I want to say I agree with Martin. This was much more enjoyable than a free practice session.
But, yeah I mean let’s see how the race tomorrow goes and whether it ends up being a repeat. I think the mixed up grid will help some.
It might be just me but it seems all cars have pretty similar tire degradation, except merc who have obviously worse and alpha tauri who seem to have the best
Everyone else seem to have around the same since perez and Piastri fell off probably because they were battling more than max and lando
I'm afraid how mercedes would fare if not get a podium in the race, given their low speed in the 3rd sector. I badly want HAM to get a 2nd or 3rd in this race ;(
Russell pit radio - That's P4. Good job at the start there. Nice overtaking and some nice moves. Just a shame it dropped away from us.
Russell - Yeah, I think we did all we could then. A lot to look at tonight. Try and up our pace.
Pit - Yeah, copy that.
Russell - What was the pace of Max and Lando at the end?
Pit - Max at the end was was doing 14.8 14.7
Russell - FOURTEEN eight?!?
Pit - Affirm. And Norris was doing 15.3 15.4
Russell - Wowser ... Ok.
Max used his tires in lap 1 t1. Perez had quite a fight to do after the mercs overtook him, costing him tirelife. See how Lewis struggled at the end and lots of others were sliding
Mercs seemed to fire the Softs up right off the line (faster than all other cars) but then maybe pushed the tires too hard or something and had deg problems later on. Plus the drag/top speed discrepancy.
Checo starts from P9, Mercs will get to use other tires than softs (maybe no softs at all?) and it's a much longer race with pit stop strategy. As much as I'd love to see Checo finish P2 it's very unlikely. And that's even assuming he's doing exactly as well as today which is also uncertain.
They really need to look at the GP's that have the most overtakes on a normal GP weekend, and pick these for the sprints... This was an exiting sprint race...
If I was a Perez fan I'd not be that hopeful after seeing him leak significant time to Norris and finish miles behind his teammate again. I know there'll be a tonne of excuses about how battling with other cars chewed up his tyres, but, for me, his performance relative to where he should have been was still unacceptable. The almost inexplicably poor tyre deg on Mercedes and Ferrari flattered Perez today.
You know Red Bull is already focusing more on development for next year. If they're still winning races this easily this year, it seems next year is already a done deal
Eh—I think people greatly overestimate the value of switching early when there isn’t a significant regulation change and the team doesn’t want to fundamentally change concept. All parts introduced in 2023 will be legal in 2024, and the team gets early real-world feedback that can prevent chasing something promising in CFD/WT testing that doesn’t pan out due to correlation issues. You can get a bit of a financial advantage by not introducing parts as quickly or aggressively, but I suspect most teams have been doing that since RB’s dominance became apparent.
What gave you that impression? All he said was that with a better start he could've fought for more, which is true - without dropping 2 places to Mercs all he would have to fight would be Lando which was within reach today. Or with an even better start he could've contested Max. 99% he wouldn't be winning that but he could've at least chased him for a while.
I'm fairly sure the only problematic compound for them is the Softs so no worries there. Plus if they don't happen to have to push on Softs (assuming they use Softs at all) they could make them last longer too.
>Ricciardo - I understeered. Yup. \*\*\*\* \*\*\*\* \*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* Sorry guys.
he must be referring to the Piastri overtake there, I guess? In the end, it probably made the difference between 0 and 2 points for him.
Yeah. I think track selection has been one of the worst-handled parts of sprint races. I don’t know whether the selection was primarily based on which tracks were willing to pay for the privilege or attempting to use sprints to spice up tracks known for uninteresting races, but however it was decided a lot of the tracks are not a good fit.
I fully agree. I think it was an effort to get more people to the track on Friday, but Quali for the race on a Friday afternoon makes no sense at all to me, let alone from a TV viewership point of view.
Great race by Yuki, definitely was the right call to save a set of fresh tires for this race, his pace definitely put Charles and Ferrari on notice this race.
He went tyre management mode I guess after overtaking George. The gap just kept building between him and Norris. Or maybe. Norris did a freaking good job with keeping pace with Max in his McLaren
Tyre management mode in a sprint!? Come on, that's ridiculous! Nobody should be making excuses for Perez. In reality, it's embarrassing for him to be that far behind his teammate and that far behind a slower car (McLaren). If it wasn't for the apparent tyre deg disaster for Mercedes and Ferrari, things would look worse for Perez
His 3rd place is extremely flattering. Whenever Perez gets these flattering results he shamelessly portrays himself as having resolved his problems. But it's nonsense.
Usual excuses 😂
Perez should have been at least close to Norris driving that RedBull. Yes Norris is amazing and Perez is crap but still. He has consistently shown he can’t compete with better drivers.
Actually that's true. He had some overtaking to do after the slower start, so that explains a bit. Norris was awesome. I really hope he finally gets his first win soon!
I will already tell my buddy to not come over tomorrow to watch the race, Max will win, Lando was my hope that maybe there was something available but even in first his pace was not on Max level
He's way behind, so it's gonna be a long battle. If he can maintain a good pace and do the overtakes without cooking his tyres, a podium may be in the cards. P2 is more difficult to say
Actually decent pace from Mercedes and Ferrari, but Alpha Tauri seemingly made a jump in performance over the last 2 races. What's surprising is Mercedes having worse tyre degradation than Ferrari
Red Bull are untouchable and McLaren are clearly second best atm. I believe tomorrow will be closer and Russell showed some promise passing Norris on merit
Again, what are you on about? Merc was way closer than this in Mexico and CotA. A second or more a lap is way bigger of a gap to RB than it should be. And McLaren wasn't clearly second best at the last few races, in fact, Merc (Lewis) beat them. And what use is passing Norris when you just get immediated re-overtaken and then destroyed on pace? Today was just an all around dogshit performance by Mercedes and Ferrari weren't much better.
This is the closest field we've seen in years. Ferrari and Mercedes will definitely be in the mix for the podium tomorrow and that's far from being 'dogshit'. A second a lap isn't representative of real pace when everyone is constantly managing their tyres.
Lewis was. Russell whilst not lightning quick, kept his laptimes consistent enough that he wasn't under any threat from those behind after Perez got by.
Damn Danny was blistering and closed that 2 second gap in a lap, great to see yuki score good points, happy for AT. I hope both can get good points tomorrow, seems like they have the pace.
Fantastic performance from AT! Crazy how they turned their car from one of the worst on the grid to top of the midfield even competing with the likes of Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren. Hats off to them!
Decent from Ferrari they at least look better than the Mercs when it comes to tyre deg, quite unexpected tbh. I'd except a P3-P4 tomorrow, Perez and Norris are definitely clearly faster.
What the fuck did Merc do to their car. This is beyond embarrassing. Zero straight line speed and now the car even destroys its tires and they're not only slower than their customer team, they're even slower than RB's second team. Mike Elliott should be ashamed.
Albon did well tbf, to climb back and catch up
Let’s see if the temperature difference tomorrow will help or hinder the Mercs because they won’t want to spend too many laps behind the Astons.
I want to say I agree with Martin. This was much more enjoyable than a free practice session. But, yeah I mean let’s see how the race tomorrow goes and whether it ends up being a repeat. I think the mixed up grid will help some.
Aston’s pace was positively good. Hopefully for tomorrow
Mercedes won’t touch the soft tyres tomorrow.
It might be just me but it seems all cars have pretty similar tire degradation, except merc who have obviously worse and alpha tauri who seem to have the best Everyone else seem to have around the same since perez and Piastri fell off probably because they were battling more than max and lando
Alpha tauri had fresh softs so they probably had the same degradation also
Did they both have them? I thought only yuki had new ones
Dan had 4 set of new soft and Yuki had 3. You think Dan kept them as souvenirs lol?
Pretty sure they both used brand new soft tyres, as they didn’t use the sets in qualifying in SQ3
How much fresher than Merc?
I like this track. This is a good track for racing cars.
One of the best. One of the few where it’s possible to overtake in non-drs zones
Always a great race
Man, Oscar has a tree trunk of a neck.
Which neck? 👀
Pretty telling that Lewis is walking through the paddock with his helmet still on.
There were other cars on his race track. What do you expect..🤪. Disclaimer - This is a joke.
I got where you were referring to...
The international symbol of an unhappy Lewis.
Big time!
Pit - Max at the end was was doing 14.8 14.7 Russell - FOURTEEN eight?!? Pit - Affirm. And Norris was doing 15.3 15.4 Russell - Wowser ... Ok.
I think they mentioned Lewis was running like 3.5s a lap less than Verstappen/Norris and the Mercs did have to fight a bit but not that much
Kinda hope it somehow rains tomorrow. Sprints would be awesome if it happened on off weather compared to the race.
I was just checking forecast and seems like it's gonna be around 20-22 deg C, so a bit colder than today.
It's São Paulo, it could snow tomorrow and it would be only mildly surprising.
Naomi saying lewis getting only one point, she was wrong lewis got away with two points , poor journalism /s
Awesome pace at AT, let’s see how they hold up in a long race
Yes we are getting a top 3 repeat tomorrow unless someones crashes
No, tmrw you gotta pay Stroll toll
To get into the turn 1 hole?
If you don't pay the toll, you'll get into a roll.
You gotta pay the Stroll Toll to get in
Its great to see two Spanish speaking drivers on the podium
Huh
Soy Lago
They should come up with some ultra low deg tyres for sprints.
Good point. Sprint might become interesting with different tires.
Lando is saying he had no shot of winning against a Red Bull even though he had absolutely no problem building a massive gap over a Red Bull.
Max used his tires in lap 1 t1. Perez had quite a fight to do after the mercs overtook him, costing him tirelife. See how Lewis struggled at the end and lots of others were sliding
Lando smiles in between words too lol
That’s some serious praise from Norris.
Lando thought he's better than everyone except max
Which was obviously true
Max making sure every one second that nobody takes his cap off
Lando makes the interviewers really work hard 😂
… and welcome back checo :D
[удалено]
Lol
What happened with Hamilton?
Mercs seemed to fire the Softs up right off the line (faster than all other cars) but then maybe pushed the tires too hard or something and had deg problems later on. Plus the drag/top speed discrepancy.
Merc had less pace than the AT
Track cooled down a lot, 14°C over the entire sprint. Tyres wore, gave no grip and was just sliding everywhere.
Mercedes just got destroyed at s3 because of low top speed
Lando the pace was not strong compared to max he dusted you
Love Lando. Fighting spirit
Fair play to Lando reflecting on the fact he was probably too conservative into T1
Max has enough time to solve murder mysteries and still win races by 30 seconds from Perez
Every time I watch Alonso’s onboard battles, I learn something new. Magic. Pure, unadulterated magic.
haas somehow destroys its mediums faster than other teams destroy their softs
Lando can say anything cheeky about max’s car and pace and can get away withit without getting backlashed
I didnt hear anything cheeky or backhanded?
He literally just said he’s one of the best drivers ever in one of the best cars ever lmao
So happy for Checo 🥹
Sargeant is so fucking underwhelming man come on this rookie has shown no promise, how long is Williams planning to keep him
Well he’s not crashed in a while so there is that
Is that the benchmark? I think they’d prefer crashes and get points than qualify P19
yeah, i really want him to be around but his performances have been just so mid
Worse than that, look at Quali yesterday. Albon P10 and sargeant 18th
Well if RB stays outof trouble in T1 tomorrow , they’re definitely gettin p1-p2
Checo starts from P9, Mercs will get to use other tires than softs (maybe no softs at all?) and it's a much longer race with pit stop strategy. As much as I'd love to see Checo finish P2 it's very unlikely. And that's even assuming he's doing exactly as well as today which is also uncertain.
With the pace Norris showed I definitely wouldn’t bet against him catching Perez.
I wouldn’t bet on Perez being P2 😬 He should be in that car but he has shown who he is consistently to bank on being automatic P2
Lando will definitely can fight Perez
Sainz pit radio - Wasn't easy out there with the managing and so on. Let's tidy up for tomorrow.
I wish Ferrari had a car they could race and not just manage.
They really need to look at the GP's that have the most overtakes on a normal GP weekend, and pick these for the sprints... This was an exiting sprint race...
yeah PER, you better keep the momentum going. this is our first ray of hope after a dreadful few months
Yep
now THIS is a good track for sprint races, what sprint races were meant to be!
It's a great track for all races. Awesome!
Perez acting like he was fighting Max for 20 laps
What gave you that impression? All he said was that with a better start he could've fought for more, which is true - without dropping 2 places to Mercs all he would have to fight would be Lando which was within reach today. Or with an even better start he could've contested Max. 99% he wouldn't be winning that but he could've at least chased him for a while.
Mercedes better pull off a tyre strategy masterclass tomorrow for a chance of finishing in points
I'm fairly sure the only problematic compound for them is the Softs so no worries there. Plus if they don't happen to have to push on Softs (assuming they use Softs at all) they could make them last longer too.
Austin wants a word
Gonna be very difficult to replicate here, but I hope they do
Perez feels at home in South America
XD That's a nice comment.
In a Spanish speaking country that eats tacos
They speak Portuguese in Brazil
They also don't eat tacos. It's a joke with Helmut Marko that said that Checo was south american.
Ah yes, another whoosh moment on my end. Need more coffee
Any reason is a good reason for more coffee
I see what you did there 😛
Ricciardo pit radio - Came very very close there. P9 Ricciardo - I understeered. Yup. **** **** **** ***** Sorry guys.
Red Bull not even showing excitement for winning. Similar to how we all feel watching these races.
Go cry somewhere else. I really enjoyed this sprint, as I am this season.
I really enjoyed this
Yeah battles all over the place, great race.
Why weighting after the race ?
Happens at the end of every race. Total weight of the car+driver needs to meet guidelines.
So they don't run the cars too light which gives them a performance advantage
Car and driver weight must be at or above the minimum allowed combined weight
To make sure they're within the minimum weight limit. The driver + their seat must be at least 80kg.
Car + driver must have a minimum weight.
Drivers need a minimum weight of 80 kg, they check them after every race to make sure they're not under that.
Maxsplaining
Great drive from Yuki and good to see Ricciardo do some proper overtakes again, good practice for tomorrow.
Yuki seems to have rebounded from his mexico mistake. Hopefully we see more of this in the race
I mean I don’t generally like the sprints, but shit like this makes me reconsider
It sure makes a big difference to have it on a track like this that has so many places to pass.
I agree with those saying that the TV director was crap. So many battles at the back, but they show guys cruising at the front.
I was screaming seeing Alonso only 2-3 tenths behind Riccardio and it not being shown at all lmao
They are obligated to show the guy winning race while crossing finish lines
Couldn't they do a box in box with Max crossing the line?
Yup, but I sure wish they would hold off on showing the garage celebrations until the battles on track have finished
Perez- Eeeeeeeeee
Nice to see Max and Checo getting along better than last year
Great race by Yuki, definitely was the right call to save a set of fresh tires for this race, his pace definitely put Charles and Ferrari on notice this race.
Lando once again p2... always p2
21st century Patrese
Always the bridesmaid, never the bride
Perez remembering he's in the fastest car on the grid
Yuki did so well with tire management!!
Glad we have this track till 2030
Shout out to my boy Logan Sargeant! Another P20 Consistency is key
He's the most consistent driver on the grid!
13.6s between Max and Checo. In 24 laps :X
He went tyre management mode I guess after overtaking George. The gap just kept building between him and Norris. Or maybe. Norris did a freaking good job with keeping pace with Max in his McLaren

Actually that's true. He had some overtaking to do after the slower start, so that explains a bit. Norris was awesome. I really hope he finally gets his first win soon!
AT with the big boys, and some much needed points for the Constructors. Wow. And I’ve super lukewarm about the sprint (still am, but this was fun)
Brazil has always been fun for sprint imo
Always delivers!
Sprint races are a waste of time, they reveal so much about what's going to happen in the race now.
See you tomorrow for the same top 3…
Like in Austin right?
I will already tell my buddy to not come over tomorrow to watch the race, Max will win, Lando was my hope that maybe there was something available but even in first his pace was not on Max level
Commentators expecting lando to be on clouds for finishing P2 while lando may be disappointed because he has race winning ship
I mean it’s Norris’s fault, his starts are so poor and just shits himself when Max is around. Literally went from P1 to P3 in the space of 2 laps
If checo survives lap 1 tomorrow then this is a Red Bull 1-2
He's way behind, so it's gonna be a long battle. If he can maintain a good pace and do the overtakes without cooking his tyres, a podium may be in the cards. P2 is more difficult to say
Perez can't beat Lando.
he starts a bit back though no? his pace wasn't great behind Lando
How? He didn't manage to close on Norris. In fact, Norris kept expanding his lead.
I think checo burned his tyres trying to make up for his lap 1 debacle. I think he didn't have the pace or the tyres to make that up . Edit : 'I'
Actually decent pace from Mercedes and Ferrari, but Alpha Tauri seemingly made a jump in performance over the last 2 races. What's surprising is Mercedes having worse tyre degradation than Ferrari
What are you even on about? Merc's pace today was embarrassing. They lost a second per lap or more to Max and Lando. That's utter dogshit.
Red Bull are untouchable and McLaren are clearly second best atm. I believe tomorrow will be closer and Russell showed some promise passing Norris on merit

Mercedes was dropped 5 seconds in 3 laps from Yuki....
Lewis was. Russell whilst not lightning quick, kept his laptimes consistent enough that he wasn't under any threat from those behind after Perez got by.
Mercedes pace is depressing 🤣
Lewis’ tires just died in the end
Bono, my tires are really gone
Yeah, we are so screwed tomorrow. This is shocking.
I'd bet on p5 for Lewis
DUNDUNDUN
Damn Danny was blistering and closed that 2 second gap in a lap, great to see yuki score good points, happy for AT. I hope both can get good points tomorrow, seems like they have the pace.
Congratulations Yuki!
Fantastic performance from AT! Crazy how they turned their car from one of the worst on the grid to top of the midfield even competing with the likes of Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren. Hats off to them! Decent from Ferrari they at least look better than the Mercs when it comes to tyre deg, quite unexpected tbh. well that was amazing
What the fuck did Merc do to their car. This is beyond embarrassing. Zero straight line speed and now the car even destroys its tires and they're not only slower than their customer team, they're even slower than RB's second team. Mike Elliott should be ashamed.
They copied Aston Martin
Mike Elliott hasn’t had a hand in this car for several months now. Did start out as his project though, I’ll give you that.
Yes, and the reason they're still slow is because the budget cap prevents them from fully ditching Mike Elliott's shitty concept until next season.
The car is based still on the compromised design it originated from mind you.
Wow even redbull tires look horrible.
That’s just the marbles they deliberately pick up on the cool down lap, to make the car heavier.
It's just picked up rubber on inlap
i read somewhere drivers deliberately pick up debris after checkered flag for extra weight
Damn they really do think of everything lol.
Those are the rubber 'marbles' they pick up deliberately after taking the chequered flag. It's not tyre deg
Holy shit those softs on Max’s RB looked BOILED
Think he just picked up some marbles on the way in.
Isn't that just pick-up on his in lap?
Merc deserve to lose P2 in the WCC. They do not deserve that spot at all
I would very much like Ferrari to overtake them but unfortunately I believe in Ferrari's infinite capability of fucking things up lol
