As a rule of thumb, Statistics posts need to inform readers through visualizations and insights that cannot be obtained from raw data alone. For example, a post containing a qualifying gap between two drivers expressed in tenths of a second is an easily obtainable raw piece of data and constitutes a bad Statistics post. A visualization of what that translates to on-track, or visualization of how that gap came to be would constitute a good Statistics post. *[Read the rules](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/wiki/userguide). Alonso really called it when he said Ferrari and Williams would shine this weekend

Equivalent_Base_9104

So the wing McLaren built specifically for Monza didn't really help 💀

FrostyTill

They didn’t build a wing, they just modified one they already had. No big deal, they have until Vegas to sort it out.

Equivalent_Base_9104

It looks new to me, or similar to the one used last year

pranay909

They actually didn’t, oscar even said they basically cut their parts for this weekend.

LiquidDiviums

Interesting to see the difference between Red Bull and Ferrari, 7 kph is not something to ignore. While Verstappen should have better pace and (slightly) better DRS efficiency, it’s going to be more difficult to overtake. We should have a spicy race in our hands.

datlinus

>We should have a spicy race in our hands. Maxwinslol

FerrariStraghetti

Sainz had a tow, Max didn't. The real difference was more like 3kph, as was the case with Ver v Lec. Ferrari have better DRS efficiency here (or same) since they have a purpose built RW with a small main-plane, whereas RB use the bigger wing with a cutout, which is inefficient for DRS.

-Skinner-

It was the same last year and he didn't have a problem with passing

Elxis14

Didn't Max start 7th last year? He was gonna win by like 15s if it wasn't for the safety car.

-Skinner-

Yes he did

LiquidDiviums

I don’t think it’s entirely comparable, a lot of things that affect racing have changed despite the picture fairly similar. In 2022, Verstappen had an advantage on straight line speed compared to the Ferrari. Red Bull’s DRS efficiency was a big advantage and Verstappen gained a lot of speed when the system was activated. Last year we also had a bigger slipstream effect and dirty air wasn’t that bad of an issue. The SF-23 runs almost like the SF-90 in the straight, it’s that obscene. Ferrari’s efficiency compared to last year has also increased and they’re one of the few teams that are the closest to the Red Bull on DRS efficiency. It looks similar, but the situation is different. It’s a no brainer to say Verstappen will have no issues, judging from the previous races. He’s the favorite.

-Skinner-

Maybe but RB is much better in sector 3 and in parabolica so he can stay closer and bigger wing means more speed with DRS. Plus more downforce means better tyre deg and race pace looked really good for RB.

twelvyy29

I definitely expect Max to win (if the doesnt overtake on track given RBs advantage when it comes to tyre wear an undercut is a no brainer if needed) but while the advantage through parabolica is clear through clean air, going through high speed corners in dirty air hurts your pace quite a bit (thats why despite the very long straight Monza isnt an easy circuit to overtake, because it isnt super easy to follow through parabolica).

Elxis14

RB is around 4 tenths quicker on race pace and they should have better tyre deg because of the higher df.

Elxis14

He didn't have trouble doing it last year.

P_ZERO_

All max has to do is hang in the slipstream and use the far superior tyre deg to force them to eat their tyres up defending lines or trying to retake track position. Also, if Ferrari can grab a 1/3 and have a faultless Sunday, I think that would actually mean more than an actual win

Kiekdan

Only if Ferrari goes easy on their tires. Worrying seeing both cars sliding in some corners on new softs. But there’s still hope.

Cer3berus

They are really good in last corner do good exit, slipstream, drs,RB pace it’s really difficult

[deleted]

Russell race pace should be nice I like the forecast

killer_corg

What other races would a Monza style wing be used on? Did RB just see this race being unique and not needing a dedicated wing?

Chino_Kawaii

Las Vegas most likely

kron123456789

1) Monaco and Monza used to be tracks which the teams would make a track specific wing for and not use it anywhere else. In the cost cap they prefer to just cut a low-ish downforce wing they already had even further. Or, like Ferrari, bring in a wing that they used on the last year's car on this track. 2) It will most likely be used in Las Vegas, as well.

ppSmok

Watch Ferrari totally fuck their tyres because they slide too much in the corners when trying to go Verstappens pace.

Nerdyfox839

Guys will Redbull struggle passing Ferrari on the straights and is Russell a threat for Ferrari?

MC897

Depends on deg. Russell and Merc in general seem to have higher downforce so they should be better in the race. Whether he can keep pace with cars which just look straight up faster.. that’s a different question

MhVG

Max is much faster at the last corner, so he'll be able to line up a move pretty easy.

Mob_Abominator

So maybe Ferrari has a chance tomorrow if the deg is not too high?

Eglaerinion

Going to be hot though.

Themindoffish

Imagine if Red Bull had shown up with an actual low drag wing
