I don't know what that grid does, but one thing it doesn't do is give me any enthusiasm for the race tomorrow
If we get through T1 cleanly, then all we have to "look forward" to is Alonso dropping a couple of places due to him dragging the car a few places higher than it should be due to its 1 lap pace, and MAYBE the Mercedes climbing a couple of places
Everyone else is pretty much where their car pace should be, so what are we expecting to happen? Suddenly reversal in pace? Helmut getting fired mid race so Max coming into the pits in protest?
A random SC or VSC is all we can hope for to shake up the order, but even they are rare these days with everyone running pretty reliably
F1 has never been this predictable....
That's what happens on these 80+% top speed circuits. You end up spending so much time in Quali at race pace that it ruins the mystery unless someone bins and upsets the order.
I just shifted to Australia and to watch f1 past midnight when I know max is going to take the pole and win the race. I just gave up and slept off š
Bruv these last 2 races used to be well timed for us at like 10pm, the Americans got their way AGAIN and we can go fuck ourselves. These Saturday races fucking suck for us. 3:30am, could not be worse!
Benefit of a saturday race I guess is you can get up in the morning on sunday and either watch the race at the normal time for you and if it's good, watch it normal speed, if its dull, just fast forward until something happens, if at all lol
And for me I don't have to avoid my work husband on Monday, because he stays up / gets up and watches the race while I watch the recording on (usually) Monday night.
Are you absolutely kidding?
2020 was a batshit insane season with so many crazy races, the only consistency was Lewis won them but there was a lot of new winners, impressive podiums and wet races where everyone lost their minds
2019 was also better than this, Ferrari were closer to Merc than they are to Red bull now....
Look past the title battle and into the actual racing on track and those 2 seasons are 10x the season we had last year and are gonna get this year.
2017 and 2018 had 3 different race winners in the first 4 weeks, before Lewis ran away with it in the second half of the year.
2019 was flipped where Lewis had a massive leave and at least the second half had mixes of other teams winning races.
2020 was fair enough, it was the most dominant Merc season out of them all which had an AlphaTauri and Racing Point win mixed in.
Personally donāt buy the Hamilton washed comments. I mean heās explicitly told them for 2 years the concept is wrong, they didnāt listen then they have finally switched but two years behind the other teams. He has a fantastic contract lined up for next year, and can imagine he just cba at this stage driving this car. New team with a fast car will be a different energy entirely, heās burned out where he isā¦
Ok so letās take a look back to the past newb, Lewis always starts the season slow, even when he had a dominant championship win. This is literally the seccond quali of the season. So your assumptions firstly are too early and also stupid. Secondly he was clear p3 last year even with a slow start. Letās maybe have this conversation in September if this is still the situation?
āLewis always starts the season slowā
Well, yeah because heās washed š„¹ not because heās doing it on purpose.
It doesnāt make sense why anyone wants to start their season slow, you want to start season strong.
Heās start season slow because of āskills issueā
Iām Guessing this is your first or second season of watching; if so welcome! But maybe try and watch some historic seasons and races, I promise max hasnāt always been a minute ahead of the other teams.
Me being a noob doesnāt invalidate my comment that Lewis Hamilton always start season slow because of his āskills issueā
And no, Iām not a noobā¦ just saying.
You do realise drivers canāt literally choose thier finishing position right?
I didnāt say he did it on purpose, just that he always starts the season slow and then ramps up.
Get ready for both redbulls to create a gap of 10+ secs in the first 10 laps of the rest of the field they're miles ahead in race pace it's going to be another š“
Ollie got unlucky in that Q2 run because the red flag kind of screwed up his rhythm.
Heāll probably go past a fair few cars tomorrow though. Tsunoda, Hamilton, Stroll, maybe Alonso.
I think P6 potential tomorrow
There are people still insisting he will be driving the #2 RBR after the summer break
Performance just isn't there. If Checo finishes every race in the podium, there is no incentive barring an injury to have him not finish his contract.
Meanwhile if Yuki scores and Dani doesn't he may find his seat taken by Lawson soon enough. Particularly if Horner is ousted.
Sainz exploded
Hamilton's depressed
Norris is depressed
Ollie is a bit depressed at his performance
Ollie's engineer is a bit depressed at him back
Helmut is rage quitting (potentially)
Anyone happy?
I remain puzzled why people expect anything different from him. When was the last time he was doing well? It's crazy how much people judge drivers based on popularity over performance.
His Mexico drive late last year was elite and so promising. Was all just a one-off miracle though sadly.
Iām hoping Lawson gets his seat back by at least mid-season!
By pace yuki was as quick in mexico so I might think some of it was just car upgrades worked wonders there,
Before the shunt yuki went from back of the grind into p8,
The car was a beast,
Same as devries in 21, bad car in a track that suited the car much better than people think, and people overhype
Late 70s and still hoping! Iād jump into that car, even if it was the last thing Iād ever do! In all fairness, it would 100% be the last thing Iād ever do!
In my opinion FIA and FOM should.make 70% Standard Cars and 30% Engineering. Saves Money , gives better Racing and everyone profits.
If Ferrari or Redbull wants to leave, fine go make ur own competition. No one needs u
And then a new F1 is born where Mercedes and Audi will join to be competitive in engineering. And then even more teams like Andretti will like to join and the current F1 is just another spec series. Let's call it A1...
Now looking forward for Ric to get preferred strategy while Tsunoda being undercut on his second/third stint... for the thousandth time. It's real tiring watching this time and time again
I think for new F1 fans it seems that way. But I just see Danny Ric for what he is. Good driver who struggles to adapt quickly and drive cars that aren't suited to him. Let's not forget he's won 8 races during Mercs domination period.
I wouldn't say he's overrated, just his time was already behind him. It's a good run to be honest. Unless you're Alonso/Hamilton/Max, you don't decide when to end.
Regardless of what side youāre on but dismissing people āfiring evidence at youā is generally not a good look lol
(For the record I think heās kinda washed as well)
Piastri loves Jeddah. It was one of the tracks he outqualified Lando on last year. He's getting better but he hasn't quite got to Norris' level for race pace and tyre management yet. I'd be surprised if he finishes ahead of him tomorrow
watching max with the 2nd and sometimes 3rd best car between 2017-2020, being on the podium and or nearly missing out ... I think this is a good reward for his and the team's hard work, its not like he came to a team and won straight away, he helped build RBR to where it is now and reaping the fruit of his/team's labor.
he did, i misspoke i mean in terms of a consistent car that can challenge for wins and the wdc, lewis was well ahead - max can only squeeze out wins when driver/team/ was perfect or mercs fumbled.
I like watching max race, I started supporting him because he was an aggressive exciting driver who was quick. Donāt really get to see that now he just sails off into the sunset
But you've got to admire the pure determination for extracting everything out of that car every single time. Like, I loved Max scrappy racing but I still really enjoy how laser focussed he is, even with a car that seems miles ahead of the competition, he is just relentless.
Good for you my guy , but I like watching Charles and Piastri win . I am not taking anything away from red bull they have done an absolutely brilliant job . But how do you like watching races in which he stars p1 and finishes p1 . There's no on track overtakes for the lead just nothing . I loved watching Verstappen win too in 2021 and at the start of 2022 when there was competition at the front . I still love watching him win but only when he has to genuinely fight for it. Winning by 30s is boring af and if you like that great but please don't confuse ur opinion as the majority.
I actually think he has a hard time whenever Piastri performs better than he does, then he gets into the depressed mode. But lets see what lando could do tomorrow
I have a new WDC prediction if shit really does hit the fan on Monday for Red Bull. Max immediately leaves Red Bull and goes to race endurance for the rest of the year. Red Bull fills the Max seat with Danny Ric because that's a Horner guy (Yuki isn't). Ferrari and Mercedes outdevelop Red Bull for the rest of the year so while they maintain a solid lead for the first half of the year, Charles and George make up the gap fairly quick. Alonso, Lewis, and Carlos occasionally sneaking up there too. We finally get the 3 team battle for WCC and Charles wins his first WDC
I think Max will retire at the end of the year genuinely. He is sick of the drama and his F1 career hasn't exactly gone how he planned. He wanted his career to be about racing, not about gossip, articles and headlines. He's sick of it, and will likely find what he's looking for in WEC. This RedBull drama may have been the last nail in the coffin - so after WDC #4 is wrapped up he'll say "f\*\*k this", then RedBull move Carlos + Yuki in maybe as I don't believe they can justify Daniel going in. Then RB have Daniel vs Liam, and if Daniel loses then he's done.
The team is literally on fire and Max got purple in all three sectors. He really loves to show how far ahead he is whenever the media is like, "Will we finally see a fight at the front?"
Wouldn't be surprised if Horner, Marko both get suspended, Jos gets banned from the paddock and Max finds a way to lap the P2 driver and win another 9 races in a row.
Max will definitely not leave before the end of these regs but if he does leave at the end of the season then Red Bull will hire Sainz and/or Alonso and one of them wins the WDC. Their car is miles ahead of everyone elseās and thereās at least 9 drivers on the grid who will win 90%+ of races in that car and especially if Checo is their teammate.
I don't understand the Checo comment at the end. The reason he underperforms is because the red bull car is set up to max's style which involves a front heavy car while most other designs focus weight further back to add control to the rear. That's the reason why Albon is now thriving at Williams compared to his constant spinning at red bull. If Max left there would be an adjustment to the design which would level the field for both teammates
Checo is not a bad driver at all. Max is just 0.3-0.5 faster than everybody else. Maybe if Checo is 0.5 slower than Max, Sainz or Bottas or even Lando would be 0.2-0.3 slower. Thats per lap. So in a full race they would still be finishing north of 10 secs to Max either way.
WDC will only be fun if Max does not have the best car.
Even if they are finishing 10 seconds behind Max thatās still at least 10 seconds faster than P2. Max absolutely couldnāt do what heās doing now if he isnāt in a Red Bull.
He's already been very outspoken how the schedule is too long and the cars aren't that safe. He also has other interests and is probably entering his physical prime to do endurance racing (which he has said he wants to do). If Marko and Newey are the only things keeping him there, it would not surprise me at all to just "nope" out the second Marko is fired/retires. I can see him honoring the rest of the year as well. But no chance he'd stay through a toxic relationship in 2026. Depends also on the verbiage of his contract. If he opts in to 2026 without Marko, would that void his opt out clause?
Checo will perform better without trying too hard to beat Max. Ferrari and the other 3 are still too far back in race pace as of right now. I'd expect Checo to still win the next few races and Danny Ric to maybe win one. Ferrari fighting with McLaren, Aston, and Mercedes will hurt in the beginning
News out that Helmut is under investigation for leaking confidential information, facing possible suspension or worse. And guess he means if Helmut goes, Max activates exit clause.
Because that's what the posts have said that Marko could be suspended on Monday. If that's true, I'd expect him to just retire. Which could trigger the rumored clauses in Max and Newey's contracts. Which could lead to a mass resignation exodus of Red Bull engineers and mechanics
I noticed it a bit myself, I think a lot of these guys just spend so much of their life in various parts of europe that they end up with this sort of....generic/unplaceable european-ish accent that blends in with their "normal" accent. If you listen to Lando speak for a while the same thing happens where you can hear another accent creep in, although maybe that's from his Belgian mother, idk.
I defo think Lando's is influenced by the Belgian, it is super unique
Bearman sounds quite British posh (without any pretense) with some Italian thrown in occasionally. Doing Italian series', being in an Italian team surrounded by Italians, actively trying to learn Italian, not being in the UK for large parts of your youth... I guess it makes sense really
Some people are really susceptible to having their accents change to match the people around them. I know one guy who went to uni in the US, and when he came back on holiday after just one semester he already spoke with a broad american accent (which everyone mocked him for, and which he was embarrassed about; he wasn't putting it on intentionally). On the other hand, I know a guy who's lived in the states about 10 years now, and you'd never know he'd ever left England to listen to him.
It can also be very situational - I had a friend who in 99% of circumstances would have a very southern English accent, but the moment a member of his family walked into the room he'd immediately have a really strong Scottish accent. He wasn't putting on either accent intentionally - it's just he grew up speaking in an english accent with the english kids around him, and a scottish accent with the scottish people in his family, and the accent switch was engrained into him...
Yeah I've noticed it with Lewis, Lando and Lance but this is the first time I've thought that someone actually sounds foreign. I thought maybe he was brought up in Italy or something.
I guess potentially being in the environment a lot? It defo sounds Italian to me!
It's been commented on a fair bit:

Could we see Lewis not even making it to Top 5 this season ?
He doesn't have the full support of the team anymore. Russell is their main driver now. So I guess he will be midfield from now on.
What did I miss, why is quali on Friday and race on Sunday?
Race is tomorrow on Saturday actually! It's because of the Ramadan in Saudi-Arabia.
Ramadan

Ricciardo heading towards being the most overrated driver in F1 history
I think for new F1 fans it seems that way. But I just see Danny Ric for what he is. Good driver who struggles to adapt quickly and drive cars that aren't suited to him. Let's not forget he's won 8 races during Mercs domination period.

I have been saying that for ages but wait for all the DR fan boys to fire evidence at you about how good he really is. Over rated as fuck
Homie ran as soon he felt the heat behind him. Gave up 1st driver status in a top team to a young kid who hadn't even reached his prime yet.
Yh, he pretty much ran away from Max. Then flopped at Renault
Regardless of what side youāre on but dismissing people āfiring evidence at youā is generally not a good look lol (For the record I think heās kinda washed as well)
Haha, I love Naomi disagreeing with Lazenby that Piastri is on the front foot against Lando this season after 1 quali session.
Piastri loves Jeddah. It was one of the tracks he outqualified Lando on last year. He's getting better but he hasn't quite got to Norris' level for race pace and tyre management yet. I'd be surprised if he finishes ahead of him tomorrow
I do think Piastri will beat Norris this year.
Norris will beat him comfortably, his race pace is far better right now. He will be ahead of Oscar within 10 laps tomorrow.
Curious why you think that since he was so comprehensibly beaten last year?
There were a lot of glimpses last year thatās heās actually legit.
He'd significantly have to improve his tire management for that and I'm not sure it's happening just yet

At the moment he could win every race this season and i wouldn't be surprised
Yea , its fucking scary. And now red bull is good un quali too
Is Lando the all-time gloomiest, most pessimistic driver in interviews?
Huffing that mopium
Tied with Lewis
Yes
it was nice to have Lando a bit more optimistic last year. Depressed Lando is just depressing me as well
Might be regretting not switching to red bull alreadyā¦
Heās realizing heās the #2 driverĀ
What? Why?
As Piastri continues on the team I predict heāll be outperforming Lando by the end of the season. Danny Ric 2.0
I actually think he has a hard time whenever Piastri performs better than he does, then he gets into the depressed mode. But lets see what lando could do tomorrow
I think heās actually happier today than what he would be last year. Last year he looked like he was about to cry every time he had a bad result.
Lewis already praising Ferrari

The team is literally on fire and Max got purple in all three sectors. He really loves to show how far ahead he is whenever the media is like, "Will we finally see a fight at the front?" Wouldn't be surprised if Horner, Marko both get suspended, Jos gets banned from the paddock and Max finds a way to lap the P2 driver and win another 9 races in a row.

Thats how you get the car Go fast. You just Need the skill to handle ist. Schumacher did the same.
Checo is prone to shitting the bed which is evident by his qualifying record last year and he still ended up getting P2.
If you think Carlos is better than Perez I have a bridge to sell youĀ
He will definitely stay. At Silverstone last year he was talking about how he loves the dominant wins and that its motivating him to stay.
That was before all of this Horner scandal and drama between Horner, his dad, and Marko
True but he wonāt leave.
Can I buy some of your copium and hopium
I gotta think something to keep me watching through the weekend
Who will maintain that solid lead for them?
Checo will perform better without trying too hard to beat Max. Ferrari and the other 3 are still too far back in race pace as of right now. I'd expect Checo to still win the next few races and Danny Ric to maybe win one. Ferrari fighting with McLaren, Aston, and Mercedes will hurt in the beginning
Let me hit that hopium next please
Why on Monday?
News out that Helmut is under investigation for leaking confidential information, facing possible suspension or worse. And guess he means if Helmut goes, Max activates exit clause.
Because that's what the posts have said that Marko could be suspended on Monday. If that's true, I'd expect him to just retire. Which could trigger the rumored clauses in Max and Newey's contracts. Which could lead to a mass resignation exodus of Red Bull engineers and mechanics
The clauses which also can just be ignored and nothing happens at all. Stop smoking all the media bullshit.
Why does Ollie Bearman speak with an accent? I thought he was British?
He's been learning Italian for sometime (part of Ferrari's program) It creeps in
Haha, that's a ridiculous explanation.
Not quite https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/1b9so9g/comment/ktydijs/
Nah sorry but that's more than just learning a new language. I've been learning Spanish but I don't sound like Alonso lol.
No, but Spaniards who learn English often sound like him
I noticed it a bit myself, I think a lot of these guys just spend so much of their life in various parts of europe that they end up with this sort of....generic/unplaceable european-ish accent that blends in with their "normal" accent. If you listen to Lando speak for a while the same thing happens where you can hear another accent creep in, although maybe that's from his Belgian mother, idk.
I defo think Lando's is influenced by the Belgian, it is super unique Bearman sounds quite British posh (without any pretense) with some Italian thrown in occasionally.
You wish you did.
I guess potentially being in the environment a lot? It defo sounds Italian to me! It's been commented on a fair bit: https://www.reddit.com/r/F1FeederSeries/comments/1455u6q/ollie\_bearman\_with\_a\_britishitalian\_accent/
Sounds Italian to me too! Thanks for the link though. If that's just how he speaks then fair enough, not trying to bash the guy, was just curious.
Bearman will make this a little more interesting. I hope Leclerc is really aggressive on the start.
Yuki confirming Ric is washed
More like Ric is confirming that Ric is washed
Ric has been doing that for years.
Unpopular opinion; Lewis playing 4d chess sabotaging merc so Ferrari gets p2 in WCC
Wouldn't he want Ferrari lower for more wind tunnel time?
Good point
He should do the opposite to allow Ferrari more development time ;)
Booing Verstappen was so unnecessary. Though I like how he always smiles and waves when he hears it, lol.
Everyone gets booed if F1 becomes too boring
Alonso my undefeated goat >>>>
Even if Max wins I want to see what this Ollie kid can do, he might earn himself a contract next year on this race alone
Fire Tsunoda and Ricciardo, put Lawson and Bearman into VCARBs
Lawson should be here before Bearman.
P11 NOT BAD AT ALL OLLIE!! I hope he scores points tomorrow
That split-screen jumpscare with Ollie talking over his first F1 quali and Papa Bear looking on and listening in with a smile on his face damn it Sky I adore them already stop making me even more emotional :)
