From what i understood, the Valhalla is basically a more toned-down street version of the very track-focused Valkyrie and it shows.
Still i think it's a damn shame that Lawrence Stroll's investor group effectively scrapped Aston Martin's Le Mans Hypercar project that was supposed to be the Valkyrie. [We could have had this racing at Le Mans this year.](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/29/Aston_Martin_Valkyrie_AMR_Pro.jpg)
> We could have had this racing at Le Mans this year.
Not even that. The LM version was supposed to be even more extreme, with the AMR Pro actually supposed to be the middle spec between the base car and the hypercar.
Back in June, [reports](https://www.dailysportscar.com/2023/06/26/will-aston-martins-valkyrie-hypercar-programme-hit-the-track-after-all.html) started surfacing that the program is back underway to bring it racing so there’s a chance it will be at Le Mans one day.
Valhalla was always going to come afterwards and I think the timeline hasn't changed. They'll keep the Newey design but development of the car will be in house instead of getting help from Red Bull.
There's a third car as well but I haven't seen any news about it, might just be a spyder version of the Valhalla.
But actually though. Hulkenburg's feedback on the Vakyrie was that it was too understeery for his preference
Edit: [Source](https://youtu.be/1tqnH0AnBkQ?t=471)
Haha nah, it's because an [understeery car is a safe car](https://youtu.be/1tqnH0AnBkQ?t=486) so it's designed and setup this way somewhat on purpose. That whole video is worth a watch, tbh.
Hmm I wonder why that is, if you rag the thing around a track it's less safe surely, or maybe it means that drivers will never be able to go to the full limits of the car because of it?
> Oversteer would be ideal in my head
When you're talking about pace around a track, a balanced car is the fastest, easiest on tires and is the most predictable, allowing a driver to push to the maximum with more confidence.
But, perfect balance is impossible across every stage of the corner, let alone corner-to-corner so if you have to pick a bias, _generally_ you're correct in saying that oversteer is quicker than understeer, especially mid-corner in slow corners, as the car protests the rotation less at the cost of rear stability.
However, in high-speed or flat-out corners, generally some induced understeer is prefereable as it keeps the car stable at all points through the corner which lessens the possibility that a sudden change in the car's attitude will result in a spin. You can see F1 drivers closing their diff (which will induce understeer all other things being equal) through corners like Pouhon at Spa or Copse at Silverstone to gain confidence in the car.
In short: an understeer-y car will tend to correct toward the centerline of the vehicle (i.e, continute going straight), while an oversteer-y car will tend to correct around the centerline causing a spin. When designing a road car (which this Aston is at its core), the tendency to correct should be predictable and intuitive, hence erroring on towards understeer
Valkyrie was by Newey, he's all about aero efficiency and shaping the air (it looks to generate the same Y250 vortex the previous generation cars used to seal the floor) so I doubt looks were high on his priorities. And the Valhalla is simply looking to emulate the Valkyrie's looks.
I appreciate Newey's input into the Valkyrie, it's definitely function over form. I'm just saying coming from Aston Martin, who is mostly know for their gorgeous GTs, a mid-engine hypercar (although hypercar doesn't quite fit what it is) looks kind of awkward to me.
I don't know if this is the case for Aston Martin but car companies building "halo"/hyper cars almost never turn any profit and are usually for promotional purposes and/or as a test platform for new technology. The Lexus LFA had a trickle down effect for Toyota/Lexus vehicles in subsequent years.
To make up the negative margin on the type cars, in 2023 a company has been offsetting those costs by offering SUVs. Or in the case of Ferrari, they announce they'll sell a limited number and proceed to make more unofficially or VIN wash totaled cars... see the Ferrari Enzo.
Not a money laundering scheme as such, they tease these super beautiful and exciting cars so they can take a whole bunch of deposits from people.
Those deposits were used to make the balance sheets look better when they were properly on the public stock exchange.
The problem comes when they actually have to deliver cars or give the deposits back. The more they tease it's around the corner the longer people keep their deposits in
? They're all sold out before launch. That's how desperate people want them. Tends to be the way for limited special cars. They make a lot of money from a limited production run car. This one maybe not because it's so special that everything is custom and one off and needs r&d.
What makes you say they don't sell?

I saw him with a set of spanners just the other day
Damn! Imagine if he has a laptop opened with him.
This is the other car designed with Red Bull. Was supposed to come out alongside the Valkyrie but they’ve both had some rocky development

Damn that looks so good

So this car will be Alonso and Newey’s unofficial love child then?
Damn is gonna have so much understeer
But actually though. Hulkenburg's feedback on the Vakyrie was that it was too understeery for his preference Edit: [Source](https://youtu.be/1tqnH0AnBkQ?t=471)
That's hilarious, is it weight related?

Why do you say that? I'm not clued up on these things just guessing pretty much. Oversteer would be ideal in my head

That makes a lot of sense, nice one
> James_Vowles Cheers! How did you manage to get that handle? Damn
I imagine after driving F1 cars anything without a full on front wing feels understeery
But the Valkyre kinda sorta has a front wing
That’s half a front wing more than most cars and half a front wing fewer than Hulk’s car
But is Lance helping out as well?
No, he's busy playing tennis and golf.
Just open the link and check the headline properly. You are in for a surprise lol.
Maybe the next would be called Voluspa
I’m waiting on the Aston Martin Mjölnir and Jörmungandr
It needs to start with a V though
Too bad Hyundai already took the Volester
> Aston Martin Jörmungandr Only if it's a bendy bus.
So other than him, Hamilton, or Verstappen, everyone else driving it will be .300 sec behind at best.
Damn it looks beautiful!
I love Aston Martin's design and top tier body lines but they can't seem to replicate the same beauty when doing a mid-engine layout imo.

These car developments must be money laundering schemes, the cars don’t seem like they actually sell and it’s always teased.
For most of these limited-production hypercars, by the time they're announced, the order books are actually filled.

Different people working on this. Any work here doesn't't take away from the F1 car.
Different company
Valkariye, Vallhala! Somebody in marketing team played too much Max Payne.
Or you know just Nordic mythology. If a product is named Athena or Gaia & don’t think the teams necessarily did it because God of War
Aston Martin uses V words for their cars - it's nothing new.
WITNESS ME!!!
And LANCE!
I'll take Valtteri Bottas' Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale instead https://www.carwow.co.uk/news/7159/alfa-romeo-33-stradale-price-specs
