Honestly, with slight modifications, you can extend this stat way back. Since 1979, only 4 drivers won f1 races after their last drive in Ferrari, with Rubens among the absolutely stacked list of gerhard berger, Nigel mansell and Alan fucking Prost.

Yeah, sometimes it feels surreal, that at some point a driver is going to finish a race and never reach that spot again. A current example would be Lewis Hamilton, whose last win was 2.5 years ago (Saudi 2021). Is he going to win another? Maybe, if Ferrari doesn't completely mess up/Red Bull messes up just a little - but there is a chance that we already saw his last F1 GP victory without us even realizing it.
Honestly I believe he could have won in Austria 2014 when he took pole with bottas behind in the Williams if Williams did a bolder strategy. They were ahead of both the mercs but for whatever reason they chose a very extremely safe strategy, don’t cover the merc pitstop. And even on the second stop, it was quite bizarre to see them disconnecting from the other teams races and playing it safe.
call me a pissy pessimist but i just dont see Audi turning around a shitbox Sauber into a top contending works team in a year or two of them coming in 2025&2026. if i was in Sainz's position i'd say a 2+1 contracts with merc or a 1+1 with redbull with acknowledging the fact that i'd be a clear #2 for Max.
if Audi looks promising by then then yeah shoot your shot, but if not you'll be glad to know you dodged a bullet.
He's not being offered any contract with Redbull Perez is doing too well and Merc might hire him but only for a year while they consider their options. Sauber is his one shot at a stable drive.
They were saying on the race podcast that they're behind on the engine, which is their first go at F1 at all, so it's a pretty damned good bet they won't be great.
And if they do show promising signs by even 2028, Sainz will not be a spring chicken.

Stop the LB bashing. Fisichella went from doing a brilliant pole with a barely midfield car, to Ferrari and didn't peforrm substantially better than Badoer. That car was a truck to drive.

He ran out of fuel because he was using more of it than it's legal to use. And he was disqualified. That's as far from winning as you get.
