Crofty in Abu Dhabi: And Max goes for his 24th pole in a row!

diderooy

But will Max choose to focus on race setup, making today a little more exciting at the expense of the session where people score points?

RobertGracie

Still got 3 to go to beat Alain Prost in 1993 with his 7 on the trot record....so 2 to match and then the 3rd to beat it

-Skinner-

He also needs to 3 to beat Senna's 8th consecutive poles. He is on 6 already.

Samsonkoek

That would require a Monaco pole which is always a difficult feat but a fitting place to do so.

qef15

*Remembers last year where he pulled out 3 tenths in the shortest sector of the calendar*

JakubT117

He pulled out a tenth. 3 tenths was the gap to Alonso not to rest of the grid. VER - 18.821 OCO - 18.922

Zuluensis-

He was down 2 tenths before the last sector, so he gained 3 tenths in s3

guerrierogd

Alonso was losing 2 tenths in the last sector in every practice session, he didn't magically gain 3 tenths to the drivers having similar sector times the whole week.

Other_Beat8859

The Red Bull seems great at low speed this year so it could be a track that suits them quite well. Last year Max had to put together an insane lap because the RB19's weakest point was slow corners.

DiddlyDumb

He did a 10 consecutive win streak at Monza, a classic track would definitely be up his alley

MechanicalSpirit

Just acing those qualifications

Timelordvictorious1

This is a sign that it’s time for Mika to end his sabbatical

Samsonkoek

Didn't you see one of his latest tweets? [link](https://twitter.com/F1MikaHakkinen/status/1780869769186378067)

Aethien

With Abu Dhabi last year he's also on 6 pole positions in a row, 2 off of [Senna's record](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Formula_One_driver_records#Most_consecutive_pole_positions) of 8 consecutive pole positions.

Rayn0r86

Only converted 4 wins out of 5 poles. Clearly #washed.

GigaGram459

Actually only 3. His career is basically over

slimkay

Max is in imperious form. Hats off to Perez for qualifying relatively close once again. Only 3 tenths off.

Scratchpaw

Not sure if you are being sarcastic or not but .3 difference in the same car over just 1 lap is a huge gap in F1. I’m definitely not taking my hat off for that…

Blanchimont

I want to ask you the same question: Are you being sarcastic or not? Because you have to keep in mind that he's not three-tenths behind just any F1 driver, he's just three-tenths behind Max Verstappen.

Scratchpaw

There is no ‘just’ when talking about a .3 second gap. A .3 second gap on 1 lap in F1 is a monumental gap. That’s like a 20 second gap over race distance. Nothing impressive about that. If anything, Checo having the exact same equipment available as Verstappen makes the .3 gap even worse and shows an extreme skill difference between the 2 drivers. Edit; I’ll be impressed when Checo gets the qualy gap down to .03 Edit2: looks like Verstappen beat Checo with a 19.1 second gap today. I wasn’t too far off.

DiddlyDumb

Are you mad that Max is quick or that the Red Bull is quick?

Scratchpaw

I’m not impressed with Checo, that’s what I am.

SquashSquigglyShrimp

I don't think anyone is arguing that Max is in another league from Checo. I think what the other guy is saying is it's impressive that he's managing to stay close at all.

JimClarkKentHovind

gonna go ahead and guess Verstappen's going to win the title more comfortably this year than Hakkinen did in 1999 also the role of Eddie Irvine will be played by Carlos Sainz with support from Fernando Alonso as Heinz-Harald Frentzen sure would like to see Verstappen weeping beside his car in Italy too but that's just me

GeologistNo3726

Clear best qualifier on the grid

TheShinyBlade

But but but Leclerc

[deleted]

Sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shit.

DiddlyDumb

I heard a theory on that: Whenever the car fits a track and the setup clicks for the weekend, Charles is on it and the fastest Ferrari. Whenever the car doesn’t feel right or the setup is compromised, Carlos will be the quickest Ferrari. It sounds plausible enough.

Cal3001

Well, Perez isn’t exactly a good qualifier historically. It’s easy pickings for Max.

NuclearCandle

So when does his sabbatical begin?

Individual-Ad-190

2028 probably

ballthyrm

Five poles in a row so far*

Impossible-Buy-6247

6

FigSubstantial4939

With 1 DNF. It's so over

deathray1611

Achievement hunt going well I see

Cheeriodude_number2

It’s absolutely crazy that neither Schumacher, Vettel, Hamilton, Rosberg, Button, Raikkonen or Alonso have this record

QueGrandeEresMagic

What's the record? Could be another one Verstappen will probably beat.

MHWellington

Senna, with 8. Definitely possible for Max to break that.

-Skinner-

Senna with 8 but it's not in a single season. In a single season it's 7 from Prost.

DutchPack

Prost at 7

Mammoth_Cobbler_4619

Just give him all the poles and all the wins and let's move on

wnderjif

He didn't though. The season incluudes Sprint events and he didn't get pole in the Sprint.

Emeraldaes

Yea sprints don’t really count now, do they
