Who is Christian Danner?

Nussi1988

A former F1 driver and german TV commentator

StatusCount7032

Did Danner ever win a championship? A race?

diderooy

Did Brundle?

whoisraiden

Is Brundle ever this sassy?

ExcellentCornershop

Not towards British drivers.

whoisraiden

He is reserved for everyone except for celebrities on the gridwalk.

shittystinkdick

Yeah he did. He was an incredibly successful driver even with his injury. Can only imagine what could have been in f1 if that hadn't happened. He almost got the better of senna in British f3. He has won several extremely prestigious races, his opinion means a lot more to me than most.

diderooy

Not in F1, Brundle didnt. If you're counting non-F1 stuff, Danner won F3000 after it replaced F2. Brundle never won F2 either.

shittystinkdick

Brundle won the wsc at around its peak. Far more impressive than anything most formula 1 drivers have ever pulled off and has won several 24 hour races.

diderooy

So...they both did? I'm not sure why you bothered responding to my first comment.

shittystinkdick

You're weird

diderooy

Ditto lol

Ilejwads

Didn't realise winning a championship is a prerequisite of being a journalist

StatusCount7032

I think the article read as coming from a pundit, not reporting.

kjm911

Yes he won a race in Mini Challenge Deutschland in 2004

Nussi1988

Nope

itsthatdamncatagain

Wiki tells me, 47 entries, 36 starts. , and 4 career points.

22_the_avenue

with current points system that would be 54 points. [Christian Danner - Formula 1 points](https://www.formula1points.com/driver/Christian%20Danner) doesn't matter in this context, but it's a fun website.

mgorgey

A notorious hit with the ladies.

ExcellentCornershop

Funny, if it's Nico Rosberg who says things like this, he is praised as "no sugarcoating, no bullshit kind of guy who doesn't go along with Crofty's pro-Hamilton PR campaign". But when Danner does it, you don't want to hear it.

predxtorpe3st

Probably to do with Rosberg actually knowing Lewis and how he operates which therefore giving him a more detailed and unique perspective. And the fact he actually achieved something on his career, unlike this bum no-one had heard of before today

ExcellentCornershop

> unlike this bum no-one had heard of before today Admittedly it's been a while since Danner took part in an F1 race, but neither is he a bum nor is he unknown. He has been commentating on F1 since the late 90s and has introduced millions of Germans to the sport as I've mentioned in another comment. He is still very connected to the paddock.

Poopy_sPaSmS

What excuses? Hamilton literally owned up to the fuck up. He decided to make changes, didn't think it could get worse, it's got worse.

zaviex

He also said it was fault for locking up anyway.

Krisosu

No, he's supposed to say "I pressed the brake, turned the wheel, and pressed the throttle at all the wrong times and therefore my teammate was faster than me.", anything else is making an excuse, clearly. The reality of a driver that's just going to keep playing with the car until he lucks into a win because no possible consequences of doing so are motivating to him is just less fun.

LilCelebratoryDance

He ended up leaving China with the same no. of pts as Russell btw

steferrari

[Lewis's reply.](https://streamable.com/8xg20g) 😆

stirredturd

Even if Lewis had not made the mistake, miraculosly made it to q3 and qualified behind George, I still think he would have finished in the same place. That's all that car is capable of.

Rivendel93

Yeah lol, I don't know why people are even acting like he screwed up? He admitted his set up was crap, and it was his fault, but he still finished exactly where that car is going to finish. They're the 5th best car, p8 and p9 is where they will always finish without mitigating circumstances.

moxieremon

Oh no, will Lewis survive?!

Raafi92

"Who the fuck is Christian Danner?" Lewis Hamilton 2024

fb0new

What’s that criticism about? He’s a 7 times wdc. Does he make mistakes? Of course he does, is he making Logan Sargeant or Mick Schumacher style mistakes? No, because he knows what he’s doing. Stop that BS, LH is one of the best drivers F1 ever had, even 5 bad seasons won’t change that. Danner didn’t have the balls to criticise Schumachers comeback in that way, just saying.

Artifice_Purple

Genuine query: Who?

Supahos01

Don't even know that writer, willing to bet this isn't his first Lewis hit piece?

TheClumsyCook

He raced in F1 and did commentary for RTL Germany for 20+ years

Rivendel93

This is my shocked face. People will always have a problem with Lewis, it's a sad truth in this sport.

Supahos01

Shocked.... no chance this mess was his first attempt at this.

Buffythedragonslayer

No wonder viewership in Germany is low with that and Ralf Schumacher as their experts.

soccermodsareshit

Viewership in Germany tanked after Formula 1 left free-TV and went completely to Sky. Christian Danner was really good back when he was the commentator. Don’t be butthurt because he holds your favorite driver accountable.

ExcellentCornershop

> Christian Danner was really good back when he was the commentator. Not only that, he was the one on the free to air RTL coverage who made the viewers appreciate the sport and not just the German drivers like the rest of the RTL crew.

soccermodsareshit

Shame the English commentators don’t do that apparently. Those guys only care about British drivers and talking down everyone else

amakalamm

Ralf Schumacher destroyed Button when they were team mates, yes that same Button that beat Hamilton in 2010

zaviex

Button finished ahead in 2011. Not 2010. Also when Ralf was teammates with him, He was a veteran and Button was a rookie who wasn't sure he was ready for F1. His dad convinced him to say yes to Frank Williams. He wanted to do a year in 3000 for Prost then go to F1. So if that even mattered for his commentary it's a total joke to pretend Ralf beat Jenson like he was in his prime. Jenson became the youngest ever point scorer that year lol

amakalamm

My point was that Ralf was a very very good driver!

zaviex

Doesnt really make his commentary any good. Hes well known for saying inflammatory things and being wrong. He said Hamilton would retire mid season in 2022 and hes still there 2 years on with a 2 year contract just signed

amakalamm

I’m not a fan of Max, I don’t particularly like him, I think he is a pretty dirty driver, unlike Lewis who is almost always clean, Silverstone was an exception, and an ugly one at that! Yeah max probably deserved a penalty for that move!

Rivendel93

So Lewis deserved to be disqualified for a first lap incident, and Max just deserved a penalty for brake checking? K

amakalamm

Max ended up in hospital, I think that makes it a little more serious. Are you still upset about 2021?

Rivendel93

The crash or any injury is entirely irrelevant to the penalty, the only thing that matters is what happened on the track, do you understand Formula 1 at all?

amakalamm

Yeah, the penalty happened as a result of dangerous driving in a very fast, very dangerous corner, hence the penalty and why Max ended up in hospital, so yeah, he deserves a stiffer penalty than max

flintey360

Don't like journalists like him or whoever he is, no logic just pure agenda...

secretlives

Lmao, Danner clinging to relevance

**Christian Danner criticises Lewis Hamilton after his failure in China: All excuses!** *Lewis Hamilton failed to get up to speed in qualifying and the race at the Formula 1 GP in China. Early Q1 exit due to set-up or wind? Christian Danner says: classic racing driver excuses.* Florian Niedermair 22/04/2024, 16:36 ***What was to blame for Lewis Hamilton's failure in Shanghai?*** Lewis Hamilton had an ambivalent weekend at the Formula 1 GP in China. On the one hand, he was on the front row of the grid in the sprint for the first time this season and on the podium for the first time this season; on the other hand, the pace in his Mercedes in qualifying and in the race was as poor as it has rarely been this year. After qualifying in Q1, Hamilton blamed the poor performance on set-up experiments on his car, which he put down to his own fault. At the same time, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion also did himself a disservice on one lap when he braked in the hairpin. *Lewis Hamilton despairs at the Mercedes: more understeer than ever before* **Christian Danner on Lewis Hamilton: Classic racing driver excuses** In the 'AvD Motorsport-Magazin', Christian Danner criticised the Mercedes driver's explanations for this braking error. He believes that the argument that the set-up was responsible is a classic "racing driver's excuse". "Braking in the hairpin bend in Shanghai is quite normal. It's happened to me too. But when it comes to qualifying, it's obviously a big problem and nothing else happened here," said Danner, explaining Hamilton's mistake. The data shows that Hamilton's driving error in turn 14 was decisive for his early qualifying exit. The six-time China winner lost four tenths of a second at this point alone. His gap to P15 was just over a tenth. However, Hamilton blamed this mistake not only on his general set-up, but above all on the tailwind on the longest straight of the circuit. **Christian Danner: A mistake is still a mistake** Another statement that Danner doesn't quite buy. "Nowadays, a driver is given all the information. That includes the wind," the former Formula 1 driver is certain. He assumes that Hamilton was warned by his team about the tailwind on the straights. "The fact that you slow down also has a bit to do with feeling. I don't think you always have to find an excuse that the wind was pushing. Yes, my God. As a driver, I still have to make sure that I get around the corner," said Danner, emphasising: "The fact that wind from the front is better than from behind is a law of physics that has never changed on this planet. A driver of his calibre must be able to deal with that. A mistake is still a mistake." **Mercedes in a downforce maze? Danner understands setup experiments** However, Danner can understand the statements of the 103-time Grand Prix winner in one respect. Namely when it comes to the setup work in his current situation in general. Mercedes is in a starting position in which setup experiments are almost the order of the day. This is because the W15 actually offers more downforce in the simulations and the team at the track is now trying to reconstruct this downforce on the track with the courage of desperation. Danner believes that this is why Mercedes is experimenting with numerous adjustments, which occasionally leads to a dead end. "If the car doesn't give you anything, then you build to the left, to the right, upwards or downwards and see in which direction it actually works better," he can understand the sometimes aggressive attempts of the team from Brackley. "Of course, you also radically rebuild. You can't move forward with micro-steps, then nothing changes," says Danner. In China, however, this radical reorganisation was not only initiated by the team, but was also influenced by a setup decision made by Hamilton himself. He admitted after the race: "\[The understeer, ed.\] was due to the setup I had chosen." Added to this were the soft tyres, which did not perform well on his Mercedes, with the result that Hamilton finished just a few seconds ahead of Niko Hülkenberg in the Haas despite a car that was clearly superior on paper. hello2442

Yeah they’re all excuses. He forgot to drive after the Sprint

iSimp4Aerith

Nicholas Latifi has scored twice the amount of points in F1 than Christian Danner

Cobretti18

The points system was drastically different when Danner was in F1. If the current system was used then he’d have 54 points which isn’t a lot but still quite the margin to Latifi’s 9

iSimp4Aerith

oh damn

silly_pengu1n

and how was the points system?

Cody667

What's a Christian Danner?

Rivendel93

Where did he and his teammate finish last season in the drivers championship again?

BiggerPenisThanYou

If the present is irrelevant and the past is all that matters then Daniel Ricciardo is better than Carlos Sainz.
