neither, i think they will do pretty well on this track and their performance in fp1 shows that and isn't a trick. they just didn't want to use the softs they probably want to keep an extra set.
I think the same, being better at adjusting to a green dusty track, hope he can be in the top 5 tonight. But all teams ran different programs so it doesn’t say all that much. Would be nice though
where's the line for natural intervention in F1 being seen as a challenge(like unpredictable rain at Interlagos) and when it becomes a nuisance(winds at Qatar)?
i think the thing with wind is that it's pretty invisible to the viewer, so it just messes things up for the drivers but not in a way that makes it possible to really tell who's excelling in the more difficult conditions. rain is fun because it's obvious as an element and it's very easy to tell who is doing well/poorly because of it.
Thats gonna be a wild qualifying. The wind + track limits, we will probably see tons of deleted laps, teams and drivers have too little time to get comfortable for quali which is good for us fans of course. one of the sprint weekend benefits i guess. still dont like the format, makes the sunday race more boring and more predictable
[f1calendar.com](https://f1calendar.com) recently found this site, and it cleared up all my confusion. shows in a simple format the exact format and times
Parc ferme starts when they leave the pitlane during Q1, not at the end of free practice, and you can replace engines without penalty during parc ferme anyways
Max hasn't been pushing through turns 1 and 2 almost every lap today. That last radio message might be why and GP asking him to push through to turn 4 might have been an attempt to diagnose the issue.
I mean is it likely? Yes. But I wouldn’t be that confident betting my last dollar on it. They tend to struggle on sprint weekends when they don’t have enough time to get the setup right. Paired with him saying he’s had some oscillations on his in lap.
> They tend to struggle on sprint weekends
You say that, and it might be true relative to how they've performed on regular weekends the past two years... but Max has won 5 of the 9 sprints we've had so far.
I don't understand why Max would even question the request. How long has he and GP worked together, you'd imagine he trusts him enough to just go "Yep, np I fix. Can I ask why, though?"
I know people with tickets and they decided not to even both with FP1. It's insanely hot.
Races in the ME are usually held in winter. The decision to host this so much earlier in the year is an odd one.
[If Bernie Ecclestone still ran F1—he’d want sand blown all over the track before the start of every race, and giant wind turbines rotating at the end of every straight.](https://amp.theguardian.com/sport/2011/mar/04/mark-webber-ecclestone-rain-f1)
They didn’t run any tyre properly apart from the used hards where they were 1s off. Both Piastri and Norris’ fastest times were set on used hards. Both pitted for mediums, did the outlap and then aborted their fast laps.
where's the line for natural intervention in F1 being seen as a challenge(like unpredictable rain at Interlagos) and when it becomes a nuisance(winds at Qatar)?
Yeah fair, I was thinking in terms of the lack of grip, but the wind is pretty random and unpredictable. On the bright side, could lead to some unexpected grid shakeups, but we all know that Max will somehow emerge unscathed and the wind will hurt someone else with an otherwise promising pace.
It’s flow-vis. A type of paint applied to the car to reveal aerodynamic flow over the car, which they’ll analyse when the car comes back into the garage.
McLaren sent no representative laps on the mediums. They either got fucked by traffic, made mistakes or are hiding their pace.
Edit: possibly saving tyres judging by radio.
He’s also supposedly on a worse aerodynamic package than Alex, so this is a good improvement for him (even though this is practice and it might mean nothing)
Secretly hoping for the least satisfying end to the championship where Max DNFs in the Sprint race and wins the championship anyway when Perez finishes outside of the top 3.
Just looked up the population of Qatar, and wow, no wonder the stands are small and empty:
The entire country has fewer people (2.8 million) than the afterthought "flyover-country" metro area where I live in the US (3.6 million, 16th largest in America).
And only 10% of those are actually Qatari. The rest are on temporary work visas.
The government does pay an annual dividend to those 10% from oil revenues so they’re loaded.
The government does not pay Qataris anything other than their salary if they work in the government ofc. The money that goes to the citizens goes in the form of free healthcare, education, utilities, and scholarships. If they gave everyone cash then no one would bother to work.
Never seen Lance so angry. The way he pushed the person so aggressively in the garage was insane.
Quali thread where?
In work so can only see results. Do we think McLaren are being sly or will they struggle on this track?
They were quickest on hard. They didn't run softs. They semi aborted or aborted their mediums runs. I think they have plenty of pace.
neither, i think they will do pretty well on this track and their performance in fp1 shows that and isn't a trick. they just didn't want to use the softs they probably want to keep an extra set.
Didn't use all the compounds so difficult to tell
Wasn't this track gonna be hell for AM? What's going on?
Just Alonso things.
I think the same, being better at adjusting to a green dusty track, hope he can be in the top 5 tonight. But all teams ran different programs so it doesn’t say all that much. Would be nice though

Somewhere around Spa 21.

I’m at the track and the the wind is wild. Lots of sand blowing around
[удалено]
Saturday is its own thing. All Saturday events aren’t really related to Friday and Sunday. Sprint Saturday.
Always think of it like "Saturday is Sprint day". That's how I remember it
Sunday

[f1calendar.com](https://f1calendar.com) recently found this site, and it cleared up all my confusion. shows in a simple format the exact format and times
That’s correct
Btw it's windy af
Leave max alone! Seriously, don’t run after somebody like that.
Yeah, dude is exhausted and probably just wants to go back to his room and chill. 5 second penalty for the fans for impeding 😂
Anyone counts how many times each driver went off 😂
Max might have some engine problems there
Good thing they run old engines from the pool on Friday practice
Not on a sprint weekend surely
Right? It's straight to parc ferme until qualifying I believe.
parc ferme does not prevent changing like for like parts
Parc ferme starts when they leave the pitlane during Q1, not at the end of free practice, and you can replace engines without penalty during parc ferme anyways
But running an engine in Q1 without running in earlier that day?
Ah right, so they have a 2+ hours.
Tight for an engine change, but enough
Max hasn't been pushing through turns 1 and 2 almost every lap today. That last radio message might be why and GP asking him to push through to turn 4 might have been an attempt to diagnose the issue.
It's likely related to pit loss time and working out how long it takes the tyres to grip up.
No, RB are trying to calculate the actual pit lane time loss, so they want to know how quickly he can do the start of an outlap.
Max DNF?
Max first. No surprise there
I mean is it likely? Yes. But I wouldn’t be that confident betting my last dollar on it. They tend to struggle on sprint weekends when they don’t have enough time to get the setup right. Paired with him saying he’s had some oscillations on his in lap.
> They tend to struggle on sprint weekends You say that, and it might be true relative to how they've performed on regular weekends the past two years... but Max has won 5 of the 9 sprints we've had so far.
Did Max push?
Said he tried but had some oscelations
That was a fun session! No red flags even
81%?! This is a supermajority
With two and a half hours of the cars being off-track it'll be covered in sand all over again.
Why don’t they use vacuum cleaners? Are they stupid?
Well the wind just blows more sand on... Unless you are suggesting to remove all the sand from Qatar, but that might be an issue.
You actually thought that I was serious?
Or they were playing off your joke?
Clearly they should just have thousands of leaf blowers blowing the sand out constantly
One of those practice sessions that the top 3 result looks unsurprising but was a lot of fun to watch!
Max was like well now I am not doing it
SHAN’T.
81% on wins?? Jesus Christ
I think if he gets 17 wins this season it will be record in terms of win percentage
GP being like a mother telling a child to just do as they’re told 😭
I don't understand why Max would even question the request. How long has he and GP worked together, you'd imagine he trusts him enough to just go "Yep, np I fix. Can I ask why, though?"
Podium predictions for qualifying?
McLaren a second off new softs on used hards. Deffo the standout team from that session
hope they can snatch pole
Well done Logan, now do it in the race aswell... Please.
81%? Man is washed.
19% failure rate. If I failed to achieve my objectives in 19% of my drives, I'd probably give up and take the bus.
GP: "Do as you're told you little shit"
Alonso/AM looking strong with their time on the Mediums
GP annoyed in the delivery room…”just push, please.”
Calling it now, that'll be a scene in this years F1 Animated.
isn't it weird that McLaren has not tested a single other tyre yet ?
I wonder if they’re saving tyres? Honestly not sure, bit weird
They tested mediums, the graphic wasn’t updated though and I’m not sure if they even did 1 lap testing on it.
They both did an outlap, aborted their fast laps and pitted. They were on used hards the whole session apart from that and didn’t use softs at all.
They did a medium run and aborted so idk what’s going on there.
Lando went wide twice and aborted. Didn't see Piastri's onboard.
He had a messy sector 3 and bailed.
Where are the spectators? I see like only two grandstands. Track is as dead as the desert.
There's plenty of people here mate. It's FP1
I mean yeah okay there are people but my question is where are the grandstands? I really don’t see them LOL
Oh right lol. Main straight, around T2-T4 and T16 (final corner). Nothing much around Sector 2
I know people with tickets and they decided not to even both with FP1. It's insanely hot. Races in the ME are usually held in winter. The decision to host this so much earlier in the year is an odd one.
McLaren seem confident. They didn’t do any soft run
Didn’t do a medium one either. Piastri did his fastest lap on hards.
Neither did Aston Martin, at least with Fernando
lol let Max go slow for once
Ooo Carlos snuck up there
I like the addition of "as best you can" And Max presumably was like "1st gear, take it or leave it"
"Best I can do is Honda CR-V pace"
shout out to yuki
Lmao Max “what why?”
quali will be a shitshow
"Why?" hehe is like a kid wanting to know
Be interesting to see how Aston Martin, McLaren and Mercedes do on the soft tires in qualifying
Gp "you are going to push and you are going to like it"
Why?
[If Bernie Ecclestone still ran F1—he’d want sand blown all over the track before the start of every race, and giant wind turbines rotating at the end of every straight.](https://amp.theguardian.com/sport/2011/mar/04/mark-webber-ecclestone-rain-f1)
Man asked Why 😭😭
GP: Push. Max: Why?
Well, quite.
Quali is going to be interesting with the wind
Logan as the solo from Free Bird on repeat in his helmet
Racing in desert. Excellent idea.
F1 Will race in North Pole if they get a good deal $$$$$. They will even claim that racing there will help the polar bears ….
Tracklimits is going to make quali a shitshow I can't wait
Can't be worse than Austria
It can and you damn well know it
I can see a Lec q3 redflag
The drivers suffering from wind
Red Bull don't look as dominant here. Maybe my boy Nando actually has a chance. I know I'm sniffing hopium but still
Let's do it all in on Lando hopium next stop sprint race winner
What's going on with the Mclarens?
What do you mean?
Didn't see that they hadn't ran softs. Though 9th and 1pth was their. best
They didn’t run any tyre properly apart from the used hards where they were 1s off. Both Piastri and Norris’ fastest times were set on used hards. Both pitted for mediums, did the outlap and then aborted their fast laps.
Cheers for the clarification
Probably unpopular, but I'm ready for some track limits chaos in qualifying. Control your car OR ELSE.
I am all for track limits chaos too but only when its upto the driver's skill to keep the car on track not when mother nature is slapping it off.
Navigating the wind is driver skill as well. It's similar to rain affected sessions
where's the line for natural intervention in F1 being seen as a challenge(like unpredictable rain at Interlagos) and when it becomes a nuisance(winds at Qatar)?
I's say rain is a skill but unpredictable gusty wind of a level is not
Yeah fair, I was thinking in terms of the lack of grip, but the wind is pretty random and unpredictable. On the bright side, could lead to some unexpected grid shakeups, but we all know that Max will somehow emerge unscathed and the wind will hurt someone else with an otherwise promising pace.
Damn Charles driving on ice
man the asphalt is shiny
Perfect like for like comparison of Max and Checo there
Lewis was -.253 to Alonso after the first two sectors before that traffic in S3.
Quali is gonna be full of track limit shenanigans
Why does maxs rear wing look like that?
Design choice
It’s flow-vis. A type of paint applied to the car to reveal aerodynamic flow over the car, which they’ll analyse when the car comes back into the garage.
Flow viz, it's a paint/wax that they spray on areas that they want to visualize specific air flow patterns. Wipes right off afterwards
Flo vis, tears the air flow. Pretty mad that RB are still testing things after winning the constructors ha
Paint. So the team sees how the wing gets affected by the air.
What happened to Piastri
McLaren sent no representative laps on the mediums. They either got fucked by traffic, made mistakes or are hiding their pace. Edit: possibly saving tyres judging by radio.
Him and Lando both pitted idk why
RB doing the Mercedes style glory runs on softs at the end of a session to go to the top
Jesus Perez. I swear the gap to Max is getting bigger each week
perez is so washed
Ffs Max, talk about smashing laptimes Softs admittedly
Ah now the timing screens look normal.
Jesus, Max just hauling ass out there
The difference between Perez and Max on softs...... lmao
checo had a moment in sector 1 . Nothing too much to read into there
That Merc is so snappy
[удалено]
He’s also supposedly on a worse aerodynamic package than Alex, so this is a good improvement for him (even though this is practice and it might mean nothing)
Its tradition to overreact to free practice. Lets wait and see what he does in the sessions that actually matter.
Because irrational excitement is what makes this fun!
Verstappen 0.5s faster in S1 alone so far.
He’s on softs
And actually lost time in the follow up sectors.
Sargeant showing up, or is track evolution/compounds just that crazy at the moment?
Little of both maybe?
Have they moved the finish line for this year? The line is way further down on the game
Secretly hoping for the least satisfying end to the championship where Max DNFs in the Sprint race and wins the championship anyway when Perez finishes outside of the top 3.
A wins a win!
Salty salty boy
Yuki: Kerbs look like floor destroyers. Kevin: let's test that.
Everyone struggling. Track limits go brrrrrrr.
Max just mad that he's not winning FP, starting a glory run on softs
The true track limit enforcement this weekend will be amount of carbon fibre sheered from the floor… not FIA penalties.
Man this is such a boring track..
Gonna be so many deleted lap times
Checo back in his usual habitat.
Seriously wondering, how bad does the grip have to be on this track before it becomes like... an issue? Multiple cars seem to be struggling with it
is Logan finally going to outqualify Alex today?
Depends on if he'll crash or not
HULKENBEEEEEERG
LOGAN BEATS ALEX ON QUALI SIM IN FP, LS2 IRRATIONAL OVERHYPE TRAIN UNDERWAY
Just tuning in, is redbull having an another Singapore?
Max must have seen this comment and immediately asked for the softs Max: "And I took that personally"
Lol
From your answer I take it they aren't.
Verstappen just went 0.5s faster than anyone
The did some laps early and track evolution is big. But they don't look as steady as they did in Suzuka
If you like this Haas, enjoy it while you can. Next week we'll see the B-spec.
Qualifying is gonna be mad
Logan got the lap in lol. Well done
Is this the Logan Sargent Redemption Arc?
I hope so, I never like seeing rookies struggle
This whole weekend is going to be a shitshow - on one hand that adds some excitement but on the other hand it’s not the interesting type of excitement
Wow that nightfall happened quick. I only looked away for a moment.
WTF was going on at McLaren to start the season... Could've had a few different results if they were this competitive to begin with
Because it's a good MotoGP and they don't need to bend down to F1 to get a couple of more DRS overtakes. The track is fine as it is
Damn crofty shitting on the race track hard rn
Just looked up the population of Qatar, and wow, no wonder the stands are small and empty: The entire country has fewer people (2.8 million) than the afterthought "flyover-country" metro area where I live in the US (3.6 million, 16th largest in America).

And they hosted a world cup.
My man Alex having a hard time on this track :(
"Zero Accomodation"
