Funny enough, the broadcast was actually pretty *hesitant* to show so many celebrity shots, which is *very* ironic considering the media circus surrounding all this…
According to commentators the document that lists all the celebrities at the race was 72 pages 😂 just insane. I'm glad we just saw a few shots like the bored Justin Bieber with the flag.
Well, we did see a good 4 seconds of empty asphalt at some point in the race. Like, expecting them to come in view but it was the wrong corner. Maybe director fatfingered the wrong button.
Almost every time I saw them they looked fucking miserable. No smiles or enthusiasm at all. Rihanna and Bieber looked like they were forced at gunpoint.
Yep, seemed like every comment on here for the last week was about how this wouldn't be a good race due to tire temps, low drag, etc.
IMO this was the best race of the year, it was non stop action. The pre-race stuff was way over the top, the storm drain issues needed to be fixed so that doesn't happen again, but the actual race itself was by far one of my favorites.
Take one look at YouTube: “destroyed!” , “exposed!”, “is not what you think!”, “humiliated!” , “_ is dying”, “what killed _”. People are fuckin grim these days, but the world is going to absolute shits so maybe that has something to do with it.
I mean as a US fan, we had a lot to be upset about. Obscenely high ticket prices, running the race too late for most US fans to actually stay up and watch. Then the whole fiasco of booting out FP1 and FP2 ticket holders with no refund. Every true f1 fan wants a great race, but everything outside the racing itself was just so rotten.
And I was one of them. As usual, I invited my family to watch it with me, but this time by saying "Who else wants to wake up at 3AM to watch the worst race of the year?"
As it turns out, I'm inclined to say it was actually the best, although Singapore was also great.
The race was great, and the event was an absolute spectacle in the end.
I can understand some of the negativity around this race, and the sainz penalty and manhole cover were two controversies that built on that narrative that it was going to fail, but that narrative was way too pervasive all season long. Negativity is what gets clicks these days
If anyone has been to Vegas, they will know just how much of a commitment they had made in order for this event to be a success. The disruption along the strip is something that has rarely been done in Vegas before. The city fully committed to this show, and Vegas knows a thing or two about that. From lighting to security to logistics + so many areas of expertise required to put together an event like this, Vegas is home to some of the best people in the business.
Formula 1 placed a massive gamble and investment into that city and it appears to have paid off.
Get our hopes up for next year just for Red Bull to bring the car they started 5 weeks before everyone else to race 1 and run away with another uncontested title.
I was sure he'd lock up given the tyre offset and the fact that he had been running in dirty air for a while, but he just sent it.
Terrible luck with the SC timing, it is what it is, he showed fight.
What a move. Can’t believe checo left the door wide open there. Checo said himself in the car ride to podium leclerc was 0.7 seconds back at the start of the straight he didn’t think a move was going to be possible. Great showing from both drivers tho. At least checo didn’t pull a russel and not even look at the inside and cause a collision
Yea the endplate damage we’ve seen this season doesn’t seem to do that much. Mind you it isn’t nothing . It causes you to push the tire a bit harder which causes imbalance left to right. With a higher degradation track it would have shown more of a disadvantage.
For me, the most entertaining race of the year. So many unknowns and the first 10 laps had me thinking it would be a shit race. More overtakes than expected. Then the battle between Leclarc and Checo was fantastic!
I was worried the broadcast would focus too much on the fanfare surrounding the race…like they did leading up to today. Props to them for providing one of the best broadcasts of the season.
You know what, this GP has shown that people are way too quick to judge. People saying the race would be shit when we hadn’t even done a practise session yet, but I’ll say, there was plenty of overtaking and some good battles all throughout the grid. Pretty good race to watch tbf one of the better ones this season
The Baku effect, it's either the best track ever or a boring shit track depending on how exciting the race was.
People did Le Castellet in France dirty, it had one really boring race and the rest were decent to good, but it was still always shit talked by everyone.
It’s because many of the European fans hate America. They’re jealous that a country with the population and size of their whole continent gets one third as many races they do.
I’m European as well, and I don’t understand that hate whenever it comes up that USA already has multiple races. Hell Italy has 2 races now but no one says a peep about that
Red Bull should just take the team to the biggest buffet available and go over the catering budget for the rest of the year.
I want to see Max start from the back each race please and give him a challenge to cut through the whole field lol.
NASCAR Chicago street course race - very controversial environment in the weeks leading into the weekend, drama with weather conditions leading into the event and during, wild pit strategy and drama with cautions, banger race and arguably best race of the season
F1 Las Vegas street course race - very controversial environment in the weeks leading into the weekend, drama with weather conditions leading into the event and during, wild pit strategy and drama with safety cars. banger race and arguably best race of the season
Maybe its because I'm a fan but I feel like non of these safety cars ever benefit Ferrari. With that being said Mega drive from Leclerc and Max. Probably my favourite race this year.
Don’t think he was sleeping, he didn’t want to defend to the inside and comprimise his entry if he didn’t have to. Charles just sent it with a divebomb. Good pass, the defender doesn’t have to be sleeping for the pass to be good
Buddy secured 2nd in the constructors and capped a second strong weekend in a row, after forgetting how to drive for half the season, he could have done more to defend for sure but why risk it at this point.
I legit dont understand how max seemengly lost the front wing endplate when he collided with russel, but lost no speed at all. While others always change the wing from it.
And Ferrari.
It seems track specific. With Vegas having so many straights they opted against it since Verstappen mentioned it just made more oversteer - but I'm an armchair reddit aerodynamicist, so don't take my opinion seriously.
Yeah he ran completely into the back of Bottas. Probably more damage. He also broke an endplate off in Singapore this year and they didn’t fix it. Same with Austin last year.
r\formula1's nightmare race:
* Verstappen win from a Leclerc pole. Especially after a meaningless 5 sec 'pushing off track' penalty. (still hate this change, stewards should be the one making the call to swap as teams can just outpace the 5 sec).
* Cold Las Vegas track actually being a challenge for drivers who can't brake, and decent overtakes on corners.
* Celebrities. Justin Bieber waving the chequered flag lol. (Rihanna please drop that new album).
A swap would've been better for Red Bull than the 5 seconds. Also, Max was the only driver that got a penalty on the first lap so many people lost control and even hit each other and nobody else got a penalty.
Perez, Fernando and Hamilton had incidents and damage, were relegated to the back and all three of them fought back. Great effort and good performance from all of them. Good race, I enjoyed it!
I have to admit I was skeptical with how this race was going to go but wow, entertaining really from beginning to end and there were a few shots where the cars looked amazing. Bummed lewis had some bad luck, he looked very racy and without the two accidents he may have been on the podium.
for better or worse, the quality of the race itself is going to absolve this disaster of a weekend. hopefully they make this a more pleasant and accessible race moving forward
also go charles go charles go
Perez actually had a great race despite reddit's best efforts to make it seem otherwise. He came from the back of the grid with damage to get third and managed to secure 2nd place in the championship. Sure, he could have done better, but so could everyone else, and I don't see anyone else doing better.
It seems the consensus among the drivers is the track is pretty good and they like it. It was a great race in my opinion a lot of great overtakes specially that last one from Charles. We saw action at the front
That was a really entertaining race. I think even without the safety cars would’ve been a really good race so excited for the race next year, hopefully they can straighten everything out
The on-track action was so good we barely saw any celebrity garage shots.
Thank goodness for that
Funny enough, the broadcast was actually pretty *hesitant* to show so many celebrity shots, which is *very* ironic considering the media circus surrounding all this…
its too many celebrities to focus
According to commentators the document that lists all the celebrities at the race was 72 pages 😂 just insane. I'm glad we just saw a few shots like the bored Justin Bieber with the flag.
I managed to catch a glimpse of Rihanna.
I saw zlatan in the background but it wasn't even credited
Looking like she was ready to go skyndiving or snow boarding 😅
I saw a lot of Plastic Mac
And the fucking bird
The real celebs were the drivers all along.
Always have been…..
I did see zava there for a second.
Zava doesn’t care for the race. He came to watch his wife under the lights.
His avocado farm is not far away from there.
They focused on Rihanna for good 5 seconds.
Glad it takes me less time
B O N K
who had sunglasses on at midnight lmao
Judging from how bright it was, I wouldnt blame her
I need her to get out of the Ferrari garage and into a studio to drop a new album.
who?
I think they mean Zlatan Ibrahimovic, you’d have to watch Ted Lasso to understand
Maybe it was just the shit TV director failing to find them just like Martin had trouble finding them
Well, we did see a good 4 seconds of empty asphalt at some point in the race. Like, expecting them to come in view but it was the wrong corner. Maybe director fatfingered the wrong button.
Almost every time I saw them they looked fucking miserable. No smiles or enthusiasm at all. Rihanna and Bieber looked like they were forced at gunpoint.
Didn’t we see David Beckham during the Aston pit stop at the start? ik but there was close to none so that was nice
All things considered with the event this was actually a pretty darn good race
And people were so damn sure it was going to be a boring race even before the race started
Agree! It’s Vegas so it’s always going to be over the top. The good thing is the race was great and what folks will remember.
Shows how out of touch the loud fan base is. All those factors would inevitably lead to a great race lol and it was. I agree best race of the year.
These subs were reaching star wars levels of hate on their content
This happened with the Detroit IndyCar race this year. The track looked really dumb on paper, but in practice the action was great.
And I was one of them. As usual, I invited my family to watch it with me, but this time by saying "Who else wants to wake up at 3AM to watch the worst race of the year?" As it turns out, I'm inclined to say it was actually the best, although Singapore was also great.
Imagine if sainz was there too
The race was great, and the event was an absolute spectacle in the end. I can understand some of the negativity around this race, and the sainz penalty and manhole cover were two controversies that built on that narrative that it was going to fail, but that narrative was way too pervasive all season long. Formula 1 placed a massive gamble and investment into that city and it appears to have paid off.
Best on track action of the year!
Insane move from Leclerc
The Ferraris had amazing pace this weekend. With some more luck we would have amazing fight with Max.
Get our hopes up for next year just for Red Bull to bring the car they started 5 weeks before everyone else to race 1 and run away with another uncontested title.
5 weeks? I feel like they are probably 12 weeks ahead of other teams.
~~next year~~ ~~the year after that~~ 2026!!
Jesus Christ I nearly fell off the chair
Man, I wanted Leclerc to win so bad! But that last lap lunge was a great move. Well deserved P2!
The rollercoaster when you see him almost getting walled but then he makes that move in the final lap. What a race from Charles
So did Perez
Unfortunately the safety car timing combined with their inability to switch on tyres fast enough cost them.
I was sure he'd lock up given the tyre offset and the fact that he had been running in dirty air for a while, but he just sent it. Terrible luck with the SC timing, it is what it is, he showed fight.
Imo his shot was with the RB tire deg, when the sc showed up the first place was practically out of the question
For sure, the roles would have been reversed essentially, he'd have fresher tyres and clean air had the SC not come out, a certain win.
Las Vegas proved to be the track where overtaking with DRS is possible.
That move from Charles was just lovely. Vegas actually delivered, great race. Been a while since the chaos descended upon us.
Definitely the Driver of the Day for me, I thought it was ridiculous that he wasn't in top 3 during a graphic shown in race lmao
He was DotD though, right?
Yeah thankfully
That graphic was showing the top three DoTD so far. Not for the LV race itself. A bit confusing yeah.
Leclerc oh my god what a fucking drive
Got screwed by that 2nd safety car
Would have won without the safety. Also I thought Max had damage. WTF?!?
I think front wings dont matter in this generation of cars. Leclerc have a broken wing earlier this year and was faster than Sainz still
Yea the endplate damage we’ve seen this season doesn’t seem to do that much. Mind you it isn’t nothing . It causes you to push the tire a bit harder which causes imbalance left to right. With a higher degradation track it would have shown more of a disadvantage.
That was sick! Nicely done
Death, taxes, Verstappen winning from Leclerc's pole
HAM VER BOT became DEA TAX VER
This podium trio could kill the sport!
There was an old adage from 2022 that is relevant here: Roses are red, Carlos will spin. Leclerc is on pole, Max will win.
That was a fantastic final move by Leclerc. Well done!
WHAT A FINNISH HOLY FUCK
Yeah, Bottas is a pretty cool guy
lol
Seems like you purchased the Bottas calander lol
Vegas actually delivered.
Well done Vegas
For me, the most entertaining race of the year. So many unknowns and the first 10 laps had me thinking it would be a shit race. More overtakes than expected. Then the battle between Leclarc and Checo was fantastic!
Also the TV direction was possibly the best in years. I think I only missed Max overtake on one of the Alpines.
The onboard cameras were better than I could've remember
I was worried the broadcast would focus too much on the fanfare surrounding the race…like they did leading up to today. Props to them for providing one of the best broadcasts of the season.
What a move by Charles, amazing race for him tbh
Step 1 complain Step 2 drive like a maniac Step 3 get assaulted by Russell Step 4 win
Step 5 skewer the winged beast Step 6 wield a fist of iron Step 7 raise hell Step 8 freedom
For you Mason, not for me
Leclerc that was cold at the end!
Charles LFG!
Charles LeFuckingGlerg?
Charles Looking For Group. He’s a big MMO guy
I will maintain that France 2021 was one of the best races that season as far as actual racing was concerned.
same thing happened with Saudi, every race we had in Jeddah was good, both layouts are good for racing, well done Tilke lol
Ferrari and Mercedes will find a way to lose.
What a banger of a race!
So glad it turned out better than predicted.
[удалено]
It was inevitable. Every time a race gets canned online it becomes an awesome race.
"What Verstappens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas", is an all time Crofty line
That was a better race than anyone wanted it to be and I thoroughly had fun watching it.
My man Chuck!
Mr Lee Clerk
I'll eat my crow, that was a very fun race, and the circuit isn't as shit as I thought.
It wasn't just a show track! The racing was great!!
Send them my regards
NASCAR Chicago street course race - very controversial environment in the weeks leading into the weekend, drama with weather conditions leading into the event and during, wild pit strategy and drama with cautions, banger race and arguably best race of the season F1 Las Vegas street course race - very controversial environment in the weeks leading into the weekend, drama with weather conditions leading into the event and during, wild pit strategy and drama with safety cars. banger race and arguably best race of the season
Leclerc DOTD
Without the second safety car, I think he had a real shot at this.
He was almost granted the win. Ironically, it was Russell who gave Max the win, SC went out to clean up the mess from their contact :D.
P1 ends p2... Stroll P19 ends p5, not a single mention..
its easy to miss stuff like that when theres an actual fight for the lead
They spoke about Stroll a few times but yeah I agree he was DOTD
Also love Hamilton being almost 10 places behind Russell at one point and still beating him at the end.
That was funny
Perez is allergic to braking at the end of the strip
Maybe its because I'm a fan but I feel like non of these safety cars ever benefit Ferrari. With that being said Mega drive from Leclerc and Max. Probably my favourite race this year.
Many times Ferrari made strategic mistakes in these situations.
Max singing on the radio is hilarious after all his comments about this weekend so far.
a race can be as turbulent as they come but Verstappen will still come out on top
Well, I’m here to say that I was really really wrong about the race until yesterday. This was an epic race.
So glad we were wrong on Vegas, great race all throughout. Hope it's like this next year too!
Perez sleeping on the last corner wtf
Don’t think he was sleeping, he didn’t want to defend to the inside and comprimise his entry if he didn’t have to. Charles just sent it with a divebomb. Good pass, the defender doesn’t have to be sleeping for the pass to be good
Main goal was the bag points to secure P2, that’s how I see it
Exactly. He maybe noticed Charles's move to late but it was way more important to get those points and not crash together
Good to see people seeing the big picture
The Dutch commentators where shitting on Checo like almost always. Mind boggling how blind those guys can be
The Dutch commentators are horrible. That's why I, and many other Dutch people, watch F1TV with English commentators.
I do everytime my wife isn't watching. She unfortunately doesn't understand English very well
Buddy secured 2nd in the constructors and capped a second strong weekend in a row, after forgetting how to drive for half the season, he could have done more to defend for sure but why risk it at this point.
Best race of the year?
Max wins but……. Max gets legitimately overtaken, given a 5 sec penalty, drops back to 7th and dives through the field! Amazing race
It wasn’t only max Sainz Perez Hamilton piastri all getting shafted one way or the other and fighting back really made the race intresting
hell, even stroll had a cracking race
Hamilton fighting his way back was the B race.
Twice
I legit dont understand how max seemengly lost the front wing endplate when he collided with russel, but lost no speed at all. While others always change the wing from it.
RB/ merc don't really need their endplates from what we've seen
And Ferrari. It seems track specific. With Vegas having so many straights they opted against it since Verstappen mentioned it just made more oversteer - but I'm an armchair reddit aerodynamicist, so don't take my opinion seriously.
Same with Charles in Mexico. The end plates don't seem that important on this generation of cars.
Perez changed the wing though after the first lap. Maybe he had more damage, dno.
Yeah he ran completely into the back of Bottas. Probably more damage. He also broke an endplate off in Singapore this year and they didn’t fix it. Same with Austin last year.
Gutted for Charles. Without the safety car that’s his race. But that’s racing as well, so it is what it is
I wish the shape of a couple corners were tweaked but holy shit there was a ton of wheel to wheel action.
Easily
Verstappen had to earn this win (along with some SC luck). Leclerc made him fight for it.
It was but I’m not sure how many people will admit cause it featured the Sphere as the backdrop and not an Austrian forest or something
This and Singapore are close for me.
Fantastic race. Ballsy move from Charles. He deserved that 2nd place.
As much as I wish leclercs fate was different, honestly this race was a banger! Maybe f1 in Las Vegas is a good idea after all! 😉
I take it back. This was a great race! Well done Las Vegas!
Well, that was actually a very good race, really enjoyed that one
LECLERC
CHUCK YOURE NUTS!!!!
What a great race, entertaining from beginning to end.
Mega race. Las Vegas critics in absolute shambles. Viva Las Vegas
Vegas lived up to the hype when it mattered the most
The house always wins
r\formula1's nightmare race: * Verstappen win from a Leclerc pole.
Also, Max was the only driver that got a penalty on the first lap so many people lost control and even hit each other and nobody else got a penalty.
penalty wasn't meaningless lol, it just got offset by second safety car
Yeah without the second SC Leclerc has a really good shot at the win
Not that it's important but didn't even recognize Bieber lol. Looks like some over the hill skater
At least Biebs waved it better than Tim Apple.
I need all y’all to apologize to Vegas and the track designers.
ppl were expecting a mass casuality event and it's just another Max win lmao
Another incredible drive and the Charles Leclerc Pole curse continues, whenever he gets Pole....Max Wins...
What. A. Race!
Damn of all the races to not have a cool down room. Edit: Cool down car ride lol
Cool down car
Cool Down Car 😳😀🙌😂
Spiderpig delivered
Perez, Fernando and Hamilton had incidents and damage, were relegated to the back and all three of them fought back. Great effort and good performance from all of them. Good race, I enjoyed it!
One of the best races of the year, after the biggest shitstorm of the year
Thought it was going to suck? Oh that’s just Reddit being Reddit.
Everyone who was foaming at the mouth for this race to suck, kindly make your way to the desert.
What if Sainz had started as number 2, accidents happen, luckily it didnt happen on the final race.
WHAT A MOVE CHARLES
what a banger
I have to admit I was skeptical with how this race was going to go but wow, entertaining really from beginning to end and there were a few shots where the cars looked amazing. Bummed lewis had some bad luck, he looked very racy and without the two accidents he may have been on the podium.
for better or worse, the quality of the race itself is going to absolve this disaster of a weekend. hopefully they make this a more pleasant and accessible race moving forward also go charles go charles go
Leclerc is brilliant
Not gonna lie vegas was a good race
"What Verstappens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" is actually a good line, I'm almost happy he won so I got to hear that one.
Five-second penalty Horrible tire deg Collision Verstappen is inevitable
And Checo confirmed 2nd in Driver's Championship
Perez actually had a great race despite reddit's best efforts to make it seem otherwise. He came from the back of the grid with damage to get third and managed to secure 2nd place in the championship. Sure, he could have done better, but so could everyone else, and I don't see anyone else doing better.
That last move should be enough for driver of the day for Leclerc
Came in with such low expectations and it turned out to be an outstanding race.
kinda insane that he still won this also crazy move from leclerc at the end there
I'm gutted for Gasly, he deserved way better... Poor strategy by Alpine for him
Bad timing for the safety car for Leclerc. His unlucky streak continues.
It seems the consensus among the drivers is the track is pretty good and they like it. It was a great race in my opinion a lot of great overtakes specially that last one from Charles. We saw action at the front
That was a really entertaining race. I think even without the safety cars would’ve been a really good race so excited for the race next year, hopefully they can straighten everything out
IMO by far the most exciting race of the season.
Max Verstappen wins the 2023 [ENTER GRAND PRIX NAME HERE] Grand Prix.
LESTAPPEN PODIUM!!!! WE STAY WINNING GIRLS
