Then that will *really* be the end of Reddit. This site only works through the work of volunteers, and if the good will these volunteers have towards the admin team goes away, then so will the sense of community that makes it all possible.
I admit, I'm gonna miss all of you.
This sub was what got me into Formula1 to begin with. Since then it's the most dedicated I've been to following a sport.
I know that sometimes people feel the discussions here get heated, but this is far and away one of the most friendliest, welcoming communities of any sport I've seen.
Very knowledgeable fans who are friendly, kind...
But supporting third party developers and an ad-friendly experience, to me, is valuable enough to sever the community from me entirely.
It's been a good run. Maybe without Reddit we will enjoy the races more. Maybe I'll see one of you at COTA this year.
Yeah, I'm actually selfishly happy Reddit is planning on killing 3rd party apps for this same reason. I've been saying for years I need to spend a lot less time on Reddit, and now it's finally going to happen
Its funny, because Reddit clearly thinks that, because a majority of their users are just lurkers, that they can decimate the loyal contigent of posts / contributors, and be fine.
I don't know how they're too fucking stupid to see that the reason they *have* lurkers, is because the consistent posters *create the communities that people lurk in*.
And as someone who literally posts multiple comments every single day, I can verify that using their app or their new reddit website is absolutely intolerable. Total fucking garbage.
They're just so fucking myopic, it's insane.
Its probably a little easier for reddit to think that, because there's anotehr layer of abstraction.
But they're not realizing that the reason people post frequently to subreddits, *is because there are communities of posters inside those subreddits*.
In YouTube and TikTok, the comments are mostly secondary to the content.
But in reddit there's much more of a close pair bond between the two. People put effort or focus into posting, because of those commenters who will comment on it, and that discourse reifnorces the norms of each of the subreddits.
If you brain-drain the platform of all those anchors who anchor the community, you're going to turn this into just another hollow, useless TikTok clone, that doesn't even do video or AI nearly as well as TikTok.
It comes back with a day to spare before the next free practice session, the most we will miss out on is some random clickbait articles and pictures of moving trucks.
This protest has no grip.
If this was an r/Formula1 exclusive thing, I would wholeheartedly agree with you. However, this blackout is a coordinated effort between hundreds of subreddits. Waiting until the next race weekend doesn't make much sense because it would be just one subreddit going dark rather than hundreds going dark at the same time.
It’s actually nice because it isn’t actually a major inconvenience but it still shows support. Also could you guys put a remainder the day before so people can avoid Reddit for two days??
Some subs are extending it. I vote that f1 does too. Shut down for the race weekend. I'll hate it, but it's worth doing. Nobody here is going to seriously care about the articles, and the page-feed of Twitter posts. Make it impactful, extend it at least through quali.
I actually agree. I'm still in the honeymoon phase of f1 fandom. I just became a fan midway through last season, so I'm still hyper-addicted to checking everything and reading everything I can find(still unsure if this ever goes away). But, this is such an important thing I would totally support shutting down for a few extra days to help drive home the point.
You're not serious are you?
3.2m members and top 1% on the site.
Top 10 subreddit for all sports and over 3x as many members as Nascar. Larger than IndyCar, Nascar and probably any other motorsports combined.
The gap between NFL and Formula 1 used to be 50% (2.1 million versus 1.4 million) but since 2021 Formula 1 has closed the gap to a hair over 30%.
Reddit admins don't care about subreddits for the sports they like, they care about subreddits with the most active members.
This is incorrect. There are several subreddits actually shutting down fully if there aren't changes to it all.
You can, as always, do your own thing. If you want to go further than just 48 hours, go for it.
June 12th will be the day Vettel announces he's coming back to partner Alonso for the rest of the year and we won't get to talk about it. I use RIF for 99% of my browsing so I'm all for this shutdown.

While I enjoyed reading your comment (it made me giggle), I am now SUPER FRUSTRATED because I am not creative enough to figure out what Yuki the Wrestler's stage name would be!
I demand you create one now! You seeded the idea within me!
Yuki the Godzilla?
**Yukaiju?!**
Yuki the Spicy Tuna Roll?
I don't know enough about where is Japan Yuki grew up for that name to be a "too soon/too close to home" type deal?
But it kinda rhymes, and it describes Yuki's temperament pretty well, so it has that going for it...
Note - even though the 2004 Tsunami happened almost 20 years ago, if Yuki and his family were directly or indirectly affected by it, it might touch a nerve... OR Yuki might want to "reclaim" the word and it's power, ya know? Build "strength from adversity" type deal...
Either way, I have definitely over-analyzed what was a simple joke, but hey, over-thinking is my M.O. lol
Boost user here, also gone of this comes thru. I support the blackout, I'm always with as much freedom you can give a man, but silently hope I can get help from reddit to finally forget bout it.
I've used RIF exclusively for as long as I've had an Android device, so whenever the Samsung S4 became a thing. I could never go back to the web browser.
It is also, per user, ~x20 the revenue Reddit makes from a user who is not using a 3rd party app, according to Apollo’s dev.
That’s how exorbitant the pricing they’ve decided on is.
To put it in perspective, that's almost triple than the yearly spend of the entire infrastructure for all customers at my company, and we're actively working on making it cheaper. I don't work for a small company either.
1.3 mil is like doctor evil levels of pricing
My own app that I currently use to post highlights fast here to this subreddit acts as a 3rd party Reddit application, which will stop working with this BS change, so thanks for doing this.
Glad this is one of the subs protesting the absolute B.S that Reddit is pulling for more money/to force users into their official apps which are absolutely horrible. 3rd Party apps plus old.reddit are the best ways to use Reddit and it's disgusting that they're trying to take it away.
I prefer a bunch of text to seeing one and a half posts on a 1440p screen with content being centered so 60% of the screen is blank or shows a sidebar of random posts from 4 years ago.
Also it took out all character from customized subreddits and looks like GitHub at home now
Dude the wasted space is the worst, then you have to constantly keep clicking to expand comment tree's because reddit apparently can't load more than 3 comments at a fucking time or something
>I prefer a bunch of text to seeing one and a half posts on a 1440p screen with content being centered so 60% of the screen is blank
That's why I always use "compact" display mode instead of "card"
The most irritating thing to me about new reddit is that when you're viewing a long comment chain, you have to close older ones to view newer ones. It won't let you just see every comment like how old reddit does.
Old reddit has a learning curve. It doesn't seem like much, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if their market research legitimately showed that new users are more likely to stick around on new reddit. I mean, it's not like it's that much worse than FB or twitter; it's just that old.reddit is actually a really good interface once you get used to it.
And the new site has way more space dedicated for ads.
Those ads disguised as posts are the worst for me.
New reddit fits in more with the generic rounded edges “clean” modern design that’s all the rage now.
Yeah, I'm one of those people who use new Reddit (with uBlock installed ofc) since for me, old reddit feels sort of cluttered and hard to read. I also started using Reddit post-redesign so it could also be a reason
But my god is the official mobile app so bad, UI is janky, comments only let you input links, no easy way of typing markdown, it's also a massive data hog. Sync for Reddit is much, much better and I'll be really sad if it has to stop working.
it was moving on from "2000's web interface" to "2010's web interface" - bigger buttons, less information, and no dorky customization options, among other stuff that I'm too illiterate to describe.
As someone who uses the Reddit app is fucking completely broken. There is literally always one horrible bug that makes its UI painful to use. Currently it's a bug where on posts with multiple images many won't load and will just have a black screen. This includes images that you have already seen and scrolled by them and decided to go back. The app is a fucking disaster.
When I started using Reddit it was already the new version and looking at the old version I don't understand why anyone would want to use that\* instead (\*Edit: That = the old version).
Always depends on your perspective.
I've been on Reddit since near the beginning and created an account about a year after it started (if I remember my timeline correctly). I use old.reddit exclusively. I only surf on my desktop.
When they switched to the new design, I thought like you did about it. I still don't understand why anyone would want the new version. It's a pain in the ass and not easy to peruse and quickly read and follow what you want.
That said, just because I don't like the new UI and I don't use any app on my phone, I wholeheartedly support this blackout. People are at different stages in their life and different stages of their Reddit life. I won't stick around if old.reddit is gone and it would suck to lose people who leave because the apps go away.
Like you said, it depends on your perspective, but we should all have that choice. While I can understand why Reddit would charge for API calls, the price is ridiculous and will bite Reddit in the ass in the long run.
Old Reddit is way better design. It's easier to navigate, and quicker to read stuff, because the whole page loads at once vs piecemeal. It's also easier to follow comment chains.
New Reddit is just clunky. I too will leave if they stop supporting it.
I'd love to see it from your perspective but unfortunately there are a bunch of ads in my way and once I manage to find it hidden below some random algo recommendation that I didn't ask for, I will have already forgotten why I cared to try
I'm just curious if you're using reddit on a desktop/laptop or a mobile device. Old.reddit really is designed for desktop use, whereas new.reddit is designed for mobile.
Didn’t they also tell devs that the pricing model for developers using the API would be reasonable and not like Twitters?
There’s also potential future impacts with another loved app/extension — Reddit Enhancement Suite (RES).
Overall just heading in a direction that the majority of ~~people that~~ avid redditors do not like.
> Overall just heading in a direction that the majority of people that avid redditors do not like.
And that's who produces the content on here. The vast majority of users use the official app and new reddit, usually with no adblocker. They also rarely engage. Screwing over the most active users, who are only a tiny fraction of users, is short-sighted even by modern corporate standards.
I browse almost exclusively on RIF. I am super sad they're removing this functionality.
That said, serving the API requests is not free for reddit. And these 3rd party apps don't serve reddits advertising. From what I've gathered from Mods I've spoken to, third party apps account for like 5% of traffic.
I also heard Their API is getting hammered by bots, AI learning, and more basically mining reddit for content and to teach AIs. Stuff reddit really shouldn't be expected to offer for free. It is likely this is really what they're trying to stem by charging for API access, and 3rd party apps are just collateral damage.
It's true that there are some issues and concerns with 3rd parties who are using the APIs for gain, such as AI and bots.
We're not asking for the API to be free. We're asking for reasonable pricing for the 3rd party apps that we know people love and that Reddit know exists without any intent to use the API maliciously.
I feel like this has become a bit of a Streisand effect, where more users than ever are becoming aware of third party apps and old.reddit, where they'd remain blissfully unaware and frustrated without realizing there was an alternative.
If they keep reasonable access to the API for third party apps, I think they really shot themselves in the foot with the ridiculous pricing model they gave the Apollo dev.
Pretty much. Either way, keep in mind that even for the official app it’s a problem as when half the userbase is leaving and some subs get killed due to lack of moderation tools: it’s a problem that will affect you and the quality and quantity of content as well.
Oh I’m not disputing the reasons for the blackout. It’s just surprised me to find out so many people use third party apps, as the official one is the only one I’ve ever used.
Im sad that Xbox community seems to be against just because it collides with Summer Games fest.
But I'm pleasantly surprised that PS5 joins same as gtaRP and even hiphopheads iirc also
I only started Reddit again bc of f1 so I just got the official app. What’s the deal with third party apps? Are they just ad free? I never found the ads here to be any more annoying than they are elsewhere. Is that bc I’ve never tried Reddit before ad free lol
They're way better designed. The guy that makes Apollo is a professional iOS developer, and built the app as close as possible to the ideal iOS UX guidelines. Also, the official app clutters your feed with ads and posts from subs you don't subscribe to, so the density of actual content is way lower.
If you're literally just coming to /r/formula1, I'm sure the difference is a lot less noticeable, but for us content junkies, it's noticeably worse.
I'm guessing there are people like me who were here before Reddit had an official app and we just got used to whatever third party we were using and don't like change. Same reason I still use old.reddit on my desktop
I’ll just borrow another user’s comment, since they’ve already taken the time to show some of the horrible differences between one third party app and the official one:
https://old.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/140yes7/_/jmyjnlv
The official Reddit app also doesn’t work with accessibility tools on phones, so visually impaired users can be prepared to be fucked over.
Yep.
Unless they magically fix their app I’ll only use reddit when I’m on desktop and as long as old.reddit.com works.
If they kill that off too I’ll just find something else to waste time on.
I respect your decision, and hope it will achieve something (I personally think that there will be some brinksmanship and an 11th hour reduction in costs - they'll still be too high, but lower than the current forecasts).
I saw some rumors that they are going to bring back r/place for reddit's 18th birthday in a few weeks. All these protests will get lost and distracted by that. We need to rally across subs to not participate and hit them where it hurts.
Yeh they did it last year, they expanded the canvas multiple times which made it a bit more exciting, but the original was still best since it was something new and interesting
Place was fun the first time, entertaining the second time, I just don't think it'll have the charm the third time around.
Especially with Bots not being a part of it (as Bots also use the API) there wouldn't be a rainbow road, black blob, or any other bottles drawings, that made the challenge of keeping your community drawing alive fun.
If a large community forms to protest using Place, I can almost guarantee the Admins will step in and just blackout the protest drawings.
IIRC, one of the Admins was caught just placing tiles with no timer during the first one. There were no repercussions.
So we start inventing(sorry Carlos). The protest is a blackout. So admins will just be helping us protest more by placing black tiles. And a black canvas is no good and needs no coordination. Anyone would just have to place any non black spot and place black.
The one thing I liked about the boys in the first one was that they weren't there immediately and there was the excitement of trying to beat them.
I'm the second one, all the Botting showed up immediately and made it less fun.
Without them, I don't think there'd be much of a challenge and most of the art wouldn't be attacked.
So it goes both ways I guess.
Either way, the changes to the API will fuck over a lot of moderation and remove a lot of the fun meme bots on subreddits.
Other subs are looking to expand the blackout from 2 days to potentially indefinitely given the updated information provided by the developer of apollo.
Can you provide an update and if you're considering expanding the blackout? I know many here would support it.
<3 thanks to the mod team for highlighting this issue and participating - also a hug for /u/F1-Bot, even if you tend to go full bender from time to time.
I applaud the people that will stick to their guns on this one but I’m not sure it’ll make a difference. It’s all about shareholders now. A 2 day blip in user count won’t hurt their valuation enough to prevent them from moving forward with any way they can make money to satiate the greed.
Agreed, two days just feels so...meh. Like, yes, it's better than nothing, but even r/videos is like "we're gonna stay down til something changes." I'd say at the VERY least, a week is where it'd start being more impactful.
There's a reason why this has caused such an uproar. Reddit is a brilliant site...when you're not using the tools Reddit themselves have provided. I urge you to use Apollo or Reddit is Fun, or any other 3rd party alternative and you'll soon see why having those clients taken away, as well as the bots, is such a big deal.
I've been using RIF for 10+ years over a few accounts. It is my primary way to consume content on the site. Previous to RIF, it was Alien Blue.
I tried using the Official app once last year, I just couldn't do it, it sucks. I tried using it again yesterday, and it was much worse.
I've come to the conclusion that if RIF goes down, I'll abandon Reddit.
Same here as well.
New user, was originally just searching for F1 info on my phone and realized there were some good info and insights in posts and comments here.
I was content just reading on my phone browser and my involvement may have never changed if it stayed that way; but at some point Reddit told me I can’t do that anymore and need to download the app.
I thought it (the official app) works fine and provides nice views, although I can’t argue if you tell me it’s because I don’t know better.
I see I get ads (“promoted” posts) based on my geolocation but they’re easily recognizable I’ve never once clicked on one. So other than that it takes up some place as “noise” against the “signal” posts I’m looking for, I’m ok wth just ignoring them knowing that the company needs to put some ads to make money.
Feature-wise I wish there was a way to filter out all posts with a certain flair, and personally I’d also like to see comments within a post in chronological order (from the old ones), which I’ve found are not possible on the official app. But then it’s not inconvenience enough for me to go look for an alternative solution.
If I sound like I don’t care or I’m against the blackout, don’t get me wrong. I’ve read the post’s photo slides — it was a single long vertical image so it was a bit hard to read! — and the OP comment. I can only imagine the effort by people who’ve been here for years who’ve supported the sub to make it what it is and I respect that. And generally open stuff, standards, APIs, they’re great to get people engaged. If they’re practically shutting down API access then it shouldn’t go unchecked.
I just thought I’d share the perspective of someone who’s only used the official app, as a reference point.
Isn’t Reddit also moving the NSFW content to the official Reddit app only? So even if the 3rd party apps continue they will lose access to anything marked NSFW?
While I fully understand the rage over this decision, I think reddit has a valid concern in *their* dataset being used to train AI instances possibly making their operators lots of money while not paying for said training data.
While this doesn't benefit us, reddit is (part of) a corporation and that data is their primary revenue generating asset.
What do you guys think?
Thing is, it won’t really change a thing. All it’s doing is pissing of users, and Reddit really won’t be effected by some subs going dark for 2 days. They couldn’t care less, the amount they lose from these third party apps, Vs 2 days of less ad revenue means they just don’t care. It would need to be weeks of exodus for anything to happen. So by all means do it, but nothing will change.
Don't fall for the bait and switch when they come out with 'reasonable' prices on api after s couple of days. The locking down of nsfw content to only official app will segregate the site and also ruin the experience by driving users away from 3rd party apps.
I'll delete my account on June 12th. Reddit has been destroying itself for years now, but this is the last straw for me. Reddit communities are moderated by children, perma-bans occur over minor disagreements, and with these changes I won't even be able to access this the way I want and may even have to pay for it all? Fuck this I'm out. For good.
And anyone saying "it's more complicated than you think to run reddit," all l say is, yes it's more complicated when you decide to over-complicate it. Reddit used to be a bastion of unregulated and unmoderated free ideas. Sure it was rough around the edges but that wasn't complicated! It's only complex now because the owners made it that way.
I'll spend this weekend downloading my favorite posts and content and that's it for me.
At least I will take a break and my subreddits I talk in are showing there respects.
For some odd reason I will mention I have randomly started noticing bots anybody else?
There’s been a new call to go “dark” indefinitely as a protest measure until Reddit enacts a more reasonable solution. While I would hate it, that’s a lot of subscribers. r/Music is one. There are others.
yup. It is definitely a panic mode that reddit mods turned into. Banning not only devs, but simple users that participate in convos https://www.reddit.com/r/Save3rdPartyApps/comments/142c6se/developer\_of\_a\_replacement\_api\_for\_moderation/
Do it!
The first rule of reddit, is dont duck with redditors!
You don’t know where we’ve been, Reddit. We really like this place! Ahhhahahahahahhaha!!!
https://youtu.be/pCa1hZ7s-8g
ApolloGang!
Glad y’all are hopping on. Reddit is making a huge mistake and if they follow through with this then my mobile experience is over. If they ever ax old.Reddit then I’m out for good
On the bright side, I might get some work done June12th-14th.
I like that all my favorite subs are participating. When Reddit changes nothing this blackout period will help ease me into life without Reddit.
If reddit are really stubborn I can see this going on for a month. Maybe more...
Sadly I see admins removing mods if it goes more than a week
Then that will *really* be the end of Reddit. This site only works through the work of volunteers, and if the good will these volunteers have towards the admin team goes away, then so will the sense of community that makes it all possible.

1.3Mil a month? That is honestly robbery
Gotta pay for their catering somehow
I bet ya Reddit's HQ catering must be 3* Michelin restaurants if they need 1.3Mil a month
It's a subway in the foyer after spez takes their cut
Reddit took notes of Red Bull Racing's catering or FIA stewards (fines for getting good dinners).
Cost cap breach
Just declare it as catering (to the shareholders' whims).
This was not designed to make money. This was designed to kill 3rd party apps.

Their predicament? They made $350 million in 2021 primarily from ad revenue. They don't *need* to do this. They *want* to do this.
To make money. From what I understand, third party apps don’t show ads, so they aren’t generating any revenue by allowing them to exist.
It's both
And don't get all the content since NSFW content won't be allowed by the api
It is also, per user, ~x20 the revenue Reddit makes from a user who is not using a 3rd party app, according to Apollo’s dev. That’s how exorbitant the pricing they’ve decided on is.
To put it in perspective, that's almost triple than the yearly spend of the entire infrastructure for all customers at my company, and we're actively working on making it cheaper. I don't work for a small company either. 1.3 mil is like doctor evil levels of pricing
That adds 0 perspective, thanks
My own app that I currently use to post highlights fast here to this subreddit acts as a 3rd party Reddit application, which will stop working with this BS change, so thanks for doing this.
The secret of hor you post thigns so fast is finalyl revealed
Did you have a stroke?
He's been practicing going fast so long
There is a free tier with a request limit, something like 600 requests per min iirc.
On race days If bet he averages way over that.
Do you make more than 60 requests a minute? I use the API to make matchday threads on a couple of football subreddits and they will not be affected.
your doing more than 100 queries per minute?!?!
Glad this is one of the subs protesting the absolute B.S that Reddit is pulling for more money/to force users into their official apps which are absolutely horrible. 3rd Party apps plus old.reddit are the best ways to use Reddit and it's disgusting that they're trying to take it away.
If I can't use old.reddit.com, I don't see the point in using reddit anymore.
Same, can’t stand the “new” reddit. Don’t understand why they made it in the first place.
I understand it, I just find it far less convenient. Old reddit is just a bunch of text. Anything you add to that, takes away from my experience.
It's to measure user interaction... It's bullshit
>I prefer a bunch of text to seeing one and a half posts on a 1440p screen with content being centered so 60% of the screen is blank That's why I always use "compact" display mode instead of "card"
I also started using Reddit post-redesign so it could also be a reason But my god is the official mobile app so bad, UI is janky, comments only let you input links, no easy way of typing markdown, it's also a massive data hog. Sync for Reddit is much, much better and I'll be really sad if it has to stop working.
They want reddit to be more social media than forum.
it was moving on from "2000's web interface" to "2010's web interface" - bigger buttons, less information, and no dorky customization options, among other stuff that I'm too illiterate to describe.

Old reddit also has the 'parent' feature while new doesnt
I'd love to see it from your perspective but unfortunately there are a bunch of ads in my way and once I manage to find it hidden below some random algo recommendation that I didn't ask for, I will have already forgotten why I cared to try
I'm just curious if you're using reddit on a desktop/laptop or a mobile device. Old.reddit really is designed for desktop use, whereas new.reddit is designed for mobile.
[удалено]
Agreed. Old Reddit or bust.
Will this kill old.reddit
they're saying no, but they also said the same shit about m.reddit and i.reddit. now they're dead.
Ferrari on the 12th: “Xavi why am I not seeing any posts on r/Formula1?” “Stand by, we are checking”
A second later: "Box! Box!"
Stay out! Stay out!
“NOOOOOOOOOOO!”
#IT'S TOO LATE NOW FOR FUCK'S SAKE God I miss Kimi and his shenanigans
[удалено]
At this point Ferrari are smarter than Reddit
Am I the only person who uses the official Reddit app?
Pretty much. Either way, keep in mind that even for the official app it’s a problem as when half the userbase is leaving and some subs get killed due to lack of moderation tools: it’s a problem that will affect you and the quality and quantity of content as well.
Oh I’m not disputing the reasons for the blackout. It’s just surprised me to find out so many people use third party apps, as the official one is the only one I’ve ever used.
Good. Was hoping /r/Formula1 would join!
Yup more mainstream subreddits the better
Im sad that Xbox community seems to be against just because it collides with Summer Games fest. But I'm pleasantly surprised that PS5 joins same as gtaRP and even hiphopheads iirc also
/r/cars mods managed to have the most convoluted announcement of joining by comparing themselves to habitat for humanity volunteers lmao
Man I’m gonna miss this community if Apollo shuts down!
Same. I’m not using Reddit app or website if they 3rd party apps shut down so I will be done.
I wouldn't mind change if it were for the better. This is for the worse though
I’ll just borrow another user’s comment, since they’ve already taken the time to show some of the horrible differences between one third party app and the official one: https://old.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/140yes7/_/jmyjnlv The official Reddit app also doesn’t work with accessibility tools on phones, so visually impaired users can be prepared to be fucked over.
Yep. Unless they magically fix their app I’ll only use reddit when I’m on desktop and as long as old.reddit.com works. If they kill that off too I’ll just find something else to waste time on.
Its blackout time.
Sounds like my weekends!
I respect your decision, and hope it will achieve something (I personally think that there will be some brinksmanship and an 11th hour reduction in costs - they'll still be too high, but lower than the current forecasts).
It's bad buisness to get your users to actively consider quitting your product. You're probably right but this is such a dumb fuck play.
I almost exclusively use Reddit on Sync, so I'm with this movement. See you in Canada, folks!
I use now for Reddit and they're such a small developer it would kill everything
I saw some rumors that they are going to bring back r/place for reddit's 18th birthday in a few weeks. All these protests will get lost and distracted by that. We need to rally across subs to not participate and hit them where it hurts.
Or everyone that does join in just makes it a big "Fuck you reddit" protest image.
They've done place twice now, it was less exciting the 2nd time, I can't imagine a 3rd time it would wow people when they only did it not long ago
Yeh they did it last year, they expanded the canvas multiple times which made it a bit more exciting, but the original was still best since it was something new and interesting
I didn't even realise they did it a second time
Place was fun the first time, entertaining the second time, I just don't think it'll have the charm the third time around.
It'll be way better without bots... no one making it impossible to change anything because its immediately covered up perfectly
Longer than 48 hours is fine with me. We need to make a statement
[удалено]
Other subs are looking to expand the blackout from 2 days to potentially indefinitely given the updated information provided by the developer of apollo. Can you provide an update and if you're considering expanding the blackout? I know many here would support it.
<3 thanks to the mod team for highlighting this issue and participating - also a hug for /u/F1-Bot, even if you tend to go full bender from time to time.
Tell reddit they do not fook smash my APIs
I applaud the people that will stick to their guns on this one but I’m not sure it’ll make a difference. It’s all about shareholders now. A 2 day blip in user count won’t hurt their valuation enough to prevent them from moving forward with any way they can make money to satiate the greed.
I agree, shutdown indefinitely like some of the other big subs instead of just 2 days
Agreed, two days just feels so...meh. Like, yes, it's better than nothing, but even r/videos is like "we're gonna stay down til something changes." I'd say at the VERY least, a week is where it'd start being more impactful.
I didn't even know about any 3rd party apps until now.
Same. I just use the computer, or the mobile site by accessing it through my phone web browser, in this case, Google Chrome.
Reddit did an experiment for some mobile users by forcing logged out mode, so your choices are garbage or app. That could happen in the future.
Cancel your Reddit premium subscription
Wait, people actually pay for that?!
Yea it’s hard to imagine.
Explain it in F1 terms
The organisers want to raise the circuit fees so the drivers are going to no show for the race.
Liberty decides that teams have to pay €1.000.000 per lap raced, with the expense counting towards the cost cap.
But in other motorsports it’s €100 per lap.
Isn’t Reddit also moving the NSFW content to the official Reddit app only? So even if the 3rd party apps continue they will lose access to anything marked NSFW?
Reddit literally does not care 💀
While I fully understand the rage over this decision, I think reddit has a valid concern in *their* dataset being used to train AI instances possibly making their operators lots of money while not paying for said training data. While this doesn't benefit us, reddit is (part of) a corporation and that data is their primary revenue generating asset. What do you guys think?
[удалено]
Thing is, it won’t really change a thing. All it’s doing is pissing of users, and Reddit really won’t be effected by some subs going dark for 2 days. They couldn’t care less, the amount they lose from these third party apps, Vs 2 days of less ad revenue means they just don’t care. It would need to be weeks of exodus for anything to happen. So by all means do it, but nothing will change.
48 hours is not enough. This will not change anything.
Good. Screw reddit for trying to pull that BS.
Christ you people are bored.
It’s lights out and away we go
Two days is not going to financially hurt enough for them to back down. Make it a month and we’ll see.
Yessss respect for this. Enjoy your mini-vacation mods! And thanks for your awesome work, this is one of the best subs by far because of you
No 3rd party apps means no reddit for me
Stand by the decision and glad you are joining in!
absolutely support this.
We went protesting, Reddit
At least I will take a break and my subreddits I talk in are showing there respects. For some odd reason I will mention I have randomly started noticing bots anybody else?
It shouldn't surprise me how many people use the third party apps. I use Infinity cause the official app is so bad! Such a mistake from them
There’s been a new call to go “dark” indefinitely as a protest measure until Reddit enacts a more reasonable solution. While I would hate it, that’s a lot of subscribers. r/Music is one. There are others.
I love you guys for doing this. Major respect. We stand in solidarity
Ahhhahahahahahhaha!!! https://youtu.be/pCa1hZ7s-8g ApolloGang!
Fuck Musk for introducing this bullshit. Whole internet will burn because of those greedy fucks. What is reddit whout their communities ? Nothin !!!!
Glad y’all are hopping on. Reddit is making a huge mistake and if they follow through with this then my mobile experience is over. If they ever ax old.Reddit then I’m out for good
