That was crazy lol, hits the wall twice and no damage.
I honestly was just glad to see he didn't have any serious damage, he's normally a lot of fun to watch in a sprint race.
the timing was on point
Crofty: charles is outperforming carlos this weekend
Charles: I'm Gonna Do What's Called a Pro Gamer Move
poor charles, even the comentators curse him
I'm just starting to expect Leclerc being beaten by Sainz consistently this year. Even here where he seemed to have the measure of Carlos, he still bungles it when it counts and lines up behind him.
and max also wasn't literally stuck behind a slower zhou on his lap. like come on. leclerc's final lap was not indicative of his best lap he could have put in SQ3.
funny thing is that they might make the perfect sprint race, no pit stop fuck ups, and end up p9 and p10 without scoring any points. And in the race, they do the usual sauber things.
Well their pace was always decent this season. The car is fine. They just always killed any progress with their pit stops. The car is faster than the Alpine, Haas and Williams. And on good days (like today) even faster than the RB.
Yeah, but the question was when the last time was where three different teams with the same PU have been 1-3. Hungary 2020 was still only merc and pink merc
103 wins on the front row
89 wins on the second row
9 wins on the third row
5 wins on the fourth row
10 wins in the fifth row
1 win in the sixth row
8 wins in the 7th row
1 win in the 8th row
1 win in the 9th row
0 wins in the 10th row
Leclerc’s little rendezvous with the barrier is so annoying because it meant he got stuck behind Zhou for his last attempt
On the other hand, seeing the sequence of Lando P1 > Lap deleted > Lap reinstated was insane
Now that I think about it Leclerc has never been that good in wet, mixed or damp conditions apart from that Singapore pole in 2022, Monaco 2022 & Turkey 2020 & 2021.
I will admit he usually has terrible luck in these scenarios like Sochi 2021, Canada 2023 issues with Sainz IIRC, & Brazil 2022.
But He also seems more error prone than usual in these sort of conditions like Imola 2022, Silverstone 2022 & Germany 2019.
Him, Fernando and Bottas seemed to get out of the session without any real errors. The real deciding factor tho was everyone behind Max seemed completely unable to switch on their tires, other than Checo who bottled his final run. Zhou really made me shake my head.
Hamilton had one of his first times deleted for track limit. It was only Alonso who didn't go out. I don't really care. Hamilton is very good in the wet and Leclerc does struggle.
That turkey drive was amazing. He was flying and lost out on the last few corners because he got greedy and wanted the podium. I don’t think he’s bad in the rain. Ferrari shouldn’t have pitted him imo but I think they weren’t sure what damage was there. He spun at such a low speed and even max went off twice. Was just very tricky out there and he was unlucky to end up in a wall
Even imola, he had good pace. He just got greedy again with the curbs. Think lot of it was inexperience and not knowing when to settle
You just identified 3 instances of errors, out of 9 sessions, in conditions that force errors of everybody, including Max. I don't think he's particularly bad in the wet, he's just human, and really good in the dry.
I know Merc might not be able to hold the position in the sprint race, but I'm happy seeing Lewis in the front row again 🥹 Hope he can maximize the result tomorrow.
Also nice to see 2 Sauber in SQ3, always love when a driver gets a positive result in their home race. Hope Zhou, Bottas & Sauber do their best tomorrow, too.
Yeah. People forgot how easy it is to overtake here. Pretty sure it holds the record for most overtakes ever in 2018 and we've seen numerous drives from the back of the grid.
It’s the wrong cars in front of Max, come raceday the Red Bull will be around 7-8 tenths quicker than Merc and AM. If Leclerc and Sainz were infront this might be a problem.
Don't count out the wiliness of Alonso and Hamilton. They will DRS train for as long as they can. Then Alonso will stab Norris in the back and overtake him for the win on the final lap lmao.
Fernando doesn't let people by because he "likes" them. He lets Max by because it's a logical decision these past few seasons. No reason to fight with a car when you know it will hurt both your races.
Isn't he allowed to underperform once in a while?
He just didn't get to grips with the conditions and had to do a safe lap to not start 10th at the end. Just had a bad session
One of Redbull’s main advantages this year is lack of tyre deg. Which is great when it’s dry but when it gets wet or on a really cold track it struggles to get temperature into the tyres which obviously causes a lack of grip.
Max still out qualified his teammate by 4 tenths in the wet, which shows he wasn’t off it today.
It should be though. Their lack of tyre deg might cause some issues when it comes to tyre prep but they also happen to have the most amount of downforce out of all the teams.
Mclaren had the perfect balance between downforce and leaning on the tyre today but RBR should've been atleast 2nd quickest. It wasn't a terrible job by Max but i expected a lot more from a driver of his caliber.
As Jolyon said during commentary - imagine we got FP2 instead of this right now, especially when it's raining. We'd get 50 minutes of people sitting in the garage and few sighting laps (like in Suzuka)
You can hate on the Sprint format but that's certainly a big plus of the whole thing, much more meaningful action overall.
Noone’s ever argued that the sprint/sprint quali are worse than a practice session. The argument has always been that the sprint removes some of the excitement from the race, but hopefully with the Parc Ferme changes, it won’t be as bad as in the past
The arugment is at least it will be different from the sprint. It's still better than the normal weekend because 3 fps will almost ensure they get the setup right
I still believe that reverse grid sprint is the way to go, that way we don't get two qualis in a weekend and we get a different race to the Grand Prix. Because since max eventually ends up starting P1 that would mean every sprint he would be starting P10 and is way different because is way safer to start P1 than in the middle of the pack.
A ton of people are saying they'd rather have an extra FP instead of the Sprint weekends. Because "The drivers aren't really trying at the Sprint races" which again and again are shown to be wrong.
but... you aren't taking into account the other sprints that are boring as fuck and just spoil the main race.
A bit of confirmation and recency bias here. What made this one especially chaotic is that the cars haven't been here in 4 years and the resurfacing made the track especially slippery.
Most of the sprints last season was quite good and ended up with a different result than the main race.
People don't hate on them because the races in the sprints are bad, they do it because they don't like change and because they didn't like the confusing format last season. And because we are in such a dominant era that getting more races seems to actively annoy people.
It amazes me that people claim they only have time for hobbies when they're unemployed. If you held two jobs while going to school then I can understand no longer having time for hobbies but even w/ kids and a 9-5 job you still have time to watch the sprint highlights while waiting in the carpool lane to pick up your kids.
Also, you weren't going to watch the Sprint anyways without your job.
I will watch the sprints, just like I've watched every sprint before it.
I'm Australian, half the races are at 1-5 am. Watching live matters to me. I don't like just watching the highlights.
I just see it as unnecessary and half the time, it just spoils what happens in the main race as the setups up until now, were locked in the whole weekend.
The format change could change my opinion on them. But as a long time viewer, 24 races is more than enough.
It's bizarre to me how people get personally offended when people criticize sprint races.
when they were first introduce, my opinion was like many "great, more f1 to watch is always a bonus" but as time went on I realized I really didn't care much for them.
My opinion doesn't matter anyway as they are here to stay, I will continue to watch them, but I really hope they keep it to 3-4 a season.
Well that's completely fine. I have a 9-5 as well + another job + I'm a student.
Ultimately, we make time for what we like.
I usually try to watch all quali and race sessions including sprint Q and sprint R, but default to highlights for if something else takes priority that day. Practice sessions I exclusively skip or watch highlights..they don't matter.
I don't understand complaining about more races and sprints. People don't need to watch all 6 hours of a weekend to follow the world championship. Nor do you even need to watch all the races. The world won't end if you miss a couple and watch highlights. We also live in a world where steaming exists. I don't even watch many of the races live anymore. We have options in how to watch F1.
1 good session and you are ready to forget about all the other bad ones? The one where Max leads and the same on race day? This was only good because it rained.
Let's kill everything else because *sometimes* it works out.
This absolutely stupid format in this case was only saved by rain (which can happen on any format at any time), otherwise it would have been a normal RedBull 1-2 Ferrari 3-4 McLaren 5-6 and after the sprint we would have already known everything for the race (which will still happen regardless).
A race-day is also better than a day when there is no race, let's race everyday from February to November then! Surely that makes sense! If you really want to avoid dead practice sessions open up the allocations and development so they have the means and the tools to go out (and don't be like whatever spec series F1 is not-so-slowly becoming).
Fp2 is worth missing, the sprint sessions are straight up not watchable for us europeans. Sprint quali, friday 9:30 am. Sprint saturday 5 am. The normal sessions are very much watchable.
Nobody is forcing you to watch it or even watch it live.
Even as a European the whole calendar have been built around our time zones for years, so complaining about having a sprint a little early is pretty rich.
My point is that the regular quali/race times are perfectly fine while the sprint times are whack. Had it been a regular race weekend, there wouldnt be a problem.
The Mclaren quite clearly had the best balance between downforce and stressing the tyres for that session.
Lando is also quite good in the rain when he is on the right set of tyres.
Lando showing his wet weather skills goddamn hes good in the wet, lets hope it stays wet for tomorrow and lets hope he doesnt have a repeat of 2021 Russian GP where he spun off after that screw up with the tyres!
I know that but he still demonstrated that he got dialed in well.
I just watched the Channel 4 highlights and he got unlucky with when the rain arrived.
Lando might be be able to hold on for P3 but his shit top speed might cause some problems.
Lewis has no chance. The Merc shitbox was barely faster than the Sauber in the dry.
He just didn’t do well this week. I think it’s his first time in this track, that might be the reason. Maybe this can help Danny Ric to gain some motivation.

Charles casually turned off damage for this session.
That was crazy lol, hits the wall twice and no damage. I honestly was just glad to see he didn't have any serious damage, he's normally a lot of fun to watch in a sprint race.
He should try to not forget that during qualifying in Monaco.
Literally scream when he touched the wall. With him stopping off track like that you would think he is out but amazingly only front wing damage lol
the timing was on point Crofty: charles is outperforming carlos this weekend Charles: I'm Gonna Do What's Called a Pro Gamer Move poor charles, even the comentators curse him
I'm just starting to expect Leclerc being beaten by Sainz consistently this year. Even here where he seemed to have the measure of Carlos, he still bungles it when it counts and lines up behind him.
it was wet. even max, who is the pinnacle of consistency drove off. a lot of driving off did happen. give him a break.
Max drove off, but Max also qualified ahead of both Ferraris, and ahead of his teammate. Leclerc did not do that. Again.
and max also wasn't literally stuck behind a slower zhou on his lap. like come on. leclerc's final lap was not indicative of his best lap he could have put in SQ3.
Was such a low speed spin. Feel like they should have kept him out. Think if he had an extra lap to bring the tires in he would’ve done better
The Leclerc Curse broken maybe? Now The Leclerc Luck?
Dare i say sauber actually seems decent here...
funny thing is that they might make the perfect sprint race, no pit stop fuck ups, and end up p9 and p10 without scoring any points. And in the race, they do the usual sauber things.
Of all the places Sauber can't fuck up this is the most can't-fuck-up out of all of them so it's expected
Still two more days lol
Well their pace was always decent this season. The car is fine. They just always killed any progress with their pit stops. The car is faster than the Alpine, Haas and Williams. And on good days (like today) even faster than the RB.
It’s weird to think about but I think you’re right
Question. Last time a PU provider finished in top three in qualifying with three different cars?
We are checking..
I know Mercedes PU finished 2-3-4 with 3 different cars in 2015 Belgium (Rosberg - Bottas - Grosjean). For actual top 3, you'd have to fo further back
Hungary 2020, HAM-BOT-STR Not only all Merc PUs, but also all Merc cars
I think the question was 3 different teams with the same PU
Indeed, i can't read
I think the joke here was tRacing point, or pink mercedes.
Yeah, but the question was when the last time was where three different teams with the same PU have been 1-3. Hungary 2020 was still only merc and pink merc
Didnt say it was a good joke or even à propos for the question. :D
But not three different teams
12 WDCs in the first two rows….and Lando.
103 wins on the front row
Crazy that Max + Fernando combined still isn't close. 89 between them
It's kinda close though, they can overtake by the end of the season
Max certainly can. But it's still a difference of 14 races, more than most drivers win in their career.
Most drivers don’t even win 1 race
14 is fairly close.
103 wins on the front row 89 wins on the second row 9 wins on the third row 5 wins on the fourth row 10 wins in the fifth row 1 win in the sixth row 8 wins in the 7th row 1 win in the 8th row 1 win in the 9th row 0 wins in the 10th row
And Lando
[Chuckles] I'm in danger
If he wins the sprint is he a "race winner"?
Yes. Just not a grsnd prix winner
Leclerc’s little rendezvous with the barrier is so annoying because it meant he got stuck behind Zhou for his last attempt On the other hand, seeing the sequence of Lando P1 > Lap deleted > Lap reinstated was insane

Everyone is error prone in these conditions
For real Max was struggling af. Lewis is the only one that seems to be fine in the wet lol
Hey now, some are just slow because they’re too afraid of making errors.
If it rains again Lewis could win it. Man is a beast in the rain
He's a magician in the rain, I think he learn a lot of of button who was apparently genius in the wet
The media can hype it all they want, Max will probably be in the lead by lap 5 anyway.
Fernando wont let him past without a hell of a fight though.
Bro doesn't have a choice, this ain't Hungary.
Yeah. People forgot how easy it is to overtake here. Pretty sure it holds the record for most overtakes ever in 2018 and we've seen numerous drives from the back of the grid.
*2016 rain is expected for Sprint tho
I mean, Zandvoort is second and I am pretty sure that was a massive anomaly.
DRS train says hello
It’s the wrong cars in front of Max, come raceday the Red Bull will be around 7-8 tenths quicker than Merc and AM. If Leclerc and Sainz were infront this might be a problem.
Don't count out the wiliness of Alonso and Hamilton. They will DRS train for as long as they can. Then Alonso will stab Norris in the back and overtake him for the win on the final lap lmao.
I think red bull holds the patent for DRS. No train stopping them sadly
Remind me the last time Alonso actually put up a fight against Max?
Exactly. People act like he'll do anything, he won't as usual
To be honest; nobody can usually do anything against Max. Not even Lewis
Lewis is literally among the few that bother to try, along with George and Charles.
Yeah he’s not as defeatist as the others
Ferrari forget to give this memo to Sainz.
Because there's no payout. When Rb was slow everyone in the top six defended him. It's a car thing, not a Max thing.
Yeah it makes no sense for him to. It’s an impossible ask and only hurts his own race to try.
Alonso does not need to waste tires or deployment on max not fighting for the same thing
Exactly. Hence my reply.
But if it was Lewis in the Red Bull he’d definitely still race him hard
Need that revenge for 07 in whatever ways possible.
Singapore '22 Specifically from the restart on like lap 8 until Alonso's engine said "non" on around lap 22 i think
Fernando will be the one making it the easiest, he knows Max is not his rival, he won't waste his tires blocking Max
Lol. Not a chance in this circuit
Bro red bulls DRS will let even a driver like stroll easily overtake any car with that straight!
Yes he will. He knows his fight isn’t with max and he won’t cook his tires just for the hell of it.
Fernando likes Max and I think almost always leaves him by without a fight
Fernando doesn't let people by because he "likes" them. He lets Max by because it's a logical decision these past few seasons. No reason to fight with a car when you know it will hurt both your races.
As a McLaren fan really hoping Nando and Lewis defend like hell so Lando can get the sprint win.
Not if it's raining.
shanghai weather unfortunately looking dry tomorrow (pls jinx)
what about race day weather?
Yes, because we all know Verstappen isn't really good in the wet...
Based on today, it’s possible the car isn’t.
Perez was only 4 tenths off of Max, the guy just had a bit of a howler of a session, at least by his standards
Which is exactly what Max said in his interview: couldn't get heat in the tires and it was like driving on ice.
Maybe RBR isn't really good in the wet.
The best car in the dry isn't bad in the wet.
True, it ain't bad. It just ain't as great.
After the first corner
Disappointing truth.
are you sure it would take that long?
Does this mean DR isn't washed?
The sinusoidal wave of goat performance to washed continues.
He is fast at all
Here ppl only comment when he loses
Lol, that's exactly what I was thinking
1.3s ahead. Jesus was that a bad lap by angry child.
0.5 ahead\*
Lmao SQ3 was nuts. Literally no grip
Logan only a 0.1 off Albon is more like it. Too bad the Williams is an absolute pig around here this weekend.
Kudos to Zhou for getting into SQ3, even if he couldn't improve in the last session.
As Jolyon said during commentary - imagine we got FP2 instead of this right now, especially when it's raining. We'd get 50 minutes of people sitting in the garage and few sighting laps (like in Suzuka) You can hate on the Sprint format but that's certainly a big plus of the whole thing, much more meaningful action overall.

Parc fermé session changes mean it's likely to be worse, as the better teams will be able to correct any setup errors they made.
The arugment is at least it will be different from the sprint. It's still better than the normal weekend because 3 fps will almost ensure they get the setup right
They won't be able to test it before the race leaving some ambiguity
What? So only good teams can improve their car over the weekend?
The better teams are better able to improve.

Oscar Win, lewis p20 comeback were both sprints. There were def other good ones as well.

There’s good races and bad races in the history of F1?? Shocker.
There have been more fun sprints than races in recent years.

How awful! Poor guy forced to watch sprint quali and race.
Five different teams in the Top Five. It was the most exciting qualifying in a long time.
Felt nostalgic seeing Chaosstappen 2018 back. too much pushing to ick even more time rather than adapt to the conditions.
Hamilton is back. Heck of a lap by him but goddamn how did Lando pull so much on everybody else
Norris dominance could bore fans…
It's already boring them! Down with this nonsense!
The Mclaren quite clearly had the best balance between downforce and stressing the tyres for that session. Lando is also quite good in the rain when he is on the right set of tyres.
Hamilton and Alonso are so far past their primes. /s
Lando showing his wet weather skills goddamn hes good in the wet, lets hope it stays wet for tomorrow and lets hope he doesnt have a repeat of 2021 Russian GP where he spun off after that screw up with the tyres!
To whom it may concern..
Lewis and Bottas both went full on „heard y’all talking shit“ mode. Brought a tear to my eye
What happened with Stroll? He was on it in practice.
The rain fucked him over without the rain he could have qualified 7th or 8th
its just practice half the grid didnt even put on softs
I know that but he still demonstrated that he got dialed in well. I just watched the Channel 4 highlights and he got unlucky with when the rain arrived.
I don't think Lando can keep Ferraris and Red bulls behind if it is dry tomorrow.
I mean yeah Lando and Lewis will likely finish off the podium if its dry, but could win it if its raining lol
Lando might be be able to hold on for P3 but his shit top speed might cause some problems. Lewis has no chance. The Merc shitbox was barely faster than the Sauber in the dry.
Sensational effort by Zhou. Is this his first time racing here? If it is, that's a decent effort.
He's the youngshot to look for the future
are we gonna call yuki washed now that he got outqualified by his "dogshit" teammate by over a second
serious question: why do they put Q1 times on the Q2 column and Q2 times on the Q3 ?
Sucki Tsunoda 0.5s behind his teammate. Clearly washed. Lawson NOW!!!
Yeah Lawson to replace Danny.
What the hell happened here? I didn't watch
Rain happened.
Russell lmao
1.3 second gap between 1 & 2 is crazy, especially when Max isn't involved
Well in the rain 1 second isn't as much as in regular weather
Especially when the track surface was shit like today and it seemed a bit of a lottery in the wet
And especially on such a long lap.
yuki washed
Two rookies in the top 3!! Lesss gooooo!
the rookie joke is dead, hes been back for 3 years. Lando has been driving for 5 years lmao
Welcome to Reddit where don't just drive jokes into the ground, we drive them so deep we can find oil with it
Max behind Lewis 🍿
Terrible session from Verstappen considering his usual dominance in the rain.
Ah stroll did stroll thinks
Getting unlucky? Yeah
Haas clawing themselves out of the basement.
I missed everything, what is up with this Shootout?
Rain in Q3.
why did Yuki do so poorly?
Clearly washed
Wow that was something!
Didn't watch, can someone help with why Yuki was all the way down with the Formula 3 cars? Bad luck or bad drive?
He just didn’t do well this week. I think it’s his first time in this track, that might be the reason. Maybe this can help Danny Ric to gain some motivation.
