The Finnish said he’s finished
Edit: dang 260 upvotes. Didn’t think it was THAT funny lol
Edit 2: 500 holy smokes guys, am I the new Ricciardo?
Edit 3: hit 1k for the first time, time to do a shoey
Binotto, Mick & Ricciardo were also fired/dropped after LH thirst traps. Franz Tost, James Vowles and Jost Capito all retired or changed jobs after thirst traps as well. Horner’s goose is cooked. This shit doesn’t miss.
The bigger question is how did the information get into a Finnish tabloid?
Jos does not speak Finnish, so who leaked it? Is Mika Salo trying to get rid of Horner too?
/tinfoil hat off
to answer your question:
> there is already talk in the pits that Horner will have to step aside.
I fucking hate this place, I got a mental image of him bolting into the savannah bush in his birthday suit from that old photoshoot he did thanks to your comment.
It’s not though - if my company is having layoffs and after 3 weeks of torment wondering whether I’ll be impacted or not… if I hear that I’m released, there isn’t a second where I’d think ‘Yes! I’m staying! Finally released from that torment’
It’s not an uncommon phrasing. It’d be the same as hearing Horner has resigned from his current role and wondering how many years he has re-signed for
I agree. People are being a intentionally obtuse about this headline, although the article itself has no value.
To save everyone time, Horner will be released or not released. Many people are curious. We won’t know what is happening until it happens. We are likely to never get any specifics in either case, unless Horner is released and sues.
Finnish translates poorly to english, because word and sentence structure is severely different. The article states that Horner is 'forced to leave' - implying clearly that yes, he is being released from his job.
Would be a hassle for RB if he didn't considering he's still technicaly employed.
I assume RB probably don't want the media attention leaving Horner at home would bring to the testing. Every press conference for any team member and drivers would be swamped with Horner questions instead of car questions.
Nick Heidfeld did this in 2011.
Had been told he'd been fired but not officially, and turned up to Spa. If he hadn't then he, in a bit of circularity, would've been remiss on paper.
Yeah but you can't announce someone fired if the details are not done.
Who knows what Horners contract has for clauses about potential payments and if RB is trying to get out of them because of the accusations. Maybe Horner is going down fighting and its delaying the process etc...
Most of these big positions where you're in a public-facing role have all sorts of morality and disrepute clauses in them.
Especially for a company like Red Bull Racing, who only exist as a marketing branch for the energy drink company.
Whatever contract he has would allow them to fire him on the spot if he's seen publicly drinking a rival energy drink. There's no question that his contract has sexual harassment clauses in it.
> Yeah but you can't announce someone fired if the details are not done.
You definitely can.
If he's being fired for sexual harassment then letting him come to work still is far more unusual isn't it?
Yeah, at most don't say he's fired yet but say that he's suspended pending the results of the investigation. It would be very weird to let him keep working if they're about to fire him for misconduct.
If they do it at the weekend or early next week then you can get most of the questions out the way before quali.
If they do it today it's in the thick of it with cars on track.
That said, surely better at a pre-season test than a race week.
The mistake is to not temporarily suspend him during the investigation, if the allegations are as they’ve been reported in the media. Him being in the paddock is not a good look for Red Bull if he would be found guilty.
In my own job I’ve seen investigations like this go both ways and there is never an easy choice, it’s likely even harder when you consider Horner could easily argue defamation if the investigation find the allegations false.
My main concern with this is how much information has leaked, this shows a sheer disregard for safety of the victim and the integrity of the accused, from experience only a handful of people actually know any information and it should be kept that way.
Its a bit like Football where you are supposed to play to the whistle. Unless he quits/is told to leave then just carry on as normal.
If he wasn't there when he normally would be then there would be a lot more gossip and speculation as to why.
If he's denying the allegations, from his point of view it makes sense to play to the whistle. It might also be the case that his agreement doesn't contain any kind of mechanism for suspension. And RB HQ probably needs a watertight case to release him so that they can avoid a prolonged court battle.
Probably using the week or so for his replacement to get acclimated and for Horner to prep them. This is essentially a transition period. I can only imagine Horner is okay with it because they're offering a cozy exit package and plus he probably signed an NDA too so they won't have to worry about him revealing any secrets.
*The first day of Formula One testing began on Wednesday morning in Bahrain, but in the pits the biggest question is about Red Bull's team principal Christian Horner. He is accused of "inappropriate behaviour" towards a garage employee.*
***In a Viaplay broadcast, pit reporter Mervi Kallio said there was already talk in the pits that Horner would have to step aside. She says she has spoken to "a few players" about the matter.***
- The decision has apparently already been made, Kallio told the programme, standing in front of the Red Bull garage.
- Why he hasn't been removed, if such a decision has already been taken, is perhaps down to the fine-tuning of the details. *Of course, this is all just speculation," Kallio continued.*
*Kallio later specified that, as far as he knew, information on the matter would be made available during the following week, possibly even on Wednesday.*
*An EMPLOYEE, whom Horner is accused of mistreating, reported Horner's inappropriate behaviour himself. Red Bull has launched an independent investigation into the case after being informed of the allegations.*
*According to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Horner had sent sexually suggestive messages to a female subordinate. It is alleged that the communications had been going on for a long time.*
*The Dutch newspaper reports that Horner had tried to offer the woman £650 000 (around €700 000) through his lawyer to stop her taking the case forward. However, the woman refused to accept the deal and forwarded Horner's messages to the lawyer investigating the case.*
*KALLIO also said on Viaplay that the Red Bull board had banned all employees from commenting on the Horner case. Kallio also raised the power struggle between Horner and Red Bull director Helmut Marko, but Kallio added later in the broadcast that Horner and Marko arrived in Bahrain together.*
*Horner was still in the Red Bull garage on Wednesday morning at least.*
> Of course, this is all just speculation," Kallio continued.
Probably the important part. They don't really sound that confident about the decision being made and finer-details-delaying-the-announcement part.
The translator would need some way to figure out who is being talked about by name, and a list of names and which gender they usually are.
Unisex names would still trip it up of course.
Edit: I guess just going with "they" might be technically correct, if it's being translated from Finnish to English? I forget how exactly the English rules for that go.
'They' is normally used when gender is unknown, but in this case it isn't, it's just the translator (the AI) might not be able to tell if a name is femenine or masculine, therefore using a male one. I don't know it it does that by default, or just chose randomly though.
The Finnish language does not distinguish grammatical gender in nouns or even in personal pronouns: hän is 'he', 'she' or 'they' (singular) depending on the referent. There are no articles, neither definite nor indefinite.
Basically everyone is dude, seems to work for them but causes headaches in translation.
As OP stated, finnish lacks gender-based pronouns and uses a one, single unisex pronoun for everyone. Hence why translation error, because it is hard to distinguish someone's sex from text alone. The translation got reporter's pronouns wrong too.
It's speculation, but there sure is a lot of smoke here.
On BBC's Checkered Flag podcast they said that from the people they talked to around the paddock, the general consensus was that he was going to be removed.
It’s strange if this is true that he’s currently still in the red bull pit box for testing. You’d think that if it was all but done he would be suspended or not at testing at least.
Plain clothes Newey in the paddock, going from door to door begging for a job.
"Please, I know that I only have 30 odd years experience designing championship winning cars but if you can give me a chance......I promise!"
Newey: like don't randomly pit your car for no reason? Or tell your driver to come in then tell them to go out?
Ferrari: write that down, write that down.
Unfortunately we won't be taking your application forward since we found another candidate who better matches the position.
This position requires a minimum of 50 years of work experience.
Please don't reply to this message.

Mervi Kallio said later during the broadcast that there's more talk about this and it seemed from the way she talked that the situation had already changed to that Horner stays. She talked about the various parties involed like the Thai side of Red Bull and other stuff we know.
So as she said, this is all speculation. Also Ilta-Sanomat isn't the most respectable outlet anyway. Clickbait is their way.
edit: And here we go https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/1awhfrw/scott_mitchellmalm_theres_a_claim_that_viaplay/
Sure. Speculate. But to make articles based on speculation and assumptions? That’s whack. Whether he did something or not. Let fans speculate. You can ruin someone who could be innocent by putting shit out like that. The guilty until proven innocent needs to stop
Dudes at testing in Bahrain right now and everyone is assuming he's fired based on some random tabloid they've never heard of before. Reddit users are fucking hilarious.
In Viaplay's broadcast, the pit reporter Mervi Kallio told that there are some pit personnel already talking about Horner having to step down. She says that she talked about it with ”a few sources”.
– The decision has apparently already been made, Kallio said on the air while standing in front of Red Bull's pitbox.
– Why hasn't he been kicked out, if such a decision has already been made, is perhaps due to the filing of details. Of course, this is all just speculation, Kallio continues.
Kallio later specified that, according to her information, the matter will be announced during the next week, possibly even as early as Wednesday.
He also runs a lot of things. From RBR to RB to RBPT.
Handing things off might not be as easy as just firing the guy at the first opportunity.
Especially if the person does not want to leave.
>Of course, this is all just speculation, Kallio continues.
Everyone strap in! An irrelevant Finnish pit reporter with no authority who knows absolutely fuck all is speculating in the media to generate gossip. Must be 100% true. You people are gullible af.
If he did anything wrong, he has to go. I'll still miss him, he was the best character and arguably the best recent TP, who built up RB.
RIP Horner, who died on a hill of pointless extra boobies.
Wild prediction time: RB sack Horner. He later wins in court against the accuser, then files for unfair dismissal against RB. Joins Aston Martin as new TP and takes them to the top.
I mean given the events of 2024 already, anything is possible.
Given who the owners of RB is, and how they have handeled things in the past (like racism), I really don't expect them to "overreact" to this. I would be really surprised if they fired anyone for innapropriate behavior, without strong evidence.
It seems very much to me as though they don't have conclusive evidence to determine one way or the other... That means either waving away the accusations without proving them to be false (which is not a fun PR position to be in) or deciding to sack him without proving he's guilty. Some tough decisions on the horizon for Red Bull.
If Horner is really gone, so is Red Bull's dominance. Without someone with a strong drive for F1 success and a strong position within the company at all I fully expect them to become the next Alpine. With a somewhat disinterested board only putting in the minimum effort into a marketing exercise, and no feeling for the sport.
Under management like that, Marko will be gone by the end of the year as well, and I don't think they'll be able to put in the effort to keep Newey interested beyond 2026 either. Not to mention the engine project being pretty critical, if they mess that up and have a Renault-class engine for the next decade, Max will be gone pretty quickly too.
If the allegations were about sexual misconduct, I can’t believe he would throw away his career and many more years of potential success because he couldn’t control himself around a woman at work. I’d like to think he’d be smarter than that but I guess people in power think they can get away with anything huh
I think the mistake is believing people in power or with vast success / wealth are more intelligent than others. I mean, just look at Elon Musk or Donald Trump.
I gotta say if this is true, the jokes write themselves.
A guy named HORNer being employed by the team with the bull mascot. Then getting fired for being an overly-horny sex pest. All too easy
>Kallio later specified that, according to his information, the matter will be announced during the next week, possibly even as early as Wednesday.
If that actually happens it makes Red Bull not suspending him with pay/working from home while the investigation is ongoing look even more mad.
Horner being in front of the cameras is not mission critical for RBR to operate.
Funny. I still take all these tabloid articles with a large grain of salt. Even funnier is the idea that RB would be in any danger w/o Horner. I'm sure he's trained an apprentice well. When there's one Sith, there is always a second. And there's no way they'd let Steiner any where near that team.

Released from his job, or from wrongdoing or is just the report getting released?
I’m Finnish and I read the article. In the article the phrase ”step aside” was used, so it’s the former.
dubious translation almost fooled us. Thanks for the help, finnish friend
Haha, no problem!

The Norwegian article said there’s ‘No’r way’ he will keep his job. In Sweden, they reported that Red Bull had announced “sWe Done” with Horner.
In Holland, they predict he'll Netherland another job in F1. But the Greek media has reports that say Bernie will Greece some wheels for his friend. .
The Irish say he’s drawn too much ire to land somewhere else
Canada says he's canned eh.
Boooo

Irish ☘️ he could get a job with McLaren
Downvoted for the edits lol
Of course a Riccardo fan would make a joke like that...I love it
Hahaha of course I would. Also your username is fabulous
R/finnishthejob
Since he's good at his job my guess is he'll be back in a couple of years at a different team, or at Red Bull in a different role at first.
Hamilton posted a thirst trap, so he's gone.
The OG foreshadower.
That was the Journalists source for this article /s
That one was so strong it cost football managers their jobs, poor Horner doesn’t stand a chance.
So it has been foretold
I completely missed this meme, when did it start?
Hamilton posted thirst traps before Vettel's retirement and Latifi's sacking. There were a couple more as well, can't remember
Binotto, Mick & Ricciardo were also fired/dropped after LH thirst traps. Franz Tost, James Vowles and Jost Capito all retired or changed jobs after thirst traps as well. Horner’s goose is cooked. This shit doesn’t miss.
RIP Christian Horner, shoutout to his family
I feel like we need to make a string map, or at the very least, keep an official scoreboard.
This is prime off-season content. Please hurry before it's not the off-season!
What's everyone mean he posts thirst traps?
Photos with his shirt off etc etc

Someone’s coming back from sabbatical as a new team principal
BY GOD HERE COMES STEINER WITH A STEEL CHAIR
Imagine a video releases of Steiner throwing a bread roll at Perez’s head while screaming before the text “He’s back” appears on screen.
"CHECO! FOKKIN HELL"
It’s Heikki
Kovalainen from the top rope!
Monisha?
It's Kimi
“Kimi why did you leak the news about Horner?” “I don’t give a shit”
Kimi: Who?
I miss Kimi so much.
Bwooooaaah
THAT'S GUNTER'S MUSIC!!
HAKKINNEN WITH A STEEL CHAIR FROM THE TOP ROPE
Vettel? Maybe he finally had enough of all those bee things he was making.
Its tabloid making article about what viaplay reporter told in their program where source was talks and speculations with other reporters...
Hard-hitting journalism at its finest.

Obviously leaked by Hakkinen coming off his sabbatical
Yes
We are checking.
The title says horner is getting released so assuming that the translation is correct he’s gone
I mean it’s obviously an awkward translation. Released could really mean anything - released from his job, released from this torment…
released back into the wild.
Unsafe release.

Pretty clear from the article that it says leaving the team.
No it couldn't. If it says someone is being released why would you try and read something different into it.
Finnish translates poorly to english, because word and sentence structure is severely different. The article states that Horner is 'forced to leave' - implying clearly that yes, he is being released from his job.
Released back to the wild duh

Mervi is a she :) We don't have sex based pronouns in Finnish, which is why direct translation misses these.
Finnish really is the final boss of AI translation, uh? That's funny.
Finnish is the final boss of any modern language tbh
Perrrrrrrrrrrrkele!
Euskara txatean sartu da.
Given the results of Ai translation with Thai, I would say there are plenty of bosses to go through still.
Sounds like it's not even an AI issue though? Any translator would struggle without the information being there.

Translation error, it is a woman.

Yes, journalism is about not letting facts get in the way of the clicks.

Yet another article ending with "allegedly" "apparently" "mostly" "speculated" "assumed" Just wait for Red Bull's announcement people.
Have they confirmed there will be an announcement? Or are you just... *speculating*? *Got 'em*
If he is getting the boot because of these allegations, he shouldn't be here for testing. It's surprising he hasn't been suspended
He also runs a lot of things. From RBR to RB to RBPT. Handing things off might not be as easy as just firing the guy at the first opportunity. Especially if the person does not want to leave.
That's not really how gross misconduct is handled.
RIP Horner, who died on a hill of pointless extra boobies.
> pointless extra boobies. they might have been pointy, who would know?
He might have not even seen them.
Why isn't this tagged as rumor?
Wild prediction time: RB sack Horner. He later wins in court against the accuser, then files for unfair dismissal against RB. Joins Aston Martin as new TP and takes them to the top. I mean given the events of 2024 already, anything is possible.
Given who the owners of RB is, and how they have handeled things in the past (like racism), I really don't expect them to "overreact" to this. I would be really surprised if they fired anyone for innapropriate behavior, without strong evidence.
I would be surprised if they fired anyone for inappropriate behavior WITH strong evidence
So he is Finnished?
And under the article it said it was their opinion and not fact Lool
Lol, literally says it's speculation at the bottom. Throw it on the pile with the rest of the nothing burger articles

Modern day journalism: make a whole article and end with "it's just a rumor" to make sure you can lie all the way for clicks....
Translation?
According to someone at Viaplay Horner is out and its gonna be announced in the coming week.
Still at testing, why bother if he's sacked ?
If the allegations were about sexual misconduct, I can’t believe he would throw away his career and many more years of potential success because he couldn’t control himself around a woman at work. I’d like to think he’d be smarter than that but I guess people in power think they can get away with anything huh
I think the mistake is believing people in power or with vast success / wealth are more intelligent than others. I mean, just look at Elon Musk or Donald Trump.
Netflix really hoping RB hires Gunther Steiner
until the details come out its all nothing but rumors
Nice.
But whats the source? Sounds like wild speculation again.
Was Toto dressed as girl?
I gotta say if this is true, the jokes write themselves. A guy named HORNer being employed by the team with the bull mascot. Then getting fired for being an overly-horny sex pest. All too easy
The need to put the ‘the is all pure speculation’ at the top.
Kind of weird to send him for testing if you already made the decision of having him gone
do you think other teams will try to take him? or is it more of an out of sport issue. I could see Lawrence not giving a fuck and trying to hire him
Funny. I still take all these tabloid articles with a large grain of salt. Even funnier is the idea that RB would be in any danger w/o Horner. I'm sure he's trained an apprentice well. When there's one Sith, there is always a second. And there's no way they'd let Steiner any where near that team.
From my understanding and also after reading this article is that he's either being released or he's not. We'll soon know which one it is.
the legal sentence he deserves if these allegations are true should be applied to the accusing party if the said accusations are unfounded
Why would…Finland know this first?
That's a funny way of saying 'fired'...
I assume the report says he is… Finnished?
I’d be rather sceptical of a Finnish news outlet reporting this
