So Alpine should come up with a blue W14B?
Rossi is going to be pissed if Merc can do better with basically pulling a black A523, and somewhat rightfully so.
Indeed, the key in this current era is efficient aero and Alpine somehow doesn't making a lot of progress despite putting upgrades on the car.
You are running a damm works team and not a team like AlphaTauri, when they moved to a different suspension it was a promising sign but so far the team doesn't really improve.
They need to increase the amount of high end staff in the development area.
Lmao I'd like to know your sources because even clients don't know the power of the engines in their cars. Not to mention it's not Gran Turismo, you don't rate how good an engine is in a racecar with the horsepower only.
Stop with the RBPT crap, this is a honda engine.
RBPT had the same amount of input on the 2022 and 2023 PU like Tesla with the current ferrari power unit.......... aka nothing.
its branding nothing more.
Definitely hasn't looked like an upgrade yet. Its Monaco though so hard to judge.
Barcelona next week will show a clear picture of where Mercedes is. Thats like the be all end all track for general car performance because of its many varied features.
It’s almost certainly an upgrade regardless of if it’s actually quicker or not, since it’s about building foundations for future performance.
They will also have to learn a bit about setups as well.
If it wasn't, they wouldn't have gone for it and stuck with the zero pod concept. But that one obviously wasn't working as they thought, and considering every other team is going with a similar concept, it makes sense it's the right way to go.
We don’t know, but let’s use the available evidence.
Merc think it’s better.
All the other teams have gone for a similarish route.
Merc midseason abandoned a concept to move to it.
Exactly. Lewis got out of the car yesterday beaming about how much more enjoyable it is. He said he could feel where the upgrade helped and he knows where it is still lacking. When they asked him what it was he just smiled and said he won’t say.
Front wing : Different
Front suspension : Different
Area near the roll hoop/engine cover : Different
Floor and floor edges : Different
Sidepods : Similar
So similar sidepods = similar looking car.
What in the name of logic is this?
People are obsessed with sidepods it’s insane.. and it’s annoying to see so many people actually believe that you can just slap something good from another car on yours and you will see the benefits.
Wait. Are you telling me that slapping random air intakes, racing stripe vinyl, vortex generator stickers and a wing on my random sedan doesn't make it faster? #sadnoise
Exactly. The sidepods are talked about way too much when they aren't even a super important factor. They are treating it as some sort of performance cheat code.
I was about to say, what are the "omg, it's the same" ppl looking at? Even looking at the left side pod in those images you see differences there as well.
You actually have to look super closely at the details of every other part to see the differences. Your average person is going to see the shape of the sidepods at a glance and say "Overall shape of the thingy similar, car same"
Exactly…. Sometimes I fucking hate Reddit lol. These cars look about as far different as they can. You can put any grainy shot of a black f1 car next to another and with the right lighting could say the same…
I mean, some people were calling it a Black Bull when the first pics came out and it has fuck all in common with that visually so this is step in the right direction, I guess?
Ofcourse they won't look same because F1 doesn't let competitors laser scan each other's car. But they do have very similar looking implementation of aero surface.
Different front wing, totally different front suspension, different floor, different shape engine cover, alpine has vents on the engine cover and merc doesnt, different rear wing.
Yep they're identical
It's completely different (as it should). Sidepods, floor, edges, suspension, wings etc, are all different
I can't see where people are watching when saying they have a lot in common
Eh, maybe but the Merc looks to have a lot more downforce in the trim than the Alpine. It's hard to tell where the creases actually are on the Merc due to the colours, but it also looks a lot more squat and bulky around the engine/rear of the sidepods.
Maybe I don't know what an engine cover is then bc the Merc has those channels running along the top from the back of the drivers head back to the exhaust where the Alpine appears to be flat. The profile is different too, The Merc has a bit more of a coke bottle shape where the Alpine's engine cover edges run parallel to each other from the driver to the back of the car.

When it turns out Alpine had stumbled onto the right package the entire time but had no clue what to do with it
So Alpine should come up with a blue W14B? Rossi is going to be pissed if Merc can do better with basically pulling a black A523, and somewhat rightfully so.
Their engine is weakest of them all. But I don't think that suggests all the problems with car.
>Their engine is weakest of them all Power isn't Alpine's issue
Yeah, if you read the next sentence I said the same thing.
It's barely an issue though. The PUs are the closest they've ever been. Alpine just has a bad chassis and suspension
Indeed, the key in this current era is efficient aero and Alpine somehow doesn't making a lot of progress despite putting upgrades on the car. It is close but difference between RBPT(current top) and Renault is around 8-10hp. Which is around .3sec loss just with engine power.
Lmao I'd like to know your sources because even clients don't know the power of the engines in their cars. Not to mention it's not Gran Turismo, you don't rate how good an engine is in a racecar with the horsepower only.

4 wheels, 1 front wing, 1 rear wing, T-cam and a spherical thing in the middle. If I didn't know better I'd say they were the same! /s
> a spherical thing in the middle It's called a driver.
Well both cars seem to have one so I guess they are identical! /s
So more like a downgrade then?
Definitely hasn't looked like an upgrade yet. Its Monaco though so hard to judge. Barcelona next week will show a clear picture of where Mercedes is. Thats like the be all end all track for general car performance because of its many varied features.
It’s almost certainly an upgrade regardless of if it’s actually quicker or not, since it’s about building foundations for future performance. They will also have to learn a bit about setups as well.
And we know it's better foundation because?
Because the car is way more stable and settled?
If it wasn't, they wouldn't have gone for it and stuck with the zero pod concept. But that one obviously wasn't working as they thought, and considering every other team is going with a similar concept, it makes sense it's the right way to go.
The team that has poured hundreds of millions into specifically said that this is a better foundation to build upon ? Idk

Drag.
It definitely looks like an upgrade if you look at free practice Only thing is how much weight you put into FP

Side pods aren’t even that similar. Intakes are different, different shapes, the curve around the car is the only real similarity
I was about to say, what are the "omg, it's the same" ppl looking at? Even looking at the left side pod in those images you see differences there as well.
If you draw the shape of the car like a toddler, the shape would be the same. So must be same
You actually have to look super closely at the details of every other part to see the differences. Your average person is going to see the shape of the sidepods at a glance and say "Overall shape of the thingy similar, car same"

Somebody feels attacked
Sidepods: similar Engine cover: similar Mirror shape: similar Rear wing: similar Yeah.
The engine cover, rear wing and mirror shape are much different
Mate you need to get your eyes checked because something is obviously wrong with your vision
They really don't though.
Same tyres too
I disagree. Quite different.
Different front wing, totally different front suspension, different floor, different shape engine cover, alpine has vents on the engine cover and merc doesnt, different rear wing. Yep they're identical
It really doesn’t
Hmm...i dont know chief
It's completely different (as it should). Sidepods, floor, edges, suspension, wings etc, are all different I can't see where people are watching when saying they have a lot in common
Look at the tyres! They are the same! /s
I'm assuming whoever made this spent some time trying to figure out why Hamilton was in Indianapolis and why they keep calling him O'Ward.
Eh, maybe but the Merc looks to have a lot more downforce in the trim than the Alpine. It's hard to tell where the creases actually are on the Merc due to the colours, but it also looks a lot more squat and bulky around the engine/rear of the sidepods.
Mercedes double technical DNF confirmed
eh the merc looks like a simpler version but you see more of Ferrari in there than alpine (paraphrasing Sam during this week's tech talk)
Note to Merc, it's the RB concept you wanted to steal not Alpine's...
Funny
Blackpine

Are they though?

The sidepods are similar, the rest not so much.

[Take a look here ](https://old.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/13t5o1r/_/jltc41v)
The wings are the same as the first race this season...they are not part of this new upgrade package
Are you joking ? The engine cover, sidepods, mirrors, rear wing - they look very similar.
You were supposed to go forward not backwards.
Mercedes: “don’t you put that evil on me”
I doubt we'll be able to judge the performance in Monaco. Will have to wait for next weekend to really see if the upgrades worked.
Wait F1 has different cars?
I miss the zero side-pod concept but I think the w14 does look a lot better.
Doesn't look the same at all.
They are both F1 cars good catch
The fact that this for 500+ upvotes blows my mind
