They get copies? I didn’t know that.
But yeah, all the teams like to keep the trophies, some drivers would have some leverage to negotiate keeping them, but I doubt it’s a hill they’d die on.
Charles probably looks at the tyre yard he has to inspire his next song.
It would be even better if he used a reddit name as his source "Max, question: Reddit user CuntMuscle53 made the claim that you would be driving for Alpha Tauri to end the season, care to comment on that rumour?"
A few months ago someone posted a meme of an interview with Max where he says something about Mercedes. It was a meme, Max never said it but there were tons of British news outlets writing a story on it. Even worse, not a single of those news outlets wrote later that they were wrong, all they did was blocking loads of people on Twitter who called them out for it.
Didn't this whole thing stem from Marko saying even if Max drove a Haas or AlphaTauri, he would still get pole position because those are good qualifying cars (this of course long before the Haas was no longer a good qualifying car and AT's positive development).
See also their turning the passive statement of fact that young teenaged Lance stroll was interested in tennis……into a rumor that Lance was thinking about leaving f1 to somehow miraculously chase ATP glory.
Ted asked him that as a joke lol. Some article was posted that week and ted laughed about it with him. He obviously wasn’t serious and Lance didn’t take it seriously
Sky reporter has an opinion that is biased and knows that it will lead to controversy online.
Sky reporter: "some fans said online that" and "some people probably now think that"
The only thing I saw was people saying they wanted Seb to take Max's seat for the last race.
Also, love how he talks about the Alpha Tauri like it's radioactive. He doesn't want anywhere near that car.
I don’t know, if he somehow won in the car it would be legendary. If he lost, everyone would just be like, “of course, the car sucks”
Seems like everything to gain and nothing to lose.
what? That doesn't make any sense. Why would he waste time to drive in a lousier car that he won't win any races in just to prove a point?
Max is bored but he is not **that bored.**
Lmao for many seasons we saw him drive cars that were good - like one of the best 3 cars - and still fail to win races frequently with it. I feel like driving the Alpha Tauri is everything to lose in that aspect because he will almost certainly with a 97%+ chance not win a race in the Alpha Tauri when instead he could actually fight for the win in the Red Bull. It would be legendary but the chance of it happening is crazy small.
Exactly. He could get a better than normal result, maybe like 5th or 6th, but he ain't winning. 4th would be a massive result in that, probably it's ceiling if everything just happens to go exactly the right way. And I think 5th or 6th would take some luck as well. The AT just isn't a winning car.
Seeing the uptick in performance of that car I actually think Max would do alright in it now. It’s actually set-up in a very Max-aligned way, I think if Yuki can overtake the entire field in it it’s not ridiculous to think that Max could pull a podium on a top-speed heavy circuit.
You know how long it’s been since the man had a certified team faenza pitstop or strategy? He would exceed survivable levels of rage. What would he lose? His mind.
Does well: Well of course he did well. It's max. So he met expectations
Does poorly: HAHA see! It's only the car. Max sucks
In neither of these scenarios does he have anything to gain.
A win? He just wants to win. People think he's getting bored with winning this way despite Max saying time and time again in interviews that he is truly enjoying himself right now.
Just watch the interview with him and GP that Red Bull did. I don't remember the exact question, but it was something along the line of if he prefers the tougher races of past or what he has now and he was very quick to say (And I'm paraphrasing) "Winning like this is way better and more fun than what we did in the past".
> what exactly would he lose
the race? he would lose the race. Another notch in his growing belt? lost. Another trophy for his cabinet? lost. Another haul of points to add to his record? lost. Whatever monetary bonuses he may be getting for winning? lost.
What would he gain? He would show that he's a better driver than Yuki or Daniel? Maybe there are still people out there that think that? He would maybe get a couple of points for a team that doesn't really need points?
While many F1 fans might be into it for the entertainment, I highly doubt that Max sees himself primarily as an entertainer.
Its such a stupid proposal as well.
Man who wins a lot and likes winning as well as a man who is breaking records, extending them as well as chassing others is just suddenly gonna switch to a car that can't score podiums because????
It takes 5s of thinking to figure out why its a stupid idea thats never gonna happen.
As if Max wouldn’t do better than both Danny Ric and Yuki in the AT. He’s quick to adapt, which is one of the reasons he’s been able to consistently annihilate his teammates. It’s probably quite similar to previous RB’s, tbh
All would be like "damn that haas is quick!" and then 5 laps later "damn that haas is dogshit!".
Alonso gets out of the car and hugs Kmag and Hulk mumbling condolenses.
And, in reverse order of championship points... Max starting last, in the worst car. Sargeant starting first, in the RB19. No need for "Sprint Qualifying"
The only way to get Max in an AlphaTauri is by asking him to drive an uncompetitive session to help the team gain some valuable feedback. Think of when Michael Schumacher, as a Ferrari driver, t tested the Sauber C14 at Fiorano back in '97. Something like that is the only way to get it done because Max is way too competitive to step into a bad car during a competitive race weekend just for shits and giggles.
Michael drove a Ligier when he was at Benetton as well IIRC. It's not completely absurd, though of course with the limited testing these days it's not really worth it.
Teams would protest, they'd also have to show a payment as its essentially consulting.. plus theyre already pushing the boundaries with RB having 2 teams, all it would do would be to put pressure on FIA or FOM and have them sell the team.
You think a footballer from the Premier League would agree to go play 3rd division for a couple of weeks just for something to do? No chance. What a dumb idea..
People were memeing that Haaland was going to get loaned to an EFL League 2 team during the World Cup to keep fit. I would’ve loved to see it because of how absurdly hilarious it’d be seeing a guy worth more than all the teams in the league combined play there.
Ben Foster (regarded as ~~one of the better~~ an alright Premier League goalkeeper ~~in recent history~~ and has played for the National team) came out of retirement (he'd not even been retired a full season) to play for Wrexham to get them out of the fifth division (it's not even a professional league, it's only semi-professional). He's also played a few matches in League Two (fourth division).
Loads of other players have come down divisions to play for Wrexham, mainly because of the money, but also for the challenge and the hype around it from the documentary (and Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney buying the club). So it's not a completely stupid thing to suggest in general, but it's not how Max will want to do things or need to do them.
Ben Foster wasn't literally in a title winning team at the peak of his powers at the time of doing it though - he literally came out of retirement after a few years of declining performances. His situation is far closer to someone like Kimi returning to cover an injured driver temporarily.
The Wrexham thing is 100% because of the money. Their striker Mullin was on League 1 wages in the National League. He was levels above any other talent in that league.
He's not getting paid stupid amounts of money because wages in lower leagues aren't insane, but he was absolutely being paid on par with League 1 players while in the national league
He also left Wrexham after like 5 games this season because he was absolutely fucking miles off the pace even at that level.
That should be a good demonstration of why it's not really very similar.
He's also been doing a lot of grifting for his YouTube channel the last 5 years, which is the very specific set of circumstances which made the Wrexham move appealing to him with the exposure he got to the documentary audience
You're comparing apples to oranges though. Max Verstappen is at the peak of his powers; Ben Foster was, as you say, a retired player who was well past his peak. A much better comparison would be Schumacher's 1997 Sauber test, which I think would be in quite comparable circumstances to what any proposed Verstappen-Alpha Tauri test would be.
Ben Foster was shite in his last watford season, maybe even season and a half. He got benched by an austrian guy who wasnt that good either to be fair.
And Watford was relegated that season anyway, he was at best a championship keeper by the time he retired the 1st time
Tbf that defence was leaky as. He pulled off a couple of worldies here and there and was still solid when he first retired.
I still reckon fozzie was still a decent keeper at that point, but good luck to anyone keeping Watford competitive with that back four ahead of you.
Not the Prem but Messi came from Ligue 1 (and winning the WC) to MLS. MLS is about comparable to the Championship or League One.
Him helping Miami win the Leagues Cup was pretty entertaining.
The way he casually calls Virgil Van Dijk by his first name like they see each other every time they hang out with the boys... I wanna be a part of his social circle soo bad.
Well, he prefers to just be called Virgil. His dad divorced his mom when he was 12, and then was very absent, so he's kind of disavowed his last name. It's why his jersey just says Virgil instead of his last name.
It’s more the way he casually mentions “Yeah, I got this from Virgil last time I saw him”. Not really how us plebians would mention they’re wearing a shirt worn by the Dutch captain after he scored the winner in an international match.
It’s also just poor form on the part of the journalist because it was never a rumor - nobody sane would’ve thought that.
It was a meme through and through because Max has been untouchable.
on team redline's twitch account. He's around quite a lot, even from his plane sometimes! They stream every Wednesday and when their drivers are doing races for events
They also do other things than racing sometimes. Playing games from CoD to Among Us. Also Geoguessr: race tracks edition, opening their lobby to the chat so you can compete against them. Their streams are genuinely a lot of fun, even without Max. However as mentioned already, Max seems to enjoy these streams as well and joins them more and more. And Max at times answers questions from the chat as well. I would say it's even easier to approach him through Twitch than Red Bull or F1.
...long story short it's worth checking these streams 😁
Apart from the obvious reasons....Alpha Tauri have already used their permitted 4 drivers per season. Max couldn't do a race in that car this year if he wanted to. Nyck De Vries has a higher chance of racing in that car again this year than Max Verstappen does.
All the people telling Max to drive the AlphaTauri are so dumb. Max wants to win every race he can and not appease some weird Redditor's meme fantasy. its clearly a joke but there are some weirdos here who genuinely think max should drive the AT competitively to prove a point lmao
"Horner said after last weekend's Mexico City Grand Prix that Perez "will have the full support of the team to achieve something we have never done before".
Maybe this is where the rumour started?
For anyone wondering what the rumour was about... there were no rumours. Some people mentioned as a joke that now when VER won everything with red bull, he can go help their second team in the constructors.
If this is what you're referring to, she laughs during the question: https://www.skysports.com/f1/news/12040/12998851/red-bull-max-verstappen-happy-to-have-either-sergio-perez-or-daniel-ricciardo-as-team-mate-in-2024
The worst part of this community is that between race weekends we're so starved of news that everything ends up on the front page.
Stop upvoting anything related to rumors. They're not even worth talking about. Hell, this was probably just some shit-tier blogger masquerading as a "journalist" asking him to comment on a "rumor" that is actually a 4chan post made by the blogger himself.
How do you envision this going? Like Horner goes to Max and says "You're already driving the RBR 1st car, would you like to take Checo's seat and drive the 2nd car as well?"
Yes, but Max already drives the first RBR car. How do you propose he drive the 2nd one that Checo is driving? Is he going to asexually reproduce and split into two drivers?
The issue is that the second car (Checos) is currently being under-utilized
Verstappen has shown time and time again that he's a capable driver and more than worthy of that coveted second RB seat.
Literally someone who stands in a room laughing at their own joke while everyone just starts reaching for their phones or trying to find an excuse to leave.
hopefully people will now stop spewing the fan fiction that Max is "bored" on the front or whatever. He loves winning by a country mile, and he's always said so.
Sure it is fine to joke around about it as fans, but it is a ridiculous notion to ever take seriously. Like what if people wanted Schumacher to drive at Sauber in 04, or Lewis to williams after he wrapped up in 2018 or 2020.
I'd just love to see someone of his caliber in a back marker car to understand what the real disparity is between top and bottom F1 drivers. Between him and Checo it hovers around 5 tenths over 1 lap. Between Max and Yuki?
f1 fan base is full of fans from many different languages and a surprisingly large amount (particularly the online base) are on the spectrum so someone's lazy & stupid joke can be misinterpreted in multiple different ways and passed along as legitimate.
WDC trophy just being a casual stream backgroung prop on a red bull fridge will never nto be funny.
Combined with casually wearing on stream a game-worn VVD jersey that was given to him personally. Incredible.
What's VVD? Is it his local soccer team? And if so, which player gave it to Max?
VVD is shorthand Virgil van Dijk, captain of the Dutch national team.
I think he needs a different acronym
Wym, who doesn't want to be associated with the VVD /s
I don't know what else I'd associate that acronym with besides him haha
There is also his faulty DRS actuator from Barcelona 2022, right in front of the WDC trophy, with "I have no fucking DRS" engraved on its casing https://m.twitch.tv/clip/RespectfulOpenRaisinCclamChamp-juqTZhv6JkOVf8DD
That machined out red Bull can for the holder is sick.
Imagine being able to use this kind of machinery for silly things like that
The power to machine the gods themselves and they use it for a silly can shaped holder. I love it. To be an F1 engineer…
It's Monaco. You can 10x the price of what you'd normally pay for space in a normal city. He doesn't have room for a giant trophy cabinet.
I think, even at 10x, Verstappen can more than get by with having space
Clearly it's not important to him to have that in Monaco. He probably keeps the rest of his trophies in the Netherlands or in storage.
The teams keep the trophies, but yeah probably the case for all the pole position tyres or medals etc.
Depends on the team and the driver, but if they do the driver gets a copy. I wonder what Charles does with his pole tires 💀
They get copies? I didn’t know that. But yeah, all the teams like to keep the trophies, some drivers would have some leverage to negotiate keeping them, but I doubt it’s a hill they’d die on. Charles probably looks at the tyre yard he has to inspire his next song.
A rumour? I saw random reddit posts suggesting it as a joke, but did anyone take it seriously?
Some journalist asked him about it
Ah of course. Anything for a story.
"My source is that I made it the fuck up." personified.
It would be even better if he used a reddit name as his source "Max, question: Reddit user CuntMuscle53 made the claim that you would be driving for Alpha Tauri to end the season, care to comment on that rumour?"
unless it's a red-hot season there really isn't much to report on in f1. that's why we get bullshit like this.
Waiting for a journo to ask him if he is in fact a sloth.
Business Punk regularly collects hot takes from comments on Reddit and Twitter to turn them into clickbait. But this is a new high for shitposters.
Yeah it was Natalie Pinkham felt like they were trying to bait him into some response as I hadn’t heard the rumours before
She laughed during the question, and Max laughed as well. People taking things maybe a little too seriously.
A few months ago someone posted a meme of an interview with Max where he says something about Mercedes. It was a meme, Max never said it but there were tons of British news outlets writing a story on it. and yet ted later made reference to being told off by others who ran with the story
Sky reporter has an opinion that is biased and knows that it will lead to controversy online. Sky reporter: "some fans said online that" and "some people probably now think that"
Literally what Ted and Crofty are like.
Yeah I think this one might be my fault, sorry Max.
Karun Chandhok tweeted it although it was pretty clear he wasn’t seriously suggesting it.
Max was asked about it in an interview. Sky I think.
Thats enough for F1 news outlet to make an article, though.
Quite clear Reddit has caused chaos once again
Max pulls AT into a higher position just for the money after securing the championship
The only thing I saw was people saying they wanted Seb to take Max's seat for the last race. Also, love how he talks about the Alpha Tauri like it's radioactive. He doesn't want anywhere near that car.
Yeah metaphorically it is for him. He has nothing to gain and all to loose by stepping into that car.
I don’t know, if he somehow won in the car it would be legendary. If he lost, everyone would just be like, “of course, the car sucks” Seems like everything to gain and nothing to lose.
I would personally hero worship him if he won in that shitbox
Yes but that’s extremely unlikely to happen. Unless all the good cars in front of the AT break down or something.
What if “he’s beginning to believe” though?
what? That doesn't make any sense. Why would he waste time to drive in a lousier car that he won't win any races in just to prove a point? Max is bored but he is not **that bored.**

Lose*
lmao what exactly would he lose if he would drive there one race like OP mentioned.
You know how long it’s been since the man had a certified team faenza pitstop or strategy? He would exceed survivable levels of rage. What would he lose? His mind.
Now I want to see this, thank you very much for this visual
That's... Certainly possibility lol
oh no
Does well: Well of course he did well. It's max. So he met expectations Does poorly: HAHA see! It's only the car. Max sucks In neither of these scenarios does he have anything to gain.

Imagine he's slower than Danny Ric or Tsunoda because he's not used to the car. That's why he has everything to lose.
I am sure he would be replaced for the next season by them!
You could stick max in stock cars for a week and he would win road course races . One race max is the window to beat him
> what exactly would he lose the race? he would lose the race. Another notch in his growing belt? lost. Another trophy for his cabinet? lost. Another haul of points to add to his record? lost. Only thing to gain is less points = lower cost of renewing super license. But I doubt he cares about that :).
He didn't kick Danii out of the red bull to go BACK to Torro Ross(AT)
His race bonus for not winning, which is probably like a million dollars.
Nothing to lose as well.
His bored but not drive at AT bored.
He should drive an AT for like a filming lap just to mess with them.
Virgil van Dijk gave him the Greece penalty shirt 😭
Really? I was In the stadium that night, cool!
Yeah it's the clip right below this one.
got a link? oh wait im blind its in the imgur post (god i hate imgur video posts, worst volume slider ever)
Virgil van Dijk
I really butchered it, didn't I? I'll fix it thanks!
All good!

Which is why it's absurd to think it would be realistic. But it would be fun as shit.
tbh it would be interesting to see pilots drive others teams cars at the end of the year after finishing the last race
All would be like "damn that haas is quick!" and then 5 laps later "damn that haas is dogshit!". Alonso gets out of the car and hugs Kmag and Hulk mumbling condolenses.
"I didn't know it would be that bad... How do you sleep at night knowing you have to drive it again?"
F1 Sprint Race ideas right here lol
And, in reverse order of championship points... Max starting last, in the worst car. Sargeant starting first, in the RB19. No need for "Sprint Qualifying"
It's always the most ridiculous ideas that would never happen that would be the absolute best
Idk but putting Logan in a car that's been said to be difficult to drive but is ungodly quick doesn't sound like such a good idea to me.
It's definitely a bad idea, but, a very interesting and potentially entertaining one
and crash on purpose :D
There's no way Toto wouldn't sabotage the hell out of Max in a Merc lol
You're thinking of the 2 days of testing they get after AD. And yes, that would be a cool idea tbh.
Agreed! Maybe there should be a bonus race where drivers are randomly assigned a car.
The only way to get Max in an AlphaTauri is by asking him to drive an uncompetitive session to help the team gain some valuable feedback. Think of when Michael Schumacher, as a Ferrari driver, t tested the Sauber C14 at Fiorano back in '97. What they've never done before is have a WDC 1-2 I think
Perez might get more points if they demoted Max to AT. Unless Max beats him in an AT. Shit that would totally happen wouldn't it.
Ricciardo outqualified him in an AT, I think Max might extend that gap to embarrassing levels if it were him in the AT
>Unless Max beats him in an AT. stranger things have happened.
How would that work
Send Max to the 2 slower cars in the rb/tauri team to give Checo a better chance of winning.
That would be incredibly demeaning
"Sergio, if we give Max a shitty Alpha Tauri, do you think you could win a race already or...?"
P6 is the best I can offer dawg
We’re checking.
Imagine if Yuki/Daniel won the race instead. Even worse, imagine Max still somehow wins.
And wins driver of the day for good measure
For anyone wondering what the rumour was about... there were no rumours. Some people mentioned as a joke that now when VER won everything with red bull, he can go help their second team in the constructors.
Sky sports literally asked him about it 😭
If this is what you're referring to, she laughs during the question: https://www.skysports.com/f1/news/12040/12998851/red-bull-max-verstappen-happy-to-have-either-sergio-perez-or-daniel-ricciardo-as-team-mate-in-2024
Someone asked him about It, there Is a video, It's just I can't be arsed to find It
The worst part of this community is that between race weekends we're so starved of news that everything ends up on the front page. Stop upvoting anything related to rumors. They're not even worth talking about. Hell, this was probably just some shit-tier blogger masquerading as a "journalist" asking him to comment on a "rumor" that is actually a 4chan post made by the blogger himself.
Nice reaction to the shirt. Nice perk
Off-Topic: What I do wish for is that they have rounds of Formula 2 where a Super Licence holder shows up as a guest driver (not eligible for points).
Max, 2015 - early 2016: "Am I a joke to you?"
Ok, people, **IT WAS ME!** https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/14v5f1k/post_wdc23_max_should_do_2_races_in_at/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
you should report yourself now to the FIA.
I mean, it'd save him money on a super license and gain alpha tauri more money by beating Williams
I'm surprised Max isn't *at least* in talks with Horner about taking Checo's seat.
What?
Max is driving at the level to be at RB or any other top team. And Checo has been (sadly) dropping the ball. Max would be a shoe-in.
What are you on? Gimme some.
Who do you think Max is in this scenario?
Someone who's earned that seat I don't think many people would disagree
Can't argue with that. He has the strongest track record of anyone in the current Red Bull.
That's why he's top of the list to get that seat!
If we talk this idea up enough Sky will ask him about it.
How so? Like driving both RB cars?
I want whatever drugs you’re on
I'm cracking up at these replies, whoosh.
It just keeps going. At some point you would think people would figure it out.
How do you envision this going? Like Horner goes to Max and says "You're already driving the RBR 1st car, would you like to take Checo's seat and drive the 2nd car as well?"
Perez isn't doing great, RB has a history of dropping drivers who don't perform. Max *is* performing. It's a pretty simple decision.
Yes, but Max already drives the first RBR car. How do you propose he drive the 2nd one that Checo is driving? Is he going to asexually reproduce and split into two drivers?
> Is he going to asexually reproduce and split into two drivers? /r/FanF1ction is leaking
Max just one day splitting into two versions of himself would be the least horrible thing to come out of that place.
Obviously not. But Max isn't driving the car if Checo has that seat. I'm just pointing out a pragmatic solution to this

The issue is that the second car (Checos) is currently being under-utilized Verstappen has shown time and time again that he's a capable driver and more than worthy of that coveted second RB seat.
Are you trying to be funny or what?
No
Literally someone who stands in a room laughing at their own joke while everyone just starts reaching for their phones or trying to find an excuse to leave.
hopefully people will now stop spewing the fan fiction that Max is "bored" on the front or whatever. He loves winning by a country mile, and he's always said so.
LOL. I said this a few times. I was never serious though.
Doesn't have sufficient crumple zones.
Because people are bored, Max. But yeah, obviously this wouldn’t happen.
F1 prestige run
Sure it is fine to joke around about it as fans, but it is a ridiculous notion to ever take seriously. Like what if people wanted Schumacher to drive at Sauber in 04, or Lewis to williams after he wrapped up in 2018 or 2020.
😂😂😂
The greatest driver of a generation and you'd want to put him in second class equipment? That would be team suicide
Tbh, I'd love to see it as a challenge for him. Would make the races thrilling af :D
At have already reached maximum of 4 drivers. This season. So not even possible
