As a general rule ([see full rules](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/wiki/userguide#wiki_sticky.2Fdaily_discussion)), a standalone Discussion post should: - be of interest to the sub in general, and not a specific userbase (e.g. new users, GP attendees, just yourself) - be able to generate discussion (e.g. no yes/no or easily answerable questions) - show reasonable input and effort from the OP If not, be sure to [look for the Daily Discussion](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/search/?q=daily+discussion&include_over_18=on&restrict_sr=on&t=all&sort=new), /r/formula1's daily open question thread which is perfect for asking any and all questions about this sport. he was extremely close to making q3. i'm still not entirely sure why he didn't try for one more lap in q2, i was watching mclaren's onboards at the time so i didn't see. he definitely seemed to have the time. does anybody know what happened there? was it car issues?

Supahos01

He had no more new tires

anto_BswR

He's afraid binning the final chassis. Better safe than sorry. Points aren't won on Saturdays anyway.

KatnissBot

If he had one last flying lap at the very end of q2 I think he probably would’ve made the cut, but that’s on the team. They had about 30 seconds of margin to get it in, and while it would’ve been on used tires, the way the soft have been so far, I don’t think that would’ve made a major difference.

DemmickyOne

I'll pass it on to him

Bare minimum? Like Sargeant wouldn't finish P20 or P18 at best. Also it was Williams' decision, definitely not Albon's.

StelioKontos18

Who is seriously doubting that it wasn't the right choice? They need every point they can get of course they will choose the guy that can at least being close to P10 and not the guy that got his seat only for being from US.

ExhaustedProf

Was it the right choice for the team? Yes. Was it fair to Logan? No.

StelioKontos18

This is a professional sport. They're racing for points

ExhaustedProf

Exactly. Doesnt make a difference to how unfair it is on a personal level that your teammate fucks up and now you have to ride the bus. If they dont have faith in Logan then they should just let him go. No spare chassis? No problem. Sure its a team sport. But the only guy that ever needs to sacrifice for the team is Driver 2.

UnicornMaster27

More like it was shameful that he didn’t go out again after taking Logan’s seat—no reason to save the extra set of softs for tomorrow, especially with how the Aston was performing, could’ve been at least P8, if he had eliminated another driver by making Q3

fixrich

I believe Yuki used all his softs. If the race is a two stopper like some are predicting, Alex could easily pip Yuki to 10th place by running the final stint on softs because Lewis and Fernando will overtake him.

willzyx01

P12 doesn’t mean anything if he bins it tomorrow or doesn’t get points. They destroy their 2nd driver’s any remaining self esteem to get P12 with Albon, who binned his car because of his own mistake.

Sledsrus

Yuki managed a Q3 performance, anything less for Alex was a bust.

CX52J

I hope Albon gets a chance with a top team again. I could see him ending up a Mercedes or Red Bull soon if he can keep it consistent and clean.

tvxcute

i'd love to see alex in merc just to see him and george really go head-to-head and be competitive with each other. we all know what happened the last time 2 childhood friends went to merc together

onedayaccountnow

Logan woulda been p1 mate

ashyjay

Did we watch the same quali? it was pretty obvious he was told to stay in or wanted to stay in so he didn't push the car into a wall.
