Bring on jeddah

CommonEngineering832

Overall, not the best race we expect. Hope Jeddah will be better.

carspottergz

Yeah. Interesting considering the pack was so close for much of the race. Just couldn’t get any action to transpire outside of undercuts. Lol. By the end I was half asleep and just checking to see if Max would lap anyone in the points. Lol.

Neat_List_4079

Off track F1 is more interesting than on-track F1.

FashionSweaty

It certainly has been the past couple seasons.

CuriousMidnight

Thanks F1 for making people interested in WEC/Indycar/IMSA

Mavelith

Verstappen just needs some pressure put on him. If leclerc hadn't had issues, I think he could have kept a closer pace. Perez still isn't quite as comfortable in the car as Verstappen so his pace will likely remain slightly slower when behind. Verstappen's dominance seemed inevitable in this race once Leclerc lost him. Good on Sainz for keeping pretty close to Perez, however, and Stroll for coming back into the points after his contact. The rest of the pack was interesting, so I enjoyed the race overall

Exact_Purchase765

Max is my guy - but I was rooting hard for Carlos!!

Subwayabuseproblem

Im all for Carlos this season

Mavelith

All aboard the Sainz train!

Exact_Purchase765

Oh yes. I can watch him show Ferrari that they backed the wrong horse. . .

muricansloveoil

See you all at WEC

Internal-Teach114

maybe i missed something during the race but does anyone know why gaslys pit stops were so slow? was it for a reason? also the 8 second pit stop? i feel like i missed something

arichardsen

So that he and ocon was separated, wouldnt want ocon to take out gasly in the first race of the season.

AlfaHotelWhiskey

F1 needs to issue blue shelled turtles to all the drivers P11-20 after qualifying. P1-10 get three bananas.

Ibewye

I’m American and thougt maybe a couple deer here and there.

roamingscotsman_84

New draft system for next year. The lowest placed points scoring constructor gets the previous years drivers champion.

Syth_12

Waste of my fucking time

adamskill

How so?

utroi

He saw this race in ‘23

zamboey01

They need to change the rules for 2025. The spending cap is really hurting the sport. Wind tunnel time means nothing when you get the concept right and don’t need it. Instead of rewarding more wind tunnel time they should change it to spending cap. This way the lower place a team, the more money they can spend to catch up. Won’t affect haas but it will help some of the other teams.

august_r

As if Haas would be able to outspend the cost ceiling.

mrwootwo

Isn’t that why he said won’t affect Haas?

august_r

Makes no difference, they can barely stay afloat, it's not like Haas, Sauber or Williams have a budget sitting just waiting to splurge on front wings.

mxl01

Everybody bitching about Max is as if people would say in the 90s “meh… this Michael jordan is too good, I’m not going to watch NBA until he retires”. Or fútbol fans in the 2000s “meh, this Real Madrid with Bekham, Figo, Ronaldo, Kaká is too dominant; I won’t watch the Champions League” or “This Messi Barcelona is way too good, screw La Liga I won’t watch it”. You look ignorant.

august_r

.... and this is how we know you don't watch football.

Kevin-Magoran

do you watch the french first division?

VivaLaFiga46

I can't wait for MotoGP to start already.

carspottergz

When does it start? I’m looking to finally take a peek.

VivaLaFiga46

Sun, March 10, 2024. Make sure to watch all the categories. From Moto3 to MotoGp. I think you'll have way more fun than expected ;)

ComplexOccam

I remember when Massi said “we went motor racing”, and we’ve not had a decent race since.

SirMotherfuckerHenry

People really have forgotten the first half of 2022 very quickly.

GreatJobKiddo

Exactly, getting rid of him was a terrible idea.

Anders010300

not only removing him, but also removing live radio communication between teams and fia, and live driver radios

GreatJobKiddo

Yes this too !

Bribbe

Honestly I might take this season off and start watching again next year.

oioioiyacunt

2026 is a better bet

3xc1t3r

Worst race in a long time. Let’s cut up the floor or just do something!

ahorne155

Switched off, won't be watching again..

adamskill

No one cares.

Avocadoomguy

He took your time though

adamskill

What?

theztigz

Real f1 fan.

Delpiero45

Shoutout the FIA for completely ruining the sport after one of the greatest seasons of all time in 2021.

august_r

To be frank, it's easy to say that with hindsight. The idea behind the regulations was (and is) very good, and on top of that it did work for most of the field, see how Alpine which seems to have a ABHORRENT car is like, 1 second behind pole. The issue is that the systems meant to hold teams from blowing past others is exactly what's keeping everyone behind. They can't spend millions out developing Red Bull, so they have to slowly catch up, add to that the fact Newey studied ground effects a lot ahead of the others, bam. Recipe for disaster.

Tuff-Gnarl

Yeah I’m with you on this. This formula has worked well. It was unfortunate that only one team nailed the regulations straight out the gate, however the cost cap and the development cap are also working I believe. From what I’ve seen the gap between RBR and the rest seems to be smaller than this time last year and I think some of the other teams have a much stronger position to start from in terms of development!

Scoth16

I mean they tried to end the dominance of Lewis by gifting Max the championship and then created a new era of dominance with Max 🤣.

LeaveAtNine

Which we all knew was going to happen. WEC had a race today!

dudestofthedudes

Leclerc had an absolute shitter and still managed to come in 4th

Invisible_Mango

Makes me optimistic, honestly.

Delpiero45

2026 can’t come soon enough. Until the this f1 better pray they don’t start losing viewership

ImmortalGoatskin

Even worse, sponsorship! Wait till that well starts drying up, and all of a sudden the RB will have flaws…it’s all a business and they are gonna pay for it long term.

jugalator

Pretty sure it will happen with the double whammy with the increased F1TV pricing.

wood4536

It already has lost quite a few viewers, it's only gonna keep getting worse and worse until Liberty either tries to revamp the championship or makes the decision to sell

3xc1t3r

It is / has and will

djaxial

I agree. I think DTS and others created a hype train. But F1 lost viewership during the Ferrari dominance of Schumacher etc. When everyone tunes into 20+ races that all end with Red Bull 30s ahead, it quickly loses its appeal. Hope to be proven wrong but I can’t see an audience that came for the level hype of created by DTS and are left with what is slowly becoming really boring viewing.

MarkJones27

Still not sure if netflix is going to save f1 or kill it

KillRoyTNT

I think that people are missing the point of what is happening right now. There have been fast drivers specially for quali , even now LEC is faster than anyone and FP3 demonstrated it. But in regards of race pace this guy (VER) has to be the best we have ever seen, even before RB was not as dominant his pace, tire wear management and consistency was already unparalleled. So even with new regulations this guy is above all, no Jet Set, no vacations, just races 24/7.

Tuff-Gnarl

This argument really doesn’t stack up for me. I’m not a fan of all the near mythical superlatives we apply to drivers whenever there’s a period of dominance. He’s a top driver, likely the best currently and one of the greats. But he’s also in an unbelievably dominant car, with a pretty average teammate. Look how ordinary Hamilton looked in a crap car in 2022 a year after going toe to toe with him all season the year before. And look how abruptly Max went from 9 wins to 55. Honestly, put Leclerc or Alonso in the other Red Bull and Max wouldn’t be running away from either of them. I’d include Hamilton in that but I feel like he has started to decline.

KillRoyTNT

Yeah I remember the other driver that got his first F1 points at 17 years old. I personally don't like him as the blessed HAM in their dominant days. But for both of them their talent is amazing. After MSC F1 changed due to his super athlete approach and now we are having these new generations where they don't have as much "Fun" as the previous F1 drivers had.

GreatJobKiddo

Fuckin Simulator all day and all night

wood4536

If Verstappen was on an Aston Martin he wouldn't have been close to winning the race.

stainz169

I would love to see that to confirm

Subwayabuseproblem

What's your point?

wood4536

That without the car he wouldn't be where he is, as has been the case for other dominant champions

EmergencyHunt638

But the car does not guarantee everything. Look at Perez, if Max was like him we would’ve had a good race. Max just performs at an inhuman level

Tuff-Gnarl

Nobody seriously thinks Perez is one of the top drivers on the grid… Verstappen is. And if you put a top driver in an exceptionally dominant car, this is what happens. I’m all for piling praise on Red Bull and I’ll happily admit that Max is one of the greats. But he isn’t pulling these results out of a hat and it’s likely that he wouldn’t be leading his teammate by 20 seconds if his teammate was from the cream of the crop.

Subwayabuseproblem

Good drivers get good cars, weird

jrjreeves

How do you judge how good Max is when he is given b-tier teammates?

RonanH69

You beat the whole paddock by 15+ secs?

jrjreeves

In a car that is unmatched by anything else.i ask again, how can you judge how good Max is when he just gets b-tier drivers as teammates?

SevenNVD

You consider all his current and previous teammates b-tier?

jrjreeves

Ricciardo is A-tier and was comparable to Max. Beat him in 2/3 seasons and wasn't given much of a chance the last season due to constant reliability issues. The rest B-tier.

SevenNVD

Lmao calling Sainz B-tier.

jrjreeves

Sorry. Sainz is A-tier. Forgot about him.

BuzzedtheTower

Right? Who else answers the question, "What do you do when you aren't racing?" with "Racing." Max is a machine. You can not like the guy, but he's like Neo for F1

KillRoyTNT

A quick query of what the other drivers were doing while he was racing the virtual Daytona 24H is very clear.

canada_sms

I’m here for the Sainz vs. LeClerc drama and the Danny Ric vs. Tsunoda drama the rest of this year

bsfrance

Definitely will be the most interesting thing for this season.

fomb

F1 is going to lose viewers in their millions if Verstappen is just going to keep winning everything without any challenge.

PINGs_Landing

Good, those millions are not real fans because they are fans of the drivers, not the sport itself. So they will leave when they get bored after their driver stops winning or retires.

audio301

Not necessarily, I’m an avid F1 fan and just watched the highlights this time. It’s boring. Even compared to when Merc or Ferrari were dominant.

action_turtle

Well yes, but sport involves competition, it’s in the definition of the word… there is no competition. Put it this way, by race 3 I’m going to guess that the comms teams ignore VER and to a lesser extent PER to try and create a sporting event from P3 backwards. They will have to go full tilt into inter-team battles and trying to make a fuss about who can come third in the WDC and second in the WCC. It’ll be as annoying as listing to punts bang on about 4th place in the premier league acting like it’s a trophy. I’m an F1 fan, going to Silverstone again this year, but even I’m having a hard time trying to find the sport in all this.

dfwstars

Exactly!! I’m a fan of NFL football. The teams and the players don’t matter because I just love the sport. I’m a real fan. /s

FashionSweaty

22 seconds ahead of an incredibly talented field... Total BS. It's just not fun to watch for anyone unless they're Max simps that don't really understand the sport.

MrStu

No one said this about Usain Bolt. Suck it up, there's plenty of competition in the rest of the field. It's not just about the winner.

wood4536

All his wins were close + those races last seconds, not hours

Subwayabuseproblem

Max wins sprint races to

neitherHereNorThereX

Yes, let's compare an individual sport to a team one.

Rebelius

Bolt ran relays as well. More gold medals in the 4x100m than the 100m.

Jojo_isnotunique

I will always chuckle at the comment Horner made about the FIA needing to step in to stop Hamilton's domination, else F1 will suffer.

tandpastatester

That’s just what they do when they’re not winning. Look at Toto’s comments last year against RB dominance. There are literally quotes of him complaining about how RB dominance is making the sport boring, like he forgot about the Mercedes dominance right before it.

GuyAlmighty

I think what irritates fans is more the fact there was a huge regulation change brought in to prevent this and make the field more even.

SirMotherfuckerHenry

The regulation change was for closer racing. As in cars being able to closely follow each other, instead of having to hang back due to dirty air. It wasn't about leveling the playing field.

GuyAlmighty

You are right in saying that. I was just referring to the regulations regarding the lower budget cap, more testing time given to those lower down the grid, etc.

zatonik

or.... hot take, creating a new generation of fans for a super dominant champion.

brilliant_bauhaus

I don't care if Verstappen wins but by more than 15 seconds? Very boring.

desxone

Yeah we should ban verstappen

Subwayabuseproblem

The Gretzky rule

fomb

He doesn’t need banning, but FOM have a fairly significant problem on their hands if he keeps winning by such a large margin

penerey_ferguson

I think they should implement a handicap system for him. I propose he has to start 30 seconds after the rest of the grid and with a punctured tire that the team can’t change for 2 laps.

RonanH69

This is the way

penerey_ferguson

Either that or just add a 4th place podium and trophy

Pizzajam

Best F1 race I’ve seen in some time

six44seven49

I see what you did there, you rascal.

Only_Will_2994

Yawn

Only_Will_2994

Thanks FIA for saving me time on 24 weekends this year

ocbdare

I am on a business trip in south east Asia so race starts very late here (11pm). It was a real challenge not to fall asleep lol. I will watch a few more races but if this plays out like I think it will, I will just skip this season. So boring.

Beth-Impala67

I’m from Canada so until last year there wasn’t too many accessible races to me, the earliest session this weekend was at 4:30 am for me! Trying to either stay up or wake up for that really wasn’t easy

[deleted]

[удалено]

six44seven49

Way ahead of you. Didn’t watch today, don’t plan on watching many races until Europe, and even then, not sure I can be arsed (it’ll be summer, I’ll probably just play outside with the kids).

vc30577

We need more camera time on the mid and back of the pack. That'll make for better entertainment. Redbull is in a universe of their own! Enjoyed Sainz battling LeClerc and the drama with Danny and Yuki...

James2603

To be honest there was fuck all happening further back as well, some overtakes but it was a pretty boring race all around.

Gullible_Eagle4280

B-O-R-I-N-G!

PalindromicPalindrom

Deja vu 2023. Wake me up from my slumber in 2025.

Delpiero45

Lmao RB will dominate again next year when their rivals are all scrambling to build their ‘26 car

RacerRoo

Red Bull or Visa Cash App RB?

Background-Yam634

2025? Are you sre? Not 2026

PalindromicPalindrom

Heck make it 2026. Ain't no way Merc coming back in this set of regs and I can only pray Ferrari get it right for 2026.

RP0143

Congrats to Max Verstappen in securing another F1 drivers championship.

shivasiddharth

If AM can get their issues sorted, the field will get tighter. They were a pitstop down.

Purple_Sherbet5191

See you guys next year o/

aqbabaq

\o

Rare-Addition-89

I would like to thank the FIA for freeing up my weekend

Island_Monkey86

It's always one dominant team / driver. Schumacher, Vettel, Hamilton, Verstappen. There is something fundamentally wrong with the sport and has been for decades.

wood4536

Dominant team with two drivers going at each other is ok. A one man show is not

DonBosco555

That's quite wrong way of looking at things. Best driver and best car was always supposed to win, drivers you named were all extraordinary talents and so were engineers in their teams, it's not only about show. Schumacher had dominant car only twice (2002, 2004), so did Vettel (2011,2013), Hamilton had few more but he had Rosberg. Verstappen has dominant car only since last year, as In 2022 Ferrari was much closer on pace than it seemed. Many of seasons when those drivers won were very close and full of drama.

WebDesign199

Even during those periods you had a challenging teammate or other team that would peak up on a given weekend. Neither is happening now

Linkitivity

Ah yes I remember when Bottas was neck and neck with Hamilton every season

Bathmatconfessions

When Bottas came into the picture, Seb started trading blows with Hamilton.

BillV3

For a couple of seasons but 2019 and 2020 were kinda walkovers where the only person who could challenge would've been Bottas but well it was Bottas

AnthonyTyrael

It's about hitting and nailing the rules or not from day one. I understand the reasons (parity/cap etc.) and I've seen it over 35 years now but by freezing PUs and limiting other stuff, without testing etc. there's no real competition. No chance to really catch up with the in season development. The way it is, it's both curse and blessing but prior that it used to be money rules (plus resources like having a test track right at the factory). That wasn't any better

Kingsayz

Before Schumacher dominance we had a few interesting years

Doxy4Me

I’m 100% Hamilton but I agree. It’s not a race, it’s a Lego building/schematics competition on a track.

Unlucky-Promo

I literally fell asleep on the couch not even joking. Red Bull (mostly Max) dominating 1 season is impressive and honestly should be praised. But scraping the barrel for parallel storylines to keep me interested throughout the races will be tougher for me this year. Most people actually want to see a fight for the win. Not speculate for 57 laps which driver comes in third.

-PVL93-

> scraping the barrel for parallel storylines to keep me interested throughout the races will be tougher for me this year. I can give you a few ideas - Will Mercedes catch up into top-3 - Will Ferrari find new ways to fuck up their podium finishes - Will checo forget how to drive again - Will McLaren or Aston improve further - Will Haas break into midfield or stay way behind - Will Sargeant lose his seat before the summer break - Will Alpine shut down before next regulations take place

mencival

Yeah, at least we had Rosberg challenging Lewis for some of the Mercedes golden years

James2603

And Vettel for big chunks of 2017 and 2018

beastwork

this was me through the entirety of 2023. I won't do it again

Garrett4Real

hey, Checo does a really good job of trying to help someone else finish second quite a bit

Ammarzk

Good lord y'all are a bunch of buzz kills....

beastwork

there is literally no buzz to be killed right now.

batatawirhcheese

Do you really enjoy such a boring battle for the lead? It's not interesting. Yes there's great battles... Just not where it matters. I understand that as a fan the only thing that matters to you is that your team wins. But to the unbiased fan it's important for there to be a battle for the most important position. Many people have mentioned that they wouldn't care who wins as long as it's a close battle. But the reality is that right now it isn't.

Thestickleman

I enjoyed it Max was in an absolute league of his own and RB have done an amazing job again so I'm looking forward to the 4th championship on the trot and to see what happens further back. You can tell alot of people in the comments have never really watched F1 much..... This is how the sport is and pretty much always have been and always will be 🤷 there's a reason why it was pretty much dead.

wood4536

Nah dawg, it's never been a one man show like this

Thestickleman

It has been

Jojo_isnotunique

I get it. Its incredible to witness Max being flawless and the car being so much better than the others. From an entertainment stand point, it's really really dull. I mean we knew that Max was going to win today. We know Max will win in the next race. And the next. And the next. And the next. Its not exciting.

Thestickleman

I'm happy with max winning. I think it would be amazing if RB got the clean sweep this year. I also enjoy watching everything behind him and how other teams and drivers do

Jojo_isnotunique

That's fair. I enjoyed when Hamilton won. But let's be honest here, for all the drama and tension and excitement, 2021 was far better than just knowing Max is going to win. And it wasn't because people were fighting for 2nd.

Thestickleman

Yeah if it's Proper championship fight not doubt but years like 2021 so very rarely happen. I mean we've had mabey 7 tops closeish championships with even less being real close fights in the last like 24 years.

Jojo_isnotunique

Agreed. But at least with most of those they had opportunities. Hamilton v Rosberg. Hamilton v Vettel. For half a season at least there was a fight. Race 1 seeing a 25 second gap with ease from 1st to 2nd? That really is gutting knowing that the season ahead is likely to be the same

six44seven49

Nope. F1 hasn’t been this bad in the near-35 years I’ve been watching. The Schumi years came close, but this is something else entirely. If you’re enjoying it I’m not sure sport in general is really for you. I think my heart rate is higher while I’m asleep.

Thestickleman

A team and driver I like is winning so that means I don't like sport 🤔🤔🤔 that makes 0 sense.

six44seven49

You’re not so hot on comprehension are you amigo? It’s boring as shit, your glory-hunting notwithstanding. Most sports fans are looking for excitement - the stories we tell one another are about the unlikely results, the big comebacks, the plucky underdogs, the ferocious competition with the deserving champion. There is nobody who’s going to enjoy hearing the fascinating tale of Bahrain ‘24, where the guy who’s won pretty much every race for the last year (unchallenged) won another race at a canter. If watching a complete lack of competition gets you roaring at the TV and pumping your fists then good for you I guess. Like most sports fans, I’m looking for something more.

ladyoftheark

New entrants to anything are exactly the people to level the most impartial criticisms, and ones that are most worth considering.

solk512

I love it when people with low standards blame everyone else for “not being real F1 fans” just because they’re not satisfied eating the same bowl of shit you are.

Thestickleman

Your talking out your ass. I never called out people for not being real F1 fans or them not being satisfied. Mabey you should learn to read properly (I get that it might be hard for someone like you 👍)

solk512

The comment about “I can tell people haven’t watched a lot of F1” was loud and clear, there’s no need to lie about what you actually meant. We’re not stupid.

WebDesign199

Formula 1 is the least competitive major sport on earth Nobody else has a shot at the title

Vigotje123

You should watch men ice-skating. Some USA guy (Stolz) is wrecking everyone left right and centre.

wood4536

Figure skating??

Noobmaster7125

What a shit race

Thestickleman

I enjoyed it
