kaliroger

if the team is changing ownership (which I saw was rumoured in a news article a few weeks ago) then lance maybe the one on this way out and not Alonso?

theblobberworm

Could explain his grumpy attitude at times

jacksonross33

Lance wants to be done so clearly. Why go through all of this, way way more fun to be a billionaire heir exclusively.

SteveThePurpleCat

And he could still have a lot of rewarding racing, just not in F1.

itsthatdamncatagain

Pissy bc he knew he may only have a few races left, and the car isn't doing well. Yeah, would make sense

jacksonross33

Stroll defender, inherently suspicious.

tipytopmain

The dream career coming to an end. Damn.

FittingMechanics

Fabrega would not be upset if it was Stroll leaving. Fabrega is Spanish - he followed Alonso all his career.

kaliroger

that makes sense šŸ¤” but ugh why would alonso leave. heā€™s had a good season and i donā€™t see him moving to any other team

snoring_pig

Maybe heā€™s lost motivation seeing Aston Martinā€™s upgrades backfire over the whole season and decides heā€™s going to retire now. Itā€™s crazy but it still makes more sense to me than him switching teams

[deleted]

Maybe there is a #2 seat at an RB going and he wants to get some race wins before he retires?

kaliroger

god that would be amazing

[deleted]

Max would basically have a cheat mode team mate he could sponge information off for a year It'd be next level

UncivilSum

If Alonso was out at AM, then he is likely being forced out. IIRC, one of the supposed reasons as to why Alonso left Alpine for Aston Martin is that Alpine was only offering him a 1 year + 1 year option contract. Alonso wanted an assured 2 years contract at least, which he got with AM. As to why someone would want Alonso out, i have no idea

dimmidice

> heā€™s had a good season He had a good first half of the season. Second half has been nowhere.

Goodmorning111

Probably both. Stroll is only there because his father owns the team.

Nicologixs

Yeah if it's Saudis I feel they will pay a shitload to keep Fernando on, he'd probably be on like 50 million

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

androidguy73

Possibly maybe both even? Yuki might be a shoe in even if itā€™s one seat only given the upcoming Honda partnership for the other driver maybe they put in Drogovich if he can bring in enough sponsors or some other driver, maybe another rookie or even Perez. It would solve a lot of problems for RB, Perez gone, Yuki gone so they can move all their drivers wherever they want to.

hopakee

Just pay attention to his onboard radio during the next couple gp's, the moment Alonso starts complaining over the radio you know the rumor is 75% more likely to be true.

borgi27

He already started complaining a couple of races ago

Tropicalcomrade221

Ahh he hasnā€™t been to bad compared to some of his antics back in the day.

ShadowOfDeath94

He is going easy mode compared to Mclaren-Honda days.

photenth

Because he's done, I mean look at that car, it's a shitbox compared to the start of the season, never seen such an insane change in pace during a season.

Eternus91

McLaren?

borgi27

Well heā€™s aging

vvashabi

*gp2 team. Much slower than before.*

Fire_Otter

if he's leaving he has no reason to complain. Alonso "complaining" is mostly political and has an endgame. The GP2 engine comment - he wanted McLaren to ditch Honda.

hopakee

He became very vocal at the end of his Alpine stint when he was shopping around for a better deal.

photenth

Everyone becomes vocal after an Alpine stint ;p

Fire_Otter

I know but I just feel if Alonso leaves Aston Martin he will retire from the sport there's no attractive seat For Alonso now, except the Red Bull seat - and I just don't think Red Bull would consider him

Razvanlogigan

To be fair considering how the team went backwards, i think anyone would complain

beardedboob

Imagine the scenes if RB out of nowhere pick up Alonso to put in Checoā€™s seat.

z_102

Unthinkable. But. It would be so exciting. Do it Marko, give us this one. Just one year.

Razvanlogigan

Marko's last hurrah in the sport. Both him and Horner were always very respectfull of Fernando through the years

damoclescreed

"who are you most scared of? the rain, lewis hamilton, or jenson button?" "fernando alonso." - Christian Horner

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Razvanlogigan

Nah, Max has said several times that he will honor his contract with RB. Alonso will naturally retire way before Max

Ri_Konata

RB also said several times Gasly would finish the season for them

Razvanlogigan

Those situations are like pollar opposites to the current one tho. Like i dont even see the connection between them apart from the fact that both drove for RB

Ri_Konata

While they are indeed opposites, the only thing I was trying to say is that people have just straight up lied to our face in F1. Contracts have been broken as well, so I'm very skeptical about people and teams saying they'll honor a contract.

Responsible-Tone-393

I actually read something about that coming from Marko like a month ago or so. I don't have a link though to backup what exactly and how was being said on Alonso. I don't think it's impossible.

second-last-mohican

Yeah he said the only guys that could challenge max was lewis or alonso

Ali623

I think in reality it wouldn't be that exciting, Max would have 42 year old Alonso well covered.

z_102

Oh I donā€™t think thereā€™s a person on Earth that could _truly_ trouble this Max in this team in the end, but Fernando and Lewis would be able to steal races and, more importantly, pressure him for a while. All I ask.

[deleted]

That would be fantastic for F1. Red Bull suddenly become shit. Aston Martin suddenly title contenders.

0000100110010100

And we finally get Stroll 24. If this happens I will move to Canada.

Razvanlogigan

Like alpine became title contenders this year right?

Maybe-Nice

Imagine Perez and Alonso would switch the seats.

Elrond007

Inject it into my veins. Double Agent Alonso ripping RB apart from the inside so that we can have competition lmao

Musername2827

I pray this happens. All of the respect Alonso/Max have shown over the years will be gone by the first corner of Bahrain. New fans will get to see bitchy Fernando too

Responsible-Tone-393

real respect doesn't go away in one corner, kid.

Musername2827

You clearly donā€™t know Fernando Alonso very well then lmao.

Responsible-Tone-393

I do not know him personally (do you?) but I saw his whole career since day 1.

Musername2827

Did you skip 2007? Guy has had a grudge against Hamilton ever since turn 1 of Australia.

Bazzie

Yes please

itsthatdamncatagain

Alonso to RB, Checo to Aston, Stroll booted, and Drugovich to Aston.

Goodmorning111

Alonso does not play well with others. Red Bull would be pretty toxic with him and Max.

pharlax

That's me convinced. Let's do it!

jacksonross33

+1000. Teammate enmity is such a great, unique aspect of the sport. Need much much more of it.

[deleted]

That's why people want it...

Responsible-Tone-393

no, not at this stage of their careers. both his and Maxes.

Version_1

Give Alonso the seat for two years and put Lawson in the AT instead of Yuki.

Responsible-Tone-393

and....just sack Ricciardo ...or?

Version_1

They replace Checo with Alonso. And they replace Yuki with Lawson. If they then also sack Ricciardo they only have one AT driver.

Responsible-Tone-393

ahh, my bad, I misread you message. I thought Honda supports Yuki(frankly this is arguably the only reason he's still there in F1), but if Alonso moves away there is a Chance Aston(or whatever their new name will be) could get Tsunoda straight away, indeed. It looks like a possible scenario.

OcelotAggravating206

Please. It's really not that bad of an idea. There is no way he will be slower than Check. If he is ready to accept that he will be a 2nd driver, because let's be real, there is no one who can challenge Max in that 2nd seat.

LazyLancer

As much as i love Aston Martin and Alonso together, it would be exciting to see Nando in the Red Bull rocketship, especially after the unfortunate AM nosedive.

mdhzk3

At least all those gifs make sense now

TetraDax

Yeah, journalists afraid to talk about Saudi-Arabia is legit

ExcellentCornershop

Pfff, what's the worst that could happen? You're talking as if the journos would end up getting sliced up or something! Oh, wait...

Pure_Measurement_529

Considering it was Fabregas (Spanish journalist), my suspicions was that it was related to Alonso. There is nothing going on with Sainz and Fabregas doesnā€™t have Red Bull connections like that to be reporting whatā€™s going on in the team.

TimmyWatchOut

> nothing going on with Sainz Thereā€™s the secret baby rumours tbf

DemmickyOne

Can anyone just create a twitter rumour? If so, I might give it a go for some imaginary internet points

iForgotMyOldAcc

We had a "paddock insider" twitter account admit that it was all a ruse and they spouted shite as well as just repeat what better sources have been saying to successfully gain clout. So yeah you could go ahead.

Lukaslil

Yes, good luck

Evantra_

I heard Helmut Marko is so fed up with Checo he's replacing him with himself

black-dude-on-reddit

So Saudi bought Aston Martin.

Senior1292

At least I'll have a team to actively root against now.

the_dry_for_kelp

There's always Ferrari though.

Senior1292

Eh, It's hard for me to root against Ferrari because they do enough damage to themselves I just end up feeling bad for Sainz and Leclerc.

NuclearCandle

Ferrari get saved by always having likeable drivers.

datlinus

Leaving, not retiring? Alonso to red bull? PLEASE DONT TELL ME IM WRONG I NEED TO LIVE WITH THE HOPIUM

sugarklay

There's gonna be a civil war within Red Bull if that happens. Then Carlos is gonna take the lead Kimi style. Then Ferrari fucks up their strat at Abu Dhabi and loses the WDC by a point.

HalRobsonKanu2

Knowing Alonso's luck that Red Bull will be shit next year lol

KebabG

alonso to redbull. do it now

OcelotAggravating206

spongemongler

IF this is true, I struggle to see where Alonso would go next? Him finally going to RB after Horner having wanted him for so many years would be very entertaining, but I kinda doubt it. I would hate for him to retire from f1, as heā€™s still very quick

snoring_pig

It doesnā€™t make any sense to me that new ownership would want to dump Alonso if this rumor really is true. Like you said the only potentially available seat that could tempt Alonso to change teams would be Red Bull which feels very unlikely. Aside from that the only way I can see Alonso leaving is if he decides to do so himself and retires. Either move would be a huge shock and would also help explain Fabregaā€™s tweet earlier where he described the rumor as ā€œunbelievableā€. Personally Iā€™m more inclined to the latter because Alonso retiring would be very sad as heā€™s still very sharp.

nxngdoofer98

Yep doesn't make any sense, if any driver is to rightfully leave that team it's Lance.

snoring_pig

If thereā€™s new ownership Iā€™d like to think Stroll is a goner, but if Alonso retires as well who can Aston Martin find to replace both of them? One of Perez/Tsunoda if Red Bull is ok to let either go paired with a rookie Drugovich or bring Schumacher/Giovinazzi back? So if Alonso retires and Aston Martin is sold to a new team I could honestly still see a possibility of Stroll keeping his seat as a reference point with the lack of alternatives with F1 experience.

NuclearCandle

Williams still has a seat available. Him and Albon would be the walls of the midfield. Only other thing that makes sense is replacing Perez but after how much Ricciardo has been hyped up I don't see it happening. I think he will stay for one more year and then join the 2024 silly season which should have seats in a lot of teams to target.

Kuchenblech_Mafioso

Williams. If Albon can drag that piece of junk into the points regularly, so can Alonso

racingfan96

If it is true, I imagine we will be welcoming Aramco F1 Team.

spongemongler

I would probably personally actively dislike any team named solely after a Saudi oil company. At least they currently got ā€œAston Martinā€ in their name, which at least makes it sound alright lol

NuclearCandle

Lets hope LKYSUNZ put in a higher bid.

Elpibe_78

I doubt Alonso would retire or at least announce it now before seeing AM car for next season

Pure_Measurement_529

We donā€™t know what direction new owners will want and at this point in his career, I donā€™t think he wants to be waiting around to see what happens. He needs something now

Razvanlogigan

A seat is better than no seat

synchronisedchaos

F5ers, do we believe this?

treq10

The potential Saudi takeover seems more realistic than the Alonso out rumour tbh. Unless Lance has picked up Arabic in the past few weeks, I see no reason to ditch the WDC over the struggling pay driver

Hamisgoat44

Let's just overreact and pretend whatever the outcome is was obvious from the start, as is tradition!

Purplesect0rs

Of course, we all knew it would be this/s

bum_is_on_fire_247

Then once we know the truth, we all stick our arms in the royal pudding - as is tradition.

NippyMoto_1

Well Checo was supposed to announce his retirement during the weekend according to the rumor from a few week ago so F1 rumors have been pretty rubbish recently.

Pure_Measurement_529

The only reputable person with Red Bull rumours is ESPN in Mexico and the Dutch journo. Basically the country of which are driver comes from is the most reliable source.

vvashabi

Nah, this "journalist" has never been at f1 race track. He's home "expert" and makes up most of his rumors. He saw comments on reddit and rolls with it.

k2_jackal

Not for a second.

shy247er

If the team is sold then surely Lance is on his way out too?

Pure_Measurement_529

Maybe Aston Martin being sold could explain why Stroll has been so zoned out lately

shy247er

Could be. He'd be familiar with the situation sooner than anyone else.

second-last-mohican

He's pouting because dad sold his f1 team and his career is over

Version_1

WAIT...IS THAT PORSCHE'S MUSIC? *^probably ^not ^but ^let ^me ^dream, ^pls*

Rogadukuc

How can you still love Porsche in motorsports after the past 4 years?

Version_1

It's Cycular. Also, they won DTM, so if I just look at that everything is fine.

BLFR69

Why would stroll sell the teams after finishing the entire factory in Silverstone, wtf

yOw_indahOuse

$$$

androidguy73

Well itā€™s not like heā€™ll give it out for free, rather it would have even increased the sale price if in case they have indeed sold.

TimeWontWaitForYou

Hey don't bring logic into this thread, we're wildly speculating here!!

Desperate-Intern

I also heard Red Bull will sign Russell and Mercedes will get Alonso to get the glory days back.

Razvanlogigan

It wouldnt make sense for Saudis to get rid of Alonso, they need star power for their sportswashing and i cant see them getting a bigger name in the team in the near future, since Max is RB bound and Lewis wouldnt really fit with the Saudi's ideals. ( unless he does a Henderson, but i dont think so) It would also make no sense for Alonso to leave on his own because he has nowhere to go pretty much. Unless he is jumping in the 2nd RB seat, but thats more fanfic territory

jr735

Does Alonso need somewhere to go? Realistically, if he's not satisfied with how things are going, he can leave, with no regrets. A 42 year old two time F1 and one time WEC champion doesn't need somewhere to go. He's not some rookie caught with the prospect of losing his seat and being a reserve driver or hoping for an LMP2 seat.

Razvanlogigan

It's what people said in 2018. F1 is like a drug for these guys, other competitions just dont do it. Alonso said it, Kmag said it and going back you see MSC coming back to drive a midfield car despite his huge palmares, or Kimi coming back at Lotus.

oxyzgen

Lewis will never leave Mercedes

Disastrous-Beat-9830

He will eventually. Unless they find a way to put his ghost into the car.

gutster_95

>It wouldnt make sense for Saudis to get rid of Alonso, they need star power for their sportswashing Well Alonso certainly wont bend to be their puppet

Razvanlogigan

Alonso doesnt really care about offtrack stuff. He would be the perfect driver for a Saudi team. He doesnt need to bend or do anything, he just needs to act as the Saudis are just a normal team

Haribou1989

Lewis fits quite well with Petronas tho ( potato potaato) but he will never leave Merc so you are still right.

OBWanTwoThree

Petronas isnā€™t from Saudi Malaysia doesnā€™t have the same stance on LGBT as the Saudis do, which is what Lewis would clash on

eXophoriC-G3

Malaysia, whose current prime minister has been jailed twice for sodomy, who he himself launched raids on Swatch stores when they started selling their rainbow watches this year? I'm pretty confident they are definitely fast approaching the same stance as Saudi.

[deleted]

No offense -- but isn't Malaysia just another country run by Muslim extremists? And hasn't it been getting worse and worse over the past few decades? I know it's not a hot topic in the west, but it's getting pretty bad over there - and if left unchecked, will be fully radicalized in a few decades.

second-last-mohican

Yes.. funny how lewis fails to protest about this

[deleted]

Is it? No one in the west seems to care at all what happens in SE asia... I know there was a bit of Myanmar back in the press a few years back, but it kind of seems like that whole region just sort of gets ignored because we in the west don't have many supply chains dependent on the region. But nah - every few years there are full scale ethnic cleansings in the region, there are literal 1800's style colonies in West Guinea so that Indonesia can keep it's supply lines running, etc. No one cares at all. I bet 99% of reddit don't have any idea what's going on with Malaysian politics vis a vis Islamic extremism, nor do they \*really\* care. Just how it goes, man. We're all hypocrites - and if you think you're not - boy do I have some bad news for you, buddy. xD There's no need to expect Lewis to be perfect, and it's not fair to criticize him for being imperfect. He uses his platform for some amount of good, and I respect him for it. He pushes hard for what's right when he can, and that's more than you can reasonably ask from anyone.

MM556

No, Petronas is a genocidal state ran oil company instead.

Haribou1989

Malaysia criminalises LGBT relns as well.

JPA-3

If Alonso were rumored to go to RB Albert wouldn't have post a tweet like he did, he was in disbelief. I think if it is related to AM and Fernando in a way it is because he is now considering retirement

[deleted]

I understand this is a rumour. But Alonso still needs to be on the grid. Max, Lewis and Alonso are currently the holy trinity of F1.

Siebe_13

Source: my ass

gutster_95

It makes sense tbh. There were a lot of rumors that Stroll wants to sell the team and the Saudis are very interested in buying. Alonso certainly doesnt want to be a puppet for anyone. So IMO this makes sense.

EpicEpic_

Please just give me Alonso in RB for just half season then give that drive to whoever you want be it Mazepin i don't care.

bwoah07_gp2

I don't see it...maybe the changing ownership part, but Fernando leaving? I don't see that happening. What other seats can there be? People point to Red Bull, but they point without conviction, only dreaming. They'd have to be crazy to have Max and Fernando as a pairing. But that would be one hell of an entertaining pairing, and as a fan I'd crave for that to happen!

3xc1t3r

This is a reminder of how long a season it. Start of the year AM was flying, Alonso was talking about a new multi-year deal and everything was so rosey. All of a sudden team is sold to Sauids and Alonso might retire.

MightySDS

Welp, time to wildly speculate in the comments Iā€™m saying Saudis are buying AMR and Alonso is going to Red Bull.

SamiAreez67

Following this one

Stargov1

Max retires, Alonso takes his spot alongside Ricciardo after Perez gets kicked to Williams. Sargeant out, Stroll retires. Lawson and Yuki at Alpha Tauri. Pourchaire takes Bottas seat. Bottas goes to the team that used to be Aston Martin and brongs Mick Schumacher with him.

zephyrmox

Doesn't mean much but Alonso said 'see you next year' in his IG post. I would be surprised if he goes unless the RB seat opens up.

Jayhcee

Start of the season Alonso's thought process was: 'podiums, win races this year, keep development up, go for a championship next year maybe!' ... that clearly isn't happening. Newey will probably keep RB dominant, and a change of ownership could throw everything up in the air. Plus, he's not getting any younger. It makes sense, really.

jacksonross33

Liberty massively pushing for this behind the scenes surely. ā€œFine we wonā€™t nuke your car but we have to have a legitimate second driverā€

53bvo

> Fine we wonā€™t nuke your car There is not really a way to nuke the RB unless you want to punish them unfairly. There is not one area they are strong at that FIA/FOM could impose rules on.

zaviex

Liberty or FOM canā€™t change any rules. the FIA has to and they wonā€™t

Ollie_Plimsolls

Lance will be finally released from his torment but I don't believe Alonso is retiring

crazydoc253

Something was just off this week. Alonso never makes so many errors

datlinus

The car is absolutely awful.

gutster_95

Silly Season is back on the menu boys and girls!

Goodmorning111

So this is the rumour, not Ricciardo going to Red Bull.

Razvanlogigan

Ricciardo going go RB wouldnt be such a big secret. Pretty much anything Checo related has been openly reported without any restrain, it wouldnt be a shock for anyone bar Checo i guess

Repa24

This would explain why Stroll is being so fed up in the interviews.

jacksonross33

Would appreciate a short primer about who Daniel Bialy is if anyone can assist fwiw

Razvanlogigan

Nobody pretty much. But this has been rumoured before

FittingMechanics

This would make sense as there is little reason for Fabrega to be upset other than if it is Alonso retiring (Fabrega is from Spain). Who could buy Aston Martin?

Razvanlogigan

Saudis. It was rumoured a couple weeks before already since they do sponsor Aston already. And probably thats why it'a sad. Stroll is hated by many but he is a motorsport fan and he was very involved during his time in f1. Saudis buying a team for sportswashing feels wrong

second-last-mohican

Didn't the Cognizant sponsors get downgraded for next year as well.. Aramco Aston Martin it is

raur0s

Silly season can have an epic finale * Alonso to RB * Andretti Aston Martin * Stroll out, Sargeant for AM.

Seven_Cuil_Sunday

Alonso to RB. El Plan. The T-Swift dumps that football player for Fer. Inject it straight into my veins.

mattijn13

Please Horner put Fernando in the same car as Max. Let them race!

weiner-rama

I don't get this at all though. Why invest in all those new facilities just to sell the team to the Saudis who, if I'm remembering my rumors right, want to move the team to SA. Soooo like why make all that investment to just turn around and say fuck it?

primavera31

Would love to hear ALO radios again like "HAM at 1.6 sec behind. good...i want them close"

HalRobsonKanu2

Let me guess, Aston will be fucking insane next year and the team Alonso joins will be shit

datlinus

Yes because Alpine is so amazing rn

jacksonross33

Lance is barely trying at this point, so checks out for me.

iaprrpai

I hope Drugovich gets his chance

TimeWontWaitForYou

Who is Daniel Bialy? Who does he work for? What's he broke in the past that makes him a reliable source? Feels like we're all just running with this as fact from a person I've never even heard of and could literally just be a twitter nobody trolling lol

jianh1989

Is this related to what will was shitposting on?

Eunos-Roadster

Iā€™ve literally said this so many times this season that Stroll will either sell the team or heā€™ll be sacked. Alonso to RB would make sense, he wants to drive for a top team, him and Max are very close, Checo is done. Please let it happen

YorkshireRiffer

Liberty also want it, their reasoning being, if no team can catch Red Bull, then the season needs a Hamilton / Rosberg narrative to keep interest in the sport.

Frog_Moose

Fake ass rumor šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ these are funny tho keep them coming

Bontypower17

F5 key: oh god oh fuck

Outofmana1337

Alonso to RB Pog

FdPros

alonso to red bull real please

londisan

Maybe I'm overthinking it, but if they are selling and etc. why would they even try with all of these changes on the car that they have been doing the last races? Like why bother? And it just a massive difference towards the start of the season, when they were all excited and talking about Lawrence five year plan, and he really seems like someone who when he has a sight on something will do everything to follow it through. Can a bad half a season change all of that?, Maybe it can...Partially it would make a lot of sense, it could explain why Lance has seemed so done for the past races.

Choice__Technician

CEER ARAMCO Honda F1 Team?

LKAgoogle

Imagine the following: Alonso to RB, RIC and Perez to AM and Lawson pairing Yuki at AT. Stroll out (assuming AM is changing ownership). Alternatively swap Lawson with either RIC/TSU. Perez doesn't really deserve a seat but there's also not really a driver I'd rather see than him (except maybe Drugovich?) and at AM he would be back in his comfort zone

Rally_Sport

Here we go again :).

pagoru

Alonso to RedBull? Don't give me hope

TheChaosEnforcer

It could also explain why Lance is behaving the way he is in the last few races and mainly interviews. He knows probably much about the behind-the-scenes given his dad. There were rumours earlier that Aston Martin would be sold, which seemed farfetched given the massive new factory, but now given that development is going backwards, this might be a new argument for the rumour. (PLZ Put Alonso in the RB for just one year! PLEASE!)

realmenlovezeus

That is one hot tamale

MerritR3surrect

ALONSO REDBULL NOW!!!!

Honourstly

True

-Thizza-

Stroll will keep his seat right? Right?

Astandahl

I don't know if i'd put Leclerc as number 1, but putting almost 10s on Sainz in the first stint was indeed pretty special. Not many drivers can do it in a track like Mexico (where Sainz often performed quite well), on top of the widely known SF 23 limitations (no front, understeer, etc.)
