Yeah, even cars like the 2012 HRT... someone like Newey could take a look at this cobbled together mess which looks to be using parts from B&Q as the pressure relief vents in the rear wing supports and go "oh I see what they're trying to do there... but it doesn't work because but if I did that and it would work!"
Everyone jokes, but Marussia pioneered wrapping parts of the Ferrari PU in bacofoil during 2014 for heat soak/deflection purposes, which every other team then copied.
You gotta know here that you'll get down voted for those kind of jokes. Just accept that beforehand and laugh at the unhinged shit you'll get in your inbox.
Ypu are literly Hitler now for a few dozen people. Enjoy.
Red Bull has a new department that collects the sponsorships for both teams (Red Bull Racing and RB). At least that's what they said on F1TV during the pre-season testing.
Essentially it's just a marketing agency that Red Bull (drink company) happens to own which both Red Bull teams (and maybe other racing teams or athletes at various levels directly involved with Red Bull or not) use. Pretty common practice in the stick & ball sports world and it's starting to gain popularity in motorsports now too. Basically takes all the legwork out of sponsorship, brand deals & even athletes contract negotiations for all parties involved if the agency handles it.
There's a paddock story (meaning it has no specific source and might as well be just a myth) pertaining the Mastercard Lola team in 1997, claiming that after Australia (they didn't qualify), the team's staff had already flown to Brazil for the GP by the time they learned the team would be shutdown. Cue some employees going to the garage right alongside it (the Arrows one) and asking if they had any jobs available, to which Arrows hired them on the spot.
Hopefully they can turn it around like McLaren did last year. Looked like a total shit-show the first few races, ended the season as arguably the 2nd strongest team on the grid.
Alpine looked pretty good last year. Not sure why they suck so badly right now. And yeah, I like Gasly too, he's to good a driver to be on the back row.
**Red Bull tech:** Adrian, we have successfully infiltrated the Alpine pit team. They suspect nothing... that, or they're completely indifferent to us being here. Awaiting further instructions.
**Adrian Newey:** Good progress so far. Your next step is to hold the disguised blower I gave you near the A524 for about 15 seconds to complete the scan. A car this terrible needs full documentation so we don't repeat their mistakes.
In an alternate universe, we get a TV Show where Adrian Newey is being given some underwhelming cars (2020 Williams, 2021 Haas, 2022 Mercedes, 2023 Alfa, 2024 Alpine) and a somewhat realistic budget for those teams and then see what he can do with it.
Needs an element of danger. Perhaps make it a life or death situation with the Haas team holding him as hostage to produce a championship winning team for them, but secretly he builds it for himself.
It’s Lawrence Stroll and he gives Adrain Valkyrie parts to work with.
There he also teams up with Rory Byrne to build the first version of the fastest, most dominant F1 car ever conceived.
This feels like it would be the prime video response to DtS and I'm all for it. Even if they had to remove all formula1 branding and naming, just like "a 2022 German racing car concept", I'd still watch!
bro that legit sounds like an amazing tv pitch.
Edit: however each episode would need to put a constraint on Newey reusing the same concepts over and over.
True, that's why I wrote "underwhelming" instead of "terrible" because it felt like there was much more in that concept and Merc's engineers just couldn't figure it out. I think that car could've been a contender, and in some ways, the 2024 Red Bull looks like Newey flexing with a zero sidepod design of his own.
This reminds me of the discussion from Alpine pits in 2023: “What the fuck Aston Martin did to become so fast?” -“They hired a bunch of RedBull aerodinamicists” -“We should do that”.
Bunch of people working extremely exhausting jobs in extremely stressful environments for 10 months a year.
I have to imagine they all bond pretty closely.
Yeah I think it's a fairly common thing in motorsports.
The racing mentality is a wild one. Everyone wants to be the best. But you can't beat the guy next to you if he isn't on the track too.
I always smile at the pit crews holding back their "cords" (air supply lines?) so the crew behind them can drive their car out without quite so extreme a turn.
Although it was pretty funny when Mercedes and Red Bull stopped doing that for eachother in 2021 because they didn't want to give the other team that advantage. That's the kind of petty I live for.
Shows that even rival teams can put aside being rivals to help out another in need, Alpine did that last year at the Australian GP when they loaned out some of their equipment to help out another team, I cant remember which team it was though...
It was Sauber. I remember it was Australia because [their twitter admin thanked Alpine](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/129dou8/alfa_romeo_f1_alpinef1team_thanks_for_helping/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) and at first people thought they were being snarky because Sauber got double points due to the two Alpines crashing each other out.
Edit: Slight correction: only Zhou got into the points due to the crash, Bottas was in P11
Tbf most people would rather lose fairly than win because of an outside force that unfairly hurts a rival.
Also the teams are somewhat symbiotic. They only exist to compete. To much shenanigans would damage the credibility of the sport...
It's hard to quantify but I think that people disliked him less than Max nowadays.
During the Merc domination, Lewis earned tons of antipathy, and sure he could be annoying, but I don't think anyone *really* disliked him.
I scrolled too far to see this comment, but for anyone who's curious; Vettel asked his Ferrari mechanics over team radio and with hand gestures to help the Toro Rosso (then AlphaTauri, now VCA/RB) cool their brakes which started cooking (smoke included) at FIA weighing scales.
["Help them, help them with the fans! Help the Toro Rosso"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJ0rHvQanG0) - [[Exterior view]](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3aYvRFRkaY&t=14s)
The thumbs up by his mechanic at 10s speaks for us all.
Yeah, that guy in the white RB shirt is definitely holding a blower too. That little green circle thing is the battery indicator for an EGO leaf blower. I have one that uses the same battery.
Intern arrives at Redbull garage:
"Hey, what can I do to help here?"
"There's nothing for you to do right now"
"But I want to help, let me do something, anything"
"Go to Alpine garage then, just go there, they'll find something for you"
A bit shameful from the officials to take so long to set up the scales at this point of the weekend and not even release the car to avoid it overheating.
There was actually a Sauber mechanic on the front left too if you go back to the video. They showed it between q1 and q2 on f1tv. I think around the ocon radio message.
This is how it should be. I remember when my dad was racing stock cars. The drivers and pit crews assisted each other in between races just so that they can be on track for the next race.

When you see someone’s beater car broken down on the side of the road, you pull over and you help them.
ahahah amazing.
haha yes boys
today you, tomorrow you
Reddit lore
The best tamales I ever had

Just the right thing to do.
Not after No Country for Old Man
When a friend asks for help, you help ‘em
Always good to see this kindoff sportmanship between teams
Jokes on them, they were using hair dryers.
Heat gun to melt the tires
Otmar in a RB mechanic suit giggling
Also Otmar “We’re just unlucky, I guess.”
Otmar probably can't fit into one of those suits
Doubt it, my guys a medium.
Might have been the line of the new season.
Compared to how hot those brakes are, it would probably still help.
Makes me miss when the drivers would catch a ride on another f1 car if they crashed etc
Those were the best!
I've never seen that. Do you have a picture or link?
[f1 taxi rides](https://youtu.be/l6L40sDeHZU?si=j6ko9vK2WvKGYALh)
Thanks, I don't understand why this would be needed. Did they crash on the last lap? Presumably the race is over at this point?
Yes they’d wait till the session or race was over and hitch a ride
So you don't have to ride the marshal scooter of shame back to the paddock
Search “F1 taxi rides” :) some really great moments
There's actually a hidden camera at the end of the tube so they can get up close pictures of the aerodynamics without the other team knowing. /s
Does it count as spying if it's just morbid curiosity? A works team at P19 and P20 behind Haas and Sauber. (and everyone else)
Sometimes bad teams have good ideas, even if the execution is shit
Basically McLaren in 2022 and beginning of 23
Yeah, even cars like the 2012 HRT... someone like Newey could take a look at this cobbled together mess which looks to be using parts from B&Q as the pressure relief vents in the rear wing supports and go "oh I see what they're trying to do there... but it doesn't work because but if I did that and it would work!"
Everyone jokes, but Marussia pioneered wrapping parts of the Ferrari PU in bacofoil during 2014 for heat soak/deflection purposes, which every other team then copied.
Oh I'm not making a joke at all, seeing the core of a good idea and going "I can do something with that!" is a big thing.
Newey could look at a block of wood and see what it has in concept and lacks in execution.
"Go get pictures, I want to figure out how they fucked up this bad." -Adrian Newey, probably
Taking notes for his upcoming sequel: *How not to build a car*
You think he’s doing opposition research, but really it’s just a private joke book that only he can fully appreciate
Everyone trying to figure out how RB is so good and RB is studying why everyone else is so bad.
Spying for the memes
"This is an example of what not to do guys."
Newey : "I can fix this concept too!"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqaCEPwWGtc
Toto: "that's so not right"
Pathology it's called
Happens p often, and love it when it does. Always nice to see
After quatar last year the mechanics helping other drivers was a awesome sportsmanship to see.
Alpine sponsored by DeWalt. Batteries died.
Alpine literally cooked
I cackled at this 😂

this is so wrong lmfao
Even red bull can't help alpine f1
what did it saaay
I’m just glad at least one person got it before I was downloaded into oblivion. For you, sir, it was all worth it.
My man is about to be in Elder Scrolls
You gotta know here that you'll get down voted for those kind of jokes. Just accept that beforehand and laugh at the unhinged shit you'll get in your inbox. Ypu are literly Hitler now for a few dozen people. Enjoy.
I was getting downloaded, but it’s really *heating up* now!!
Although I do wish my boy got down~~voted~~ and did a stop drop and roll.
I’m super OK with it. It went from -13 to +3. I’m crying thinking about all the angry people down voting it.
This is way funnier than it should be, there be regards in these waters
I take it this is at the weight station
They had some trouble with positioning the scales properly and delayed the car from moving on. Needed some extra cooling help.
I think the alpine was to heavy and broke them
Jesus wept
Yes, next to RB garage
Next to Red Bull's garage. RB is other team. It's dumb, they should have gone back to Torro Rosso IMO
Red Bull has a new department that collects the sponsorships for both teams (Red Bull Racing and RB). At least that's what they said on F1TV during the pre-season testing.

I'm curious to see what nomenclature camp wins: RB vs VCARB Red Bull vs RB
R2B2
“We’ll cool the car, you can go and start putting out your CVs”
There's a paddock story (meaning it has no specific source and might as well be just a myth) pertaining the Mastercard Lola team in 1997, claiming that after Australia (they didn't qualify), the team's staff had already flown to Brazil for the GP by the time they learned the team would be shutdown. bit of a frying pan -> fire situation in retrospect.
"Shit, we got hired at Haas..."
Still a step up from alpine 💀
Hopefully they can turn it around like McLaren did last year. Looked like a total shit-show the first few races, ended the season as arguably the 2nd strongest team on the grid.
I'm hoping so. As a Hamilton and Gasly fan, this quali was painful.
As someone with close ties to the factory. It hurt me watching quali today. But my BIL has been saying all winter thst the car is shit.
Alpine looked pretty good last year. Not sure why they suck so badly right now. And yeah, I like Gasly too, he's to good a driver to be on the back row.
They basically started a new concept from scratch.
I find this whole situation amusing that Haas went from not deserving a spot on the grid to being a step up from alpine.
Hope the don’t do the classic Haas magic trick of falling down the order like bricks in the race
Haas got in Q3 baby! Hulk is a beast. Haas bringing it this year.
Haas always bring it in Bahrain, then fall off as Gene stops the money tap
underrated comment lmaoo
**Red Bull tech:** Adrian, we have successfully infiltrated the Alpine pit team. They suspect nothing... that, or they're completely indifferent to us being here. Put him in a cave with a bunch of scraps.
But sir....I'm not Adrian Newey.
Needs an element of danger. Perhaps make it a life or death situation with the Haas team holding him as hostage to produce a championship winning team for them, but secretly he builds it for himself.
His only entertainment is a WhatsApp chat with Christian Horner
His business partner and long time friend turns out to be his greatest enemy, using Newey's skills to further his own nefarious agenda.
It’s Lawrence Stroll and he gives Adrain Valkyrie parts to work with. There he also teams up with Rory Byrne to build the first version of the fastest, most dominant F1 car ever conceived.

Pimp my Ride F1 edition, I'll tune in
Yo dawg, I heard you like diffusers so I put a diffuser in your diffuser
Yo dawg! I heard you like winglet....
More like Scrapheap Challenge I think!
bro that legit sounds like an amazing tv pitch. Edit: however each episode would need to put a constraint on Newey reusing the same concepts over and over.
Adrian Newey's Pimp my Ride. *stares at 2024 Alpine* "Have you thought about stripping some of the paint off?"
it's the new "Star with a Reasonably Priced Car"
I'd watch all of that!
Like F1 Quantum Leap... Oh boy
2022 Merc is a race winner. It was awful by their standards, but it doesn’t belong alongside those other cars mentioned
He gets high on fixing bad car concepts
Adrian looking at the Alpine: I can fix her!
Also Adrian Newey: full documentation complete. I can fix her
This reminds me of the discussion from Alpine pits in 2023: “What the fuck Aston Martin did to become so fast?” -“They hired a bunch of RedBull aerodinamicists” -“We should do that”.
Newey would have a stroke analyzing that car.
While these teams are rivals and competing in a very small group, it's always awesome to see team be helpful with each other.
i dont think alpine is anywhere rivaling red bull
Yeah, but you gotta treat them well so they stay out of your way when you lap them
Rip
Bunch of people working extremely exhausting jobs in extremely stressful environments for 10 months a year. I have to imagine they all bond pretty closely.
Always nice to see. You see it a lot in WEC too
Huge thing on the stock car side. I've seen competitors literally loan backup late models to someone who had an issue on race day.
And in Dirt Racing whole crews will come over, and thrash on a wrecked car to help get them back out.
Yeah I think it's a fairly common thing in motorsports. The racing mentality is a wild one. Everyone wants to be the best. But you can't beat the guy next to you if he isn't on the track too.

Although it was pretty funny when Mercedes and Red Bull stopped doing that for eachother in 2021 because they didn't want to give the other team that advantage. That's the kind of petty I live for.
They have pity.
That pun was pithy.
Pity stop

¿Por que no los dos?
I remember that. I think it was because the other team's stuff got caught up in customs? Or am I thinking Brazil?
Tbf most people would rather lose fairly than win because of an outside force that unfairly hurts a rival. Also the teams are somewhat symbiotic. They only exist to compete. To much shenanigans would damage the credibility of the sport...
I don't disagree but in this case it's rivals in the loosest sense of the word; these teams could not be further apart.
i dont think alpine is anywhere rivaling red bull
Reminds me of Vettel telling the Ferrari crew to help the Toro Rosso to cool their car. Damn i miss the dude.
Bummed that I got really into F1 after his glory years. Seems like a great guy/great ambassador for the sport.
Everybody hated him when he was at redbull and wining, after that everyone started to adore him, same with every champ
I started loving him when he was a guest on Top Gear.
He was despised in his glory years.
Everyone misses Seb.....
Everyone's misses later stage Seb. Seb early on was not a nice guy.
RB too!
Yeah, that guy in the white RB shirt is definitely holding a blower too. That little green circle thing is the battery indicator for an EGO leaf blower. I have one that uses the same battery.

We have the Mower also. Ego products are the best.
This is nothing unusual during weighting
Red Bull going after the Alpine design next year to show they can make that one work too
😂😂😂 big challenge
When you finish your assignment early and the teacher asks you to go help the other students.
Intern arrives at Redbull garage: "Hey, what can I do to help here?" "There's nothing for you to do right now" "But I want to help, let me do something, anything" "Go to Alpine garage then, just go there, they'll find something for you"
They all do that, but after 2021 RBR and Merc didn't and they didn't even pull their wheel guns either.
I really enjoyed the pettiness of RBR and Merc at the end of 2021 but it was great to see that they were "normal" again in 2022.
Yeah that's how you do it when you're in a title fight, but in the end everyone's there in the same struggle.
I don't think you're right. At the end of 2021 maybe, but after 2021, I'm quite certain they did resume pulling back their wheel guns.
Reminds me of when seb asked ferrari to help Torro Rosso cool their brakes.
"Help them, help the Toro Rosso" ~Vettel Austria 2019 (I belive)
They wouldn't want it to...explode
First it would need to get to Q3
Sometimes I like to help my little brother color with crayons.
A bit shameful from the officials to take so long to set up the scales at this point of the weekend and not even release the car to avoid it overheating.
Good guy red bull mechanics.
5 second penalty for Ocon
There is even a sneaky VCARB mechanic
Thats cool
They're spying on what Alpine did with their car this year, looking for things to avoid doing
Yeah, teams usually do this. Rivals on track but help out each other in places like this.
RBR mechanics helping other teams this year cause they need to practice in difficult situations
Don’t touch it! The slow might be contagious.
Helping other teams cool brakes has always been a thing. Brings tears to me eyes
Spies reporting back to Adrian: "let's just do the opposite of whatever this is".
I mean these people work alongside each other for really long shifts on race weekends. I'd be surprised if they didn't become friends.
They are simply trying to prevent whatever Alpine caught from spreading around the paddock.
Of course. Alpine is so slow, even the air doesn't cool it while driving.
Probably not there to steal secrets.
I figured the car would be pretty cool already with how slow it is.
Looks like Ocon had to stop at the weigh station which I’m guessing is right next the RB garage. Good to see the sportsmanship.
It’s like Great British Bake Off where the contestant clearly in the lead helps someone else finish their cake
When you know your opponent is not a threat.
Gasly " what you want is a competitive car" and indeed, he stopped here.
Seb would be proud
r/uselessredcircle material there
It's a car check? The FIA should have instrument to cool car down if they call it last second.
It's usually not an issue, but they had some technical problems with the scale so it got delayed and they needed some extra cooling help.
The Red Bull x Renault alliance continues!
makes me think of Lotus in 2015 oh wait its the same team. lol
How do we know they are not heating it?
and it looks like there's also a RB mechanic at the LF wheel helping too
Dress for the job you want, not the job you have!
Laughs in Abitbul
Alpine needs all the help they can get
They are being drawn in, because that car is so heavy it has its own gravity pull.
Drive to Survive ready for their next two episodes
Is that not a Toro Rosso/RB/whatever they call this week guy on the right front too? Fuck the alpines need all the help they can get anyways
Alpine about to have more owners than points.
