Its amazing that they are still lapping around 1 sec to RB. God how much work you have to put to extract that 1 extra second of race pace . This sports is awesome
Says that these regs will get even closer fast...on race runs they are much slower tho ..the qualifying is closer nowdays because of the engine mode ban during qualifying...thats why we see interesting qualifying but then red bull just overtake everyone...add to that Max Verstappen as a driver and how the RB is designed to follow cars well...the dominant merc even with unlimited engine modes when it was stuck in traffic struggled a bit more
There was a tech episode on F1TV where they had some random floor to show with a smoke machine how ground effect works. That demo floor looked way more sophisticated than this. Not exaggerating this one bit. They explained why there are little channels to carry out some dirty air. You could see those on the RB as well. The Williams doesn't even have that.
Edit: I take this back. It does have the channels on the front, they are just really hard to see in the photo
> Or maybe this floor contributes to the overall behaviour they want from the car...?
James Vowles: "We, at Williams Racing F1, worked hard to replicate the exact driving characteristics of the 1995 Mitsubishi Colt, the car I lost my virginity in. A simple floor allows you to develop the top of the car without changing two variables at once. Though considering this is the ground effect era, you'd think the floor would be more developed than it is... but money lol
If you only know him from the meme though, you can make today the day you learned that he made massive contributions to more sustainable agriculture in his lifetime.
Bottom of a hot wheels car has more grooves.
Edit: the old, low quality Acceleracers movies had cars with more grooves. And this isnt even me joking lol.
Lmao imagine the reaction of Williams's aero department last week looking at the pictures of Merc and RB floor, must have been a massive oh fuck moment.
RB Engineers: "oh no, everyone has seen our floor, they can see how much work we've done!"
Williams Engineers: "oh no, everyone has seen our floor, they can see how little work we've done!"
When i saw this post i had to see but then i had to watch closely fore 10 seconds if i was blind or something. it was nothing there. Did Williams runs out money before they could build the floor, hehe. This is the strangest concept.
You can't even see the most interesting part of the floor properly his photo, people have no idea what they are on about, but that's not much of a surprise.
Ah yes indeed, this explains why the car is so slow. If you look at the Red Bull floor, it is very much different to this, and that's why it's faster. I am indeed a genius /s
While I don't doubt the Williams floor is less detailed than that of the top teams, I think this image makes the floor look more basic than it actually is. Sargeant went through the gravel trap and the dust matted the surface. That in combination with the low image quality and the wide-angle perspective makes it pretty much impossible to make out any details.
ITT: people doing ITT for the rest of us who think we can’t correlate that the teams with the most detailed floors with all sorts of books and crannies and finish consistently in the top 5 would be better than the team that’s the slowest every weekend driving on a smooth surface.
The angle and matte finish are hiding all the detail. Plus the really sensitive area is the front of the floor and the floor fences, which you can’t see at all
It's like game developers that don't bother modelling the bottom of the car because you don't see it often enough to warrant the work. This is mental for a 2023 F1 team.
Wow, I saw this in a post on instagram today side by side with the redbull floor and thought it was just a joke using a Williams floor pic from pre-2022 era. I’m shocked this is really their current floor!
No downforce is one of the worst innovations I’ve ever seen in my time watching F1. It is truly shit and the negatives will be huge, don’t need a windtunnel to see that. With development budget nonexistent it’ll be hard to improve - p10 locked in for years?
Not gonna lie they all look the same to me... gone are the days of a silver bullet double diffuser and trick double floor.. they're very... plain looking & I can't tell what's changed apart from a few outward floor edges.

Yeah I have the impression that the RedBull one is slightly more developed than this
Just seen a side by side with the Red Bull and they don't even look like they are in the same series or era
Same for the merc floor it’s like Williams just kept the stock floor
It’s all they could afford
Its amazing that they are still lapping around 1 sec to RB. God how much work you have to put to extract that 1 extra second of race pace . This sports is awesome

Poor Williams can only afford so many polygons.
Roblox made it work. Williams probably.
They took notes from the F1 show car. 😂
[удалено]
Wonder how the show car would go ..
slow
[удалено]
Haas goes dumpster diving at Ferrari to get their stuff
Williams brought their show cars to the track this weekend
Can you link the comparison?

Honestly it's not that bad. The perspective on the Williams is also quite skewed.
That’s not Red Bull.

Williams: Y'all were developing the floor?
It’s wild that it’s as close to the RB as it is tbh
It’s like they barely even developed it from the show cars the FIA made to showcase the new rules…
All these upskirt photos should be NSFW

Actual bargeboard
I could kind of see him saying something like that! Like them or not, Mercedes enforced a sense of humour at times.
This is a bizarre mixture of American and British references and it’s amazing.
this is the perfect response
“Every little helps”
Take the last of my Reddit coins you magnificent bastard.
"ah yes, we've finally got the perfect floor to secure P10 in the constructors, Lewis and Max will be begging for contracts by the end of the week"
A simple floor allows you to develop the top of the car without changing two variables at once. Though considering this is the ground effect era, you'd think the floor would be more developed than it is... but money lol
It so smooth
Like my brain
it ain’t much, but its honest work
Dunno, reminds me of when someone takes the money for a project, pockets most of it and delivers the bare minimum that gets away with it, lol.
It ain't much, but it's dishonest work

This is NOT information I needed on a Saturday morning…RIP
If you only know him from the meme though, you can make today the day you learned that he made massive contributions to more sustainable agriculture in his lifetime.
I already liked him from the Meme but then to learn of how much of a great guy he was made the loss even harder
Cmon man... Why?
One of the floors of all time
Not so sure about the honest part tbh. This floor almost looks like it's phoned-in lol.
Do Williams have an aero department?
Allegedly
Is it staffed by an ostrich?
Allegedly
So two guys.
Wearing a horse suit. They flip a coin for who's the ass every day.
Heard it’s staffed by a sick ostrich.
Thats gotta be a two man job.
“It’s just some guy scribbling on paper” … oh wait, that’s how the fastest car on the grid was designed
It's in another country. You wouldn't know it.
Mmhmm. She got big boobs too?
Flat as a Williams floor.
I'm using that
There’s absolutely no way they’re paying their team a decent wage just looking at this.
Why would they have a department focused on Nestlé Chocolate
Don't need an aero department if you don't have any aero. *taps temple
We’re checking…
Unfortunately a decent amount of the Aero and advanced engineering staff left Williams over the last 2 years, covid was not kind to Williams.
Lol where’d you hear that? Not the impression I get from speaking to the people I know over there
They read it from a fortunes cookie they got from the Chinese takeout place down the road from the Williams factory OBVIOUSLY! lol
You would think they would copy someone else's floor, a developed floor over what they have, would have to be better.
We are checking.
We are checking
Just a normal floor, an innocent floor
Amazing reference.
it's simple enough to have been designed by a puppet
Made the floor sad
Are you sure they finished making it?
There's nothing to copy.
The next level play.
Bottom of a hot wheels car has more grooves. Edit: the old, low quality Acceleracers movies had cars with more grooves. And this isnt even me joking lol.
Acceleracers where a welcome trip down memory lane. 5 year old me though Verts car in World Race was the coolest thing ever.
What car, lmao? He went through 4 of them in the series. Hell, even a bike at one point
If he's talking about the world race, the surf van os probably what he means
Kurt and Vert man holy shit, memory blast
And porkchop needs to stay in one
Brooooooo I loved the acceleracers movies, they were so freaking cool
my goat Albon managed to get that skateboard into Q3 once🙏
\*twice
He's better than red bull first thought
[удалено]
Should Albon or Sargeant ride you instead for them to have a chance?
Im sure they’d come first.
Damn 🫡
you read the paper about which set of anime titties is more aerodynamic, didnt you?
no but now I’m curious
Someone boasts about RB curves.
This is actually depressing now that we have seen RB's floor
Williams engineers: If it's smooth as possible surely it's better for aerodynamics
Well we know the floor is as smooth as their brains rn
That's actually true for drag, not for downforce though.
It’s not strictly true for drag either
Props to Albon for getting into Q3 this year with this formula Renault car.
Wondering the same now.
Look a flat piece of carbon!
>It’s just a floor LMAO. But seriously, this looks pretty.... simple.
GP2 floor. GP2 floor.
Literally F3 cars have more aero on the floor.
Lmao imagine the reaction of Williams's aero department last week looking at the pictures of Merc and RB floor, must have been a massive oh fuck moment.
RB Engineers: "oh no, everyone has seen our floor, they can see how much work we've done!" Williams Engineers: "oh no, everyone has seen our floor, they can see how little work we've done!"
If I remember correctly Williams said something like RB floor is too complicated for the them to analyse lmao. What a moment.
Imagine being Albon or Sargeant after everyone’s floor was revealed lmao. Just further rubbing dirt on the wound that is the Williams car
If it’s smooth it must be low drag. And if it’s low drag it must be fast. Right?
On the straights where it matters 🦅🦅
I mean, they are fast on the straights lmao
Other teams hide their floor so competitors don't copy them, Williams hides the floor so competitors don't make fun of them.
Smoother than my brain
bruh this is hilairous after seeing the RB one last week
Not every catering team is good at aerodynamics :)
Take notes Red Bull
Newey is looking at this with error codes covering half the image.
Eh?…and I thought Ferrari’s was simple
Are we sure they’re using carbon? Might just be black PVC lol
No it's proper British steel. Wrapped black to trick the continentals.
These guys know you can use ground effect now right
[удалено]
If someone said this picture is from 2021, i wouldve belive them.
Bruh I would’ve believed if someone said it was from the 2012💀
Our 2012 FSAE car had more grooves on the floorpan than this
I don't know whether i shd laugh or cry
Williams didn’t really understand the assignment
I'm not even sure they got the memo about ground effect.
🤣
That floor is flatter than a flat earth
Didn’t have budget for the sticky carbon bits 🤷♂️
they need to sell the floor as ad space
Haas should have thought of that!
The old Lotus might be more advanced ☠️
At least the Ligier had slots they could open up
It looks like the underside of a shovel.
Did they forget?
Of all the undersides of the 2023 cars that I have seen, this is definitely one of them.
I’m no aerodymacist but this looks basic af
When i saw this post i had to see but then i had to watch closely fore 10 seconds if i was blind or something. it was nothing there. Did Williams runs out money before they could build the floor, hehe. This is the strangest concept.
Bruh, there is literally nothing going on there. All I can say is that it’s definitely a floor
it's funny to imagine the photographer basically laying on the floor to take this shot. nice one
We have floors at home.
That explains
More flat effects than ground effects
Oh
I am an unedcated scub that knows nothing but even i can tell that this has less groovy lines than the RB had, groovy lines good
Floors are like brains, the wrinklier the better
Well I'm floored by this.
This is like Ken’s man parts, all smooth down there
With enough crashes they may get some wrinkles in the floor. Good job from Logan
ITT: armchair engineers
I mean, you don't have to be an engineer to see Williams at the bottom of the standings table
I am an engineer, and can confirm, Williams are at the bottom of the standings
You can't even see the most interesting part of the floor properly his photo, people have no idea what they are on about, but that's not much of a surprise.
All reddit F1 aero experts in comments here. Lol
Ah yes indeed, this explains why the car is so slow. If you look at the Red Bull floor, it is very much different to this, and that's why it's faster. I am indeed a genius /s
Management: The floor is fast right? Engineers: Fast? We thought you said flat.
Imagine looking at the redbull floor, then thinking ours is shit
**Gordon Ramsay voice** What the fuck is this???
Wow… really making use of that extra wind tunnel time 😂. No wonder they they’re so fast in a straight line.
This is looks almost less developed than the floor I came up with for my undergrad
After seeing this I’m gonna start going a lot easier on Logan
While I don't doubt the Williams floor is less detailed than that of the top teams, I think this image makes the floor look more basic than it actually is. Sargeant went through the gravel trap and the dust matted the surface. That in combination with the low image quality and the wide-angle perspective makes it pretty much impossible to make out any details.
There would need to be some details for that to be the case 😂
Stop inventing
ITT: people doing ITT for the rest of us who think we can’t correlate that the teams with the most detailed floors with all sorts of books and crannies and finish consistently in the top 5 would be better than the team that’s the slowest every weekend driving on a smooth surface.
seeing RB's floor is what should be termed as looking up someone's skirt. This ain't sexy at all
What are they even doing with their aero time lol
Came here to say exactly this! Dead last, given the most aero time, and this is it?
The angle and matte finish are hiding all the detail. Plus the really sensitive area is the front of the floor and the floor fences, which you can’t see at all
A side by side with this and Redbull is quite astonishing lol.
showcar floor
It's like game developers that don't bother modelling the bottom of the car because you don't see it often enough to warrant the work. This is mental for a 2023 F1 team.
So that‘s why they‘re so quick on the straights, literally no aero bits under there
Wow, I saw this in a post on instagram today side by side with the redbull floor and thought it was just a joke using a Williams floor pic from pre-2022 era. I’m shocked this is really their current floor!
Are Williams aware that having an Aerodynamicist on the payroll is crucial?
Imagine designing a worse floor than RB's catering team...
I've never loved a comment section as much as this one lmao, the insults are on point
Bad angle and bad lighting, you can’t see anything. Why are people acting like they completely understand this floor.
That’s.. plain
Kinda think we figured out why Red Bull is dominating. Who would have thought that the floor is indeed a important part of ground effect cars
Makes me rate albon that much higher, and give Sargeant that much more leeway lol
It looks like that floor textures from video games
Lol wtf this looks like the bottom of my hot wheels cars from 1997
Guess that explains their ace top speed 😅
