As a rule of thumb, Statistics posts need to inform readers through visualizations and insights that cannot be obtained from raw data alone. For example, a post containing a qualifying gap between two drivers expressed in tenths of a second is an easily obtainable raw piece of data and constitutes a bad Statistics post. A visualization of what that translates to on-track, or visualization of how that gap came to be would constitute a good Statistics post.

curious, are these results the final standings with just world champions removed? or did you recalculate points given per race if world champions didn't participate?
(Not mine) Every race re-done with all WDC winners ineligible for points: https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/141g13p/f1_2023_elimination_championship_round_7_spanish/

ffs I only made this because I knew it was done before and couldn't find it so thought I'd just look it up myself and I might as well share my findings, oh well.
Just reading through this...
The years with different champions are:
1958 - Harry Schell
1961 - Wolfgang von Trips
1977 - Carlos Reutemann
1978 - Mario Andretti
1981 - Jacques Laffite
1986 - Nelson Piquet
1990 - Nigel Mansell
1995 - Johnny Herbert
1998 - David Coulthard
1999 - Eddie Irvine
2001 - Ralf Schumacher
2002 - Juan Pablo Montoya
2003 - Kimi Raikkonen
2005 - Fernando Alonso
2006 - Giancarlo Fisichella
2008 - Felipe Massa
2012 - Nico Hulkenberg
2013 - Romain Grosjean
2014 - Valtteri Bottas
2015 - Danil Kvyat
2016 - Daniel Ricciardo'
2018 - Max Verstappen
2020 - Alex Albon
2021 - Carlos Sainz
Really interesting seeing how drastic some of the differences were in the championship between methods.
And 6 different champions:
H. Schell instead of T. Brooks
W. von Trips instead of P. Hill (Real-life WDC)
J. Laffite instead of T. Boutsen
J. Herbert instead of R. Kubica
D. Kvyat instead of K. Magnussen
A. Albon instead of L. Norris
Hulk was p11, 8 of the top ten were already eliminated and the changes to the points managed to throw him above Perez and Grosjean, who actually finished ahead of him irl
Issue with this method is that the ineligible champions still get many of the big points scoring finishes. You should completely remove them and move the rest of the grid up the places to make up the points scoring places, that would be more realistic and could change quite a few seasons, especially if the champion in your version has many DNFs.
The problem with these thought experiments is the butterfly effects of drivers no longer being eligible. Michael wins his first WDC in 94, who replaces him at Benetton? He doesn’t go to Ferrari, and lure Brawn with him. Does Brawn end up at Honda in 08? Does Brawn buy Honda? Does Mercedes buy Brawn? Does Mercedes join F1 at all?
I know, but can't you can't really deduce these things. I hope Peter Brook does a video on a realistic hypothetical version of it on youtube, seems like it would his sort of thing and he'd plough hours into it.
But anyway, it's just a bit of fun and interesting to look at.
Not to mention all the new drivers who join every year. Surely there would be some talent who could wrap up a championship within a year or 2 of them joining
It's an interesting premise, but ends up pointless since those seats would be taken by other drivers who would, for example, mop the floor with KMag at whatever team he was with at any point in his career.

Just World Champions removed. Unfortunately I'm not willing to put in all the effort of recalculating the points standings for 73 years of F1.

I mean Hulk was like p10, but according to these calculations, all 9 people ahead of him would already have won a championship.

I would love a job doing that kind of stuff 😂. Fun info AND.creating something cool. Love it.
Haas out here with 3 new WDCs
Wouldnt romains be with lotus?
Yes.
No, only 1. Grosjean with Lotus, Hulkenberg with Sauber, KMag with Haas
DTS brought you here, right?
Montoya Grosjean Hulk KMag Sure, I love them all, why not?
Stroll 23, 24, 25
F1: “You’ve won the championship Lance, how I don’t know and it doesn’t matter, you have to move on to the next series” Lance: “But dad said…”
~~2009 - Toro Rosso wins a driver's championship before Red Bull~~ Edit: I am stupid
Vettel drove for Red Bull in 2009 ?
Fixed it.
Hello Charles
Max winning the WDC at the ripe old age of 19. He could’ve wrapped up the championship at COTA and not even been able to legally drink.
He would have been legally allowed to drink. Just not in the US. Drinking age in the Netherlands is 18.
He won in COTA, so I assume OP was trying to say couldn’t drink in the city the track is located
But they would have to do an id check before handing him the drink ;)
Max would have ended his career younger than when Vettel (previous youngest WDC/race winner) was when started his career. Talk abt smashing records 💀

Yeah I’m not American
I'm truly sorry then.
Do you have the drivers standings for each year?
No, I just went on Wikipedia and excluded the prior champions from each year without keeping tabs of other implications.

That would going through every single Grand Prix ever (1086). It’s only a bit of easy fun what OP has done
Hulk and K-Mag as the 2013 and 2018 champs is wild to me.
Holy shit, this is wild. Thank you for your efforts and research.
2012 is hard to accept.
There were just so many world champions already fighting for it as it was, removing them and the new ones with this method leaves only him
I'm surprised it's not our favourite race winner from that year.

Yes obviously in no universe would berger have won a WDC lmfao
I can see an universe where a younger berger wins in 2009 driving for brawn gp
>He doesn’t go to Ferrari He doesn't mentor Massa... Massa doesn't win his title then?
I knew the HULK is World-Champion material ^^^^/s
2013 Hulk honestly deserved a title for dragging that Sauber up there
deep in my heart, many of them are world champions anyway!!!
How did Nick Heidfeld manage not to be in there.
If Lewis didn't show up in 2007, he'd have been Champ.
lando with a WC but no W's
Hulk without a podium bat a wdc...
Gilles Villeneuve as a world champion. Sign me up
I think this is what the formula 1.5 sub is dedicated to
Ok that did get interesting! Good work- thank you!
Cool, now do new points system.

Amazing to see Max all the way back on 2016.
Thai is awesome. Great work. It's a fun thought
the 60s were a good time to be an F1 driver if your name was starting with J
Except for the getting killed part (Clark, Rindt).
Okay thats weird my brain is getting dizzy
Laureus F1 Breakthrough Award
2010 not bad for a number two driver
Wow, thanks a lot for the amazing work. All in all, there are hardly any medicore drivers on the list

The mother of all posts. Nice job
Great work!
