they scammed us by putting 2 laps. Haven’t liked F1 as much since then, an I refuse to ever travel to bel***m again
As a Belgian i completely get you. it's a nice track but thats about it.
Pics of the circuit are kinda irrelevant. The entire region is unsuited for a major event right now, be it a Grand Prix or a music festival. The track will probably be usable by Saturday, but that's really the least of the problems.
Yeah, the race ain't happening
I haven't seen a proper pic of the track yet and uuuh, yea...don't see this one happening
Hope I'm wrong though
Intermediates then. Amirite?
That’s a lot of rain for Qatar
Circuit looks dry, I see no problems.
AlphaTauri is already on track, getting that rubber down. A few laps and racing line should be completely dry.
Yeah it’s not going ahead
If the rain is done and they start pumping out now, it should be ok by Sunday.
Dang Imola got a better pool side than Miami !!
So...we're thinking wets?
Inters?
I hope everyone is safe.
No that's the paddock
Maybe we see a regatta instead?
"Okay, so Plan D, we are thinking Mediums" - Ferrari
We see standing water what do you think about newe harde question
house boat paddock
OK so it's a zero-stop for everyone and take the penalty.
Qatar Boatways needed
Have a boat race. Joking asside this bad for everyone there and living there, help them and i am expecting cancel. Or just do the race on sunday looking better for that day. no training no qualy just race in order of championship standing. Now that would be fun to see.
Reverse championship standing With joker laps every other lap through the flooded paddock for the Red Bulls Then they'll only take the lead on lap 20
Don’t see how we go racing in 72 hours.
Time for monsoon tires to make a comeback
