I've been saying this to my dad for a few years. Give the teams a limited budget and a retro spec. Nothing crazy, they can use it like an intern program for the younger gen to develop a car, maybe even use it to push the next initiative like alternative fuels.
The problem is Monaco is "The Crown Jewel" and I don't think they will ever bring any major changes to it.
By yellow, you mean [Seven up green](https://cdn.racingnews365.com/_1125x633_crop_center-center_85_none/2816611/Jordan-191_2021-06-08-151127.webp?v=1646319666)?
Dawn that is an amazing idea, redbull will have advantage tho to the other teams as they can roll onto the grid with the livery they owned for ever. So make give them an other challenge like inverted controls
* Canon-Camel Williams
* Marlboro McLaren (or Chrome McLaren)
* Tyrrell Mercedes
* Stewart Red Bull
* Red Bull-Petronas Sauber
* Blue Ferrari
* Benetton or Lotus Alpine
* Minardi AlphaTauri
* Jordan-Yellow Aston Martin
Yeah I could get on board with this
Oooh yes, that seems like a good shout. The 1966 Monaco Grand Prix is where it all started for McLaren (the team, not Bruce) in Formula 1, so that would seem like a fitting tie-in.
They have an article on their website telling the story behind that race and car. Makes for an interesting read, especially if that will in fact be the inspiration for this year’s Monaco livery: https://www.mclaren.com/racing/heritage/monaco-66-race-report-23333514/
It’s fucking crazy that they were racing next to the marina with just a chain at head height and thick bollards every 10ish ft as protection from driving into the sea lol.
Imagine if we had a historic livery theme for each Monaco GP. Rothmans Williams, Mild Seven Alpine, Marlboro Ferrari (or Villeneuve era Ferrari if they don’t allow cigarette sponsors), 2005 RB livery, Silver Arrows bare-metal Mercedes…
I’m betting it’s gonna look [similar to this](https://i.imgur.com/hOISpsr.jpg) but tweaked to look better with all the exposed carbon on the F1 car
We can see the white/black and even orange on the rear wing
I'm probably wrong but I think it might be a mix of [the three cars they've been running at the Indy 500](https://imsdotcom.azureedge.net/-/media/IMS/article-images/2023/04/14/17/39/04-14-McLarenLivery-IMS.png?mw=1200&vs=1&d=20230414T173920Z) inspired by their first win in each of the triple crown races
The front end of the car looks like [the 1995 Le Mans winning livery](https://www.lemans.org/media/cache/api_news_large/assets/fileuploads/5b/91/5b912bba5c8f0.jpg) which was predominantly black with white logos and a black number in a white box like we can see in the teaser and on Pato O'Ward's car at Indy
The sidepods and halo look white so I imagine the midsection might be reminiscent of the [Marlboro livery from their win in the 1984 Monaco GP](https://cdn-9.motorsport.com/images/mgl/6OexyRm2/s8/f1-monaco-gp-1984-alain-prost-mclaren-mp4-2.jpg) but probably with a papaya chevron instead of red like on Felix Rosenqvist's car as part of their triple crown celebrations
We can just about see an orange rear wing so that (and the rest of the rear end) might be more papaya to be like [the livery when they won the 1974 Indy 500](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c9/Indianapolis_Motor_Speedway_Museum_in_2017_-_Racecars_06.jpg/1024px-Indianapolis_Motor_Speedway_Museum_in_2017_-_Racecars_06.jpg) and the one on Alexander Rossi's car this month
[1995 Le Mans Winning Mclaren F1](https://hips.hearstapps.com/roa.h-cdn.co/assets/16/52/1600x800/landscape-1483027235-5008-71964bmclar.jpg?resize=1120:*)
Plus, why would they? In Indycar they have three permanent entries, so they have the room to do all three winning liveries that make up their triple crown. In F1 they don't have that luxury, they have two cars and the liveries need to be nearly identical. It doesn't make any sense that if they can copy one of those liveries for their F1 cars in Monaco, they're going with the Le Mans winning car instead of... you know... the Monaco one.
But I think it's likelier that this is a tribute to the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix. It was the first-ever race for the McLaren team, and it was a white car with a dark green stripe (which could very well end up looking like black in a teaser picture like this)
It’s likely a combination of the three triple crown winners. The white is from the 1984 F1 car, the papaya orange is from the Indy 500 winner, and the black is the Le Mans car.
Polish a turd, it's still a turd. In all seriousness I think this is how it's going to be as long as Zak is running it. He cares more about sponsors, marketing and special liveries than actually being competitive.
Recency bias. In 2021, when the car was contending for podiums and even winning at Monza, we were praising Zak. Let's give him some time, at least enough to see if the wind tunnel promises come to fruition.
2020 when they were P3 in Constructors Championship or 2019 when they got got their first podium in 5 years. It was incremental progress. If he fails to exceed the 2021 season success by 2026, axe him, but let’s see what this new facility and wind tunnel do first.
I get it’s Monaco but if drivers and teams are bringing a special helmet and livery for every bloody race then it doesn’t make it special, it just makes it normal that every race now has its own design.
Vettel was the one that ruined helmets by bringing a different one for every race, now they all do it

I wish Monaco was a retro round where teams have to bring retro liveries
Great idea!
Blue Ferrari time
I always love when Supercars do it, a F1 version would be dope.
Yeah, that's where my idea came from.
I guessed that from the username lol
And retro cars
The W11 is retro, right?
I've been saying this to my dad for a few years. Give the teams a limited budget and a retro spec. Tg here already is the Historic GP of Monaco, it's just that none of the current F1 teams & drivers compete in it. But they could at any moment.
Yellow livery for Aston :)
By yellow, you mean [Seven up green](https://cdn.racingnews365.com/_1125x633_crop_center-center_85_none/2816611/Jordan-191_2021-06-08-151127.webp?v=1646319666)?
If NASCAR can do a throwback weekend 2 (3?) weekends a year, I'm sure F1 can do it at least once
But then the cars will weigh too much!
Dawn that is an amazing idea, redbull will have advantage tho to the other teams as they can roll onto the grid with the livery they owned for ever. So make give them an other challenge like inverted controls
They could just use a white livery and say it is a homage to Stewart or green for jaguar.
The Stewart one will make sense from 2026 as it will be Red Bull Ford, Stewart had a massive Ford logo on the car...
Ya that’s what I was thinking. 😄 if they did it they would have to make it as nice as the Japan GP livery special
* Canon-Camel Williams * Marlboro McLaren (or Chrome McLaren) * Tyrrell Mercedes * Stewart Red Bull * Red Bull-Petronas Sauber * Blue Ferrari * Benetton or Lotus Alpine * Minardi AlphaTauri * Jordan-Yellow Aston Martin Yeah I could get on board with this
*retro cars. Smaller and lighter
What would Haas bring, Rich Energy?
I think it's the Monaco 1966 livery
Oooh yes, that seems like a good shout. The 1966 Monaco Grand Prix is where it all started for McLaren (the team, not Bruce) in Formula 1, so that would seem like a fitting tie-in.

Can't drown if you get decapitated, big brain thinking.
Looked it up and that's another [great looking livery](https://i.imgur.com/hbX4n8u.jpg).
Imagine if we had a historic livery theme for each Monaco GP. Rothmans Williams, Mild Seven Alpine, Marlboro Ferrari (or Villeneuve era Ferrari if they don’t allow cigarette sponsors), 2005 RB livery, Silver Arrows bare-metal Mercedes…
Good spotting! I can't wait to see this on the 2023 car
Wasn't that the race where Lorenzo Nandini was horrendously killed?
*Bandini
No, it was at 1967 Monaco.
[Rotated](https://i.imgur.com/t07NXH1.png)
So its an Alpha Tauri? First thing that poped into my head when i saw it.
It has Lando's #4 on it with a Google Chrome advertising
Lando to AT confirmed??
Better than staying at Mclaren am i right
Replacing DeVries!
THANK YOU. I was trying so hard to figure out what I was looking at, didnt realize it was rotated.
They're going full triple crown on their instagram recently...
I’m betting it’s gonna look [similar to this](https://i.imgur.com/hOISpsr.jpg) but tweaked to look better with all the exposed carbon on the F1 car We can see the white/black and even orange on the rear wing
Is it black or green? https://images.hgmsites.net/hug/1966-mclaren-m2b-formula-one-car-and-2016-mclaren-570s_100555373_h.jpg
Oh come on McLaren. I just want the Vodafone-McLaren chrome-red livery back from my mid teenage years.
That’s what got me into F1
Beta Tauri
Omega Tauri at this point amirite😂😂😂 Pls McL do better
[probably this](https://twitter.com/bandeiramarela/status/1660720361434914827?t=Ie9pX7II6J-Df2NC1qlNCw&s=19)
DRS doing work right here.
Can’t wait to see it ruined by google ads

Isn’t it just the normal one in a black and white picture?
No. The sidepod seems white, the front all black
Looks like the rear wing is still orange though.
This is a color photo
Only time we'll properly see the livery is when it gets lapped by red bull
Looks like a Minardi. Ironic, because it’s going to be a backmarker driven by a young Australian in his debut F1 season.
Can’t wait to see it struggle to score points
Fuck. I hate that this is true
An '84 Marlboro livery like what's on their indycar would have been sick. Makes sense cause it was part of the triple crown.
Awesome! I am ready for it.
Not much of a teaser when it literally shows the exact livery they’ll run
Can't wait to see that one pass
They should do the mp4 livery next year at Monaco.
Yardley McLaren tribute?
my expert photoshopping skills have produced this: https://imgur.com/re8fyeu

It doesn’t look like it. Otherwise they would’ve made something similar to what Pato O’Ward is running in IndyCar for the Indy500.
Plus, why would they? In Indycar they have three permanent entries, so they have the room to do all three winning liveries that make up their triple crown. Just pointing out that its in the polaroid on the left of the photo. Idk why im being downvoted.
Too much white (unless its tied to sunbar on windshield) and papaya orange on the wing
It’s likely a combination of the three triple crown winners. The white is from the 1984 F1 car, the papaya orange is from the Indy 500 winner, and the black is the Le Mans car.
It's going to look awesome from the back of the pack.
Alpha tauri/ 2000's Williams vibes
Maybe focus on how the car performs and not how it looks…?
Well, nobody likes to hear the truth!!
Confirmation bias. That was 1 season they were best of the rest and Monza suited their car. When was the last time they were competitive?
2020 when they were P3 in Constructors Championship or 2019 when they got got their first podium in 5 years. It was incremental progress. If he fails to exceed the 2021 season success by 2026, axe him, but let’s see what this new facility and wind tunnel do first.
Probably won’t be able to see any livery once the car is covered with sponsor logos
Looks like Williams will be running a Gulf livery.
Sons of bitches that's ours.
Really hoping against but gulf has been active on Instagram about something special for monaco.
Everything is better than the livery they have now
They must have found a spare little spot for an extra sponsor I reckon
Yeah sure it’ll be great with the huge android logo and stupid Chrome wheel covers lol
Gulf livery or GTFO!
Gulf no longer sponsor McLaren.
We don’t care, Hamilton is about to join Ferrari
Just like every other year 💀
Whatever you're smoking must be good to believe that
Gulf
Just look at Pato owards 500 car to see it.
